Sometimes You've Just Got to Say 'No'

Many people find that it's their automatic default to say 'yes' whenever something is asked of them. They may have learned to respond without even thinking about it, maybe regard others' needs as more important than their own or don't want to cause disappointment, offence or appear 'difficult' by declining.

Saying 'yes' can be a positive trait that opens new doors and experiences. It can be a significant investment in our relationships, but used too often or without due consideration can also lead to overwhelm, frustration and resentment.

Let's look at why sometimes you've just got to say 'no';

- At times it can become apparent that we need to re-define the boundaries of our relationships and remind/reinstate the parameters of what's appropriate and acceptable. Over time we may have ended up doing things out of habit or by default. That's not always the best or most respectful way to live. From now let's decide to be clearer about our roles and check whether the things we accept or agree to are still okay for us. Saying 'no' can be an important part of reclaiming our self-respect.

- Personal time and space is integral to good self-care. Don't underestimate the role of some me-time. Just because you're free and don't have an important task or commitment at the moment means you should feel guilty or allow others to encroach on that time. If you had an appointment with an important client it's hard to imagine that you'd let something distract you from honouring it. So, put yourself in your diary and say 'no' to cancelling, unless a real emergency crops up. Commit to regular time for yourself.

- Sometimes saying 'no' can be a way of letting others know how much you do, what else you've got on, that you're too busy to take on any more. They perhaps don't appreciate the extent of your responsibilities and commitments, how time-consuming they are and may well back off once you've explained firmly and politely. If you always say 'yes' they may think you don't mind, are happy to be the 'go to guy'. And it may be that it's only upon reflection, that you start to appreciate how much you actually do, automatically, without a second thought.

- Don't forget too that boredom is often underrated. We may feel obligated to fill every moment with meaningful activity, with chores, catching up with people, self-improvement. There's often a list of things we could/should/ought to be doing, but doing nothing is fine occasionally. It lets our minds and bodies calm down and be still. It teaches us about the importance of silence and inactivity, about switching off our 'I'm ready, bring it on' adrenalin. Children often learn a lot when they're bored. All too often they have technology, films and adults desperate to provide constant stimulus and amusement, but children, when left to their own devices, are often ingenious at using their imaginations and amusing themselves. That skill needs to be encouraged.

- Find acceptable ways of saying 'no', that you're comfortable with. Anger and outrage can flare if we feel we're under pressure to do more, always say 'yes', but that extreme reaction is often unnecessary. Saying, 'it's not a good time for me', or 'I'm busy, already doing x and y' may be enough to placate the situation, inform others of things you're already doing and encourage them to respect you and your time more.

- Then there are those of us who say 'yes' so frequently to invitations that we forget which concerts, events, parties we've actually been to! Saying 'yes' too often can turn special moments into a half-remembered blur. A bit like testing too many perfumes, we become numb and unable to fully appreciate each experience.

Saying 'yes' is important. It gets us out of our comfort zone, keeps us alert and receptive to new experiences and opportunities. And often when we say 'yes' and commit to seemingly impossible opportunities or agree to things we don't want to do, we can be pleasantly surprised at how well they turn out. But equally, we need to be ready to say 'no' if we feel overloaded, trapped, taken for granted or not properly equipped to do a good job. Used well, both yes and no can serve positive roles in our lives.

Principles of Performance

Woman in Yellow Long sleeve Standing Under the Sunlight

I have written several articles that cover the principles of self-development. I am a true believer that self-development is the key to success. Much of success is about taking action. In many cases, principles of performance have a lot to do with what you do and what you are able to encourage others to do. There are many principles that I use on a constant basis and will continue to use them until they are no longer effective. The number one principle that should be addressed if you are wanting to be successful would be to focus, focus, focus. Most people lose their focus and that is why they are not able to complete anything they pursue.

I am a true believer that for anyone to be successful they need to have the right attitude. A negative attitude has never gotten anyone anywhere but rejected and left out. Expect positive things to happen in your life when your attitude is positive. What you put out is what you get back in most cases. It's like looking in a mirror. Your attitude determines your altitude.

Now, the attitude I am writing about is not falsely manufactured to impress or manipulate others. The attitude that I am addressing would be a true positive attitude that resides deep down inside your soul. The positive attitude I am talking about would be the attitude that oozes from your pores when you wake-up in the morning and stays with you all day long. You know the attitude I am talking about; the attitude that is part of who you are at your core.

If you have a bad attitude, this would be a reflection of who you are inside your soul. If you want to change your attitude, you would first have to change what resides deep down in your soul. If your soul is battered, tattered, and torn, you may want to ask the Lord for His assistance. He can heal a broken soul only if you allow Him to. You will want to ask for an Attitude that can support love, kindness, joy, goodness, and corrective discipline. When you are truly thankful and grateful you will find that a positive attitude will flow from you. And I promise you that it will be noticed by everyone you encounter.

Here is a pet-peeve that drives me nuts. People that make promises and don't keep them. Far too many people make promises they can't keep. They may have good intentions when making a promise, but they don't realize by making a promise that they don't keep taints who they are. No matter what happens in your life your words will stand the test of time. People can take all physical possessions from you, but they can't take your knowledge or your word from you. If your word means nothing, you are nothing. No one will take you seriously. If you do make a promise, you will want to make a plan to fulfill it. If you make a future commitment, you must grasp how important it is to follow through with your promise. You should be willing to do whatever it takes to complete your obligation. The reason why so many relationships fail would be due to all parties involved not understanding what it takes to have a wonderful relationship. They do not plan for or understand the sacrifices each must make for the relationship to flourish and work.

Let me bring up something positive to share with you. In general, we usually get from others and ourselves what we expect. The law of expectancy is very powerful. If you don't know what you want, 99.9% of the time you will never obtain it. You must take aim at what you want if you expect to hit your target. Blind men and women don't make good knife throwers. I'm sure you would agree. A very successful friend of mine shared this with me; "you will either live up to your expectations or fall short of them. If you expect nothing, you usually end up with nothing. You should know that something from nothing leaves nothing. If you expect to be mediocre then don't expect anything more than average. If you expect to feel bad, you will feel bad. It is a fact that you are what you think about all the time. So, with that being said, if you expect to feel wonderful there will be nothing standing in your way of feeling that way. And always know that if it is possible for you to feel that way, it is also possible for others to feel that way.

The difference between mediocre employees and exceptional employees would be the training they receive. The only thing worse than training employees and losing them is to not train them and keep them. That sounds like an axiom I heard many years ago; "what is worse than a person that can't read, that would be a person that can read and won't." When you think of training as practice and preparation, it makes you wonder how people survive that do not practice and prepare. It is a must that people invest in themselves. In essence, people that do not prepare and invest in their ability don't make the grade. If you want to improve and move from good to excellent, you will want to adopt a rigorous training program and stick to it.

Finally, you will want to seek out what you want in life. If you look for the good things in life, you will find them. If you look for opportunities to prosper and grow from, you will find them. If you look for positive and insightful people that will support you and push you to be your best, you will find them. Then again, if you look for ways to swindle and cheat, you will end up doing just that. If you look for ways to justify leaving your spouse, you will find them. If you look for reasons to hate another, you will find them. It is natural for us to justify what we need or want. If you are not living by lawful standards of integrity, honesty, loyalty, love, and faith, you will be drawn to selfish indulgence, and that leads to misery and unfulfilled dreams. Whatever you have will never be enough. Always look for the good and for ways to help others and you will see that positive things will come from such acts.

Learn How Positive Thinking Can Turn Your Mind Into An Unstoppable, Creative Force

Brene Brown said the following statement, and I quote, "Creativity is the way I share my soul with the world." Close quote. Bob Ross shared his creativity and imagination through the stroke of a brush and revealed to the world what he was thinking in his mind. Stephen King did not become a prolific author until he wrote down the words and stories that still frighten us today. So, what about you? What is holding you back from sharing your dreams and creativity with the rest of the world? Somewhere, in the dark recesses of your mind is a room that has not been lit; what are you waiting for? Are you going to flip on the light switch or leave your creativity sitting in darkness? For those who are reluctant to share their dreams and turn them into a reality, I will take you by the hand and walk you down the paths of self-development so that you can know how positive thinking can turn your mind into an unstoppable, creative force.

Discipline

The brain and the mind are 2 separate, distinct entities; the brain is a gray-colored organ that is filled with neurons, tissue, blood vessels, and is the main center for all our body functions and movements. The mind is where our conscience (the little voice in our head), dreams, visions, and creativity is located. The reason discipline is at the top of the list is because the mind is where it all begins; the willpower and determination. The mind is always active 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Learning how to discipline your mind is the key to your success and well-being. The mind likes to wander or get distracted easily; the way you can prevent your mind from wandering is by focusing your attention on the task at hand. Prioritize the items that need to get done first, then turn all your attention to your skill, craft, or changing a personal habit.

Action

Creativity will remain dead in your mind unless you take action to make your dreams come true. Once you have figured out what it will take to discipline your mind, get to work on your self-development plan. Stopping a bad habit is not an easy task to overcome, so you must get creative on how you can change your life, after all, happiness is a goal that we all wish to achieve. Think of the freedom that you will get when you are free from that little master (addiction) or feel the financial burden, lifted from your shoulders when you let your creativity out of your mind.

Passion

I love to write articles, there are so many words and ideas that are floating around in my head that I am constantly typing them on my computer or iPhone. I love to share my ideas with people around the world so that I can help them find answers to their problems. For you, the reader, if your self-development plan is all about improving your article writing skills, be sure to include that you will have a positive attitude when you are typing your article. People can always tell when you have a negative attitude from the articles you write.

Addiction is a problem that causes most marriages to end in divorce. For the person, who is trapped by some form of addiction, I want you to ask yourself this question,"Whom do you love most? Your family or that substance which does not love back?" If you have that love and passion for your family and want to make them happy, then you must get creative and find a way to rebuild your marital or family relationship. Positive thinking will help you overcome any addiction you have.

Discover

Human beings are inventors, adventurers, and pioneers; starting today, you can start down the path to personal greatness by flipping on that light switch and bring your creativity into the light. You may have discovered a new parenting tip on how to teach your children to behave or a new method of how to overcome any addiction. All it takes is to open that notebook and unleash your creativity.

In conclusion, I hope that you have learned how positive thinking can turn your mind into an unstoppable, creative force. Please, feel to share your comments on self-development.

The Power Of Self Development (By Mark Huddleston)

Let me share a story that a multi-millionaire shared with me back in 1998. This story changed the way I saw the world and inevitably my life. For those of you that wonder why you cannot get any further in life, you might want to pay close attention to what I am about to share with you. I have always been a hard-working person. I was never late coming to work and in most cases, was the last to leave. It seemed like no matter what I did to get ahead with my employer, never sufficed. At this time is when I met a very important mentor in my life. Still to this day I do not know why this person took interest in me, but he did, and I am so thankful that he did.

From the very first day I met this man I knew I was in for a treat. He told me that I was somebody and that I was special. I had never been told this before by anyone. Not even my parents or teachers had told me that ever. When someone makes you feel good about who you are it does something to you. It gives you a boost of confidence. You feel as if you can move a mountain or stop a river just by encouraging words being uttered. Wow! Oh, what a feeling.

One thing that this man shared with me was the power of self-development. I mentioned to him how much money I made on my job and he said that is not all they pay, and I told him that he was wrong. He then said, no, that is all they pay you. I know they pay other people more than you. I told him that he was correct. From that day on I made a vow to do what I could to better myself do I could do better for myself.

The man in question told me to pick up every book that interested me and attend every seminar that peaked my interest. Still to this day I have followed that mans advice. I have seen my self-confidence skyrocket along with my income. I have gone from a nobody to a somebody. I am a true believer that If you can believe it, you can obtain it. But the only way to get you where you want to go is through self-development. Nothing else well get you there. He also stated that your income can never surpass your knowledge. No truer words have been spoken.

How Your Thoughts Really Become Reality

Image result for gut feeling

Often, people ask me where does the term 'gut feeling' come from, and this is a very interesting question. We tend to forget that actually we have three minds. Yes three. We have our conscious mind, then we have our subconscious mind, and then, we have our abdominal mind.

What is our abdominal mind?
Better known as the solar plexus, this the point on your body where your nerve system is complex. In Hindu texts, this is the point of your body where your spirituality and self-power is generated. It is the most sensitive part of your chest. It sits within the area of your stomach (at the back) and your just before your diaphragm. It is where the celiac trunk, renal arteries and superior mesenteric artery is split away from the abdominal aorta. Of course, once we start to think about this area, we get an immediate understanding about the feelings of 'butterflies' we get in anticipation of something and other similar sensations experienced in the gut area.

It is an intricate web of nerves, tissue and blood vessels. It is where we get our instinctive drive from. When we fear something, we experience a shift in emotion in this area. It is also the area of the body where we feel anxiety, excitement, apprehension and stress. Actors feel stage fright here. Athletes feel their power surge here before the start of a race. It is the place in our spiritual body where we experience will, self-development and action.

In Chakra, this is the most important area in meditation. We associate it with the colour yellow and the stone, Amber. Our feelings of self-belief come from here.

Our thoughts about our image, confidence and ability also derive from here. This is why when this Chakra isn't in balance, we feel anxiety, depression and guilt. When it is fully active and balanced, we are more likely to make powerful decisions, take risks, step out into the unknown. When we do this, we experience growth both spiritually and emotionally.

So how does this fit into turning things into reality?
First, we generate an idea in our conscious mind. This might be an idea that's given to us from an external source or it might be one that appears when we are given some information to think about. Ideas are vibrations that are all around us. When we expand our knowledge of a subject, we expand our awareness, thus attracting ideas into our conscious mind.

Next, this idea now in our conscious mind shifts vibration. For an idea to 'stick' the vibration of the idea needs to be IN EXACT FREQUENCY as our paradigm (the selection of thoughts and beliefs we have about ourselves and about the world around us.) If the idea is NOT, then we reject the idea and shift our conscious thought onto something else. Don't forget, the conscious mind has the ability to accept or reject ANYTHING. This is why it is highly important to change your belief system first if you want to change your thoughts and change your results.

So what happens if we want to hold onto this new idea?
This new idea you want to accept, you need to impress onto your subconscious mind for it to stick. Of course, this doesn't come naturally to you. It shifts your thinking onto a new vibration.

One you might not have felt before and the result of this new vibration is a sensation of worry, doubt, fear and anxiety. You feel uncomfortable. You toy with this new idea and worry about it. This fear comes from your paradigm because your conscious mind WANTS you to throw out the idea. It simply doesn't fit in with your existing belief system.

What happens next to make the idea stick?
This is the hard part. You want this new vibration to stick. So, you ignore your worries and your doubts and you go for it. It will make you feel uneasy but once you have turned that idea into action, your behaviour will shift and the idea will become reality. You probably won't know how you're going to get to your goal, but don't worry. (This is the point where 95% of the population with back away and go back to their old ways again) Go for the desire, reach the goal.

Your subconscious mind will guide you there. Your subconscious mind controls your actions and your physiology. It will show you the way. All you have to do is trust the infinite knowledge you have in your solar plexus. Trusting this is the second hard part. It feels unnatural to you and your immediate feeling is to turn back. Fight through the barrier of beliefs that always stop you in your tracks.

That is how your thought becomes a thing.

How Peaceful Men Live

Man in Red Crew-neck Sweatshirt Photography

They are men who found how to live. They are men who feel alive with themselves because of who they are and what they have become. They are men of genius.

They walk around comfortable in their own shoes, love to share themselves with others and you can see that material possession, power or wealth is not of their interest. They desire family and self-development over material gain.

But if you closely examine these men in your everyday life they are secured with themselves and life in general. They have found how to co-exist with it. That is the key to their success they have found how to live together in harmony with life.

They have a strong burning passion for life. They strive to be the very best at everything and when they cannot they don't bother to get themselves over whelm, they just keep trying it's in them to learn and improve.

Something amazing radiates from these men. They radiate greatness. It's in their eyes to strive for peace. They have a hungry determination to devour the world but give back. They make the world work for them and not the other way around.

They have a unique way of walking in life, as if nothing could stop them, nothing bothers these people. They are determined to live. They have a soothing calming semblance in their face, it says peace.

Mattering

If you observe a peaceful man they feel like they matter. Their attitude is unique because they feel that their existence matters to others and themselves. They walk around with a sense of importance as if nothing will knock them down. Feeling important about themselves helps them be at peace with themselves and those around them.

But not all is happiness for these men, they will share with you their failures, cries, disappointments and pains with you if you allow yourself to be taught and listen. Really listen to them perhaps they will convince you live like them.

One important thing about a peaceful man is he has no fear. They wake up every morning and look at the big-red sun with a smile and they're ready to tackle the day despite their moods.

They love themselves.

They don't talk or blabber about being someone else when they are feeling down, no. They have no time to envy others, because they believe in themselves. The effort and time they have invested in themselves is the gift they gave themselves to appreciate life. They are not stupid to let it be another.

They sculpt and polish themselves into uniqueness. This helps them feel special. They matter. He matters to himself. He values himself.

He is full of flaws but they are men who do not fear the opinion of others. When a person is determined to create peace within they find it and strive with their every breath to keep alive.

They are true to themselves because they are not perfect and accept these flaws. They work on them.

Their biggest asset is honesty with themselves.

They change their flaws, try and try over and over again until they are satisfied with the creation. They never give up, it's not in their mind to think such things. They do not feel sorry for themselves.

A focused man finds peace because nothing in the world will take him off his tracks, he's serious about where he's heading and knows that will bring him peace. That is why he strives to make it and nothing will stop him.

Peaceful men do not have time to waste. These are true men who know how to live. Is that you?

Knowledge Is NOT Power

We always hear the phrase knowledge is power, and yes in some ways it is true. However I believe that knowledge is potential power. A person can be very knowledgeable in many areas but it is what he does with this knowledge that matters. What is the use of knowledge if it stays trapped in someone's mind?

First let us take a look at what Knowledge means; according to Wikipedia, it is a familiarity, awareness or understanding of someone or something, such as facts, information, description, or skills which is acquired through experience or education by perceiving, discovering or learning.

To let this knowledge come full circle and really be powerful and that is when you do something with this knowledge. Helping others, teaching others, here lays the true value in making knowledge powerful.

One should always aspire to seek knowledge and self-development, keep evolving benefiting oneself and others. The majority of us know what needs to be done to be healthy, happy and more satisfied in our lives, yet we do little to accomplish these things; as usual, it requires a lot of hard work, discipline and perseverance to reach the things we aim for. It takes strength and a lot of faith to do the things that one is supposed to do, not just feels like doing. Instead of spending endless hours indulging oneself in meaningless activities and actually getting up and doing what counts is not always appealing. I am not implying that one does not take a break every once in a while and relax and enjoy doing nothing, but that should not be the norm, but more like a reward after tasks are completed and goals reached.

We always talk about "the day" when our life will magically fall into place and we will find happiness then, the thing is the path we are walking and the journey to getting to where we want should be part of the happiness and satisfaction, the journey is every bit as important to where we are getting. Dreaming alone of that magical happy time and place, will only be that, a dream... unless one makes use of the path being walked on and learn from all experiences along the way whether good or bad, for it will make reaching the end goal so much sweeter and worth it.

So next time you learn something new, and realize of the knowledge you hold, keep in mind it will only truly be valuable with what you do with it. Make a difference, make knowledge become powerful with your actions.

Reduced Stress Improves Your Natural Self Development Prospects

If you are working on self-development then you are probably striving towards reducing stress and being happier. Self-awareness and knowledge are big parts of becoming happy. On the other side, feeling fulfilled and successful, will achieve high self-esteem and contribute to over-all happiness.

A great way to start becoming happier in your life, is to accomplish major goals and aspirations and you can begin the journey of personal development, by checking out some of the easily attainable milestones as articulated below.

1 - Look for goals you have been putting off and get to work on them, in order to improve your personal development performance. Ambitious goals and multiple goals are good things - unless you tend to leave some of them unattended. Make a plan that moves you towards your problem goals, at least a little bit every day.

2 - Self development does not happen overnight, so it's best to make an honest assessment of how far you have to go in order to achieve your goals. Acknowledge and evaluate the distance between your current status and your personal development goals. This will enable you to make a path that is customized for your life and goals.

3 - Don't just base your ideas on your financial handling capability. You need to realize that there is going to be a risk to take with your decision, no matter how much money you have. It is okay to take a hit on something uncertain as long as it does not completely put you out on the street.

4 - Try your best to avoid stimulants as a stress buster. The word stimulants includes things like coffee, energy drinks, and even nicotine. All of these things directly affect your metabolism. While this might not be a bad thing all of the time, you should be wary that it can be. If you find yourself in a negative mood monitor your use of stimulants more closely.

5 - Break those bad habits. Habits like smoking and drinking alcohol are not just bad for your health, they negatively influence others' opinions of you. They even negatively influence your opinion of yourself. Furthermore, bad habits are often expensive. Make the decision to get rid of them once and for all!

If you feel that you are constantly under stress and unable to reach your desired prospects in life, then you need to stop and reassess your goals and what you are doing to reach them. Look for resources related to your issues and ask your friends about their struggles. You also might find that your goals are indeed not realistic, or that some other critical resource is needed before your goal can be realized.

Meeting or aligning your prospects, whatever they are, will create a huge sense of success and rightly so. You can use some of the tips that you have just read over, to help you to take the first step toward happiness. If there has been a desire to travel somewhere exotic, take the trip to majestic Thailand. You can even knit your first pair of socks or find a better stress-free job or really, just any little thing that you have ever wanted to try.

Is It Selfish to Love Myself?

Is it Selfish to Love Myself?

This question has been confusing for me for a long time, until I finally figured out the answer a few months ago. I felt a great relief and excitement to try out different ways to love myself and enjoy the benefits. My relationship with others has magically improved ever since. So, I'd like to share my findings with you and hopefully this may bring you some value.

The fundamental difference between these two is that being selfish is a result of lacking something internally and not being aware of that. It could be a lack of love, confidence, security or real happiness. People who are selfish have likely not yet accepted what they lack and instead of working on these areas, they unconsciously try to get other people to meet these needs for them. The intention is always on others. Whether it's about what they can get from others, defending themselves from others or demanding things from others... Even though it may not be pleasant to come across such a situation, but knowing that these people are just trying to get their internal needs met, may provide us with more options to how better react to it.

Self-love happens when someone is AWARE about themselves and FULLY embracing themselves as the way they are. People who love themselves take responsibility and full ownership of their own needs and wants. They know that they are in charge of their needs and they are able to meet these needs by themselves. They set healthy personal boundaries and express what they want and need in a kind manner. The intention is not to "take" from others, but to respect and meet their own needs.

Knowing that, we always need to put on our own oxygen mask first, and then help others. Why is that? Imagine if you feel very tired and need to catch up with sleep, but you've made an appointment with your partner for dinner and a movie tonight. What would you do? If you proceed anyway without expressing your tired feeling and the need to sleep, you may not be able to be present during the dinner and movie. You may react emotionally to your partner because you unconsciously sacrificed yourself. Even if nothing goes wrong, would you really enjoy the whole experience? As a result, would you be happy? Would your partner be happy? Now, let's go back to the oxygen mask question, the reason is when we have met our own needs, it allows us to better help others to meet their needs. Similarly, when we love ourselves, it allows us to better love people around us.

At this point, you may still not be 100% clear on the difference between "love yourself" and "being selfish". It's OK. We can try to go deeper and let's take the last paragraph's example. You may worry that expressing your feelings and needs may upset your partner, may cause an argument or being judged as selfish. I agree that there are different ways of communicating and with different people it works differently. But keep in mind expressing your feelings and needs doesn't mean imposing your wants on your partner. It's about expressing your true-self and seeking for understanding and mutual agreement. It's important to allow your partner to choose what they want to do to best get their own needs met. In this case, they may choose to just have a simple dinner and postpone the movie. They may choose to let you rest and go to dinner and movie with someone else. They may also choose to postpone the whole plan. Being able to express yourself truly and respect your partner's choice creates real intimacy for the relationship which can allow you both to better love each other in the future. This does not only apply to loving relationship, but to any kind of relationship. Can you notice how it's different from being selfish? If your partner is not able to provide understanding and support your primary needs, allow yourself to be with a different partner. This is another topic which we can look into next time.

If you feel you struggle with loving yourself, you can actually find plenty of recourses on the internet, books, videos, podcasts, etc. In fact, self-love is the ultimate goal for all kind of self-development and spiritual works. It's a well developed area. Here I would like to just introduce two little tips which have helped me in the past.

1, Write a list of things you are good at and things you really appreciate yourself for. It can be as small as "I cook yummy chicken soup." Or "I draw well." If you really struggle with this, you can ask your friends to help. Ask them to write down "What do you benefit from being friends with me?" Add the answer to your list. Every day, review the list when you wake up and before you sleep, allow yourself to feel the joy of reading it through.

2, Whenever you don't know what to do or which decision to make, ask yourself "What would someone who loves themselves do?" accept the answer and act on it. When you ask yourself this question, your intuition will automatically give you the answer, it doesn't matter how small the decision is. It could be "Should I have an apple or a banana?" Your intuition knows at that particular moment, an apple or a banana would be better for your body.

Learn How to Increase The Brain Power

Self-development plays an important role in strengthening your self-esteem and will-power, but the root of all happiness and financial security begins at one place; your brain. I have written many articles on self-improvement and personal development, so, today I am going to focus on how to increase the brain power so that you can become an unstoppable force in your chosen talent or profession.

Without brain power, which includes creativity and imagination; there would be no discoveries in any field of academics, there would be no buildings or any types of transportations, and we would always be in a depressed state because there is no motivation.

As an article writer, I am constantly using my mental capabilities to come up with original articles, if I don't use this brain power on a regular basis, I would lose the ability to come up with a new idea for an article or I would have a hard time getting back into a writing mode after a long break. Using your brain power in self-development will help you find success in your life because of that dream and vision that is in your mind. Recently, I saw an episode of American Ninja Warrior where a participant wore a prosthetic leg, despite being physically handicap; he pushed through the obstacles course with only one leg (before he started the course, he removed the prosthetic leg). Now, imagine being in that situation, cancer had just taken your leg, would you tackle that course or make some excuse and walk away? This young man should true brain and will-power as he did not let his disabilities get the best of him. Even though he did not finish the course, he should true grit and courage by going through that obstacle course. From what I saw on his facial expression was look of satisfaction and happiness; through his actions, he inspired many people on the sidelines as they cheered for him.

When tough times appear or you are having trouble overcoming a personal issue; do not give up or do not back down. Discipline your mind by establishing a positive attitude and you will overcome any obstacle.

Einstein used his brain power for studying, observing, and learning. The result was that he made a difference in academics.

Edison used his brain power to overcome failure. The end result was that he made the first light bulb.

Here are some ways in which you can help boost your brain to the next level:

1. Stay away from negative comments on social media that is not constructive criticism. These types of negative comments will drain your brain power in a way that you won't be motivated to do anything.

2. Treat your brain good through exercise and healthy eating. This type of fuel will keep brain running at a high level so that you can do anything.

3. Engage in self-development programs that will help keep you motivated for the rest of your life.

From this article, I showed you how to increase the brain power so that you can become an unstoppable force. There is no need to go and buy expensive medication or supplements to improve the brain function, all you need is the brain power to succeed.

Why Positive Thinking Does Not Work Until You Do It Correctly?

Does positive thinking work at all?

This is something contentious for many years in this self-development industry.

While having a positive attitude is generally better than being negative and complaining how bad the situation is, you can't rely on some delusional wishful thinking that blinds yourself from dealing with the real problem.

Yes, it's true that we should focus on the solution instead of the problem.

Yes, it's true that we should remain calm and master our emotions.

Yes, it's true that a negativity-dominated mind will toxic our blood and ruin our well-being.

But if you just think positively about the mess and don't take action to remedy the situation, no real positive things are going to happen.

In a research study in 2011, Gabrielle Oettingen, Professor of Psychology at New York University and the University of Hamburg, found that the more time people spend on indulging in a positive fantasy, the less energy they are going to generate to pursue the desired future, and thus the less likely they actually take action to reach the goal.

So positive thinking is actually a self-delusional tool that tricks our minds into perceiving that we've already reached our goals, and thus we have a decreased motivation to actually pursue it.

Shocking finding, isn't it?

The good news is there's actually a mental strategy that you can use now to fulfill your wishes and dreams.

It's called the WOOP strategy, also known as the Mental Contrasting with Implementation Intentions (MCII) in scientific terms.

Basically, WOOP stands for Wish, Outcome, Obstacle, and Plan.

Firstly, you do want to think, dream, wish or visualize the outcome you want to achieve in the next 30 days. It should be something challenging that requires you to stretch yourself to attain it.

Secondly, you will think about what's so great about achieving that outcome. How good does it feel to fulfill that accomplishment? Imagine the scenario.

Thirdly and most importantly, you must also imagine the possible obstacles, challenges or hindrances of reality that might prevent you from achieving that outcome. What are your inner conflicts or beliefs that might sabotage you? What are the thoughts that might pop up that don't serve you? What bad old habits might hold you back? Imagine those fully as well.

Finally, you want to plan out what you are going to do when the obstacles actually appear. Use this "If... (obstacle), then I will... (action or thought)" formula to overcome your challenges.

This powerful WOOP method is scientifically proven to strengthen your mental associations, increase your energy, and enhance your performance. You're going to feel more motivated to make clear decisions, take actions and engage with the world at large.

It's time to give up the idea of "thinking positively".

Go implement the WOOP method.

Shift your focus from your goals to the action-oriented process.

And go take massive real world action to overcome the obstacles you've envisioned!

Please, feel free to share your comments on self-development.

Really? There Are Things You Can Change About Yourself To Be Peaceful Within

Really! There are things we can change about ourselves to be at peace within? Just like the title says it, you bet ya.

Well, let's get down to business. Man wants to be at peace with itself and just like you, we want peace in our lives as well.

But, to get there we have to change things about ourselves to create this inner peace in our heads.

First the world is not going to change for us, we have to get it through our thick numskull heads. We need to grow up and stop acting as little children and see the brutal bloody reality that it's not them, it's us. Brutal eh?

I am just being honest here, there are things we MUST change about ourselves to get there. Stop playing the sympathy card we are strong man, man in tights, well not exactly but soldiers.

Okay, I am ready. Are you? Getting to the nitty giddy, you want peace, I want peace, we all want an increased peace of mind and perhaps the whole sha bang as well! Yummy. This reminded me a bit about cake. Anyway, we want peace, tranquility everything that is related, concern or married to being well. That is why you're reading this.

But one thing that is for sure keeping us from being at peace with ourselves is our own idea about perfection. We want to think we are perfect or hope others see us as perfect even though in the inside we are dying slowly, melting away.

We come up with these crazy ideas that come our of the blue, "I am not perfect, they are not perfect, why in the world do I have high standards for others... etc... etc... "

Just thinking about this makes me bonkers. But let's be honest and sincere here, we are not at peace in our own mind because we want everything to be perfect, polished, dent-free and because our lives are not a certain way or because we are not a certain way we cry.

Staple a sheet of paper on your forehead that says " I am not perfect and should not expect others to be". Perhaps, and I am saying here perhaps this will help, but more than likely it will not.

We are stubborn people that want fast results, certain things to happen, logical beings, squared, rigid and we want things to be a certain way. Too bad they are not, sorry to burst your navy blue bubble.

I guess what I am saying here is, we have to change us. We have to stop expecting others to change for us when they will not.

We have to grab our... and look at ourselves in the mirror and change. We want to feel that sensation of tranquility in our lives. We need to stop blaming others for our unhappiness or troubled mind. Oh I hope this works.

I guess you're right. We need to change. There is no easy way to this. It's just us against the world. We can do this, if we change the world will not affect us. If they change, well, that would be awesome, but no, they will not change. We change.

How will we get there? It's simple we know that getting there is a personal process, self-development or improvement what ever you want to call it. We have to have hope for ourselves.

Most of us are not at peace with ourselves because we are such pessimistic, miserable people, we're just good old plain negative about everything, come on shine me some light here, I am dying.

Hope, this is what is going to save us. We must have hope that we will gain peace in our lives, hope that we know how to get there, hope that we will learn to work on ourselves.

We are hopeful people and peaceful folks.

Live up to your potential, that is what we must do.

Self-Development: Is Being Curious An Important Part Of Being Able To Heal?

If one had a TV that stopped working, there is a strong chance that they would want to know why. This comes down to the fact that if they were to simply ignore it, they wouldn't be able to watch anything.

Being curious about what is taking place is then going to have a positive effect on their life, and this is not something that will cause them to experience pain. If it did, it could be because they will have to end up paying money in order for it to be fixed, and this will cause them to experience discomfort.

Not As Bad

However, even if one did have to pay to get the TV fixed, it is unlikely to be as painful as it would be if they had to go without one. As a result of this, they are going to be willing to tolerate the pain that they would have to go through.

This is an approach that one will take in many other areas of their life, and it will stop them from having to suffer unnecessarily. If one was unable to respond in this way when something isn't right, it would cause them a lot of problems.

Pleasure and Pain

One way of looking at this would be to say that through having the ability to experience pain, it gives one the ability to take action. Therefore, through paying attention to this pain, it will then allow one to experience pleasure.

But even though that is the case, it could be said that it is the need to know what is wrong that will get the ball moving, so to speak. Without having this need, there would be no reason for one to do anything.

Not Separate

Still, if one didn't experience some kind of discomfort, there is the chance they wouldn't have the need to be curious. Thus, it might be better to say that these two things are not separate, and they rely on each other in order to function.

But with that aside, what this emphasises is how important it is for one to be curious when it comes to solving a problem. When this doesn't exist, it can mean that one will end up putting up with something that will cause them to suffer in one way or another.

Pain

What this will then mean is that the pain they are experiencing will be overlooked and one will try to carry on with their life. But while this might work in the short-term, it is unlikely to work in the long-term.

This is an approach that one can take when they have mental and emotional problems and/or when their relationships are not going as they would like them to go. One is then not facing their life head on; they are doing what they can to avoid it.

The Traditional Route

Now, this is not to say that one won't go and see their doctor about what is going on for them, as they could end up being put on some kind of medication. Yet even if one was to do this, it doesn't mean that it would allow them to heal themselves or to improve their relationships.

What this could result in is one being disconnected from how they feel, and this is not exactly going to make their life more fulfilling. Along with this, the side effects could end up causing them even more problems as time goes on.

Resistance

And while being curious about why their life is the way it is would give them the chance to move forward, it will also cause them to experience pain. It is then similar to one wanting to go into a dark room to find out what is in there, but the fear of what they may find stops them from having a look.

This powerful ability is then going to be out of action and one will continue to experience life in the same way. It is then not going to be someone else who is holding them back; they are going to be the ones who are sabotaging their life.

Problems

It can then be normal for them to put up with feeling depressed, down, fearful and/or anxious, for instance. Their relationships could be unfulfilling, or they could be abusive in some way.

The people around them could tell them to stay strong and be supportive of what they are going through, but this is not going to change their life. Alternatively, one could be surrounded by people who act as though they have it all together and they could try to rescue them.

Being Curious

If one was to get to the point where they have had enough of suffering, it could cause them to look for answers. They are then aware that this will cause them to experience even more pain, but this won't stop them.

Perhaps they realise that even though this pain might be stronger, it is unlikely to be something that will last forever. This is because the mental and emotional problems that one can have as an adult can be symptoms of something that took place in the past, as can their relational challenges.

A Process

If one was to look for answers, they could end up doing an internet search and/or reading a book, for instance. The first step has then been taken, and they could soon find what they are looking for.

This is not to say that this will be it, as they could soon have the desire to find out about something else. One could also look for something and find that they can't find the answer straight away, but this is part of life.

Awareness

At the end of the day, one's personal growth is important, and even if one can't find something or what they do doesn't work, it doesn't mean they should give up. The main thing is that one keeps going, and through being this way, there is the chance they will gradually find what they are looking for and heal themselves in the process.

Get Off The Merry Go Round And Regain Your Identity

If you feel like you've lost your identity and sense of self, one thing you can do is to change your routine and set some very firm boundaries with your loved ones. Do you feel like the majority of your free time is spent doing things for others? This could include your spouse, your children, your mother, sister, even your best friend, or even an elderly neighbor or relative.

We all want to be nice to others, right? We want to nurture, to be helpful, we want to please others, and make life easier for them. There's nothing wrong with that at all. But if you relegate yourself and your needs to dead last every time, it can cause serious problems long-term, not only for you but for the loved ones you try so hard to help!

Ask yourself these questions:

  • When you finally collapse into bed at night, is it normally well after midnight?
  • Are you still up at night doing housework or prepping for the morning routine, well after everyone else is in bed?
  • When the house is empty, do you wish you could just sit down and do nothing instead of the myriad of tasks and errands on your "should do" list?
  • Was the last time you FINISHED reading an entire book, just for pleasure, more than six months ago?
  • Do you feel you are increasingly cranky, irritable, or short-tempered with your spouse, children, or other loved ones?
  • Do you cringe when your phone rings because it most likely means someone wants to add to your "to do" list?
  • When someone asks you what you do for fun or what you're passionate about, do all your answers center around your work, kids, spouse, or someone other than you?

If you answer more than one of these questions with a resounding "YES", then it's time for you to take some steps to get off the merry-go-round and regain your individual identity. This doesn't mean that you will stop caring for your spouse, your children, or any of your other loved ones. It just means you are going to make a conscious effort to step back and let them do more for themselves instead of handling everything for them.

This technique is actually quite simple but may take a lot of practice for you to perfect it at first. If you are diligent, the payoff will be worth it in the end. Are you ready?

Schedule an Errand Day

Think about your weekly schedule and pick out at least one day to run errands outside of the house. You can pick two if it makes sense for your schedule. The idea is to have set in your head that "Thursday afternoons" are my errand day. Try not to schedule appointments or other things on that day.

Once your errand day or days are firm in your head, start doing all errands only on your scheduled errand day. Things like picking up/dropping off dry cleaning, getting supplies for your daughter's project, mailing packages, buying stamps, taking the dog to the groomer, etc. If it's not a life altering errand, then any task that takes you outside of the house goes on the errand list.

It's sometimes a good idea to do this yourself for a week or two, until you are in the habit of the set errand day. Once you master it, formally announce your new routine to your loved ones. Get them together and say something like "From now on, Thursday afternoons are my errand day. If there is anything you need me to do or buy from outside the house, let me know before Thursday so I can get it on my list."

The hard part is once you announce it, you will need to stick to it. If your husband comes to you on Friday and needs his best suit cleaned, it either waits till Thursday or he drops it off and picks it up himself. The same for the kids or an elderly neighbor. If this seems just too hard line for you, then you can make up some "urgent request" vouchers. Give each person one "urgent request" voucher a month. Only do this for the first couple of months until everyone, including you, is used to the new system.

After a few weeks, you'll realize that you suddenly have some free time during the week. All those precious moments running to/from the store multiple times per week, standing in line to check out, etc. It's all condensed into one day. The rest of your days will be less fractured, and your productivity and focus should naturally increase. You get more done in less time without the distraction of errands.

Use it as "me time". Learn something you've always wanted to learn, read one of those books you bought but never finished, take an online course, start a blog, practice yoga, or use the time to set goals for yourself. The only requirement for the activity you add to fill in the newly freed time is that it must be something for you, just for pleasure, fun, or self-development.

If you have trouble sticking to this technique or you need additional help setting boundaries and regaining your sense of self, consider enlisting the help of a life coach that specializes in this area.

Successful People Take A Lot of Self-Development

Successful individuals consider hard work, determination and commitment as the ingredients to getting at the top of the corporate ladder. Yes, these three elements are very important if a working individual like you will want to succeed in life. However, all these are not easy to do. It would take a lot of self-discipline and self-development to achieve all your dreams and goals in life.

Self-discipline is something that not all people are good at. Diabetics are so hard-headed that they can't control their sweet tooth even if it means higher risk of getting a diabetic attack. Individuals who have arthritis would promise never again to eat the food that cause the joint pains yet when they feel well, they can no longer remember their promises.

Why does eating unhealthy food feel so yummy when in fact it can give you health problems later on?

Though not all dread the word "self-discipline," there are others who are victorious in this aspect. If the doctors tell them to stop smoking to save their lungs, they are willing to do it even if it means losing their favorite pastime. Mind you, quitting smoking is not easy. It needs a lot of self-discipline not to be tempted by the cigarette aroma.

But when you have already mastered the art of self-discipline, expect to become a master, too, in self-development.

"It takes two to tango," as a saying goes. It means without a partner, you can't do the things you want to do. That's why in your professional career, you need the help and guidance of someone who can give you with all the knowledge you need.

At work, your boss is there to help you do your job better and become more productive. In trainings and workshops, there is always the trainer or facilitator who guides you through all the process of learning. At school, there is the teacher who moulds you into what you have become.

In sports, there is the coach who imparts the techniques, strategies, and even the rules so you can play the game wisely. At home, your parents and siblings or relative are there to give you love, support and guidance.

Except for those born with a silver spoon whose position in a company is given, climbing up the corporate ladder needs to be worked on. If you want to be the company's top executive officer, learn everything about the business, know how it is being run, and what keeps it going.

Most often, good customer service makes up the higher percentage of reasons why billionaire companies are successful. And if you consider this as an important aspect to your success, then learn everything about it and apply in your company.

Sometimes, self-development doesn't need to benefit only yourself. It also means sharing what you learned and apply it on your everyday life while making sure to continually expand your learnings and explore everything there is to be explored. This way, your professional life would never become boring.

Starting at the Core

When working on self-development, you have to start with something. In philosophy, Descartes doubted everything he could until he reached his core realization: "I think, therefore I am." In self-development, the core is not thought but values. What are your core values? That question becomes the basis of your journey of improvement.

Each of us has a unique set of values. They may be similar to others, but never an exact copy. It is one of the qualities which make us unique. You can spend a lifetime knowing another person, but unless you recognize the differences in core values that person will still surprise you.

Our values come from a variety of sources. Some of the more common sources are upbringing, organizations, and readings. Our parents start the process by teaching us as children; we watch and listen to our parents, learning what they value, acting in ways we hope they would approve. To this is added the organizations we are part of: the schools, the churches, the clubs, the troops. These organizations can be formal or informal, but all organizations are based on some set of principles which we learn and abide by, at least as long as we are a member of the group. The books we read provide another source of value input; books we have to read (such as for school) and books we choose to read. Other sources include people we meet, our culture, the media, and more.

All of these sources combine to create our own unique set of core values. These values can change over time, either consciously or subconsciously. Until we learn our core principles, including the ones buried deep within, we cannot truly know ourselves. Recognize that core values are neither all good nor all bad, but they are one of the foundations of our actions.

Our beliefs determine what we like and don't like, and how strong our likings are. They influence our choice of friends, careers, and hobbies. They guide our choices of activities. Core values determine our goals and dreams, making some things desirable and others not. The worthiness of actions is judged by a standard set by our core values.

So, if we want to change, we need to identify our core values. This fact has been recognized by many people under many names, from Vic Johnson's "limiting beliefs" to T. Harv Eker's "mental blueprint" to Bob Proctor's "paradigms." Regardless of what they are called, change will only come from recognition of your unique set of core values and a conscious decision to change those values which are holding you back.

The phrase "Know thyself" has been around for a long time. Learning your personal set of core values is a key step in knowing yourself. Only after you know yourself can you begin to develop yourself. This is true self awareness.
