Message From the Universe: Give It a Try

"People, when given a chance, smile, skip, and dance.

They create, play, and laugh.

They care, share, and love.

And the ones who don't, haven't yet realized that chances are something you give yourself.

Double dare you,
The Universe"

You do not need permission to smile, skip or dance. You just go and do it. The same goes with playing, or laughing and loving others. You don't even think about it, it just happens. So if that is the case, why not ALWAYS do it. It doesn't cost you anything right? You will feel better about yourself, more relaxed, energized and ready to tackle the world. You are in control of your own feelings, so might as well control your actions as well. I see many live in the shadow of others, afraid of shocking them with their actions. They are like walking on eggshell, start living to make others happy at the expense of making themselves miserable. You need to work on forgetting what others are asking or telling you to do and focus on what you can do for yourself, and stop looking for others approval. It is your life to live, not theirs.

Because of social media and an increase lack of privacy (done voluntarily of course), people post their whole lives on Fb, or Ig, or LinkedIn or whatever else platforms offered on the net. One of the few posts I have seen that shocked the hell out of me is when someone shares that they found a new 9 to 5 stable job with a stable salary and will get 1000 likes. But when I see someone sharing his ambition and determination to starting and launching a new great idea and working to built a great business, they received a couple of likes. I find this to be pathetic. I guess it is because many feel threatened with the person who took action and isn't walking the same path as the 97% of the population and following their dreams while others are stuck in their miserable 9 to 5 job. The one who posted landing the new stable job with stable salary is someone walking the same path as the many out there who aren't taking risk in their lives, which in retrospect, getting lots of likes. It is human nature to like what others do because they do the same as you do. However, when someone is thinking outside the box, this is when all hell break loose and the Universe is losing its stable ground. Ouch, the world is ending!

Do It, Get Into Action

Nike's brilliant slogan, "Just Do It" has been running through my head for hours.

I've got a deadline for a blog post I committed to writing for a colleague and I just can't get my thoughts together.

Oh, sure I've sat at my desk and stared at the blank screen for a while but nothing happened.

I mean I waited... but nothing. Nada. Zippo. Zilch.

So, I stood up and headed out to the deck for a little sunshine and inspiration.

On the way, I walked through the kitchen and realized that I didn't unload the dishwasher from last night.

So I did that.

And, while I was in the kitchen I decided to wipe up the counters as I didn't do that after breakfast.

And, then I went back to my office.

I wrote the three lines, re-read them, and realized that something was off so I deleted them all.

Then, I hopped over to Facebook, hoping that I would find a little inspiration from one of my friends.

Instead, I clicked on 5 puppy videos that, while entertaining, took 20 minutes of my time and now I am much closer to my deadline.

I went back into the kitchen to grab a glass of water and before heading back to my office, I check out what was in the snack cabinet. And, then the refrigerator. And, then the snack cabinet again.

After I finally made it back to my office, I had the glass of water, two peppermint patties (just little ones) and what I thought was a great idea.

But, when I sat down in front of my blank screen, the idea was gone.

Does this scenario or an iteration of it sound familiar to you?

The good news is I pulled myself together and got it done before the deadline. Woo-hoo!

Here are the 5 simple steps I took to get into action so I could get the blog post written. They're easy-peasy and you can do them, too! (And, it's as easy as rinse and repeat every time!)

1. Make the commitment. When you have a firm commitment to a person, place or organization vs. focusing solely on the task, it's easier to get started.

2. Get into your body. When you're stuck, it's often because you're in your head and not your body. If you go for a walk or just move, it will empty your mind and the ideas will start flowing.

3. Ensure that you are working at the best hours of the day for you. You have a time of day where you are at peak performance. Do your most important tasks then.

4. Remove distractions. Close down FB, phone, etc. and focus on your one action item. No multi-tasking!

5. Just do it. Need I say more?!?

And, remember to celebrate!

7 Ways to Stay Motivated and Accomplish Anything

Motivation comes--and it goes. Here's how to hold onto it, even when things get tough.

Does the start of a New Year renew your energy and motivation to achieve change? For most it does, but let's face it, no matter how driven you are, there will be times when your energy and commitment will ebb. Yes, it happens--even to the most motivated among us.
You may have a great plan for your business, but now it's time to create a plan to keep yourself in high gear at work. When you need a boost try these simple tips to tap into your motivation. You know you can achieve anything when you put your mind to it, so put your mind to making 2015 a stellar year!

1. Determine your motivating force.

What's your why, your passion, the vision beyond the vision, as I call it? You must have a reason to succeed; one that touches the deepest levels of your being. Before you begin every project explore the big picture. Why is it so important to you? What will you lose if you don't keep going? If you commit to something, just because you should, you will look back upon failure.

2. Tap into the energy of others.

If you feel tired, uninspired, even like giving up, I challenge you to examine the mindset of those around you. Do conversations with your closest companions renew your energy or drain it? Do you have people in your life who can engage in stimulating conversation about business or the other things that you're passionate about?
As human beings we give and receive energy and inspiration. Make sure you are receiving as much, or more, than you are handing out.

3. Get your thoughts organized.

When I'm working on a big project, nothing zaps my energy more than an over-stimulated, cluttered mind. This is an easy state for entrepreneurs to fall into because we are so full of ideas and strategies: your mind can go in a million directions and all of them seem viable at the time. Collect these thoughts by talking through your desired outcome, what you've done so far, and your options for moving forward. Your coach is a great resource for this, and I'd be happy to help. Sometimes all it takes is a willing ear, so a patient friend will do. It's surprising how things can fall back into place simply by revisiting your goals with a second party.

4. Move the process from your head to an organized list.

You know how it goes. You're determined to make some headway today and you've got two hours to make a dent in your project. But you sit down, uncertain about where to begin. So what do you do instead? Get lost in social media or another distraction, right?
Detailed lists outlining your next steps can eliminate this temptation. Break down your goals into bite-size, manageable chunks and always refer to your list before you get to work. Better yet, schedule time into your calendar for the very specific tasks that will take you to the next level in your project. The more specific you get, the less your mind will be inclined to go another direction.

5. Renew your creativity with a mind map.

If you keep your ideas and options in your head, it's difficult to tap into more expansive thinking. Your brain can efficiently manage only so much information before that information becomes nothing more than clutter. When you find yourself feeling overwhelmed or confused about how to get from point A to point B, create a mind map. When you do this, it not only organizes the mess in your brain; it also brings out your creativity and resourcefulness.

6. Have a plan B.

Find inspiration in these words from Thomas Edison: "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."
Be prepared to change course in light of the unexpected. This does not mean that you are giving up on a great idea. It means that you're destined to find one that's even better.

7. Don't worry, be happy.

The Dalai Lama was once asked what surprised him most about humanity. "Man," he answered. Why? "Because," said His Holiness, "he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never to die, and then dies having never really lived."
"Let go of anxious thinking. There's a difference between seeing the big picture and being well prepared and worrying about every possible problem before it exists. Take calculated risks and focus your energy on preparedness, not anxiety-provoking worry."
