5 Top Tips To Get Creative

Training, education, facilitating, developing, teaching... whatever your preferred terminology they all have one thing in common, and that is that they all require a fair degree of creativity if they are going to be done well.

I don't know about you, but sometimes it feels like the hardest thing in the world to get creative! It requires us to give ourselves time, space to think and to let ideas evolve and develop. Day-to-day, there just doesn't seem to be time to do that, there is always so many other things demanding our attention that it becomes very easy to be task focused.

However, luckily being creative is much like a muscle. The more you do it, the easier and stronger it becomes. So, to help you get your creative hat back on, try one of these fab tricks:

1. Do a doodle - don't think about it too much. Just grab pen and a blank piece of paper and see what you draw for a few moments. Let your mind wander and see what ideas you come up with.

2. Get Moving - if you are struggling to think of how you can deliver a key learning point effectively, take a break. Get up and go for a brisk walk, get some fresh air, move your body. All of these things will give you a break from thinking about the problem and when you come back to it, you'll come back with the fresh pair of eyes.

3. Set yourself some limitations - what would you do if you couldn't use PowerPoint, or a particular piece of content has to be delivered in 20mins, or if you had to use a particular delivery method? Sometimes having a limitation can help us find a more creative solution.

4. Get your filing done - doing a mundane task like filing, which require little thought can help you see a problem from a different angle. If you are working on something that doesn't require much brain power, your mind is free to think about other things and explore other ideas - you might find you get an "Ah-ha!" moment.

5. Tip the Bucket - sometimes a good old brainstorm is just the trick to get your creative juices flowing. Just make sure you write down everything that comes to mind, don't dismiss any ideas in the storming process, just write them down! You never know where you will find an idea which with a little bit of polish can turn into a gem!

Life Is Too Short Not To Live Out Your Purpose

Do you dream of becoming a life coach and helping others to live a happier and more abundant life? Do you have a calling to help others live the life that God has designed for them to live? And are you ready to finally get moving in the direction of your purpose?

You only have one chance to live life to the fullest, so you have to get it right. That means you are not sitting on your dreams, that means you are not letting what other people say about you stop you or block you, and that you are not letting fear keep you from moving forward. Your life was given to you so that you can LIVE IT! And that doesn't mean that you just go to work, work 8 hours a day, get off, go home, eat, shower, go to sleep, wake up the next morning and do it all over again! You deserve to do something that makes you feel amazing, something that lights your fire, and something that makes you excited to wake up every morning. And if you have a desire to become a life coach you could live the life that you dream of living, and a life that is not only rewarding for you but a life that is also rewarding for others.

I began to realize years ago that life was passing me by pretty fast, and I had not began to even accomplish the things that I knew God had put in my heart to accomplish. Things were going okay for me, but I wasn't living my best life possible. I was living my life according to the box that I had allowed others to put me in, and that wasn't acceptable. Why do we even live our life according to the rules of others, when nobody has to live with the regret but us? That is so unfair to us. And we truly deserve more.

It is your time to fully step into your greatness. You don't have to settle for anything less than God's best for your life. And I believe that includes you living out your true purpose and destiny. You have so much inside of you that someone else needs. Never underestimate the power of your gifts, pain, struggle, successes, or story. My late mother used to say "Our words will out-live us." And that is so true. Because even after we are gone we can leave a legacy that continues to live way after we do. And some of the most powerful things we can leave behind are love, encouragement, and inspiration.

Don't Just Sit There - Get Moving!

Don't just sit there-get moving! Stand up and look around. Now take a step. You know, any action at all (even a small step) will start to motivate you. Once you take that first step you'll quickly want to take another and then another.

Is it tough? Yes. It has been said that action precedes motivation. If you sit around all day just waiting for an idea to come to you well then you're going to have a very long wait. Nobody is going to knock on your door to tell you to get up. You have to do that.

Start right now. You have a goal in mind. Take a step right now towards it. Make a phone call. Knock on a door. Pick up a book or publication that will give you more information on how to proceed.

Each day you hesitate is wasted. How would you feel if it were the end of your life and you had not acted on something that makes your heart sing? How would you feel then? Do you want to leave this earth with that dream still locked up inside you never having the chance to see the light of day?

Our time here is finite. Procrastination in itself becomes a bad habit that keeps you tied down. Don't let it get hold of you because it will make you a prisoner. Instead, recognize that it is not your friend and push it out of your way.

You have better things to do. You have a goal. You have a dream. Go and make it happen.

Time to Get Going

If you haven't been doing something you need to do, there comes a time when you just have to GET MOVING and do what you need to do.

Who has the time? I guess it depends who you talk to... but the professionals, stay-at-home parents, business people and university students I work with say it is almost impossible to properly carve out time for work, family, school, exercise, social time and treasured private time.

At the end of the day or week, there seems to be still so much left undone. People are under pressure to produce, deliver, win, sell, heal, fix and tweet!

The chronic sense of falling behind and being late, the rushing here and there, the missing sense of satisfaction and pride from having done something well, not to mention the endless interruptions and distractions, are leaving people tired, stressed and frustrated.

Being productive, accomplished, successful, competent and fulfilled comes at a high cost.

You probably want to do the thing you're supposed to do, but keep telling yourself:

  • I don't have time!
  • Its' hard!
  • I'm not sure!
  • What if it's not the right thing!
  • Maybe later!

Whether you are a procrastinator, a dawdler, or a foot dragger, you are wasting time. Big time!

If any of the situations outlined below sound familiar, it might be time to GET MOVING.

  1. Your current way of doing things (or not doing things) isn't working. Something has to change and you know it. If you were managing a company, you might look at indicators such as poor finances, lousy sales, low customer satisfaction, or negative survey responses and say, "this business is not doing well and needs to change."
  2. What indicators suggest you're not doing so well and need to change? If you're over-stressed, unhappy, unsatisfied, easily fatigued or plain ole grumpy then you know what's needed.
  3. You don't set out to achieve anything - so you don't get much done. Instead you seem to prefer worrying about how little you are accomplishing, or worrying about where to start. So just start small and take one step at a time, but get going.
  4. You don't put in the effort that's needed to get ahead. You aren't developing skills or deepening your knowledge about something of interest or importance. Instead you focus on the surface, without exploring deeper ideas. You wonder why you feel bored.
  5. You are disorganized, don't prioritize, and lack daily rituals that provide structure. You tend to focus on lesser tasks and projects, keeping yourself busy but essentially wasting time, rather than working on big tasks that make a difference.

Procrastination has a way of invading one's life, and damaging your personal ecosystem, much as Zebra mussels or Asian carp invade our local waterways and damage the established ecosystem.

Don't let procrastination, dawdling or foot-dragging take over.

Just get started and GET MOVING.
