Getting What You Want - Never Ever Give Up (By Anne O'Dwyer)

Woman in Red Coat Surrounded by Trees

My mother now in her 90's has been telling us more stories of her youth. It always amazes me the level of education achieved years ago as youngsters didn't stay at school until they were 18! Despite this my mother still has an excellent understanding in all areas of maths and English, she also has an excellent spelling and reading ability and still remembers some French learned in school.

I will share with you the tale she has told us many times, of when she was 14 she was officially able to leave school, she was the youngest of 4 so was keen to get out into the grown-up world and get a job and she also didn't like school she felt she had spent enough time there! Her mother wanted her to stay at school and improve her education but she persuaded her dad to let her leave.

Her Mother was annoyed by this and decided if she wanted to work she would have to work hard, and was to find a job immediately she left school. Not only this but she had to pay most of her wages to her mum 4 shillings out of a meagre 6 shillings, her weeks earnings! Her bus far was 2 pence, so sometimes she had to walk home six miles if she couldn't stretch her allowance any further. Her stockings cost nearly 12 pence and often had to be mended to last the week.

Her biggest disappointment, which she sadly remembers to this day, is the fact she had to wear her school coat whilst she saved every week for 30 months to replace it! I can't imagine youngsters doing that today they spend more a week on make-up!

She is determined to keep all her faculties and not be burdened with dementia so plays crib in the afternoons, does anagrams and only recently stopped doing crosswords as her eyesight is not too good. A recent hobby is to convert her food shopping list into French! (We had a laugh today to find an endearment translates into my little cabbage)" Brussel-sprouts will never be quite the same again.

To keep her body active she does exercises every morning, some housework and walks with a walking aid whenever someone is free to walk with her, often daily despite severe arthritis in her back and joints! She is a very determined lady. What has kept her alive so long - good genes and a determination to look after a chronically sick son who has been ill for 40 years. So together they manage and support each other.

Are we as persistent at getting what we want? Do we put in as much effort or persistence? So the moral of this story, never, ever give up!

It's those that persist in the face of adversity that achieve their goals, Do you know people who took years to build their business, we just view the results and think of them as successful without seeing the struggle and determination invested.

So for all those budding entrepreneurs there is an easier way, than struggling alone, find a competent coach in whatever you are learning and your learning curve with be smoother and quicker. If like me you aspire to a successful career online find a great coach in your chosen niche.

The Difference Between a Trait and a Habit

A "Habit" is a usual way of behaving. It is the starting point for all behaviors. All Traits, at conception, are habits. Habits are usually born out of necessity (we have to obtain a goal), or a desire (We wish to obtain a goal).

Most of the times, negative traits come as a result of necessity, not desire. Sometimes, however, using a negative trait when approaching a desire itself becomes a negative trait.

As we grow up, we encounter situations and circumstances that are new to us. Since we have no point of reference (information we gathered from past experience which helps us deal with these events), we are left with two basic choices.

Choice A- We seek advice.
We turn to those around us for guidance. Preferably someone who encountered a similar situation and handled it before. Our goal at this point is to try to use their point of reference in order to handle our situation. When we decide to follow that advice, if successful, their point of reference becomes ours. After a while, a habit has been created. A way in which to handle future similar situations.

The one thing you have to keep in mind when using this option is the following quote...

"Insanity, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
Albert Einstein

When this option is chosen, remember that you are, in essence, creating a habit that will, in time, become a trait. Make sure that your definition and the other person's definition of "success "is the same one. Your goal is to solve the situation. Not avoid it.

Choice B- We use Trial and Error method.
This method involves searching and using different ways in order to handle the situation. There is, however, correct way and an incorrect way of using this option. The correct way to remain goal oriented. In Transformational Support, this method is commonly referred to as the "Focus, Research and Action" method (FRA).

What this enables you to do is to remain encouraged, focused and determined until the situation is resolved. The goal is not only to obtain a useful point of reference but also to keep you from creating negative habits such as..
A- Covering up the issue
B-Pretending the issue will go away by itself
C-Running away from the issue
D-A combination of two or more of these.

These habits have a great potential of becoming negative habits (a usual way of behaving that results in a negative outcome). Shortly after that, they can become negative traits (A quality that separates a person from another person and usually has a negative outcome).

The specific type of habit we create (negative or Positive), will mature into a Negative or Positive Trait. Once this happens, and a trait is created, the trait has to be broken down to a habit first before replacing it with a better habit.

That being said, I must tell you that changing habits is faster and simpler than changing traits. However, most people seem to be under the impression that changing a trait is much more difficult than it actually is. Changing a habit or a trait is not easy but it is not that difficult either.

Of course, depending on the nature of the habit or the trait, the amount of time it takes to change it may vary. But not the amount of effort. In other words, what changes is your consistency (the amount of time you stay dedicate to changing a trait or habit), not how hard you work at it.

All traits are Habits at birth. Learning how to change them depends on how much we know about them.

Be Determined! (By Patrice White)

Hi there,

Many times in my life have called for me to be determined.

Can you think of a time or situation when you had to be determined in your own life?

I'd love to hear your answers to this in the comment section.

For myself I think it seemed like I was born determined, I say that because I was born 2 months premature, breech and only weighed 3 pounds 9 ounces 28 years ago, I also had a heart defect (a whole in it) and was jaundiced, and yet even as that small underweight baby DETERMINATION was the driving force that has enabled me to be here today writing to you about it and sharing my experience.

Other observed examples of determination is for example a runner on the track who injures themselves mid race, yet still continues to finish the race despite he or she's injury, through the pain and struggle and all. (Please search on YouTube for the iconic and inspirational video of the athlete "Derek Redmond") who with the help and support of his father and a cheering crowd, that has to be one of the most beautiful videos and where determination was embodied.

Another question I'd like to ask is each day how do YOU think you can apply Determination to whatever it is YOU are going through?

Many have found (including myself in much recent times)that when we make a conscious effort and proactively insert determination to a situation as dire as it may seem, we start to notice a shift in the dynamics of energies and on our grasp of control and power we can feel in the midst of whatever it is that called us to action and pick up the receiver of determination.

All of us aspire to be to be "HAPPY" happiness and "NIRVANA" are this chase all the time, in order to get to these destination we must have the inner resolve to be DETERMINED first. This road of determination is often bypassed and diverted En route, we forget sometimes that this actually and important&vital path we must take first. Why? & How?

Because...

(1) When we decide we want to be HAPPY, do something that seems undoable etc, we have to have a resolve that we won't allow obstacles, negative thinking and energies our own or other's stop us from the decision we have made..

(2) We also need to remain focused, because our focus sometimes in our busy lives can be taken off our goals that we set, we can get side-tracked with all the distractions that life can bring and throw at us, again DETERMINATION should be the key ingredient that helps get us back on track.

So, with all that said, can we agree that when we are determined this is something positive for us, that if applied DAILY can add to life rather than take it away? And help us to beat the odds?

I'd like to close this article with an affirmation that has helped me more and more recently, and I think that will help you. Please say it with me (Can be said as many times in your day to yourself or out loud)

"Today I will hold the intention to be determined, I know that all that I want to achieve is within my power to do so, and at the end of this day, I will be proud of all that I have done."

Be Motivational, Not Manipulative!

Set your mind on the right things. Let your thought be progressive not aggressive. When your thought is moving forward and not backwards, you are motivating yourself and those around you. For it means, you will speak the right words and do the right things. But when your thought is aggressive and move about in a circle, you become manipulative, hurting both yourself and others. Truly out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.

The following thought will help you steer the rudder of your ship to the right direction:

1. Don`t Allow Yourself to Be Distracted: You owe yourself the duty of not being distracted from the dreams or goals you have for your life. Those dreams came to you from above, if they are good and beneficial to mankind, then they were inspired by God. God of course can`t be against what He inspired so who then can be against you if not yourself. You are responsible for whatever happens to you, don`t let anything or anyone distract you from who you were meant to be.

2. Always Push Yourself and Be Determined: That you failed yesterday is not enough reason to throw in the towel, stand up, dust yourself, chin up, chest out and move on. The world revolves around those who are determined and who do not give up. Life itself appears intimidating sometimes, but do not let that scare you, always nudge yourself with good words and a charming smile. These will strengthen your resolve to be on top always.

3. Set Realizable Goals: Don`t dabble into things, things so not just happen; they are made to happen. Have specific goals with times allotted to them for if you do not have a destination, everywhere will look like where you want to be. Do not let the goals you set for yourself overwhelm you. Look those goals in the eyes and conquer them for you have everything it takes to overcome life.

4. Don`t Accept Deviations: Don`t answer names you haven`t been divinely given. You have been named and tagged with names like excellent, brave, the best, a success etc. Don`t answer names you were called before you discovered who you are. Don`t agree to the leadings of those detractors, always remember who you are.

5. Be Passionate About Your Goals: Don`t be careless about your set goals. Don`t procrastinate, those goals should propel you to move forward. Breathe them, think them, live them and have them realized. Anything that don`t have your passion won`t attract your compassion and commitment. This is why the goals you set should be reliable for when they are cumbersome, you will lose interest.

People and materials you need to be motivational are all within you, press the right keys and they will appear, and truly life will become beautiful for you. Be progressive and not aggressive.
