Living Life On Purpose - Easier Than You Think

People often contact me to discover their purpose for this life. This profound question has been kicked around for eons, centuries with psychics, fortune tellers and in many conversations. However, your purpose isn't the way the majority of people think. You may have asked yourself this question a million times or not. In those deep philosophical conversations, this question seems to pop up over and over again.

Everyone has a take on this contemplation or not. Some like to contemplate it like they may contemplate their navel, a mole, or a bunion. Like... what is this all about? Why do I have this? Is there a deeper meaning to my navel, my mole, or my whatever? Maybe there is no deeper meaning you might muse. Or maybe your body is drawing your attention out of your computer/brain to connect with your body? Could be!

Back to the question at hand... What is the purpose of life or, in fact, what is the purpose of my life? Maybe there is more than only one purpose. Maybe there is a plethora of purposes.

Purposes to contemplate or activate:

  1. How do I participate in life?
  2. Am I fully present in what I am doing?
  3. Am I "out-of-body" co-existing in another dimension?
  4. Am I in the correct profession for me? That's right..correct, not right!
  5. Do I like my life?
  6. Do I like my relationships?
  7. Do I know the difference between like and love or romance?
  8. Do I really know what love means or Tina's song.."What's Love Got To Do With It?
  9. Do I feel good about my Self?
  10. Do I like my Self?
  11. If I don't, why don't I like my Self?
  12. Do I have many limitations going on in my computer/brain?
  13. Do I know the real me?
  14. Is the real me buried deep underneath the rubble of life?
  15. Or, is the real me about to burst forth?
  16. Is there more than one purpose in life?

The 16th question leaves room for expansion... and you can ask a million questions, as you discover more about who you are. Why would there be only one purpose to life? You are multi-dimensional, so why not embrace having more than one purpose? How about having a plethora of purposes? Here are some ideas:

Purposes of life:

  1. Being a great friend to Self.
  2. Being a great friend to friends.
  3. Living my life consciously,
  4. Living my best life!
  5. Living fully engage in each moment
  6. Getting involved in every aspect of my life.
  7. Avoid giving my power away.
  8. Laugh at my Self.
  9. Avoid taking other people or my self seriously... if you do, go live on Sirius.
  10. Allow your Self to experience each moment.
  11. Live each day as if it were the first day of your life.
  12. Be impressed by the people you have brought into your life to learn about your Self.
  13. Be impressed with your Self.
  14. If you are creating lots of trauma and drama, write a new script and get off this traumatic reality show.
  15. Live your reality from your Heart.
  16. Choose role models who are real role models vs following indoctrination and conditioning.
  17. Get "it'... you have many purposes.

In the final analysis, your purpose for an in-body experience is for mental, emotional and spiritual growth. While this may not sound profound it is the most profound purpose for your eternal life. How you create your mental, emotional and spiritual growth is where you can put your unique footprint.
Now be creative, be clever, write down all the ways you can fulfill your purposes. Begin to create your life with these purposes in your heart each and every day. When someone asks you... "What is your purpose?" Ask them... "Which one do you want me to talk about? Go out and be on purpose, with your purpose to create your mental, emotional and spiritual growth!

Create Your Vision: Make It Personal

Two Women Holding Pen

Having a vision has been a strong lesson that has been taught for years. All level of leadership, e.g. presidents, governors, school principals, parents, CEO of a business, etc., all at some point recognize the importance of having a vision. In Proverbs 29:18, it states that where there is no vision, the people perish. When you have a vision, even just for your own life, it causes you to recognize your purpose for life. When you begin to think about your vision, you basically are answering the question about what your future will look like as you fulfill your purpose and destiny.

There are plenty of questions to ask yourself when you begin to create your vision. Here are 3 basic questions you can ask yourself for creating your vision:

If you had all the support you needed, what dream would you pursue? Most vision questions help you do what you did as a kid: imagine. I believe we adults are allowed to imagine when it's about a positive and joyful future. Some people will dream about spending more time to travel the world or becoming a highly successful entrepreneur. Whatever the dream is, nothing is too ridiculous to imagine. Become a kid sometimes and just imagine! It may actually make you smile more!

What is your favorite way to spend the day? As you describe all your favorite activities, you should begin to recognize how you feel. Most people may mention how relaxed they feel, how happy they feel, how peaceful they feel. For example, if your favorite activities include volunteering at the local homeless shelter and spending the rest of the evening with your family, you normally will feel some type of positive emotion when describing those activities. They'll make you smile and/or laugh because they're your favorite.

What do you want? No, what do you really want? This can be a tough question for some because most people feel they shouldn't be selfish. Being selfish for positive reasons is important because when you want to make positive changes, you must make it personal! Any questions you ask yourself, you must be completely honest as well. Knowing what you really want will allow you to answer honestly and make decisions that are loyal to you. Even if everything doesn't quite turn out exactly how you want, you are still capable of achieving great and positive results for your life.

There are more questions you can answer to really create a focused vision for your life. When you put all those answers together, you should be able to develop some goals and a plan of action to start moving forward! I urge you to connect with a coach to help set up that accountability to make sure that you stay motivated and focused. Making the right connections will help set up that ideal support system to keep you going no matter what!

When It Seems Your Life's Falling Apart, It's Coming Together

The Master was in a mellow mood and the disciples were inquisitive.

"Did he ever feel depressed," they asked.

"He did."

"Wasn't it also true he was in a continual state of happiness?" they persisted.

"It was."

"What was the secret?" they wanted to know.

Said the Master, "This: everything is as good or as bad as one's opinion makes it."

The meaning we attribute to events impacts us more than we realise. When it seems your life is falling apart, your outlook dictates your response.

The tale by Anthony De Mello underscores the message espoused by Shakespeare, "There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so."

For circumstances to unfold, they must first fall apart to rebuild a stronger foundation. When a person hits rock bottom, the only place to go is up. This can be enriching, since it reaffirms that the human spirit cannot be crushed, despite inhospitable conditions.

We must make room for the new in our lives, by letting go of that which no longer serves us. If your beliefs are outdated, release them instead of holding on.

While it may appear your life is falling apart, it's laying the framework for rebuilding exactly as it should.

"When everything falls apart and we feel uncertainty, disappointment, shock, embarrassment, what's left is a mind that is clear, unbiased, and fresh," states Pema Chodron.

Consider a renovated house. If you were to evaluate the overall design while being demolished, you might assume it isn't coming together as planned. Yet, if you consulted with the architects and interior designers, you see wonderful plans for the home's refurbishment that looks perfect once the project is complete.

So with your life's journey.

To presume life is falling apart based on your perception, is to focus on one part of the process.

Life is neither fair nor unfair, according to your assessment. There's an energy system permeating throughout life. What needs to take place will do so irrespective of your resistance.

To wish away an unpleasant experience only intensifies your response.

When you experience anguish, pick yourself up and continue on your journey.

Vulnerability is part of the human condition. For in the howling wasteland of despair, we unearth our resiliency once the storm has settled.

Psychotherapist and author David Richo affirms, "No matter how dark or destructive things become, we are aware of a healing energy ever afoot that indefatigably renews and rebuilds what falls apart. Something keeps putting it - and us - all back together. This is why it is all right to fall apart."

The universe is in your corner urging you to prevail, realising your current circumstances are transitional.

Take note of the messages that appear during the darkest hours. They are glimpses of the light heralding you towards Truth.

Your greatest breakthroughs will often arrive during moments of hopelessness. Whilst it doesn't appear that way, once the dust has settled you will see something greater emerge.

Humans are uncomfortable with change because it threatens their survival. This is natural and we should embrace this instead of escape the pain.

"So the next time you encounter fear, consider yourself lucky. This is where the courage comes in. Usually we think that brave people have no fear. The truth is that they are intimate with fear," reaffirms Pema Chodron.

So, we ask ourselves what we need to let go of to proceed down the new path.

To reason with your current state keeps you paralysed in your circumstances and slows the progress of where you're meant to be.

There's a purpose to life, irrespective of your resistance. Whilst it makes little sense in the midst of chaos if we suspend judgement, the complete picture will emerge.

A major breakdown can open doors to several breakthroughs if we're willing to lean into the discomfort.

Don't look for an end to your situation, experience what arises despite how emotionally charged it is. To drive away pain defers it, to remerge with greater intensity at a later period.

It was Winston Churchill who said, "If you're going through hell, keep going."

Nothing lasts for ever, even anguish recedes to give way to a new day once time has passed and our wounds have healed.

I enjoy this message from motivational speaker John C. Maxwell in his book, The Difference Maker: Making Your Attitude Your Greatest Asset, "I've found that there are really only two kinds of people in this world when it comes to dealing with discouragement: splatters and bouncers. When splatters hit rock bottom, they fall apart, and they stick to the bottom like glue. On the other hand, when bouncers hit bottom, they pull together and bounce back."

We are strange creatures. We thrive in ideal conditions and struggle through chaos.

Underneath the pain is the knowledge we are: resilient, adaptable and capable of surviving.

One need only look to the Holocaust survivors in Nazi Germany, to see what they endured during the war. Similarly, refugees fleeing their country for fear of persecution live in a constant state of chaos and survive to raise families. This is testament the human will is adaptable in most conditions.

What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.

The challenge when life falls apart is the hopelessness that consumes us. We might believe we are the masters of our fate, so when the rug is pulled out from under us, it threatens our stability.

However, this is a powerful revelation because when everything is taken away, life steps in to transport us to our next journey.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. reminds us "Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step."

So when it seems your life is falling apart, look to the future. For in the ruins of the past is a signpost pointing you to something wonderful.

Accept your current conditions and stop resisting the flow of life.

We can be hard on ourselves, believing we contributed to life falling apart. Whilst you're a co-creator in the experience, it is essential for your personal evolution and had to take place as it did.

It is with this knowledge we delight in the words of the Master, who calls us to be attentive that everything is as good or bad as one's opinion.

So we suspend believing our life is falling apart and trust it is coming together better than we imagined.
