Are You Happy In Your Career? (By KV Gautam)

Image result for career

The reality is that our success will depend a lot on the kind of field we choose. Many people keep working hard in a wrong profession and make no progress. It's important that you understand the importance of working in a right field to show your skill and achieve success. For example, in India all professions or careers are not well rewarding. Choose a career that has potential for growth and fulfillment.

You should not assume that I am suggesting that you don't follow your passion or interest and just go for a job everyone is going after. I am saying that you should choose a career which is both satisfying as well as meets your interest criteria.

Choose a career or profession that rewards you well. If all things are equal choose a career which is more rewarding than others. I don't mean to say that choose a career just due to its earning potential, but you should chose a field which rewards you handsomely, in terms of satisfaction and even money. The sad reality is that India is not a developed nation and several industries are not well developed. Many professions are pathetic in terms of satisfaction and remuneration. Avoid those careers. Otherwise you will repent later.

In the real world if you are exceptional then you can get satisfaction and money in any profession. If you are passionate about a career which is not rewarding then come up with a way to make it more fruitful. For example, if farming is indeed your passion then you can come up with ways to make it more profitable. You can use better tools and products to make it far more profitable. However, doing so will require hard work and passion.

If you get satisfaction out of your career then you are in a good job. Many times we get stuck doing a thankless job. If the job is not satisfying then you may have made a bad career choice. Move on. Find another job that may satisfy you.

A better career can also be judged by level of compensation. If your job pays you well then it is a good job. However, money cannot be the only motive of doing a job. If you are in a job just because of its earning potential then you will be bored very soon. To be able to hold on to a job you should be satisfied with your profession.

Some jobs are highly fulfilling. One of my friends, Raja Basu, was interested in a job in an NGO, as he was passionate about social causes. One fine day he got a job in a leading NGO. He was very happy as he could see how his activities were directly impacting lives of many people. Doing something for the disadvantaged sections of society can make you feel wonderful. For him, it was a great job and he was happy about it.

If you have found a job which gives you a similar kind of satisfaction then you are in the right job.

Many careers give you no chance to grow. If you are involved in a job which has no career growth opportunity then it would be a bad choice for you. Change that kind of job. The career growth is not only about an opportunity for better compensation. It's also about potential for learning new skill sets that may help you in the future.

A better career does not always mean a well paying job. It should be judged also on the base of your happiness level. If your job makes you feel happy then it's good for you. On the other hand, if you have to drag yourself to the office then it means you are stuck in a bad job.

Life Is Not a Competition

Life is not a competition, it never is, it never was, rather it's a beautiful journey. Whom we are competing with and what for? Is it ourselves we are trying to compete with or with other people? We compete when we come across same traits, and then we try to win, to be the best, but what for; to satisfy ourselves or to satisfy other people who want us to win? I tried to dig more by considering two scenarios, i.e., competition with ourselves and with other people.

Competition with ourselves: There is a difference between improvement and competition, but the line between them is so thin, that we often take improvement as competition. How can a same person have two similar traits? For example, if one is good at studies, how can he be good at studies "again"; he just improves his forte. Similarly, if one is good at any sport, lets say soccer, how can he compete himself in the same trait; he just works hard to enhance his skills, to satisfy himself or to satisfy his soul. (there are several other similar examples, try reasoning yourself). Therefore, we don't compete with ourselves, we just keep on upgrading our better version.

Compete with other people: Two different people can have a same trait or similar qualification or two or more people can excel the same thing. We, compete with the people having similar traits as ours, to win, to be the best. Has anyone ever heard someone saying that, he want to compete only to lose? We compete, only in an attempt to win, just to show that "I am better than you" and when "I" comes, our ego comes along with it. Sometimes, actually many a time, when we start to lose and in order to win, in order to satisfy and feed our ego, we start imitating other's USP or method and that's where, when we start to lose "our" originality. We forget that by losing our originality, we can win once or twice by chance/luck, but, we can never be a true winner and it's actually a loss. So, what's the point of having a competition if it ruins our originality, or if we cannot be true ourselves or a true winner. If our success or failure doesn't affect or bother us, then we are actually not competing with anyone, we are just practicing with other people to improve, to upgrade a better version and to satisfy ourselves. Anything more than satisfying ourselves or getting peace is worthless and temporary.

Don't try to win because someone wants you to win, as it will be for them and you will never find peace; win by being true self, for yourself without any competition as it will give you eternal peace. Do what you feel like, what makes you happy, what makes you peace with.

5 Top Tips To Be Better Organised in Business, Work and Life

Quite often we know what we want to achieve in life, but we do not know how to plan our lives to achieve it. Organisation and planning are vital if we want to get to where we want to go. They are also crucial to getting organised and ensuring our success.

Organisation is about maintaining the right balance in our lives. It is about being able to allocate the right amount of time and attention to a given task so that it is fully completed. In order to do this we must accept certain fundamentals: there are only 24 hours in a day; we can only accomplish so much in a day; tasks often take longer than we anticipate; whatever we focus on we tend to accomplish.

In order to get yourself organised try these tips:

Tackle issues constructively and rationally

One of the ways we may begin to move forward is to identify and acknowledge an issue openly, analyse the cause of it, plan a course of action to solve it and implement that action methodically. Even though this may seem obvious we don't always do what we say we are going to. It is always easier to do nothing and complain about the issue. This absolves us of any action or responsibility. So when you have an issue to face practise letting go of the fear and emotion approaching it constructively and rationally.

Develop a logical approach

Have a logical approach to the tasks you undertake. Ask yourself the question, "What's the most logical, effective and efficient way I can tackle this activity?" This gives you time to think through what you are doing, increasing the likelihood that your mind will be more focused and hence more organised in approach. In addition, allowing yourself ample time to complete your tasks allows you to relax.

This relaxed approach in turn encourages your right, creative brain to kick in, giving you even more innovative ideas as to how you can complete your task more effectively and be better organised. Finally, not rushing means you concentrate and finish the task more quickly. As a result you have more time to appreciate the task and completing it is less stressful.

Be aware of time management

Do not waste time. Recognise that time is precious and something to be appreciated not squandered. Plan your day, dividing it into sleep, work, household duties, leisure and relaxation slots. Allow an appropriate amount of time for each and avoid overrunning. This means if you are at work, develop the habit of leaving on time so that your allotted work time does not seep in to your home/relaxation time. If you're on holiday, resolve to make use of each day. Do not allow the hours to simply drift away as you'll get to the end of the day feeling you've achieved nothing.

Keep a diary

Use a diary to set your goals. Record where you are today in your diary and compare it to where you would like to be one, three and five years into the future. Set out a detailed plan of action of how you wish to get there, then put the plan into action. Note down in your diary quotes, situations, experiences that have had a positive effect on you. Re-read those entries as often as possible to keep you in a positive frame of mind.

Daily action

Commit yourself to taking daily action towards your organisational self improvement, regardless of what this may be. Decide to make organisational skills and self-development your main objectives in life and work towards them every day.

Relationship Qualities - What Are the Most Important Qualities Needed in a Relationship?

It is easy to set a standard for our ideal partner but, we can never tell how the quality of our relationship is going to be unless until we're already on the boat and have sailed far. We can, however, tell the qualities of a good relationship that each and every one of us must set as a goal to achieve.

1. Both share a common goal and set of principles

A common goal and principles is the most important foundation in a relationship to keep it strong and make it last. Having the same set of principles reduces, if not eliminates, the occurrence of unnecessary conflicts that could ruin the relationship; while working together towards one common goal strengthens it by constantly communicating and spending time with each other. It is like sharing the same mind in two separate bodies and relationships like this are almost always unbreakable.

2. There is constant respect and affection

In most relationships, respect and affection slowly diminish as time flies. That should not be. Respect and affection towards each other is supposed to grow as the relationship gets older. This is a very important ingredient in keeping the relationship healthy and harmonious. The loss of respect and affection can eventually lead to a disaster that will soon end the relationship.

3. Both accept each other's weaknesses and differences

There is no one person who is completely similar to another. There is always this one characteristic that makes each person unique. Similarly, there is no one person who acquires only the good qualities and none of the bad. Every person is created imperfectly so each could find another to fill in those imperfections, and together they can both be perfect. Unless we understand that, it will be hard for us to accept imperfections and easy to give up because of irremediable differences.

4. There is complete honesty and loyalty

A common source of conflict in every relationship is the absence of honesty and loyalty. Lying and cheating are almost always the culprit in marital wars, breakups, and divorces. It takes a strong sense of moral value and standard to stay honest and loyal to a relationship. While there is no guaranteed effective way in keeping honesty and loyalty in a relationship, it can be avoided by partnering with someone who completely knows your worth from the start.

5. Both help each other grow

The best quality of a relationship is something that helps both parties grow into better individuals. If all of the four qualities above are present in a relationship, this can certainly be the direct result. To grow for the better in a relationship is, perhaps, what we should all be looking for.

According to a recent study, a good relationship is the secret to a happy and healthy life. Our success, or failure, is based mainly on how good or bad our relationships are. People reach out to people in times of need and trouble just as we reach out to others in times of joy and triumph. The quality of our relationships starts within ourselves - our choice of values and habits. Thus, if we want good relationships, let us first have a good set of moral values and character.
