Why Feelings of Discomfort Can Signal Opportunities for Growth

Countless people do not recognize that the uncomfortable feeling that arises in their gut, when they are thinking of stepping into the unknown, is not necessarily a cause for alarm. Indeed, discomfort can signal valuable opportunities for growth.

Everybody has a comfort zone, out of which he or she prefers not to tread. Staying within the realms of experience that are well known to you is safe. However, unless you are willing to stretch further, you will not be able to take advantage of lucky breaks.

Realizing that favorable circumstances are in the offing can be difficult if you suspect that the butterflies in your stomach are a sign that you should be wary. No doubt, you have been led to believe that you should listen to what your gut feelings tell you. However, it is important to decipher what you are hearing accurately. You could miss a worthwhile experience if you interpret your intuition incorrectly. Your body reacts to your thoughts, which is why you may get a headache when you are stressed. Your gut is particularly susceptible to reflecting your hopes and fears, and your stomach may churn in response to feelings of apprehension. Nonetheless, uneasiness is not automatically a reason to sit tight or run in the opposite direction.

You can see that discomfort is capable of denoting positive opportunities if you think back to when you started dating. Perhaps you asked someone out for the first time, or plucked up courage to invite somebody to dance. There again, perhaps unease occurred before you had a job interview. Your feelings did not take place because you were about to make a mistake; they happened because you were excited and nervous. If you had not gone ahead with your plans, you may not have bagged a date, dance, or job.

If you are working with the Law of Attraction, discomfort may occur when you are about to climb over a metaphorical hurdle or extend yourself in some manner. Understanding that such feelings are natural and positive can help you develop and branch out. There again, if you let your unease put you off taking a chance, you will never know what you have let slip from your grasp. In addition, your self-growth will be prolonged.

When your gut feelings are an indication that you should refrain from taking action, such as stepping in front of a moving car, your apprehension will be strong and arrive suddenly. Noticing the difference between urgent demands from your inner being to discontinue and excitement is useful.

If you feel uneasy when you are about to encounter a novel experience, do not let your interpretation of what your discomfort means hold you back. Better still, take a few moments to breathe deeply, and allow yourself to welcome and appreciate the challenge ahead of you. Knowing that uncomfortable feelings are a signal that you are extending yourself can make doing so pleasurable rather than nerve-racking.
