Spend Time On The Right Things

High Performance -

This phrase has been out there for years. It is known because that is what people truly want. One of the goals of mankind is to get to the point of always spending our precious time in the highest state that we can achieve. This state allows us to focus on exactly what we are trying to accomplish. It becomes clear to keep our state of minds open to striving toward that which we want. To get to this point there are a couple of steps we can take.

First and foremost, do you know the destination? Let me write out a personal example here. My wife is the most important person in my life. She does everything to help support her family. She is strong in so many ways. I want the best life I can provide for her. First I will give her love. Every solitary day I will tell her that I love her. Every solitary day I give her compliments. When we are close I hold her in a hug or give her a kiss. I ask about her wants and needs. I let her vent to her hearts content on issues she finds important. Then we find times to talk. Communication is so important in relationships.

Now that we have a relationship example of the destination that I want to occur I have steps to work with. This can work for relationships, other personal matters or in business. When a business knows where it wants to go it can take steps and follow other successful businesses. There are more books and information on successful business practices. Steps could be taken on a daily basis to make a book, product, service or any other kind of business to become successful.

What Truly Matters?

Knowing the destination is great and well thought out. The question of why is necessary here. If you do not have a big enough why nothing in the world will make a person or business move forward. Money is alright but I want to give my wife and children the best possible example to live by is much more straight forward. It gives you something to love.

When we are young we go through many different experiences. These experiences are where we form our thoughts. These thoughts become choices that we make in the future. To be more self-directed we have to begin placing the information that we want to rely upon to make decisions. Want better relationships? Dig down and figure out where you got your thoughts about relationships from and then start reading and studying successful relationships. Want to run your business better? Same thing.

Getting down to what really matters in your life will help you to grow as a human. Soon you will be doing every day until you get to the life that you have dreamt about. You will be successful because you no longer believe that it is luck that you have been running into. I promised you two new ways to think about the future.

First, always keep your destination in mind. Every morning and night look at your day and ask if you are truly going to get to your destination doing what you did that day. Plan the next day. Now, every day you will work twice as hard but it won't really feel like it because you have chosen to want something great in life. The second change in thinking comes from knowing that it is not luck guiding you. It is not a manifest destiny. It is not knowing the right people. It is you putting the information and work into your life to have exactly what you want. You are taking the right steps and you will get there

Steal This High-Performance Secret: Boy Scouts Reveal How To Boost Performance & Score An Advantage

Two Women in Front of Dry-erase Board

The other day I was talking with a client about the pinewood derby.

This is where kiddos (typically in Boy Scouts) build their own wooden cars... design them... paint them... and race them against other kids. Growing up, I loved competing it in. All my friends crafted and schemed their car a little bit differently. And each went to different lengths to win.

(Sometimes the parents got a tad more involved than the kids even!)

But there's a lesson embedded in this competition that can be carried over into other areas as well. You see, the pinewood derby is a game of slight edges.

Here's what I mean:

To compete the cars must be a certain weight and cannot exceed a certain size. Besides that, everyone is starting with the same raw materials. But there are little tweaks you can make to your car that adds up to a monstrous advantage.

These include: only have three wheels touching the track (decreases friction)... making the back of the car heavier than the front (boosts potential energy)... and rolling the wheels in graphite (decrease friction)...
Phew... I think that's enough physics for one day.

Here's how this applies:

High-performance and being at your best each day is a game of slight edges too.

Everyone is faced with the same decisions each day. But there are tons of little tweaks you can make that add up and allow you to be at your absolute best.

These include: how you start your day... how you plan your day... how you manage your to-do list... how long you work for... how often you take breaks... how you confront others... whether you multi-task or solo-task... how much time you devote to problems... how much time you devote to solutions... how much time you devote to fun... how much time you devote to relaxation... how much time you devote to meaningful projects... how much time you devote to distractions... how much time you devote to connecting to others... what you do before bed... how much you sleep...

Those are just the tip of the iceberg. But there's a lot to work to with in that just simple list.

Each one of those "tweaks" can make to bring out more confidence... more focus... more productivity... and more fulfillment. But only you know which "tweak" is most appropriate for you.

Pick the one that will make the biggest difference.

And take the first step forward.

Even if it's a tiny one.
