Sacred Body Oracle: Energy Tributaries

READING: Nourishment and communication move through your many body systems. Like tributaries off a primary river, these channels carry vital energy and life forces to and from your spinal column into your brain, organs and limbs. Release stagnancy; purify and nourish your body, your emotions, and clarify your spiritual experience with simple focused breathing.

You can practice gentle breathing for many purposes and benefits: relaxation, health, self-awareness, and even deep meditation. Your breath is an expression of your life force. You can purposely move this beautiful biological, yet subtle energy with conscious and connected breathing.

PRACTICE: Find a comfortable position. You may lie on your back in an open posture, or sit upright in a chair with your feet on the floor. Relax and close your eyes and begin to breathe naturally and gently, following your breath into your body. Where does it go? What part of your body feels the energy as it moves in and out? Breathe for a while and just notice.

Be kind to your body, always breathe slowly and gently--no force.

Now try breathing into your lower belly. Place your hands on your belly, feeling it rise and fall, expanding as you inhale and relaxing as you exhale. Breathe like this for a while, becoming aware of how you feel as your lower belly receives the energy. Relax your neck and shoulders, your forehead and your eyes. Relax your chest; feel your breath and your belly.

Next, breathe gently into your chest. Feel your chest rise and fall with the breath. How do you feel as your breath moves through your chest? Fill your whole ribcage as the breath expands into your upper back and the sides of your ribs. Breathe deeply into your chest several times. How do you feel?

Now try inhaling into your chest and belly simultaneously, expanding your whole torso as you breathe in and out. Breathe out and down into your arms and legs. Imagine you are releasing old, stagnant energies through your fingertips and toes.

Breathe out and down your spine toward your tailbone; breathe in and up toward your head. Feel the river of breath in your spinal column. Feel its energy moving out from your spine through the many energy tributaries.Feel the energy of your breath moving like soft and quiet streams through every cell of your body. Inhale and exhale softly for a bit and just notice.

DAILY OBSERVATION: Be aware of your breath as you move through your day. Pay attention to where it goes as you inhale; how relaxed you feel as you exhale. Bring your attention back to yourself, stopping now and then to simply and slowly breathe--in and out--feeling your body.

How to Control Anger in Under One Minute

Man Wearing Black Cap With Eyes Closed Under Cloudy Sky

"The truth will set you free but first it will piss you off" ~ Gloria Steinem

It's a Wal-Mart Christmas war zone. Grandma is searching for a parking spot while humming Christmas carols to the radio. Noticing one near the entrance she signals and patiently waits for the Honda to load up their colourful shopping bags. As the Honda begins to pull out some jerk swoops in like Robin Hood and steals her spot.

Grandma suddenly morphs from a sweet, little old lady into an enraged purse throwing incredible hulk. There are some situations that cause even the calmest, nicest people to become angry, frustrated and furious; whatever you call it, we all know the feeling.

What is anger? Anger is an emotion, emotions are created through your thoughts; and your thoughts are a result of your interpretation of a situation or person. Through your lens of experience and mental conditioning you draw conclusions: good or bad, right or wrong, fair or unfair, deserved and undeserved.

Regardless of the scenario anger arises when your interpretation of a situation or person is unpleasant. Your mind gets rattled and although you may not burst into an enraged green giant, anger still isn't pretty, typical physical signs: Holding your breath with red faces, shaking clenched fists and racing hearts.

In Buddhism there are three poisonous states of mind, anger is one of them. If you check - anger is always in defence of our ego. A situation or person is getting in the way of what you want for the 'self'. For example: Dark rain clouds appear on your golf day; damn weather never co-operates. Your husband forgot your anniversary; WOW, what a jerk!

The emotion of anger isn't the dangerous part, but what happens next is: The stage of retaliation. During this phase the sole intent is to harm the object of your displeasure. Try to remember a time when you experienced a heated fight with a loved one, when you stopped foaming at the mouth and the fog of anger lifted you may have wondered what possessed you to behave in such an evil manner. Like the hulk as much as you try to resist the urge to slam your opponent floor to ceiling, anger can make you feel like you're at the mercy of an unpredictable and unstoppable powerful emotion.

You might catch yourself saying, I wasn't in my right mind. The secret is that we don't have to be at its mercy any longer.

The truth is: Anger is not caused by outer circumstances, people or things. Anger is a state of mind and therefore only you can make yourself angry. You have the power to control your state of mind.

I know what you're thinking; this is absurd, of course there are situations that warrant anger; the boys behind you in the movie theatre are talking loudly and kicking your seat. I know this makes me angry, how can they be so rude?

So the question is not do we ever get angry, because we all do, even the most peaceful Zen Masters, but the real question is: How can we control our anger? My Buddhist teacher has encouraged three simple steps to controlling the onset of anger.

HOW TO CONTROL ANGER IN UNDER 1 MINUTE:

1. Recognize your emotions

When you find yourself in a testing situation; tell yourself, even say it out loud, my mind is experiencing unpleasantness. This will create an awareness of the emotion. This awareness will then give you the separation to gain control and reinforce that this state of mind is temporary, like everything else it too shall pass. Just by simple acknowledgement you will take its power away.

When someone cuts me off in traffic, you will find me in my car saying, 'my mind is experiencing unpleasantness', and its amazing how the anger floats away with this one simple phrase.

2. Ask yourself - Can I solve the problem?

If you can not solve the problem, what is the point of getting angry? I ask this question all the time. If I'm in a hurry in a slow grocery store line up, I ask myself, "Can I fix this problem?" if the answer is no, getting upset isn't going to change the outcome. Becoming mentally agitated is only going to cause suffering to myself, the grocery store line isn't going to move any faster. This mental game works wonders.

3. Breathe.

When you experience anger, take 10 deep breaths. It's impossible for anger to escalate when you are breathing deeply. I use all sorts of opportunities to practice this form of meditation; using the example of the grocery store line up again, once I realize that I can't solve my problem, I enter a stage of acceptance. Instead of getting angry I use the extra time to mentally focus, breathe and experience clarity. Every moment is an opportunity for spiritual advancement.

That's it! 3 easy, quick steps to prevent anger from escalating in less than one minute.

The emotion of anger can run much deeper than simple day-to-day annoyances such as traffic or the weather. We most definitely have situations such as social injustices, school shooters, disease and death where controlling our anger is going to be a lengthy process full of psychological counselling on mindfulness, meditation and reflection.

These three simple techniques listed above have a place in our everyday life for controlling anger outbursts and they can most definitely help to begin the mindful awareness of deeper anger issues however being fascinated by the emotion of anger in an upcoming article I plan to take a deeper look into the tricky anger. Should you feel angry at the murderer of a loved one? Should you feel angry is someone harms your child? How should you handle these types of anger?

In our modern world we have a lot of research that says that righteous anger can be a healthy release but Buddhism teaches that there are no good examples of anger. It is a destructive emotion that only brings you confusion and misery rather than peace. The mind of anger is a dangerous, destructive mind

"The ghosts of the past which follow us into the present also belong to the present moment, to observe them deeply, recognize their nature and transform them, is to transform the past." ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

As Buddha would say there is no justified anger there is only anger. Do you agree with this statement? Or do you feel some anger is healthy and even justified?

"Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned. "~ Buddha

This Simple Technique Can Reduce Your Pressure Immediately

grayscale photography of woman

What do you do when you're under pressure? How can you be at your best when it matters most? If only there were something that could reduce that pressure-immediately.

Well, I've got good news for you. There is something that can immediately reduce your pressure, and it's not tequila. First of all, tequila can be expensive. And second, tequila is not always around. The technique I'm going to tell you about is absolutely free, and it's something that is always available to you, no matter where you are.

I call it box breathing.

I first learned this technique years ago, when I began speaking professionally. Getting on stage to deliver the opening or closing keynote to an audience of hundreds-sometimes thousands-is a high-pressure moment. Your heart is pounding with anticipation, and you definitely want to be at your best. That's the time for box breathing.

Here's how it works:

  1. Breathe in deeply through your nose, slowly counting to four.
  2. Hold that breath for another slow count of four.
  3. Breathe out through your mouth for, you guessed it, a slow count of four.
  4. Hold the empty breath for a slow count of four.
  5. Repeat the above steps.

I call it "box breathing" because the steps are like the side of a box: 4-4-4-4.
So why does this work? Several reasons.

First, when you're under pressure, your breath tends to become quick and shallow. This is bad for two reasons:

  1. It increases the sense of panic.
  2. Shallow breathing means that your brain isn't getting all the oxygen it needs. And believe me, when you're in a high-pressure situation, you want your brain to have oxygen!

Box breathing is all about breathing slowly and deeply, which reduces the panic and makes your brain happy!
The second reason this technique works is that it forces you to focus on something other than the pressure situation. The very act of slowing down and concentrating on just breathing and counting shifts your energy from a place of anxiety to a place of calmness.

Finally, box breathing gives you a sense of control. One of the reasons that high-pressure situations are high-pressure is because the outcome is uncertain. You feel like you don't have complete control over what's going to happen. But by focusing on something you do have control over-your breathing-you reduce the uncertainty.

I was once talking about box breathing with a friend of mine who happens to be a retired police officer. He said, "Oh yeah, they taught us that on the force. We use it all the time. I still use it!"

Getting on stage to deliver a keynote is pressure. But it's nothing compared to the pressure a police officer feels when confronting an armed suspect! If box breathing can help that police officer, then I'm guessing it can help you too!

Get Out Of The Dark City Of Anger

woman wearing white cardigan sitting on bed

Before you begin this article, breathe deeply a few times and get rational. That is a start in the right direction. To get out of the dark city of anger, you must first relax, for anger is an aberration of the spirit. Every time I even start to get angry at certain situations, I remember this fact, and remember that what I am even starting to get angry about shall pass into the next moment where it is solved or it solves itself. Sure, that sounds a little scary to let go of anger even in extreme situations, but, ultimately that is the way to go. Shining light on all things reveals them fully, including the things to "get angry about".

I remember my Dad, Joe, had a temper, but he could get incredibly patient, insufferable, reasonable and logical when it came time to be. This factor in him scared my Mom at times when she was younger. Now she copies him in dealing with her current life. This factor to be patient, insufferable, reasonable and logical is something in my genes, sure, but I consciously developed it to the point where I just take care of problems instead of letting them make me actively angry or foolish.

Letting anger get the best of you is a dark city made out of houses and buildings of cards in that at the time the problem is happening, it seems serious. But after the problem happens, it is not serious, it may even seem comical. When I think about reality, it is a process of growth and not a fixed problem to "deal with" like the houses and buildings of cards that are here today and another thing the next.

So, look, anything can be dealt with, even death when the time comes. It can all be dealt with in an effective way, right down to curing that ultimate disease. I even venture to say this: Who knows, like a crab can grow a new claw, maybe we can become immortal through ultimate development of our minds in the same way the crab grows a new claw. Like I said, anything in life and existence can be dealt with effectively including death. Experiencing death in peace or living life more effectively and competently. So, think of this, anger suppressed or overt, causes heart attacks, strokes and untimely deaths. Happiness prolongs life and causes peace. It is up to you.

Three Ways To Improve Your Day Immediately

Stress in our daily routines can affect us all. It comes in many forms and it would be foolish to say that everyone experiences the same level of stress at the same time because we do not. However, from over 10 years of practicing stress reducing methods and exercises, I have found techniques I have used myself everyday to help make my day smooth or to help turn the tables when things are not going well.

Set Goals

Setting goals can be satisfying and help you to gain clarity and focus. I've been in situations where I've financially hit a brick wall. But you know what? I learned that you can do things even when funds are low. Injury, Illness, family hardship can take a toll, but if you can set goals, write them down and just focus on one task at a time, then it will help you gain focus and better outlook towards the future. Goals should get you excited.

10 Minute Breathing Sessions

Many things can happen in ten minutes. You can go to the grocery store, you can take a walk around the block, or make a phone call or two. Much can be done with this, so take time out to regain clarity. Take twenty minutes if you need, even an hour. Stretch, breath, walk, meditate.

Why do I recommend breathing exercises? Because it can help reset the mind and body and put you in a more balanced state.

Treat Yourself

Don't feel guilty treating yourself. You have to take care of number one before you can take care of two, three, and number fifty! Don't convince yourself that self care is selfish, because not giving your best is worse. You've workout all week, have a reward meal. Go see that movie, two hours away from the problem you've been hacking away to solve will help you move closer to a solution. Just getting a massage can make you feel great and put you in the right mindset. It has worked for me, and I remember the two voices in my head. One voice that was complaining and dragging me down, and another voice after treating myself that told me I should have done this sooner.

As you have read there are a combinations of strategies we can use to help us power through our day. Good days lead to good weeks which lead to good months and powerful years.

Remember to consult your mental healthcare professional if you feel like you're experiencing signs of depression or other mental conditions.

Anxiety and Panic Attacks: A Meditation to Get Into the Now Moment

The reason many people are feeling so out of sync during the shift is because they are being asked to let go of anything that no longer serves their soul's higher purpose. We are clearing the detrimental energy left behind from many former lifetimes. Walk-in souls also have to clear the residual energy of the natal soul that inhabited the body. This can manifest as anxiety or nervousness.

You can make it through this shift if you keep talking to yourself positively by communicating with your Higher Self. The body obeys the mind, but the body has obeyed for many years the signal contained in underlying fear-based beliefs. Changing this old mindset and giving the body time to make the adjustment to your new belief is like turning a huge ship around. It takes time. See your goal and stay your course. You will get there!

Whenever our physical body has a challenging situation, it is best to pull back and tend to it rather than continuing to push forward in helping others. Refresh, restore, heal, and then when you are able, you will have the energy, resources, and guidance needed to help others without harming yourself. One way to do this is by taking a few moments to breathe and listen to affirmations that support your new goal and remind you of where you want to be.

Next, is a meditation designed to help you focus on being fully present in the moment rather than living in the past or worrying about the future. It also helps bring peace and awareness of your multidimensional selves and connects your soul with your oversoul while you sleep.

As I end my day, I recount with gratitude all that has transpired. I have followed my inner guidance in everything that I have created. I am satisfied, and yet I yearn to continue to be a blessing and to be blessed in even greater ways.

As I enter this time of body rest tonight I bring with me all the experiences of this day and offer them for review as my soul in this Earth body connects with my soul group, spiritual council, and all my realities in multiple dimensions.

I recognize that I am here on this planet at this time with a divine mission to share love and teach others how to find peace within. I do this by setting an example of love, exuding gratitude, and having a peaceful existence.

I am at one with all my multidimensional selves. I am at one with my oversoul.

I am merging all my consciousness into one unified field of light so that my purpose of love, gratitude, and peace can more easily affect the aura of Mother Earth and influence the collective consciousness of humanity in a positive and beneficial manner.

In this now moment I am at peace. I am one with all that is. I am.

In this now moment my soul finds rest.

In this now moment I let go of my all preoccupation with understanding Earth life and allow my higher self to speak to my mind and join with me in this oneness of the now moment.

In this now moment I am free from worry about what I have or have not done. Setting aside all concerns, releasing all residual thoughts about my day, I simply listen and focus within. There, I find clarity to understand my purpose for being on Earth at this time.

In this now moment there exists no problems, no trouble; there is nothing to worry my mind, for all is love in this moment and love is all there really ever is.

In this now moment I know that whatever tomorrow brings will be pleasant. I will have all the energy and resources I need to fulfill my mission.

In this now moment I feel peaceful. I feel whole. I am peaceful. I am whole.

In this now moment from my heart center I radiate love, light, peace, joy, and harmony.

In this now moment everything is in perfect order.

In this now moment I rest assured that I am on a path to oneness and wholeness.

In this now moment I am one with the light. The light flows through me. The light is in me. The light is me.

In this now moment I am at perfect peace. I am calm.

In this now moment I am aware of my connection to the infinite source of all good.

In this now moment I recognize that I am an empowered being of light.

In this now moment I know that I am one with pure consciousness.

In this now moment I feel safe and protected. I feel assured, calm, and at ease.

In this now moment I accept all the good the universe has intended for me.

In this now moment I begin deep breathing

With each inhale, I bring peace to my thoughts. My thoughts produce emotional and physical responses; therefore, I am consistent in monitoring my thoughts and ensuring that they are loving, peaceful, calm, and empowering.

With this deep breath and in this now moment I send peace to every nerve in my body. I remember to do this whenever I feel fearful or anxious. I know I can easily calm myself using deep breathing.

By inhaling and exhaling with purpose I feel peaceful. I bring in the oxygen that fuels all the processes of my body and calms my entire nervous system.

Through deep breathing I realign my thoughts with higher empowered thoughts and I recognize myself as one with everything.

With this deep breath, I see peace within myself and all around me. This peace grows with each deep breath.

In this now moment and with this deep breath, I am aware that I am greater than all my fears.

With this deep breath, I consciously choose to change my fearful thoughts into positive uplifting thoughts. I am always safe.

As I rest in this now moment, I attune to source energy. I receive guidance. I know that I have everything I need.

In this now moment I bring forth my higher consciousness into this body and anchor this loving, beautiful higher vibration in the Earth plane.

The soul that has chosen this embodiment is connected to my oversoul and all my multidimensional selves and realities. I bring in that all-knowing energy that is love, light, and vibration from pure consciousness. The essence of the I AM presence.

In this unity that I have created in this now moment I effect positive healing and beneficial change in humanity and in the Earth plane.

From this now moment, this place of centeredness, I radiate joy and calmness at all times.

From this place of joyful being, I move forward in the energy of pure consciousness, blessing all by being one with ALL THAT IS.

I acknowledge and embrace the help that is available to me now.

I acknowledge and thank the spirit beings that have been called to assist with the next step on my path of ascension.

When I awake in the morning, this body is well rested.

I awake in the now moment. I carry forth and operate in the infinite presence from a place of heart-centered love.

I radiate joy and peace into the lives of everyone I encounter.

As I anchor the accelerated frequencies of my multidimensional counterparts in this Earth plane I am joyful. I am wellbeing. I am healing. I am love. I am light. I am pure. I am awakened. I am conscious of the higher guidance I am receiving. I am clear knowing. I am clear seeing.

In this now moment I AM

Only love is real. I am love. I am this now moment.

Message From the Universe: Sharpen Your Reflexes

"If you just look at all that already exists in your life, all that you already have: unlimited air to breathe, ample lighting to see, music to hear, books to read, stars to dream by, trees to gaze at, floors to dance on, friends to cavort with, enemies to befriend, strangers to meet, woods to walk through, beaches to comb, rocks to scale, rains to cleanse you, rivers to float you, animals to comfort you, you do have to admit, there's more of it than you could ever, ever, ever spend.

But try anyway.

Big shot,
The Universe"

Abundance is out there. More than you can ever imagine and for you to grab and enjoy. As the quantity of stars in the sky, you are eligible to take advantage of what is available to you at this moment in time. Abundance is not reserved solely to the riches, it is available to everyone who believe they deserve it. The word believe doesn't mean being entitled. You believe you worked hard and respect the process of how things should happen in your life. You do not expect life to give you the things you didn't work for. More you feel entitled for things to come into your life, and more NOTHING will ever arrive. So get rid of this feeling and start working for it. If it doesn't get to you immediately, be patient, believe that it will and it will get there. We all have doubts as to why great things could happen to us, and these doubts are what make some of these great things never happen. Do not confuse the Universe as to what you want, be clear in your demands and it will happen in due time.

From what happened 13.9 billion years ago to how we see our Universe expands exponentially in nano seconds, why shouldn't we think that the human mind has enough power to control our direct environment with the right thoughts that surfs into our mind. It is known that humans have around 60 000 thoughts crossing into their minds every single day, so it can be hard to track each every single one of these thoughts. Most importantly, what you need to focus on are the positive thoughts and keep them floating a bit longer in your conscious mind. Longer they stick around, more chances for the Universe to grab on and process your positive order. Look at it this way. Just imagine 5 parallel lines, and sharp object going back and forth on each of these lines at lightning speed, and your job is to catch these sharp object. Chances are, you will get cut. However, if these objects fly by in slow motion, you will be able to catch them without the possibility of injury. The analogy is that the object flying by are your thoughts, and the Universe needs to have the time to catch these thoughts as they fly by your conscious mind. If you allow your mind to allow positive thoughts to circulate in slow motion, the Universe will catch these thoughts more often and will render positive results. The opposite is also true. So, what is it going to be? Allow the Universe to sharpen its reflexes by bringing in ONLY positive thoughts flying by in slow motion, but if you do allow negative to cross your mind, make sure they go at lightning speed.

There are a great deal of things that can darken your day. Maybe storm clouds are covering up the sun or you simply learned that your son needs braces that will cost more than your last automobile. If you need fast relief, have a look at these fast and easy treats for your body and mind.

Quick Ways to Brighten up Your Mind

3. Volunteer in your neighborhood. Support a deserving cause while you take your mind off your problems. Pull weeds for elderly neighbors or do fundraising work for a local charity.

4. Invest in others. Studies show that money can purchase joy when you invest it in others. Surprise your mom with a heated mattress pad to help her sleep. Or, go to your local fast food restaurant and buy some meals for any of the homeless in your area. Trust me, that alone will brighten your day fast!

5. Head outside. Experiencing nature raises our spirits. Have a nice picnic lunch in the park.

6. Learn a new skill. Adding to your achievements offers lasting fulfillment. Sign up for an online course or ask your next-door neighbor to show you how they keep their yard so green.

3. Massage your feet. You may be cranky because your shoes have actually been pinching your feet. Kick them off and dip your toes into a tub of warm water. Dry off and roll a tennis ball around under your arches.

4. Try aromatherapy. Choose an invigorating fragrance like grapefruit or peppermint. If you're agitated, select relaxing lavender or sandalwood.

5. Move around. Exercise is a natural and advantageous stimulant. Accelerate your heart beat with some laps around the track or ten minutes on an inclined treadmill. You might even play a game of catch with your children.

6. Stretch out. Want a yoga pose that will perk you up? Sun salutations will do the job. To calm down, rest on your back and extend your legs straight up against a wall.

7. Rest. On the other hand, maybe you're dragging because you need more rest. Take a short nap and go to bed early so you'll be bright-eyed and fresh tomorrow.

Some days are gloomier than others, but you can be prepared for conflicts and difficulties. Utilize these pick-me-ups or develop your very own techniques that keep you smiling and content no matter what's going on around you.

Take the Time to Get Happy - At Least Once, or a Few Times a Day - The Benefits Can Eliminate Stress

*Happiness is a great way to get through the heart of your day- Everyday in one way or another- find a way to take a happiness break! Whether reading your I-pad or playing with your dog or cat, do something DAILY that makes you happy!!

Laughing is so good for the mind, the soul and kind to the brain- we should ALL strive to laugh a little more, than we currently do, everyday! Did you know that laughing can help minimize or eliminate your stress and cortisol levels? Look it up! I did and frankly, I was astounded by the results that I found... It changes the mind/body trajectory both physically and chemically in many immediate ways! It loosens tight muscles, helps you breathe easier and invites more reasons to laugh and get happy over and over again! To laugh a lot more and often opens the door for more reasons to be content, MAKE IT A DAILY EVENT...

Yeah, there is nothing more hearty to the soul than a good cry, or a hearty laugh. Take the time to have presence of mind; renew or refocus your rapid, heart-pounding adrenaline exhausting energy or trajectory by inviting impromptu opportunities to laugh and get happy!

Live to laugh, even if only in short spurts, otherwise things that you perceive may get construed as hurtful or offensive- a laugh breaks makes things hurt a lot less. Don't take yourself too seriously, at least not all day... Consciously decide to take control of your emotional or stressful events by taking the time to laugh, cry or to at least decompress, especially before making major decisions.

Laughing brings joy to the brain and flips the switch focus onto comedy, or something that you find whimsical,or silly at best. The good thing about laughing is that it has no ceiling and requires no testing, or measuring to be a successful accomplishment!

We are all doing a lot of things, simultaneously, and sometimes we get too invested in the pressure that it takes to complete everything. Whether or not,we are able to meet deadlines, timelines or another's expectations gets exhausting.

Find your solace, or your favorite book, magazine or form of diversion to make the conversion a simple feat. Laughing should be easy! Know what and who makes you laugh, seek their energy or presence. *** Welcoming jovial energy around you, allows you, to laugh, smile, grin or even release a giggle- Hey, it's ALL the Universe can ask of you! Giggle when appropriate, and as often as possible!

I have a few examples of ways to laugh... Try reading a corny joke book. It's so corny that you'll laugh anyway. Or, text your brother and send him a funny photo of him with long hair and a brightly-colored tie-dye shirt that he wore back in the 80's. Tell him that you have a great picture and you need his approval to post it on Facebook. Perhaps you can do the same to your sister too! Text her a picture of her lopsided cake that she baked for her boyfriend from 20 years ago; she thought it looked beautiful! You get the picture? DO something whimsical, and get yourself and others to chuckle, LOL (laugh out loud), or do anything that gets you to be happy for a few moments each day! You Tube has a lot of funny videos that you can peruse and pass along to family members or friends to share and to laugh along with you.

Happiness, joy, and laughing are all good for the soul and if not easily found, should be sought daily, even if done in small doses.

***I enjoy learning from you and from others offering me knowledge continuously!

The Way You Might Live If You Had Just ONE Day

Imagine it was your final day alive. Only you knew it. You knew also that where you were going was worth departing for. You also knew that feeling overwhelming sadness would be a waste of your final twenty-four hours. So what would you do?

Perhaps you would not be bothered about politics, fashion, television, the News. These would fade from your mind's sight, as you thought more about things at home.

Maybe you might not care so much about that degree or that PB or the career you tirelessly pander after. Or possibly you see the need to take time out to just breathe - as you breathe your last seventeen thousand breaths.

Think on this. We assume we'll be here for ages, even lamenting many aspects of our lives, even as we take for granted the many moments we're given to love those we love.

Life is enriched to an abundance of purpose when we comprehend The Day (to-day) which the Lord has made.

The cycle of the cosmos seems to endure as clockwork. But our lives, though they seem to mirror life, are not like that.

None of us knows what is coming, just as none of us can predict what is coming.

All we can do is live lives that exemplify the art of goodness in time. To take the breaths we do have, and make of that oxygen fuel for thoughts and actions that make a difference in the sphere of our influence. Nothing else matters.

May God truly bless you as you ponder more days as your last here on God's earth.

Is Life Really Defined By Uncertainty?

Life to me is defined by uncertainty. That's one reason I favor a cautious approach. Fear comes from uncertainty. There are always two sides to any coin. This forms a crucial element of doubt and uncertainty. It was once said- You cannot be certain about uncertainty. To define it any other way, would be quite difficult.

The only thing that's certain is uncertainty. Change creates new tensions and uncertainties in our lives. There are so many events over which we have no control. Can you let go of control? It demands a high level of spiritual fitness. You seek to find the highest level of your spiritual development. This is your enlightenment. As you grow and learn, new ascendancies offer greater rewards.

All you can do is exhale. Breathe deeply. Relentlessly ride on through the cycles of your life. Look for the interconnectivity in all things. You are a part of the network. We are not programmed to embrace uncertainty and fear. It goes against our nature. It triggers our fight or flight instincts. Carefully examine the situation. Put a light into the dark places. In the end, it is all quite simple. You will find your worries are baseless or understandable. All it takes is time and clarity.

People vary in their desire to minimize uncertainty. Those who react by a worrying focus on potential threats and risks. When our bodily reaction is a strong one, we tend to recognize and label it as anxiety, but when it's more subtle, we often fail to see it despite its effect.

We know this from psychological research in thinking styles and perfectionism. Decide whether an issue is important. If it's causing anxiety, do a short meditation. Recognise thought errors that try to pull you into worry. Once we recognize this human tendency, we can learn to challenge or even ignore our worries.

Allow yourself to have negative feelings; they are normal after all. Sitting with uncertainty requires patience. Allow yourself to reflect on what this means to you. Uncertainty is a part of life and it can't be avoided.

The only constant in life is that it will involve change, and try as you may control the future, sometimes all you can do is trust that whatever happens, you can adapt and make the best of it. Replace expectations with plans. When you form expectations, you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

Prepare for different possibilities. Become a feeling observer. Get confident about your coping and adapting skills. This isn't the same as "expect the worst." It's more about assuring yourself that you can handle any difficulty that might come.

This has actually shown to help people manage anxiety.

Finding the solution of the uncertainties in life is like thrashing around to try to get the mud to go away. All this does is stir up more mud. Seek out healthy stress reducers in order to make uncertainty sends us back into the fight of flight mode.

10 Tips to Help You Be Your Loved One's BEST Chance at Recovery

Silhouette of Couple on Seashore

How many times have you seen your loved one drunk or stoned or high and reacted in a way you later regretted and that they didn't even remember? How often do you wish you could help them, stop obsessing about their life and start living your own?

If you put these tips into play, you can leave that regret behind, get your own life back, and give your loved one valuable food for thought that could help set them on a new path.

Tip #1:

Make inner peace a top priority in your own life.

If your first reaction to this tip is an eye roll, think again. Energy impacts relationships. When your loved one behaves in a crazed, upset, depressed or otherwise imbalanced way, the natural response is upset on your part.

But often, your upset simply multiplies theirs and the impact is to motivate them to numb themselves even more. No, I'm not saying you are responsible for their usage. They are. But, you ARE responsible for your response.

By making inner peace a top priority in YOUR life, you will be better equipped to respond to their problems sanely, rationally, and in a way that helps them move toward a better way of life., PLUS, you will begin to see life through new, more peaceful eyes.

You are always contributing to making things better or worse in your own life and that of your loved ones. Build your own fortress of inner calm so that you can consciously and consistently act in ways with the potential to make things better..

Tip #2:

Observe their behaviors objectively and jot them down.

Being willing to see what is actually happening rather than focusing on your inner upset over what is happening. Your inner upset is not directly useful to your desire to help. The facts are! Jot them down. There will be time to share them. Just not yet.

Tip #3:

Use the power of your breath to calm yourself down when observing behaviors that trouble you.

Look within again. Are you upset? Is your blood pressure rising? Are you too upset to think clearly? Who wouldn't be! But again, if the goal is to be helpful, it is important to bring yourself back to calm. The 4-4-8 breath exercise works for many to return to peace.

Breathe in slowly, naturally, and deeply to the count of four. Then hold it in to the count of four. Then let it go, again, slowly and naturally, to the count of eight. If these numbers are the ones that work for you, experiment with others. The idea is to use your breath consciously so you can bring yourself back to inner peace.

This does not mean you don't have feelings to work through. We will save the details of that for a future article. But right now, breathe.

If that is not enough, stretch your arms and legs. Walk around the room or block quickly and powerfully, swinging your arms.

During upset, the blood often leaves the brain and goes to the feet. The breath stops and leaves you speechless and at a loss. the key is to return to rational thinking. You may even need to leave the room to bring yourself back to center. To be optimally useful to another person - and to yourself, calm is essential. There are many ways to use breath and body to increase peace within yourself, Use them!

Tip #4:

Observe your own words and behaviors.

How do you interact with your loved one? Do you cry to everyone else and keep a stiff upper lip with your struggling loved one, bailing them out of their problems and giving them whatever they want? Do you yell and scream at them before you cave into their demands? Do you tell them what you see, only to back off when they argue that you don't know what you are seeing? If any of these describe your behaviors, how's that been working for you? Be honest with yourself and consider a new path.

Tip #5:

Get out of denial and into awareness!

This is important because:

Denial is the linchpin of the addictive system.

Lying to yourself is no longer an option, especially if their drinking or using is out of control, uses your resources, involves your covering up for them and bailing them out of their problems.

Believing their "I've got everything under control" line is NOT helpful. Remember: they must first lie to themselves to keep using. Then, when you confront and they deny, they need you to believe them. That keeps denial in place and allows them to continue using in a smooth, unfettered way.

This leads us to Tip #6:

Stop believing their lies and start believing your own eyes and ears!

Stay aware of the facts of the situation. Believe the facts, not your troubled loved one's spin on the facts. You contribute to their addiction when you allow their lies to push what you have seen and heard into the back of your head. Keep track of the facts by continuing to jot them down.

Tip #7:

Look for their behavior patterns in your notes

While it is true that occasionally the eyes and ears can fool us, it is just as true that when a loved one is embroiled in a real struggle with substances or other addictive behaviors, a pattern will emerge. That is what you are looking for in your note taking.

Tip: #8:

Script and then share what you have seen and heard. in a loving conversation, known as a BALM (Be A Loving Mirror) conversation.

Once you know you have facts worth sharing (relevant to your loved one's challenges), put them into a conversational format as follows:

- start with love

- share the facts

- end with love

Practice delivering this with a tone that is calm, sincere, objective. Save the drama for another day. Not for this conversation.

Then, when you have delivered the love and the facts, either change the subject or walk away.

That is all. Nothing more.

Why?

Brief intervention is one of the most powerful evidence-based best practices when it comes to helping a struggling loved one consider choosing recovery.

You share it, without emotion, they get a chance to absorb the facts without the distraction of your drama. Powerful stuff.

Tip #9:

If necessary, set a boundary.

A boundary is something you put into place to improve your own life. It's not about controlling them, it's about choosing the life YOU choose to live.

Here are some things to consider:

If your loved one has expected you to bail them out of jail, wake them up for work, take them to their dealer, have the alcohol cabinet stocked, allow them to come in at 3 AM, make all kinds of noise forever and ever, etc., and you see these things as not how you choose to live anymore, you can set a boundary.

Often, boundaries involve you choosing to no longer enable!

Tip #10:

Stop Enabling!!!

Enabling is when you do anything that makes it easier for your loved one to get their substance or engage in their addictive behavior.

Stopping enabling is something that will be hard at first but it will do two things in the long run:

1. Give you greater freedom to not have your life wrapped around their using.

2. Give them fewer choices about how to get their substance or engage in their addictive behaviors.

While they may find other enablers, your no longer being one means you are NO LONGER CONTRIBUTING to their use.

Disengaging from enabling makes your life better in the long run AND helps you be their BEST chance at recovery.

In other words, it will definitely save YOUR life and may even contribute to saving theirs!

Being someone's BEST chance at recovery is about choosing to put yourself first while also being conscious of how you engage with the struggling person.

It's a path worth pursuing IF your goal is to help your loved one and get your life back.

Use the 90-Second Rule to Release Negative Thoughts and Feelings!

Image result for stressed out

Did you know that your body is designed to automatically clear stress and negative feelings? Recent research has shown that it takes your body only 90 seconds to clear the associated neuro-chemicals and neuro-pathways in your body and brain. Your body can reset that quickly, so you can feel refreshed and have a new perspective.

Since reading about that, I've seen it happen with my cat. She likes to attack the side of our living room couch with her claws and she really tears it up. If I yell "No, Cotton!" and spritz her with water, she runs away up the stairs-as if her life is in danger. Then, a minute or two later she'll come sauntering down the stairs as if nothing has happened.

Now, you might say, "That's a great theory and it might work with cats, but my stress and negative moods tend to last much longer than 90 seconds. Once they get triggered, they can change my whole day!"

Let's briefly explore what's happening with us humans-and how it might be different from what a cat does. Then, maybe we can see what to do. If you would, take a moment to think back to one of those moments of stress and bad feeling and observe what happened then...

Perhaps, did you get caught up in mentally replaying and ruminating on an upsetting event? Did you find yourself rehashing what you said and did or what someone else said or did over and over again? Did that event repeat like a bad loop in your brain, torturing you with an escalating inner commentary?

"Why did I do that, I'm so stupid!" or "What was he thinking! I hate when he does that to me!"

As long as you repeat those words in your head, the same neuropathways will fire, the same neurochemicals will continue to release, and you'll continue to think negatively and feel badly.

So, what can you do-as a human?

Knowing the 90-second Rule, you could use it to your advantage. You could take 90 seconds-that's about all it takes, if you do this sincerely-and do three things to clear your mind and body.

1. Move

Here you're taking cues from my cat. She gets moving right away.

However, if you don't want to scamper up the stairs like a feline, just stand up and stretch. Bad moods tend to round our shoulders forward and hunker us over. So, change your posture. Stretch your arms overhead. Stretch side to side. Then, open your arms out wide and look up.

Now, you're probably already feeling a slight change. You could build on it by taking a walk. Get out of the space you are in, change the scenery, and move your body a bit more.

2. Breathe

Take several slow deep breaths, imagining that your whole body is filling up as you inhale and your whole body is emptying as you exhale. Consciously let go of the situation as you breathe out with a big sigh: "Haaahhhhh." You might do that a few times to make sure.

Now, you're feeling even a bit better. Your body is beginning to reset.

3. Entertain a new thought

Recognize the thoughts that were plaguing you. Notice how you were interpreting the situation. You can do this by observing the words in your head. Notice how those words made you feel.

See if you can do this without judging yourself, or your thoughts, as good or bad. Just recognize what you were thinking. Then, release it by acknowledging that it's just a thought, just one way of looking at things, just one possible neural pathway in your brain-it's not who you are! Since it's just a thought, you can choose to let it go.

Now, you have space to entertain a new thought. One amazing ability we have as humans is to be able to look at the same situation in a number of different ways!

If you take 90-seconds to do any one of the above--or all three-I think you'll be amazed at how your body takes over and clears away stress and bad feeling. Then, if you find it coming back again, you can simply repeat.

Enjoy your practice!

5 Memorization Techniques for Students

Memorizing techniques for students is the state of mind to remember what you studied the time you wanted to remember it. The opposite of this technique is when you cannot remember something (i.e.: an answer for a question), this is when you should know more about these 5 memorization techniques for students.

1. Relax: the first technique you should use to remember all what you studied during the exam is to relax your mind and body so that you can breathe in a normal way to help you access your entire mind so that you fetch what you want with the least effort, here are some points to help you relax:

a. Simulate circumstances: there are different circumstances to simulate, like simulating exams time, simulating teachers' questions, simulating lecture hall. By simulating exams time, for instance, you will feel less anxious during exams and more relaxed to be able to access your entire brain and fetch from it what you want to remember.

b. Use the same gadgets: most students get new gadgets (pens, rulers, protractors... Etc.) to solve exams with. Using the same gadgets you were using during your study time-even if your gadgets were old-can help you feel comfortable and relaxed so that you can remember better, also prepare yourself better by getting extra gadgets with you.

c. Imagine the worst case scenario: in this place the worst case is that you don't remember anything to solve a certain question. You should prepare to have other plans to solve your exam, like leaving a space for this question and return to it when you finish solving the rest of the exam. By preparing different options you are ready to memorize in the worst case scenario.

2. Link what you study with images: linking what you study with real images can help both your brain's sides function which can help you to memorize and retrieve what you want in a better way.

3. Link what you don't like with what you like: a rule of thumb when you are studying a part that you don't like is to link it with a thing you love so that you mix bitter with honey, the same way doctors produce medicine, to memorize what you don't like using a better way.

4. Use colors: colors link what you study with it, but you must have a meaning for each color like linking the green color with grass and anything related to gardens or linking yellow color with the sun and anything related to space. By doing this, you can memorize what you studied better.

5. Study from different sources: all subjects have different sources that you can increase your knowledge from. When you study from them, like knowing more about a subject from Wikipedia, or reading a reference at your library, you can memorize what you studied better.

Bonus tip:

By studying from one source while feeling bored of this source, like studying from the school book only, can make you feel bored and will decrease your concentration to what you are studying. By studying each hour a different subject, you will feel bored less which will help you memorize better.

6 Helpful Ways to Refresh an Overwhelming Day

It's always hard to be in a situation where you are burdened by many things and you can't accomplish anything. For this case, you have to restart the button, recover from being overwhelmed and return to your tasks. To help you refresh yourself, here's what you can do:

1. Give yourself a break to ease the stress

You have to remind yourself that there's a big world out there. It's important to get away from your troubles and physically set a distance from them. So, what about read a fascinating book that is totally different from what you're doing or find time to see a movie.

2. Stretch once in a while, get some exercise

Same concept matters here, but now with physical involvement of yourself. You may work out in the gym, take a long run or enjoy swimming. It's good to do this exercise in the middle of the day to separate the stressful morning from the rest of the day.

However, we can't just do this every day or getting into a gym for example is practically possible. Nevertheless, make sure that you move and stretch once in a while. Take some decision to walk in a city or when you are going home from work.

3. Breathe deeply

This step is much shorter and practical. Have time to take a full 120 seconds to inhale and exhale very deeply. Repeat it for 6 or 7 breaths per minute. After doing this, everything will be a little bit clearer and better.

4. Be thankful always

Believe me or not, you got many things to be thankful for. You are alive living in a good place or in a city or in a country. Your life is so comfortable with the use of modern devices that entertain you, inform you of many important and interesting things and other things brought by modern life and you can enjoy them for free. Most of all, you have people whom you love and people who love you, though you don't realize it yet. No matter how tough life is, but so are you. Just take some moment to reflect and rest.

5. Take time to pray or meditate

Well, you need a place to meditate to think and reflect on your life. Find a good place such as a church or a temple or any place to get some connection to a higher being and pray for a good life.

6. Call a friend

Do you have a friend from college or s childhood best friend that you haven't talked for a long time? Maybe it's a good time to get the chance to talk with someone who you are close with. Have a great conversation with someone who's not part of your present drama.
