Action - Putting Money Where Your Mouth Is

Action is the separator between promise, talk and fulfillment. We can all talk a good game, but the achievement is the actual fulfilled action. So I will start with the story of Henry Ford and the guy who worked in the garage stall near him. The guy who worked near Henry Ford was said to be a better mechanic than Henry Ford, and much smarter at fixing machines, so to speak. Indeed, it looked like he was going to get further in life than Henry Ford until the actions of Henry ford separated him from the "promise" of the other man to be more of a success. So, while Henry Ford was making billions, the other man still worked in the same garage in Detroit, Michigan, USA, doing the same thing "better" and "with more skill than" Henry Ford.

You see, what separates fantasy from reality is the actions we take. Without action, everything is a promise, a lot of talk and not any fulfillment.

When success becomes a reality, decisions are reached and actions are taken, not necessarily by the best person, but by the person willing to take the action genuinely.

To become a winner, we must not just know why to do it, but we must actually do it to the point of success. The action is to put our money where our mouth is, not to be "better than the other guy" on paper or in "an ideal world". We must take deliberate action now. We must be real in order to get what we want now. We must act on what we know now, or the opportunity is missed now. Some of the greatest losers quit at the moment they could have persisted and won. After all, what do you think happened to Peter Best and Stuart Sutcliffe of the Beatles anyway? Richard Starkey and George Harrison took their places. So, almost is never "the rub", making it is "the rub" that creates all success and fulfillment. The money is always on success, even when we think it is not, it is never on failure. Although, sometimes we make the bet against certain things, even the worst of us does not genuinely want to fail.

So, action and fulfillment is the separator between promise and talk. After all, how do you think Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr./Muhammad Ali crossed that line? He fully backed up courageously right down to not going into the military and losing some of the best years of his boxing career, and almost going to jail and becoming more of a legend for it. The real failure does not have integrity, the success, however temporary the failure always does.

This I Believe: Open Mindedness Is The Way, Closed Minded Thinking Is Not

In this life, there is more to all of this than meets the eyes. Thought, prayer, and actions are not an exception. Let me put it this way, if there was less to reality than meets the eyes, we would still be in trees grooming each others hair and eating raw meat, not, getting ever more and more interesting technologies.

The open mind is the way to go, everything else is just below the open mind just waiting to be made obsolete. What can be conceived and believed can be achieved, all we have to do is light the way beyond the closed mind. Sounds simple enough, until someone whispers or screams "impossible!"

Impossible is a word that says to everything around it "finished, I have found all of the limitations to this." I know that is not reality, because science fiction in yesteryear is coming real today in rational ways. For example, what is a Star Trek communicator device but a cell phone? Or this one: What are three dimensional material printers when they manufacture things? Anyhow, nothing is really or rationally impossible except if we declare it so too strongly. The possible is simply something to grow on to the next level with, not the limit.

I am a strong believer in the genuinely open mind that is open to infinite possibility, and realities beyond the normal. Normal now, when you really think about it, is obsolete later. Reality is fluid possibility then, is it not? It is not a fixed normality that does not change.

So, to "up the pace" of this article, I want to say that thought controls and attracts that upon which it is directed, all possibilities and "impossible" things included. What I mean by that is that even thoughts and ideas have a basis in reality if they can be conceived. I bet the Catholic Church secretly still does not like Galileo Galilei or Nicholas Copernicus too much either because of that reality of ideas, and genuine new realities proved by them through the centuries of evolving reality. But all normality now started as a "strangely new" idea then. That is also my point in this article. Better ideas are the ultimate affirmation of the open mind, staying put with the normal and known are the pet ideas of the closed mind. All we have to do is step beyond the boundaries and there we are in the new and untried, and sometimes better.

Why You Should Stop Deferring Your Happiness And Start Doing Things You Want

One of the biggest wrong assumptions that the vast majority of people on this planet make is that they aren't able to do the things they've always wanted now.

To clarify, the assumption that many of us make is that we don't yet have the means to live our dreams and that the only way to do so is to work harder.

Thus we put off doing the things we want to do and we end up working harder and harder until we feel so stressed out, so overwhelmed, so exhausted from our work life.

The truth is happiness exists in the domain of now.

It does NOT happen in the future or the past. It's in the present moment that you can turn on your happiness switch.

It's time to stop putting off your happiness and to embrace it.

Why?

Firstly, there's never a 'best time' to do the things you truly want.

One of the most common arguments people make for not travelling the world, starting their own business, pursuing their passions, nurturing a loving relationship or constructing their own home is that they don't feel it's a good or even best time to do so.

You know what?

The best time to do the thing you've always wanted was 10 years ago. The next best time is now.

Don't listen to your excuses that you are too broke, too many commitments, too much chores to do, too young, too old, too early, too late etc. to do certain things.

Take a moment and think back to all the other things you've achieved so far.

Was it ever a good time?

If you're a parent, then was it a good time to have a baby?

Was it a good time to get married?

A good time to fall in love in high school?

A good time to invest in the property market?

A good time to reconnect with your old friends?

A good time to lose weight and workout?

A good time to have dinner with your 73-year-old parents?

A good time to be carefree and play with your kids?

When we MUST do something, we make things happen whatever it takes.

There's no such thing called a good time.

You live in the domain of now so if you really want to enjoy living your life fully, you only have one option and that is to do it anyway.

Often, you will find that doing the thing you've always wanted is easier than you think.

A lot of our dreams are easier to fulfill than you may expect.

For example, if you want to travel the world, you don't really need to spend a fortune or take a year off work. There are plenty of bloggers out there showing you how to experience the globe in a cost-effective way.

How about identifying places a little nearer that you can travel to and then using budget airlines to go there for long weekends?

How about a year of visiting the capital cities you can reach on short haul?

How about doing some online freelance work where you can work and travel at the same time?

That would be a fantastic year and doesn't need to massively disrupt your life!

Want a better home?

You don't need to spend millions - just empty out your property of things you don't need or redux your kitchen.

Or you can simply rent the place, stay there for a few months, and then move on to the next one.

It all comes down to your creativity, resourcefulness and researching skills. You'd be surprised that a small tweak can make a huge difference!

Find Out Why You Are So Afraid Of Making Mistakes Today

Why Are You So Afraid of Making a Mistake?

Growing up, every adult you encounter is there to tell you: "Don't Do this" and "Don't Do that".

We get smacked for doing what grown-ups feel is "wrong". Constantly striving to "be good" and win their approval. But somewhere along the line, we forget something very important. We can only learn from making mistakes... many, many mistakes.

Take learning piano for instance. How can you possibly learn to play a new piece, if you haven't played it dozens of times, with countless errors in the process? Some pieces may take 20 mistakes to get it right, others may take hundreds of wrong notes before absolute perfection.

You cannot learn anything new until you stop being afraid of getting it wrong.

You can't grow as a human being if you are not constantly learning and pushing yourself. How do you know what you are capable of, if you don't try anything at all? How do you know if you can cook, or paint, or write beautiful poetry if you never give it a go? You are going to make lots of meals that taste terrible... I know, I've done that myself. Many paintings will look awful until you get the exact look that you want.

Nothing in this life is achieved on the first go. Everything you admire has taken years of practice. Years of making mistakes and getting it wrong, before making it great. You don't need to have exceptional talent at something to be the best at it.

People that are exceptional at anything are no less ordinary or extraordinary than you and I.

The truth is that people who have become brilliant at anything have spent countless hours practicing and making many, many mistakes in order to learn how to do it perfectly. Tennis players have hit that tennis ball with their rackets, thousands of times in order to master this skill. Musicians have spent thousands of hours practicing their instrument over and over again so that they can achieve the beautiful pieces that you hear that sound flawless.

Dancers have practiced their steps hundreds of times and fallen over many times in order to provide a breathtaking performance. We tend to believe that these people are incredibly gifted and talented beyond our imaginations, but the truth is that they are no less talented or gifted than you. They have just put in the time and put in the effort and have never, ever given up. They are not afraid of mistakes and they understand that failing over and over again, is the only way to achieve success.

The people who are the best at what they do are not necessarily the most gifted. They are simply the ones that never quit, no matter what gets in their way. Everything you admire in them has always been inside of you if only you would stop being afraid of making mistakes.

So What Are You Waiting For? Go Learn Something NEW!

Happiness Is Easily Achieved If You Have Humility and Empathy for Humanity, Unprompted, of Course

Finding ways to be content is easily achieved, especially if you apply humility along with appreciation. In my observation, you gain more satisfaction through the accomplishment of small deeds. When compounded, small deeds, added to the overall scope to be reviewed, provides the most reason for gratitude and thankfulness.

When small deeds and feats get measured collectively, it's the small details that bring major success. For example: Your husband buys pizza for dinner-on his way home from work, unprompted, wow, that's really cool... That is an example of a small deed that rendered major success and appreciation, right ladies? Another example: The service that comes to your home and picks up your recycle items, and old furniture, actually came into your house and picked up the heavy couch and carried it out for you! That was really very kind and helpful! The last time that I checked, I could not carry out a couch by myself- my spouse was at work! That deed really, really made me happy and I was grateful all day!

Can you name a few deeds that you received, or that you did, which brought you a lot of joy or happiness? How about cooking dinner for your retired, next door neighbor? Or, helping a senior citizen pack their groceries into their car? That my friend will probably bring you more heartfelt joy and good karma than even you can expect! Your emotions are through the moon with joy and gratitude! You feel almost as much joy as if you had reaped the benefit from doing something helpful or joyful for another kind, good- natured soul. Just so you are aware and know- there is always a higher road to take to bring joy into the interactions you have with others, during the course of your day!

* It takes just a few minutes or even seconds to lend a helping hand to someone else besides family and friends. ~ Random acts of unprompted kindness is really showcasing your good nature, nobody else notices, but you know that you helped someone- THAT's humanity at its finest! Acting and conducting themselves in kindness, expecting NO reciprocal benefit is truly an unselfish gift! Have you even fathomed that your acts of kindness can have a domino-effect on the energy, and the people in your everyday life? It's true! Children watch what adults do and they tend to mimic or emulate most, if not all of your deeds. Doing kind deeds is a good example for children to see, they may be prompted to want to duplicate, or recreate, even when nobody else is around!~

Random acts of kindness can be done at the drop of a hat. Give someone at the grocery store line, holding one item, your place in line, especially if they are directly behind you... Wouldn't you want for someone else to do the same kind deed for you? When compounded, small deeds, added to the overall scope, of daily living, when reviewed, provides the most reason for gratitude and thankfulness.

All Is Already Yours, Now: Action

Keep in mind a 3-part system to help YOU REALIZE All is Already Yours, Now:

Part 1 INTENTION: Clarity about what it is you seek

Part 2 ACTION: Deliberate steps forward realize what you seek

Part 3 BEST LIFE: Embracing all that is ALREADY YOURS, NOW

When you clearly set your INTENTION you amplify your desired outcome.

In summary, using the F.A.S.T. technique you choose to Feel, Act, Speak and Think AS IF you've achieved your desired outcome. What we choose to focus on is exactly what we get more of. In other words, by telling the universe (and yourSELF) exactly what you want you WILL attract more of 'what you want' immediately in your life.

For example, if I feel resentment, continually check my bank balance, talk about the lack of my financial resources with friends and think this is never going to change - I will most likely create more resentment, see my bank balance dwindle, struggle with a lack of financial resources and block opportunities that may create wealth. If, however, I feel abundant and grateful, write a large check to myself and tape it to my mirror, tell friends about a vacation I am looking forward to and think about what charities I could serve, I will most likely create more feelings of abundance and gratitude, receive gifts from unexpected sources, be invited on a getaway and so on...

In either case, what we choose to focus on... will be CORRECT.

Sometimes even with the best INTENTIONS we can feel stuck and unsure of what our next steps should be. This is completely understandable because this uncertainty is always and in ALL WAYS due to fear. So before we move from INTENTION to ACTION it is important to highlight and address that the biggest barrier is often that we are fearful. We may or may not even be aware fear is blocking our success to our Best Life NOW. The reasons why we are so fearFULL and how to shift that is grist for another article.

Let's just suffice to say that we may be:

  • fearFULL to make a mistake
  • fearFULL to make ourselves a priority
  • fearFULL to fail
  • fearFULL to succeed
  • fearFULL of the unknown
  • fearFULL about what others may think
  • fearFULL that I am a phony, too young, too old, not deserving, not smart enough, not important enough and so on...

Which of these do you relate to? Acknowledge the fear and do it anyway!

Often we do not know which action to take. So let me assure you that when you choose to amplify your INTENTION (such as with F.A.S.T.) your intuition is heightened. You will have a finely tuned awareness, an ability to truly notice things in your life. You will attract opportunities to you. These opportunities may not look like your desired outcome but truly, they are your road map. They may be opportunities to network, to learn, to be of service, etc. Saying "YES" to these opportunities is your ACTION plan.

All you desire is already yours, right NOW.

Consider:

As your energy about your INTENTION amplifies so does your intuition and your opportunities.

Acknowledge your fears. Explore their origins. Challenge them.

Often what we seek is sent to us in the form of opportunities to take ACTION by simply... saying 'yes'.

For example, as stated before, if I feel abundant and grateful, write a large check to myself and tape it to my mirror, tell friends about a vacation I am looking forward to and think about what charities I could serve, I will most likely create more feelings of abundance and gratitude, receive gifts from unexpected sources, be invited on a getaway and so on--

I acknowledge I am fearFULL that I am too old to make any real changes in my life as this financial pattern has gone on too long. I've bought into a lot of misinformation about when my 'success expiration date' is and listened to naysayers and other fearful people. This does not have to be so. I am not only deserving but capable of huge financial windfalls___

I receive an email about taking an online course an introduction to Art Therapy. This field is intriguing to me. I follow-up with a fact-finding phone call to learn more about the course, the cost and the opportunities. *

When we get out of our comfort zone by setting our INTENTION, acknowledging our fear, and taking forward ACTION by saying "yes" to the opportunities that NOW present themselves we create our Best Life, NOW. I would love to hear what you notice and what opportunities you say "yes" to.

I remind you that your happiness does not need to wait another minute. It is yours to embrace today, in this very moment. It is already yours, right NOW. The fact that you are reading this article is no coincidence. You ARE ready and more importantly, deserving, NOW.

*These general examples are used to help illustrate the process, however, it can be successful for most transformational situations.

Which Is The Most Effective Form of Education? Part 2

teacher, learning, school, teaching, classroom, education, learn, tutor, homework, improvement, kids | Pikist

The guiding principle to empiricism is that nothing is to be achieved in the intellect unless it is first understood in sense. While this might appear as a philosophical connotation, it actually alludes to the fact that the precursor to attaining knowledge is to have love or interest in a topic, and even if one should prefer to stick to the philosophical aspect of empiricism then the word philosophy itself is a combination of philos and sofia, which means love for knowledge. What then does it mean to love a subject.

If a man claims to love a subject, then he needs to know about it more than the average man, so that to speak of it must leave the average man impressed. If he cannot impress the average man then he cannot claim to love it, for to love amounts to yearn to know more about it, which leads to its study, by which means his endeavour is self-justifiable. We can therefore say that to love something leads to having a deeper than average understanding of it, and if one knows not then he loves not. And this is not the kind of knowledge that is achieved on academic grounds, for academicians are expected to know, and knowledge based on professionalism cannot, unless in very minor cases, be assumed to amount to love for a subject. In this regard, it is the individual who learns personally, (which is the best form of education) who can be attested to have love for something, which doesn't mean, however, that he cannot go to class and acquire initial or more knowledge in the area. But even if he does so, the real difference will still lie in what he learns personally, for anything else is academics, which anyone can be taught.

Some of the greatest achievers in history such as Ernest Hemingway, Abraham Lincoln, Charles Dickens, Henry Ford, Charles Darwin and Steve Jobs among many others were either partly or not educated in their respective fields, but because they had the love for their subjects they have ended up becoming household names. Allow me in this case to mention two names specially: Frank Lloyd Wright, architect of Fallingwater, a house considered among the best buildings in American architecture and Gustave Eiffel, engineer behind The Eiffel Tower and who also contributed in designing The Statue of Liberty. These two people, despite their distinguished contribution to the world of design and engineering are actually self-taught. But even then, to perform in an area needs knowledge, and knowledge cannot be gained without study. All of the people that I have mentioned, despite lacking formal training, it is their pursuit of knowledge that really sets them apart. Mr. Jobs for instance, seeing his son's love for electronics gave him part of his bench to fix broken electronics and as he grew up and got more interested in computers, Steve ultimately dreamt of working at Hewlett-Packard, and when he finally got a job there he gave it his all, even though the actual job was fixing screws onto computers.

I conclude as I study another piece by a Japanese autodidact called Tadao Ando, who designed a House in Sri Lanka for Pierre Pringiers, the Belgian who supplies more than 40% of industrial tires worldwide, and as I look at Tadao's definition of 'airy architecture' the typical question keeps coming back: would Tadao be able to design like this if he went to school to study architecture?

The Six Basic Human Wants Necessary for Us to Tick

There are a number of technical questions that may never have run through your minds. They are questions that you may wrack your brains without coming to a strong conclusion. Have you ever thought why human beings are very different from each other? Can you be able to explain why a man will find sheer pleasure in murdering a stranger whereas another man sacrifices their own life for another person? Is it possible for you to be able to explain why we have figures such as Nelson Mandela and Charles Manson and what creates such personalities? There must be a certain hidden force that's responsible for driving people's emotions, quality of life together with actions and ultimately their destinies.

Whereas each and every individual is unique in their own scope, all of us have a common functioning as far as our nervous systems are concerned. Together with this, Tony Robbins highlights and explains six fundamental needs which are common in every individual. All the behaviors we see are as a result of individuals trying to meet these six aforementioned needs.

The Six Human Needs

1. Certainty: this is an assurance one gets that they can avoid pain and end up gaining pleasure

2. Uncertainty/Variety: this can be termed as the need for something unknown such as anticipation for new stimuli

3. Significance: one's feeling of uniqueness, special, important and/or needed

4. Connection/Lover: it is a strong bond/feeling of union or rather closeness with an individual, an object or a subject.

5. Growth: this is an expansion to one's capacity, understanding or even capability

6. Contribution: this is the sense of focus, service or contribution to others' success or rather just supporting them.

Our Nervous Systems Encodes this Drive

There are unlimited reasons and means that lead people to meet the above mentioned needs. For instance, among the six human needs or necessities is that desire to be certain that one can avoid pain and end up gaining a much desired pleasure such as comfort. There is a group of persons that feels for them to attain this; they ought to control all those aspects revolving around their lives. On the other side, a different group believes that for them to obtain certainty there is a need for them to give up controlling their lives and subject their entire lives to faith.

Variety is credited for making us to feel alive thus engaged. Significance has much to play in our lives as well. Significance is that belief that your life has its meaning together with an importance attached to it. There are people who believe that for them to get this need, they will have to compete with others or going to the extreme of tearing and destroying those around them. A different class pursues this virtue through a well-connected web with their fellow humanity.

The drive for fulfilling something is the greatest force of life

Everyone needs to have a feeling of life full of meaning. This can only be fulfilled or rather achieved through living by a pattern that focuses on some two spiritual needs namely:

1. The need for continuous growth

2. The need for a meaningful contribution beyond ourselves

All these habits and behaviors that we view as dysfunctional do arise from individual's inability to meeting these needs in consistency. When all our struggles to get to the fulfillment point seem to have failed, we normally settle for comfort or rather a small-scale level of meeting our needs. We also tend to diversify into other things and aspects that support and empower us together with others. A clear comprehension of the six needs above together with the ones you are striving to meet at the moment can be a great guide to the development of new patterns that will be responsible for attainment of a lasting solution.

An Action Plan for Peak Performance

  • Amongst the six needs, which one of them do you cherish or rather value more than the others
  • What are the good as well as bad ways that you can pursue to meet these needs i.e. through your relationship, exercise, dining or working etc?
  • In what ways will you be able to increase your focus and struggle towards growth and contribution? Enumerate the new experiences as well as activities that you feel likely to join to attain fulfillment.

10 Things That Will Keep You From Giving Up

We have all been there. That moment when we have tried everything we know to do and still do not feel we have achieved what we set out to do. We have fought the fight and have come against the odds but still we have not reached the goal. The only thing we have left to do is the hardest of all... to quit.

For most success-minded people, the idea of quitting is against all they hold dear, however, that does not stop it from entering our thinking from time to time. I am not talking about those who at the first sign of difficulty through up their arms and just give up. The world is full of people who see quitting as their first option and follow that option often.

You are not a quitter. You see quitting as not an option at all. You believe and quote the words of the great coach, Vince Lombardi, who told us: "Winners never quit and quitters never win." Still, in the secret inner chambers of your heart, there are times when the idea of just giving up and moving on is very enticing.

So what do we need to do to keep the demon of defeat away from our door? What are the keys to staying strong and seeing our goals to completion, no matter how long that takes? I have listed 10 simple and basic things you can do to keep defeat at bay and to achieve the success you see in life.

First, I want to share with you a quote from Winston Churchill's famous 1941 speech to his former boy's school. Many of you have read or heard this quote hundreds of times, however, I want you to write it down and carry it with you. This is a great tool to encourage you and help you stand strong in times of doubt and discouragement. It is also the simple truth of success. This thinking took England to victory over some of the darkest days known to mankind, it can get you to your goal as well.

"Never give in--never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy." - Winston Churchill

1. Know What You Want
Would you head off for vacation and not have a destination in mind. I know that many people dream of just heading out and seeing where they may end up, however, you usually end up where you do not wish to be. Those who are successful know where they are going and why they are going there. In short, they know what they want from life. This knowledge is called having goals.

Radio and TV personality and success expert, Earl Nightingale (1921-1989) said, "People with goals succeed because they know where they're going." It is a fact that if you know what you want from life you are likely to achieve it. Those who do not know what they want are wondering aimlessly and never finding what they are looking for.

2. Clear Written Goals
Once you know what it is in life you desire, you need to write it down in clear detail. Those who think they will just remember it do not achieve their goals because they change every day. Your mind is always working. It is never stagnant, therefore it is always changing. Trying to remember a definite goal is almost impossible.

Think of it this way. You are going on that trip. You have a map and you know the city you are going to, however, each time you look at the map, the dot for the city changes its place on the map. Will you ever get to where you are going? Not likely. The same is true for your goals. By writing them down you create a map which you can look at and find it the same every time you need to use it.

3. Belief in Your Mission
Belief is a powerful thing. When we believe in what we are doing and see it as an important mission to achieve, we find the strength and courage needed to do what must be done. One of the ways that Winston Churchill encouraged the English people to fight on during those dark days of the war was to always remind them what they were fighting for. It was for England, their home and country. It was to stop the approaching evil and stand for all that was right, good and free.

Belief gives us the why to what we are doing. When you have a strong enough why, the how will always come. Too many give up because they first look for a "how" to succeed rather than a "why" to succeed. When we believe in what we are doing, we will always find a way to overcome any difficulty that comes our way. English philosopher, John Stuart Mill (1806-1873) said: "One person with a belief is equal to ninety-nine who have only interests."

4. Belief in Yourself
Along with believing in your mission, you must also believe in yourself. It is one thing to know what needs to be done, and another to believe that you can do it. I have always found strength in time of struggle by repeating to myself this fact: If God created me with a purpose to complete, then He has all intentions for me to complete it. If the Creator of the universe is behind you, how can you fail?

Do not get the belief in yourself confused with conceit. Believing that you can achieve your goals is not believing that you are better than others, only that you can do what you were created to do. Believing in yourself is where we find strength to go that bit farther down the road to achievement. Nineteenth century activist and writer, Lydia M. Child (1802-1880) put it this way, "Belief in oneself is one of the most important bricks in building any successful venture."

5. Passion
Passion is a fire that burns deep in the soul of the one who has a dream. Success-minded people know what their passion to achieve their dreams is the energy that keeps them going when everything seems to tell them to stop. It is that burning desire that fuels the achiever to try just one more thing, take one more step and never to give up.

Like all fires however, passion must be fed. This is where having that written goal comes in. Each time it is read it fuels the fires of your passion and helps you to move on. Know that this is not just a wish for success. Wishes are made of smoke and you cannot hold on to them. This is your dream. It is solid, it is real and it is yours.

6. Sense of Adventure
Real success-minded people know that every difficulty, every road block, every challenge is not something to avoid but a new adventure to be embraced. American author, William Feathers (1889-1981) said, "One way to get the most out of life is to look upon it as an adventure." Adventure gives us purpose. It makes the challenges of life exciting. It makes the journey to achievement fun.

The time when we want to give up and quit is the time we feel discouraged, tired and worn-out. When we develop a sense of adventure we start to see those times are something to overcome, not give into. We find the energy to press on and move toward the next great adventure life holds for us.

7. Helping Others
One of the most positive and successful people I have known in my lifetime has been the great author and speaker, Zig Ziglar. I do not believe that any person has inspired me more than Zig to keep going, even when I really, really, really did not want to. What was the key to Zig Ziglar's success and that he passed on to everyone who desires to achieve success? Simple: Help other people.

"You can have anything in life you want," Zig used to say, "as long as you help enough people get what they want." This is one of my favorite quotes of all time. That is because it is 100% true. I have written it down so I can read it often and never forget that success comes from helping others to succeed. By helping others to be their best, you in turn become your best. When it comes to helping others, there is no down side.

8. Purposeful Action
Here is a truth that I want you to write out and attach to your bathroom mirror so you see it every day. Learn it, believe it and never forget it for a moment. It is the foundation to all success in every area of your life. Without it you will never achieve your dreams and with it you will never fail. Ready? Here it is: NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT ACTION!

No matter what you want to achieve in life, nothing will be achieved without taking action. You can always do something that you did not do before. It does not matter what you know, who you know or when you know it. Knowledge by itself is incomplete. As the great motivator, Tony Robbins said, "You see, in life, lots of people know what to do, but few people actually do what they know. Knowing is not enough! You must take action."

9. Determination
The way to avoid giving up is to never stop. There is always one more thing you can try. There is always one more turn in the road. Remember the words of the great inventor, Thomas A. Edison (1847-1931) who said, "Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time." And Edison knew about trying and failing. Most men would have never moved beyond the many failures that Edison did. But then, we would not have most of the wonderful conveniences we have today without those who were determined to find the answers they sought.

Here is the key to the success of Edison and those many men and women like him who tried and failed over and over again. The key is they never see failure as failure. Just because something did not work does not mean it is a failure. You just discovered something you weren't looking for. As Edison said, "Just because something doesn't do what you planned it to do doesn't mean it's useless."

10. Success
Success is a two-edged sword. There is little in this world as satisfying as success. To know that your hard work and determination paid off and you have won the prize is a great feeling. It is encouraging and exhilarating. However, it can also be the first step to your biggest failure. Few have seen success to the degree that Microsoft founder Bill Gates has. Gates makes this observation about success: "Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can't lose."

Far too many people achieve success in an area of life and then quit. They think that their success will be enough or it will linger in their life. The truth is, success melts like ice cream in the hot sun. It is there and it is wonderful, but if you stop and hold it in your hand you will end up with only a messy hand. The best way to celebrate success of a goal is to immediately set a new goal. Once you have done that, go back to step one and start the adventure all over again.
