Which Foods Keep Your Brain Working Well?

Thanks to all the pressures of modern living, we all discover that from time to time, we are often too tired or stressed to think. Nevertheless, this may not be the case since there are varieties of readily available spices, drinks, and foods that we can consume, not only to boost or energize our memory and help us focus, but also to delay or reverse the onset of debilitating diseases which affect the brain such as the Alzheimer's Disease.

Sometimes we all lose interest or focus in whatever we are doing due to stress or fatigue. By good luck, there are some supplements or foods that can improve focus, memory, and concentration, in accordance with the recent research by the World Health Organization (WHO). If you combine and mix these 'brain foods' with daily exercise, good night's sleep and good hydration, you could significantly boost your brain power. So if you are searching for ways to boost your memory, enhance concentration and stay focused, you can check out these simple and readily available foods that will make you smarter like Einstein in no time.

APPLES

Apples are the king of fruits and they are also known for the brain food. They are one of the foods that scientists say will contribute to overall good health, help you to think clearly and of course, boost your memory. We all know the old saying, 'an apple a day keeps the doctor away' and 'you are what you eat' which certainly stills holds true even today. So what makes the apple the top of this list? Well, they contain a certain group of compounds and nutrients such as pectin which are fiber, quercetin which protects and boosts memory, riboflavin which produces energy and lastly polyphenol which are strong antioxidants. These compounds help to protect the brain from the kind of damage that cause neuro degenerative diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. Not only do they have brain power but they also help to lower blood cholesterol levels, build strong teeth and prevent the oxidation of bad LDL cholesterol (a chemical process that turns it into an artery clogging plague). They also decrease the risk of liver, lung, colon, breast and other cancer as well as asthma and heart disease. What a wonderful fruit! Also, make sure that you eat the peel as the apple skin has 2 to 6 times the antioxidants as the flesh.Cherries, oysters, berries and even curry also have a high rank among foods that can help boost your brain, promote heart health and give you energy.

CINNAMON

Did you know that cinnamon was worth more than gold to the ancient Egyptians? This is mostly because cinnamon was long believed to have healthy and medicinal properties which made it extremely valuable. There are thousands of man made supplements, food products and chemically manufactured tablets that claim to increase or boost brain power but none of these offers the delicious, tasty flavor cinnamon does. Even today, cinnamon is still one of the most consumed and used products in the world. It is a sweet smelling spice that has been found to boost and energize brain activity and help to relieve memory loss and nervous tension. Cinnamon is also a safe and tasty method to slow down the aging process. Chewing cinnamon flavored gum or just smelling it can help to improve and enhance the cognitive process. It also contains a chemical compound known as sodium benzoate which is used to treat neural disorders. Cinnamon has 3 active compounds which make it so nutritious such as the Cinnamaldehyde, cinnamyl alcohol and cinnamyl acetate. It also contains a flavonol range and other antioxidants along with a remarkable amount of fiber, calcium, and manganese. These compounds have proved to boost memory, curb food cravings, reverse or delay cognitive impairment and benefit Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and diabetic patients. Cinnamon is indeed nature's wonder spice.

COFFEE

Coffee is the planets most single valuable traded food commodity with more than 2 billion cups enjoyed worldwide daily. It's effectiveness as a high-performance brain fuel continues to make it liquid gold and it is not surprising that it's main active ingredient is caffeine. Coffee helps you to wake up in the mornings and keeps you active throughout the day. So how does this magic ingredient help boost your brain? Well, as the caffeine hits the brain it suppresses a neurotransmitter known as adenosine, which influences alertness, concentration, and attention. It works up on your brain during the day just like a mercury rising in the thermometer. Caffeine also stimulates brain chemicals such as dopamine and glutamate which helps and gives you an energy surge, improve your mental performance and slows down the age related mental decline. It also increases serotonin (a major mood influencer) and improves learning up to 10 percent. Caffeine has even proved to relieve headaches and migraines, benefit Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and type 2 diabetic patients. There is also a downside to coffee since caffeine can affect sleep patterns and evidence also suggests that there's an association between daily intake of caffeine, day time sleepiness and sleep quality.Coffee is truly a perfect method to energize and boost your brain.

CHOCOLATE

Today chocolate is considered an anti flammatory, anti aging 'superfood' for both the brain and the body. But how does this lenient treat live up to its plug? Eating amounts of dark chocolate is guaranteed to have many health benefits as they assist the brain to release chemicals known as endorphins (which help the brain to function much better). The studies examining the health benefit of chocolate continue to show new and appealing benefits of chocolate, especially in the realms of mood, cognitive function, and heart or blood vessel health. Also eating chocolate can improve anxiety and depression symptoms and help improve feelings of contentedness. If you consume the right kinds of chocolate every day, they can help to keep your mind sharp and alert, keep your cardiovascular pumping and keep your mood happy and calm. For instance, cocoa chocolate and dark chocolate are best known to boost attention, working memory speed, brain processing speed and speech fluency (even to the elderly). These chocolates are a rich source of flavanols, which are compounds that boost the brain activity and enhance mood effects as well. You can eat as little as a third chocolate per day to increase the blood flow to your brain and also protect yourself against age related issues such as memory loss.

EGGS

According to the latest news in nutrition, eggs are now back from exile just on time to help the aging America from memory loss. Eggs, and especially the yolk, have received a lot of attention with controversy over their cholesterol content. So how do eggs actually help to boost the memory? Well, as it turns out, eggs are packed with choline, that your brain converts to acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter that assists the brain cells to keep the memories intact and communicates with each other). With less than 80 calories each, eggs are comparatively loaded with protein and they have a low calorie. Eggs are also packed with cholesterol which made them end up on the 'bad for you' list in the first place over the past few decades. One York has 200 mg of cholesterol, and for many years, it was believed that dietary cholesterol was the major contributor and cause of heart disease. But it appears that it was mistaken much like the tenacious myth that skims milk is much healthier than whole milk. Eggs contain many nutritive elements that your brain and other body cells need every day. They are rich in choline, vitamin B12, and folate which is good for boosting g your memory.

WATER

Your body was designed to work in a specific way just like any other machine that has specific instructions about what it requires and how to keep it operating optimally. Over 70 per cent of your body is made of water and every function in the body depend on the water including the activities of the nervous system and the brain. Your body is also composed of a delicate balance of minerals, electrons, and organic compounds most of which are supplied through the water that you drink. Therefore, it is proven that if you're not well hydrated, it can affect your focus, cause headaches, lead to memory loss, cause depression, sleeping problems, anger issues and brain fatigue. Drinking water provides your brain with enough electrical energy for all the brain functions including memory processes. You will also be able to think fast, be more focused, experience great creativity and clarity and even reduce the risk of neurotransmitter diseases. It is quite easy to integrate a few supplements or foods that will enhance your memory and focus in your daily diet. You can take an egg in the morning, a cup of green tea after lunch, some curry in your spaghetti sauce at supper time and a lot of water to keep the brain working well.

OILY FISH

No doubt you have possibly heard that eating fish can make you smarter, which to some extent is completely true. Eating oily fish that are high in the essential omega 3 or fatty acids such as salmon, trout, sardines tilapia and other fish can help to boost the brain. Fatty acids that are found in fish and seafood are crucial components of our brain cells and they improve learning strength and memory function by up to 15 per cent. Studies show that eating food rich in omega 3 can boost the blood flow of the brain, improve the performance of mental tasks and reduce the risks of suffering from neurotransmitter diseases such as Alzheimer's and dementia. Also by eating oily fish, you can increase your brain size in later life and also help to prevent age related mental decline. Fish have added the benefit of containing the nutrient choline (a chemical which is essential for memory). Since the solid (non-water) part of your brain is composed of fat, you must provide it with 'good fats' or the essential fatty acids through your diet because the body doesn't produce them. Fish is really an amazing brain food.

SPINACH

A single bunch of spinach can perform wonders for your brain. Spinach was long promoted as the food which gave Popeye his convex muscles. Spinach is loaded with antioxidants which scientists say could block the effects of the free radicals, toxins produced by the body which damage cells and cause cancer, strokes and heart disease. It is also a great source of folate and a kind of vitamin K and vitamin E which help to boost the brain memory. It contains flavonoids that act as potent antioxidants which slow the effects of aging on the brain. It also boosts learning capacity and motor skills. A few leaves of cooked spinach loads a third of foliate and 5 times the amount of Vitamin K that you require in a day. Maybe this is why a neurology study in 2006 reveals that eating three plates of leafy-green, cruciferous and yellow vegetables a day can reverse or delay cognitive decline by 40 percent. Spinach has not only proved to help the brain but it also gives a knock-out punch to cancer and it even protects and improves eyesight. Spinach is packed with high-quality nutrition enough to make you feel like the bulging Popeye.

GRAPE JUICE

Grape juice contains protein, fiber, copper, iron, potassium, folate vitamins A, K, C and B2. They are also rich in polyphenols and natural sugar, which must be consumed in moderation. Therefore, including a glass of tasty grape juice in your daily diet might just boost your memory and your brain performance. It also helps those who live a stressful lifestyle like working mothers. Studies show that by adding a glass of grape juice (especially concord grape juice) to the daily diet might boost memory function and performance of highly stressed people and even in elder people with mild declines of memory. Concord grape juice is a rich and good source of polyphenols and potent antioxidants which mop up or clear harmful reactive species of oxygen which have been recognized as the key to the ageing process. So by consuming or adding concord grape juice to your daily diet for about three months you may boost your spatial memory and drive performance. Grape juice not only helps to boosts your memory but it also protects you from cancer, lowers bad cholesterol, improves cardiovascular health, fights fatigue and it improves eyesight. It is also evident that grape juice also has a long term effect which can allow you to consistently maintain a better performance even when you have stopped drinking it.

IRON

Iron deficiency is the most common condition that is often linked to numerous adverse effects like diminished intelligence, short attention span and difficulty in concentrating. Iron is a required nutrient for it the production of hemoglobin (the component in red blood cells that carries oxygen and delivers it to the tissues). If iron becomes deficient in your body, hemoglobin levels can fail and then cause anemia. Iron also participates in the making of the brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) like dopamine and serine which have broadly advantageous effects on the brain function and mood as well. An easy blood test is conducted to determine whether you have iron deficiency. Study shows that adult women require 18 mg of iron every day, post menopausal women and men require 8 mg every day. Adding more iron rich foods will not automatically boost your brain power, but being even mildly deficient in iron could negatively impact memory, learning and attention span. Chicken livers are on offer the top sources of food that is rich in iron, with 12.8mg per 3 - ounce serving. Even though they are high in cholesterol, they are comparatively low in saturated fat. Other sources of food that are rich in iron are oysters (with nearly 10 mg per dozen) and the lean beef (with 6 mg per ounces). Also beans, vitamin C and iron fortified cereals help the body to absorb iron.

Blackberries

If you want to slow down your ageing process and also preserve your brain's activity and vitality, the secret to doing so is by taking blackberries. These juicy and delicious berries have a phenomenal anti oxidant properties which boost your brain power and nourish your body. They contain high amounts of ellagic acid and garlic acid, a well known chemo preventative (with anti bacterial and anti viral properties). They are also rich in fiber and vitamin C which have been shown to help decrease the risks of certain cancers. They have low carbohydrates, calories (70 calories per cup)and they have no fat. This means that you can take a lot of this stupendous fruit without having the guilt or sabotaging you weight loss target or objectives. These taste and delicious fruit contains several micro nutrients which work wonders on your body. Blackberries are indeed an amazing superfruit.

Lateral Thinking For Creativity and Innovation Using A Technique Called REST

woman touching her forehead

Lateral Thinking does for your mind, what electricity does for a light bulb. It is the juice that powers creativity.

Lateral Thinking is a term created by Edward de Bono to describe a process of looking at problems from different angles or perspectives. By doing so you may find an innovative solution that would otherwise remain hidden from view.

The theory surmises the more you look at a problem from different directions, the better your chance of finding a way to solve it.

There are only 3 ways innovation can occur:

1) Something never before seen is created, for example the transistor.

2) Something that exist is repurposed for a different use such as using microwaves to cook food or

3) Something existing is improved by incorporating another existing product or service in whole or in part like the first steam powered automobile.

History has shown of the three, the combining of two existing products or services in whole or in part is the most common method used to inspire new ideas that advance our human experience!

The problem with all of these methods is often the inspiration comes by "chance" after long brain bleeding concentration.

Typically it goes something like this: you spend enormous brain power pouring over a problem you are trying to solve. You go over the problem countless times, like a dog chasing its tail and you get nothing. You're just about ready to throw in the towel when, as if by some weird magic you have an epiphany! The solution to your problem appears with absolute clarity.

In most cases, these revelations are stimulated by some random appearance of something totally unrelated.

What's really maddening is discovering the solution to a perplexing problem, was so obvious in hind sight that you kick yourself for being so blind to see it.

I call it my "Homer Simpson" moment where I slap my forehead and say "Doh!"

Why is that? Why do we miss the obvious so often?

Our minds are well trained in logical thinking. We have been educated and socialized in a world where logical thinking is required to function.

Our natural creative thinking ability has diminished to a pitiful impotent level either from lack of development and/or lack of use. Only a lucky few managed to keep their creative minds flourishing through to adulthood.

For most people there is a disconnect between the analytical left side of the brain and the creative right side of the brain.

Our brain contains ninety billion neurons with a potential of one hundred trillion unique connections. New connections are made with each new thought generated by our experience and imagination.

Our mind can not distinguish between the two. We have lots of experiences to form new connections from but as adults we have very little connections created by using our natural creativity, our imagination!

Thinking laterally stimulates our imagination creating new connections linking your logical left side of your brain to your creative right side.

A powerful mind is created when there are plenty of connections between the two sides.

Although opposite to each other Lateral Thinking and Logical Thinking work hand in hand. Lateral Thinking inspires while Logical Thinking implements.

Once your mind embraces the process of lateral thinking, it quickly learns its OK to use the accumulated knowledge you have and combine it in new, often crazy ways to inspire ingenious solutions for any problem you face.

There is a technique called REST (Random External Stimulus Technique) that inspires creative thinking.

Rather than waiting for "chance" to inspire your creativity you can train your mind to look for inspiration.

The biggest challenge you will have to learning the Random External Stimulus Technique is your own logical mind. Your journey to become more focused, smarter, even a genius requires that you practice being absolutely silly!

Yep, get insanely silly!

For starters, expect to be ridiculous, your logical mind has been in control for so long you'll resist this and may even feel embarrassed. So practice intensely alone. Have fun, laugh at yourself, but seriously push your imagination!

You will be amazed at how exhilarating the experience is!

Just like exercising requires you push your body well beyond what you do the rest of the day, exercising your creative mind requires the same.

Lateral Thinking develops your creativity. For fun solve this problem using REST.

Practice by randomly picking something around you right now. Do this before reading further...

... OK you picked something?

Now using this object as inspiration try to solve this problem:

How many numbers are in ZERO? I'll give you a hint, there are more than 64,000 numbers in ZERO! Tell me how this can be?

The best way to get started is to write down all the characteristics and origins of the random source of inspiration you picked. Write down everything you know about it while thinking of the problem. Use your uncensored wild imagination, without judgment on the outcome. Makeup stories that may answer this question and write them down regardless how stupid or idiotic they may sound or appear.

Remember this is just practice.

If you really want to have fun with this do some research on the random item to learn more about it.

Once you have exhausted all your crazy ideas and wrote them down, look at them with a logical mind for something that may show some merit or spark a legitimate idea.

The important "must" in this exercise, is the source of your inspiration, it must be totally random!

If you try to pick something that you think (logically) is better to use as stimulus you lose the opportunity to train your mind.

If you come up with the solution to this problem please let me know, I would love to hear from you. You can reach me at my website listed below.

How Can I Boost My Brain Power?

plasma ball digital wallpaper

The human brain is the boss of the body. Like a mitochondria to the cell, it is the power house of the body because it runs the whole show and controls effective performance of body functions, giving out commands and processing information even while we are asleep. The stamina of the brain therefore says a lot about our state of health.

At over 50, the body is fast aging. This brings changes to the brain size, vasculature, and cognition. The brain shrinks with increasing age and there are changes at all levels from molecules to morphology. Therefore, it is safe to conclude that in older people, the brain power is relatively diminishing. Incidence of stroke, white matter lesions, and dementia also rise with age, as does level of memory impairment.

What Can Be Done? There are protective factors that aid the aging brain as well as boost brain power. A healthy life both physically and mentally may be the best defense against the changes of an aging brain and body as a whole. We will consider the following five factors:

Consider Using Brain Supplements

Experiments and researches have proved that the best new methods to increase brain power involve using very old healing techniques the ones our own bodies already employ. The human body and brain has a well-established mechanism and body structure for regulating and boosting cognitive power. By choosing the right supplements, it's possible to increase mental focus, brain power, boost learning ability, make memories easier to build and retain, and guarantee the long-term health of brain tissue. Check with your doctor before considering to take a supplement.

Healthy Nutrition

It is always said that a healthy body is the distinguished result of a healthy nutrition. Omega-3 fatty acids improve blood circulation, and boost the function of neurotransmitters, which help the brain process and think. Foods high in magnesium are important (such as chickpeas or garbanzo beans) because they help with message transmission in the brain.

Choline, which is present in vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower, has the potential to help with the growth of new brain cells, as well as boosting intelligence longer in older adults. Complex carbohydrates give your brain and body energy over a longer period of time. Try as much as possible to maintain a healthy diet, this is beneficial for middle-aged and older adults.

Get Enough Sleep

Most, if not all of the brain functions such as creativity, thinking, cognitive functioning, problem solving, memory, are linked to getting enough sleep. Sleep is especially necessary for memory functions, so make sure you're getting to the deeper stages of sleep to allow for memory processing. For adults it is best to get at least 8 hours of sleep.

Cut Down On Stress

Long years of accumulated stress can do things like destroy brain cells and damage the hippocampus, which is the part of the brain that helps retrieve old memories and format new ones. Therefore, we must learn to deal effectively with stress. It is incredibly important to learn how to eliminate stress. Find out what kind of stress relief works well with your body and adapt it. Meditation and exercising go a long way in managing stress and in the long run boosting brain power. In addition, breathing deeply helps with reducing or possibly alleviating your anxiety.

Keep Your Body Hydrated

The human brain functions poorly when the body system is dehydrated. You must therefore note that getting enough liquid in your system is super important because the brain is about 80% water. Be sure to keep drinking water all day. You can also drink fruit or vegetable juice because they contain polyphenols. Polyphenols are the antioxidants in fruits and vegetables that help protect brain cells from damage and keep your brain at a high-functioning level.

The human brain has an astonishing ability to adapt and change, even into old age. You can't stop the brain from aging but these factors are helpful to keep it sharp, strong and glowing.

The Power of Music to Raise Your Vibration

Keeping your body's energy system flowing smoothly is key to a happy, healthy life and there is nothing that moves your energy faster than music.

Listening to my favorite songs never fails to make me feel good. And when I'm feeling good, my vibration increases and I emit positive energy.

Music can have a powerful influence on your heart rate, breathing, emotions and even brain power. It is listed as the fourth stimuli which the mind responds most freely to in Napolean Hill's book, Think and Grow Rich.

Because of music's profound effect on your body and psyche, it is an excellent way to raise your vibration.

Listening to music that resonates with you in a positive way can shift your mood, helping you to release negative thought patterns and raise your vibration.

Whether you are listening to music, playing an instrument or singing, it all works to uplift you to a positive, high vibrational place if you are enjoying it.

Don't tolerate music that doesn't make you feel good because it will lower your vibration. Positive lyrics are definitely a plus but not always necessary. When I hear B.B. King sing The Thrill is Gone, I am more focused on the sounds of the guitar and the magic of his voice than I am on the lyrics. It never fails to make me smile, and moves my spirit in the most wonderful way.

If the music resonates with you and it makes you feel good, you will be in a higher vibrational place.

Research has shown that music can have the following physical effects:

  • Brain Waves: Brainwave activity changes - a strong beat stimulates brainwaves to resonate in sync with the rhythm, which brings sharper concentration and more alert thinking, and a slower tempo promotes a calm, meditative state.
  • Breathing and Heart Rate: Both can be altered by music - which can mean slower breathing, and slower heart rate, and an activation of the relaxation response. This is why music can be an excellent prevention against the damaging effects of chronic stress, greatly promoting relaxation and contribute to good health.
  • State of Mind: Music can help keep depression and anxiety at bay by bringing a more positive state of mind. It can also promote higher levels of optimism and creativity, which brings many other benefits such as boosting immunity, easing muscle tension, and lowering blood pressure.

Music can be used in the following ways:

  • Relaxation: It promotes relaxation of tense muscles, helping to dissolve stress, and enabling you to release some of the tension from a stressful day.
  • Meditation: It can help you get into a zone - a meditative state - when practicing yoga, self hypnosis or guided imagery.
  • Positive Focus: Music, especially upbeat tunes, can help you feel more optimistic and positive, taking your mind off what stresses you.
  • Affirmations: Affirming lyrics can help you create more positive self talk, by surrounding you with positive energy and helping you to look on the bright side.

Below are a few of my favorite "feel good" songs. If you are not familiar with any of them, I highly recommend you check them out on YouTube and enjoy the good vibes they evoke! Happy listening!

Three Little Birds - Bob Marley
Don't Worry, Be Happy - Bobby McFerrin
Sound of Sunshine - Michael Franti
Say hey - Michael Franti
True to Myself - Ziggy Marley
Free - Donavon Frankenreiter
Life is Beautiful - Keb' Mo'
If You Want to Sing Out - Cat Stevens
Bright Side of the Road - Van Morrison
Blue Sky - The Allman Brothers Band
Sunshine on My Shoulders - John Denver
I'm Alright - Little Anthony and the Imperials
Don't Look Back - Mick Jagger & Peter Tosh
Shout - Isley Brothers
Living in the Moment - Jason Mraz

7 Tips To Develop A Sharp Memory

Image result for brain memory

If you want to succeed in life, you must have a sharp memory but this depends mainly on your brain's health. Earlier, there was a notion that those who were old might not be able to boost their brain power. But researchers have disproved this theory. It has been proved that human brain, regardless of the age of the person, has a tremendous capacity to adapt, change and improve. Researchers have named this phenomenon as "neuroplasticity." But you have to make use of the right kind of stimulation for creating fresh neural pathways in your brain and for making modifications to the existing connections. The right types of stimulation will help your brain adapt as well as react in the ways you wish.

By using the concept of "neuroplasticity" and developing a good memory, you can not only improve your cognitive capabilities but can learn new things as well. Let us look at some of the tips that may help you.

1. Brain workouts

Biologists have found that before a person reaches adulthood, her brain will have developed countless neural pathways that may help her process information, recall details, solve familiar issues, and execute tasks that she already knows. In fact, she need not put forth much effort for carrying out all these. But if the person is complacent and limits her activities within these neural paths, it means she is not giving her brain the necessary stimulation for its growth or development. So, she must opt for brain workouts for shaking things up.

Memory is very much similar to muscular strength. You should therefore exercise it. The workouts you try should be challenging enough to help you develop fresh neural pathways. Learning a new language, solving mathematical problems, writing poems, indulging in creative activities, etc. are ways to exercise your brain.

Key elements of good brain-boosting activities

The most important element is that the activity should push you out of your comfort zone. This means you must be ready to explore a territory you have not treaded earlier. Learning a new thing or developing a new skill belongs to this category.

Secondly, the activity should be challenging and should demand your complete attention and mental effort. Learning to play a difficult music score belongs to this category.

The third element is that the skill you choose to develop should be such that you should be able to work to build on it. This means when you begin, you will begin at a very easy level and you will be growing your skill levels as you move ahead and improve. This also means stretching your capabilities to reach higher levels.

Lastly, the activity should be rewarding. Your learning process may stop if you do not remain motivated. Rewards take care of this part.

2. Physical exercises can greatly help brain development

You may wonder how physical exercises can help you develop a sharp memory. Biologists confirm that when you indulge in strenuous physical activities, your brain gets a good supply of blood and oxygen and this does a world of good for its development. It is a known fact that ailments like diabetes or cardiovascular diseases can negatively impact memory power. Physical exercises will help you negate the ill-effects of these ailments. It has also been proved that exercises stimulate creation of fresh neuronal connections.

3. Importance of adequate sleep

Though there are experts who say that it is enough if you sleep for about 6 hours a day, the fact is you must sleep at least for 7.5 hours to 9 hours for functioning with optimum efficiency. If you have a good sleep, you can certainly develop sharp memory. Your creativity and critical thinking and problem-solving abilities will also improve drastically.

4. Socialize

If you spend a good amount of time with your friends and socialize with them, you are more likely to develop a sharp memory. Researchers have proved that socializing and meaningful friendships bestow cognitive benefits also.

5. Learn to manage stress

Stress can negatively impact the brain power. If you are not able to manage your stress, you will very soon face memory issues. Stress is the destroyer of brain cells. It also damages hippocampus, the brain's region where creation of new memory cells takes place. Some of the ideas for managing stress are:

  • Have realistic expectations.
  • Take frequent breaks and relax.
  • Don't bottle up your feelings.
  • Have a good work-life balance.
  • Concentrate on a single task instead of multi-tasking.
  • Learn and practice meditation, yoga and breathing exercises.

6. Laugh as often as possible

One of the ways to develop a sharp memory is to laugh at every opportunity. Especially, those who are capable of laughing at themselves are known to have a very good memory. Since they do not hesitate to criticize themselves, they do not take criticisms seriously. Researchers have established that those who take criticisms seriously and keep brooding about them may lose their memory power soon.

7. Opt for brain-boosting diets

Nutrients like Omega 3 Fatty acids, fiber, proteins especially lean proteins, etc. can boost brain health. You should therefore eat more of fruits, vegetables, and wholesome grains for improving your memory. Avoid eating junk and oily foods, red meat, butter, whole milk, cheese, ice cream and sugary items because they may trigger dementia and affect your memory as well as concentration.

Discover How Innovation and Brain Power Is the Key to Success

Light Bulb Floating Above Person's Hand

The last article that I have written about innovation is the key to success; there was a paragraph in which I have mentioned how powerful the brain is when it comes to writing your ideas, to make your innovation a reality, in a notebook or journal.

Today, I am going to focus on the power of the brain and how you can use it to make your dreams or innovations come true.

In Biology, Psychology, or Anatomy classes, we learn that there are 2 main functions of the brain; they are called the Conscious and Subconscious. These 2 parts of our brain play an important role in everyday life. Some of you may think, "What has this got to do with innovation?" I will explain it to you.

The Subconscious Mind

For a building to exist, it is drawn up on a mental blueprint. The builder(s) have to visualize in their minds what the building is going to look like, how to tall it will be, and the materials that will be used before a physical blueprint is made.

For my readers, those who want to achieve success through innovation, I want you to draw a mental blueprint in your mind of who you want to be in the near future and figure out what it will take to make your dreams a reality. In this part of the exercise, do not write anything down as I will continue to discuss the importance of the subconscious mind, so that you can get a clear understanding of what I am talking about.

This part of your brain is where your dreams are active (awake and asleep) and where memories are stored.

1. Dreams. The innovations that we have today started out with dreams. The great Mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan, wrote his dreams down; many of which solved the riddles of Math and Physics. Your dreams play a vital role in starting your own innovation, so pay close attention to what dreams you have and see which ones are vital to your personal success.

2. Memories. There are many articles that I have written where I have used past memories and experiences and shared them with the world of how to become a better affiliate marketer. You wouldn't believe how many people have benefited from this as they have shared my articles on their websites or blogs.

Memorize important formulas or word definitions. I am sure that Mr. Ramanujan have memorized many Math formulas throughout his lifetime that led him to discover new formulas through his dreams. Memorizing important items will help you succeed on tests or discovering new ways to run a better business.

The Conscious Mind

If the Subconscious is the root of the tree, then the conscious mind is the main tree; it is the growth or the action part of the mind. It is where you make your dreams a reality!

1. Dreams. If you have a dream that is important to your innovation, write it down immediately in a notebook or journal; this means jumping out of bed in the middle of the night. If you are writing a book, dreams are a great to get started; you will visit worlds beyond your imagination and engage in an adventure that you will never forget.

2. Memorization. It is important to write in a journal everyday so that you can recall important events that have happened in your past. Who knows, you can create important tips in your next article or innovation that will help someone who is looking for answers to their question.

In conclusion, never neglect the power of your mind; it is the key to achieving personal and financial success. In your mind, innovation is born; start working on yours today!

Are You in a Bad Spot Right Now? How to Stay Focused on Solutions to Get You Out of It

Are you in a sticky situation'? It's all good, there are ways to help you deal with it. Life will throw you curve balls and difficult situations to deal with and it's all about how you view the situation and respond to it.

Before we can look at the problem and focus our brain power on solutions, we need to turn around any negative perceptions people have of themselves and the situation. If we don't do that, then precious mental resources will continue to be used up with inner criticism and unhelpful comparisons with their friends and family. This is a waste of time and stops people from coming up with good solutions.

It's very easy when we're going through less-than-ideal situations to mentally compare ourselves to friends and people we know who seem to have everything together and give ourselves a hard time because things are not so good for us right now. Is this helpful? No it's not. The helpful thing to do for you right now is to realise that we're all different, and each and every one of us is here to create our own lives and achieve different goals. (Really if we were all meant to be the same then we would have been all created the same.) Thank goodness, there is so much variety in this world in people, making life so much more interesting - each one of us has different backgrounds, personality styles, beliefs, skills, desires and knowledge. And believe it or not, everyone goes through problems and challenges.

Just imagine if we were all the same, we'd all be applying for the same job, have exactly the same interests and we would want to be with the same partner - resulting in extreme competition, chaos and boredom! And guess what? Everyone
of us has challenging and negative times - it's how we respond to it that makes the difference.

Often, in our quest for resolving the problem we are facing, we turn to family and friends to give us ideas and suggestions. And that's very important. It helps when we talk about problems and share the discomfort and pain we're going through. But it's also important to remember that all we're doing is getting advice, it doesn't mean it's right for us or that we have to use it. At the end of the day, we gather the information from different people to help us come up with a solution and then we decide, as the creator of our lives, what we take on board. What has suited your friends in similar situations may not suit you. Because they are different from you. And they have their own personal perspective on the situation which may be totally irrelevant. All you need to do is gather the relevant bits of advice that suits your situation, put it together with information you've gathered from other sources and use that to help you come up with a suitable and workable solution for you.

You are the one who has lived your life all these years, you are the one who has the most interest in doing well and you are the authority on yourself. So back yourself in doing what suits you best.

Learn How to Increase The Brain Power

Self-development plays an important role in strengthening your self-esteem and will-power, but the root of all happiness and financial security begins at one place; your brain. I have written many articles on self-improvement and personal development, so, today I am going to focus on how to increase the brain power so that you can become an unstoppable force in your chosen talent or profession.

Without brain power, which includes creativity and imagination; there would be no discoveries in any field of academics, there would be no buildings or any types of transportations, and we would always be in a depressed state because there is no motivation.

As an article writer, I am constantly using my mental capabilities to come up with original articles, if I don't use this brain power on a regular basis, I would lose the ability to come up with a new idea for an article or I would have a hard time getting back into a writing mode after a long break. Using your brain power in self-development will help you find success in your life because of that dream and vision that is in your mind. Recently, I saw an episode of American Ninja Warrior where a participant wore a prosthetic leg, despite being physically handicap; he pushed through the obstacles course with only one leg (before he started the course, he removed the prosthetic leg). Now, imagine being in that situation, cancer had just taken your leg, would you tackle that course or make some excuse and walk away? This young man should true brain and will-power as he did not let his disabilities get the best of him. Even though he did not finish the course, he should true grit and courage by going through that obstacle course. From what I saw on his facial expression was look of satisfaction and happiness; through his actions, he inspired many people on the sidelines as they cheered for him.

When tough times appear or you are having trouble overcoming a personal issue; do not give up or do not back down. Discipline your mind by establishing a positive attitude and you will overcome any obstacle.

Einstein used his brain power for studying, observing, and learning. The result was that he made a difference in academics.

Edison used his brain power to overcome failure. The end result was that he made the first light bulb.

Here are some ways in which you can help boost your brain to the next level:

1. Stay away from negative comments on social media that is not constructive criticism. These types of negative comments will drain your brain power in a way that you won't be motivated to do anything.

2. Treat your brain good through exercise and healthy eating. This type of fuel will keep brain running at a high level so that you can do anything.

3. Engage in self-development programs that will help keep you motivated for the rest of your life.

From this article, I showed you how to increase the brain power so that you can become an unstoppable force. There is no need to go and buy expensive medication or supplements to improve the brain function, all you need is the brain power to succeed.

How To Stay Sharp Mentally All The Time

Whether you are in your 20s or 60s, we all have "idiot moments" where we do silly things that we don't normally do.

These mental issues are not limited to old or unhealthy people, a lot of us also have these incidences occasionally.

Here are 5 things you can do daily to keep your mind sharp so that you are always on path to where you want to go.

Tip #1 Stay Hydrated

Your brain cannot function optimally when you are dehydrated. It switches back to survival mode so you won't have enough brain power for mental tasks.

Water is an excellent liquid for oxygenation and detoxification. Personally, I drink at least 2.5-3 liters of water daily.

Not only does this make my skin bright, smooth and healthy, but it also increases my energy level to be alert and focused during work.

Of course if you find plain water too boring, try scented flavors like peppermint tea, earl grey tea, lemon balm tea, or green tea. They all help to stimulate your brain, revitalize your body, and prevent age-related memory loss.

Tip #2 Healthy Eating

Good nutritious food is the foundation of a healthy body, mind, emotion and spirit.

Specifically, supplementing yourself with omega-3 fatty acids like fish oil or krill oil are excellent to keep your brain performing at its highest level.

Of course you don't want to take too much supplements to replace your normal healthy diets. So always consult your physician or nutritionist when in doubt.

Tip #3 Exercise Regularly

You don't need to do lots of crazy workout movements to stay sharp. Just go for a 20 mins walk around the block every day is already a good start for beginners.

Try not to bring your "dumb phones" while exercising, you want a complete disconnect to truly wind down.

Instead, use all of your 5 senses to observe the people, the environment and the little interesting details around you.

This will be a nice combo workout for your mind to exercise your observational skills while you're building strength and stamina in your body.

Tip #4 Maintain Good Posture Wherever You Are

Poor posture leads to poor blood circulation, which leads to poor blood flow to your brain and that's why you can't think clearly.

So sit up straight, stand up tall as if there's a string holding your head and spine, shoulders down, chin up and walk confidently like Harvey Specter. (Haven't you watched the Suits yet?)

Tip #5 Adequate Sleep

If you are sleep deprived, there's no way you can concentrate.

Excessive lack of sleep will build toxins in your brain that's going to prevent you from processing information efficiently.

While the optimal number of sleep varies from people, 6-8 hours will be a good average that you need to feel refreshed and energized the next day.

Common sense often isn't common practice. While these tips sound simple, do not overlook the power of making small things right that's going to yield big results!

Recalling Memory: Secret to Exercising the Brain Power

To begin with, I would like to talk about the brain power in terms of ability to analyze a sizable information and come up with a workable solution to it. The Intelligence Quotient is measured by the amount of information the brain can process and purge out answer for with great speed and efficiency. It is a common belief that how we live our life has tremendous impact in our brain. Our intake, in food we eat, the quality of liquid we consume, the air we breathe in and how we generally conduct our body - activities we use to control free radicals in our system and body chemistry, like exercise - have solid effects in our central nervous system. So, this is to say that all these are necessary requirements for what this article is going to talk about: how to recall memories that are trapped.

Trapped Memories

Lost memories, as they're normally called, are those memories that are trapped from our past experiences as a result of redundancy in the brain which has prevented us from keeping them as active as we used to have them. Sometimes, we might know deep in our mind that we had such experiences but we can't seem to picture the images properly or mention any name or thing in the experiences. So how do we recall such memories? This might seem to be an uphill task but this article will give simple tricks to overcome that.

Recalling Memories

First and foremost, I can't over-emphasize the importance of one's health status in this situation, since the ability to use the brain is affected in any health issue, so to carry out this exercise, someone's health needs to be in tiptop condition, that is why I mentioned earlier the essence of eating habit to this exercise, to gain mental fitness. Need I not also mention that someone must be emotionally stable before completing this task, because it is something that probes very deep into the mind, so emotional balance is needed. Also important for someone in this memory exercise is to be in a very quite place (no room for distraction) because even a little noise like mosquito's can be a great distraction while doing the processing and you will have to start all over again from beginning, so before embarking on this "memory probing", one should ensure there is death silence at the time and place, preferably, in the night.

After observing the aforementioned guidelines, the next step is lying on your back in your bed, couch or anywhere that is comfy for you, but make sure your head is properly positioned as you are facing up. Lying on your back with your face up I said, because, I have discovered that being in this position helps us more to use our brain with optimal efficiency than any other positions. Although, this doesn't mean you can't move your body from one position to another in the course of the exercise if you are feeling fatigue, but you will always notice that you are able to do most processing in the brain while in this position. The next is trying to remember the Ending of the memory you want to recall, for instance, if it is a name of a person, try to remember the Last Name first, e.g. in Albert Einstein: try to remember Einstein first.

In trying to remember Einstein, you start visualizing those things that you knew were associated the first time you got to know the name, for instance, a friend calling the name then, the picture of event that occurred when you knew the name, the subject of discussion when the name was mentioned and so on. One most important tool that you can use to help connect the lost memory to your brain is Alphabet.

Alphabets A-Z come in handy, especially, when you can not muster enough mental pick-up to visualize any associated event to the memory you have lost. This is because, a name, event or anything you might be trying to remember is written in alphabet. So to try and recall a memory or name with the use of alphabets, you separate the vowels from consonants first (5 vowels and 21 consonants). In your brain, you pick one vowel (A) and associate it with all the consonants (like BA, CA, DA and AB, AC, AD and ABA, ACA, ADA etc, till last consonant Z), and you continue like that with the remaining 4 vowels and associate them with all of the consonants. This might seem strenuous, but I tell you, you won't have to complete every vowel and consonant like this before the memory you are trying to recall is triggered in your brain, and in case you have a little clue as to what the lost memory/name sounds like, you can just do the combinations of similar sounds to the name.

Please note...

While doing the combination of vowels and consonants in your brain, try and be racking your memory for the lost one: be listening to the sounds these combinations are giving in your brain and try to see if they have any similarity with the lost memory. By being very focused this way, you will definitely hear a sound that has a striking resemblance to what you are searching for. You certainly need to be focused in your mind while doing the processing.

I mention Ending as the first thing you should try to remember because it is the aspect that is much easier for the brain to recapture than any other part of any lost memory, and if you can recall the Ending it means you are less than half-way to go to recall other aspects. Our Ending in this example is "Einstein" but it could be any other thing order than a name: Ending of a story, Ending of an event and so on, anything that comes last in memory you are trying to recall is the Ending.

Though this whole process of memory exercise can be a tricky one for a starter, but the joy you derive from doing it if you are successful at the end is worth it. As a starter, it can take some time to complete the task, especially, the combination aspect, but with time and consistency, you will definitely master the processing.

Benefits of Recalling Memory

Recalling memory is very beneficial to our brain health and general wellbeing, because it enables better computations in the brain as the whole process of remembering is a lot of exercise for brain:

It helps us to expand our mental capacity, with new memories found
It boosts the computation power in the brain
It enables us to fight diseases like Stroke, associating with memory loss
It clears our mind as a satisfaction given by any completed processing is gratifying
It enhances mental fitness and so on.
