How to Change Your Life by Changing Your Thinking

"No pessimist ever discovered the secrets of the stars, or sailed to an uncharted land, or opened a new heaven to the human spirit." - Helen Keller

Depending on where you are living, you could be waking up to spring daffodils and birdsong or, you may be shoveling out from the latest snowfall. Sometimes it feels as though nothing is happening and that today is just a repeat of yesterday. But, whatever your circumstances, remember, this too shall pass. Change is just around the corner.

How can you make the most out of what is or isn't happening in your life at this time? You may not be able to change your circumstances but how could you change your attitude toward your circumstances? What if you were to flip whatever you're telling yourself about your circumstances and re-frame it so that it empowers you? For instance, try removing the words, should, could, can't or never from your self-talk. Replace these with words that build you up rather than tear you down.

We are all engaged in too much negative self-talk. Just look around and you will see it reflected back in the world. The more we focus and talk about everything that is wrong in the world, the more we collectively seed the thought pool of lack and limitation. It's this all or nothing thinking that keeps us stuck in this endless pattern.

Wouldn't it be more fun to feast on thoughts and words that accentuate the positive in our lives? We can all do this by paying attention to what we think and say. As thoughts come up in your mind, notice how you feel. You can tell by the way you feel if your thoughts are uplifting or taking you in a downward spiral of negativity.

Watch what you say. Your words contain powerful energy. Whatever you say out loud acts like a boomerang and comes straight back to you. The point is, you have the power to choose in each moment which path you want to travel through life on. You don't have to go it alone. Find others who are stepping off the beaten path to support you. You could start a book group or join a group with others who may be interested personal growth. You can start right now to plant new seeds of positive thoughts then water them daily with positive affirmations.

You can change your life. One thought at a time.

Self-Test: Are You on the Right Track? How Do You Know You Are Thinking the Right Thoughts?

You are what you think. Every time you have a thought, your brain and your gut make a chemical (called neuropeptide). This chemical is released into the blood stream and makes you feel a certain way. If you have a happy thought, you make happy chemicals (such as endorphins). These happy chemicals go into your blood and you feel good. If you have an angry thought, you make an angry chemical, which, once in the blood stream, makes you feel angry. So your brain and your gut are like a pharmacy dispensing drugs according to your thoughts. These drugs not only determine how you are feeling emotionally but also how your body performs physiologically.

Thus, it's been scientifically proven that your immune system is much stronger after you have watched a comedy, and weakens significantly after you have seen the news. Similarly, a body that displays the so called multi-personality disorder (i.e. a single body that hosts many personalities) can have cancer or not depending on which personality takes over.

You are what you think! Think right and your body will be right. Think wrong and your body will suffer.

So how do you know whether your thinking is on the right track? That's easy! Check with how you are feeling. If you are feeling happy, then your thinking is on the right track. If you feel stressed, depressed, tired, wired, jealous, angry and hard-done by, then there is something wrong with your thinking and you would be wise to change it, asap.

For instance, someone "insulted" you. You may be thinking: "No one has the right to do that. It is not fair. I have every right to be angry because they are wrong and I am right." Think again! Do you want to be right or do you want to be smart? Check with your body. How are you feeling? Are you feeling happy? Or are feeling like a victim, angry, pushed, defeated, and offended? If you are less than happy, no offense but your thinking is wrong. You can't send everyone else to a psychiatrist so you can feel better. You have to change your own thinking if you want to change how you are feeling. There is no other road to health and happiness.

To change your thinking, whenever you catch yourself and become aware of your own unhappiness, assume straight away that your thinking is wrong. Don't spend even one miserable second justifying yourself or rationalizing how you are right and someone else is not. Assume exactly the opposite - you must be thinking wrong (for if you weren't, you would be feeling great!). You are wrong because you took something personal when it actually is not. Nothing is personal. So don't make anything personal. De-personalize the comment, the situation or whatever it is you are triggered by. Strip off any meaning that you put into it. Nothing means anything. Meanings don't exist and they are not inherent to people, things, situations, etc. Your unpleasant situation does not mean anything at all. And even if it did mean something, it wouldn't mean what you think it means. So don't bother attaching any meaning to it. Don't take it personal. Let it go standing in gratitude, love and forgiveness. By doing this, you are not doing a favor to the person that "offended" you. You are doing a favor to yourself. Forgiving means putting yourself first and loving yourself. Because when you forgive, you stop drinking the poison and start living a healthy and happy life.

Three Tips to Help You Think More Positively

I know. It's hard sometimes. Trust me, I get it and I'm right there with ya sister! Thinking positively is not always easy. At first it becomes another task. Then once you get a process down pat, the crappy negative thoughts still seem to creep in. But here's the deal. We are part Ego and the negative will always be there. BUT there are ways to effectively handle them and move through a more "thoughtful" (pun intended) thought process. Because at the end of the day, it is our thoughts that are creating our reality and if we want to live a better life, we have to think better - we must change our minds consciously. Change your thinking and change your life. It's inevitable.

There are three specific mental exercises that I use when I need help thinking positively.

1. When a negative thought comes to mind I picture a huge metal slab moving through my mind pushing everything in its path out of my consciousness. From left to right, I can see the slab bulldozing the thoughts right out of my mind.

2. Another way is to shout at the thought mentally, "OUT!" Then see the thought flee away. This is Louise Hay's preferred method of changing thoughts from negative to positive. (Louise Hay is the founder of Hay House Publishing; an international leader in Spiritual and Personal Development literature.)

3. Lastly, as soon as I become aware of my negative thoughts I simply and consciously change my point of focus on to something else. I choose a positive thought and start thinking about it, leaving the negative story in the dust. Usually the new thought is the opposite or an improved made up version of what I was just thinking, or it's something completely different that I am in the process of manifesting.

TIP: Combine the last method (#3) with the first two methods.

Even when I am at my most balanced (mind, body, soul) those negative thoughts creep in. BUT I will say that they don't stick around as long. They come in my mind, are caught quickly, and are simply dismissed using one or more of these methods.

What do you do when those pesky negative thoughts creep in?

Do you have any mental tricks up your sleeve?

How often are you consciously catching yourself thinking negatively, and then switching your thoughts to something more positive?

I can't wait to hear what you do!

5 Ways To Change Your Bad Habits

Changing Your Habits

Our habits really shape who we are and in part determine how productive we are during the day. Habits are the reason we are able to accomplish tasks without thinking about them. However everyone has a bad habit or two that we probably know we need to stop before it causes more harm than it already has, so let's take a look at 5 Ways To Change Your bad Habits.

1. Recognize the Problem

In order to start changing our bad habits we first need to start recognizing which ones we have are bad. I would suggest you sit down in a quite place free from distractions and go over your past week. Think about all the things you did and I'm sure you'll quickly start to remember some recurring things you did that you may not be so proud of, better known as your bad habits. Write all these down on a sheet of paper so you're sure not to forget them. Now that we've recognized the problems let's work on correcting them.

2. Practice Your New Habit Everyday!!

A very common mistake many people make when going about tackling a bad habit is not working on fixing the problem everyday! Take not going to the gym for instance, you decide to go to the gym 3 times a week. Seems reasonable right? After all you're already struggling just to get there at all with your "super busy schedule".

The truth of the matter is time is almost never actually the problem, if you add up all the time-wasting you have any given day including watching TV, napping, procrastination, distraction or gaps between work then you would find you have more than enough time to hit the gym everyday for at least 30 minutes.

The reason you need to be practicing your new habit everyday instead of for example, 3 times a week is because you will become conditioned to your new habit much faster when you practice it everyday instead of taking breaks. This insures you're not allowing for your brain to reason its way back into old habits.

3. Have Someone Hold you Accountable

So this ones pretty simple all you have to do is tell someone about your intension to change your bad habits. You'll want this person to be a close friend or family member who will support you and check in on you very often to make sure you are staying on track.

A good way to make sure they will do this for you is to refer them to this post! Have them also review these ways to break their bad habits and you can both hold each other accountable.

PS post your new habit on your social media! are you really going to disappoint all of your friends and family? I think not.

4. Talk About Your New Habit in the Present Tense

Okay so you really want to kick this bad habit right? One of the best ways to change a bad habit is to change your thinking in your subconscious mind. To do this you'll want to continually remind yourself all day as often as possible of your goal to kick this bad habit.

Say the following line to yourself both out loud and in your head "I'm so happy and grateful now that (insert your goal)". Reaping this line and thinking about your goal all day will eventually work it into your subconscious mind which in turn will change your actions and your actions will become your desired results.

5. Don't be Too Hard on Yourself!

Changing habits can be hard especially when they're old and stubborn so don't beat yourself up too much. Remember this is a journey and it will take a little bit of time and effort so be patient. You'll do great just keep working towards your goals and kick those bad habits!

Message From the Universe: Life Isn't As Difficult As You May Think!

"Let's pretend, just for today, all day long, throughout our every thought and decision, that life is easy, that everyone means well, and that time is on our side. Okay? And let's pretend that we are loved beyond belief, that magic conspires on our behalf, and that nothing can ever hurt us without our consent. All right?

And if we like this game, we'll play tomorrow as well, and the next day, and the next, and pretty soon, it won't be a game at all, because life, for us, will become those things. Just as it's become what it is today.

You're getting warmer,
The Universe"

Keeping the positive thoughts coming in and drowning your mind is what you should strive for. There is no reason why we shouldn't focus on what is easier and more simple. Why do we need to allow negativity to come into our life and let it linger for too long? It takes more energy and effort to think negative than positive? Why exert all this energy for no reasons? I understand that life can take its toll and that circumstances may happen that aren't too favorable to you. It is a part of life and this is the things we need to learn to accept. However, these unforeseen circumstances happened because you allowed them to happen, and you allowed negative thinking to plague your mind. Nothing happens for no specific reasons, it is the effect of your thinking. There is one ultimate solution to that. Yes, you know what it is. If you want to change your outcome, you need to change your thinking. It may be hard at first, because of the years of negativity that YOU allowed into your mind that will be hard to remove. However, with hard work, self-apprenticeship, education and lots of meditation, you will learn to reboot your mind and re-install a better functioning operation system with NO malware.

It is important to keep this process going day in and day out. You might not see the changes happening overnight, but do not despair. Everything great will come when you create a new habit and allow only the positive to come into your life. Focus on what you want to create for yourself. Do that everyday, and never change your path, unless if needed. Keep a journal of when you see darkness coming into your life and fix it as soon as you can. Create happiness triggers for yourself when this happen. Always look forward to doing the things you love doing. Allow yourself to FAIL at times, as this is the ONLY way you will ever learn and appreciate the things you already have. Be grateful for a great life G-d gave you and keep on moving forward, no matter what happens. You can always look back and feel accomplished for everything you've done so far. No many got to where you are today!

Why Do We Need a New Way of Thinking?

Well actually we need 'a way of thinking', not a new one as we don't actually have one! We all think differently which is fine... But what's wrong is we think randomly. This randomness causes ourselves and others pain. Though because we have always lived this way, we don't notice it.

Thinking or more importantly, the way we think is crucial to our success in life. Our thinking is what distinguishes us from the crowd. Thinking is what makes us unique as an individual and ultimately our thinking determines our desired and actual success in life. 'Obviously' you might think, but that in itself is an accidental thought if it hasn't been evaluated consciously.

We think accidentally because we were not taught how to think!

We are taught to walk, talk, read, write, cook, brush our teeth, clean up our mess, use a computer, drive a car and even fly a plane. We are taught to acquire such skills, as to make them automatic and almost sub/un-conscious in their use.

Yet the most powerful tool we possess, accurate thinking, is left to occur by accident.

Simply put we were never taught how to think, just what to think. It is the lack of a thinking structure which causes all pain in life and in effect pain to oneself and then onto others too.

When you change your thinking into structured system and use and maintain it, then it becomes impossible to consciously cause pain to yourself and to others. Unconsciousness can still occur as we are all human and we slip into unconscious action by default. But by raising our level of thought (raising our consciousness) to a higher level then less, and less pain is created.

Einstein wrote; No problem can be solved with the same level of consciousness that created it. This is clearly sage advice, yet the entire world ignores it and 'tries to solve the biggest problems in the world from the same level of consciousness that created them... 'Whilst fooling themselves into believing that they have a higher level of consciousness than 'those' who created the problems.

So to solve the bigger problems we must first understand where it goes wrong, and correct it. Then all problems can either be solved easily or ignored and allowed to solve themselves.

We are taught to do virtually everything in life that is considered important enough to be worthy of an adults' time to teach a child. But we are not taught how to think, which is the most powerful tool we have for getting what we want to happen.

This understanding has been preached and taught by every great teacher throughout time and is already accepted as the way it should be done...

But why haven't we got a thinking system to apply the wisdom of hundreds of thousands of years of experience into our lives?

Quite simply it's been missed...

Or maybe no one could simplify the wisdom of our ancestors so that everyone could easily apply it...

So without a structured thinking system, when you think about it... Is it really a surprise that 99.999% of people fail to get what they want from life?

The greatest teachers throughout time were teaching from a perspective of already having structure to their thinking. So they taught what to think, to people who didn't know how to think.

Sure the people knew that what the masters were saying was right, but they were not able to put the wisdom of our ancestors into practice in their day-to-day lives...

It wasn't that they weren't intelligent! They were simply putting a German Training course (written in German) into the mind of a person who only spoke English... Which of course failed! As we all KNOW that to understand the German Training course, we must first learn to speak German!

Yet 99.999% of our world's population today is still trying to apply the German Training course without learning to speak German... And then they are wondering why it's not working!

The problem is... 99.999% of people don't have a simple easy structured way to think automatically the right way, instead of the wrong way.

Instead of structured thought we just think by accident and we achieve, or in the main do not achieve, because we are using 'accidental thinking' and 'not noticing' (not conscious of, not observing or studying) our poor (low quality) thinking as it occurs.

These 'poor' accidental thoughts lead us to our poor decisions, which in turn create outcomes which we didn't want, which in turn lead to a very messy life situation for the majority of people (at least 99.999% of people - so almost everyone, and at times everyone).

Then the life situation causes worry, stress, anxiety, depression, fears, overwhelm, and low self esteem, amongst a whole host of other 'mindset' ailments. And all because we are not taught to think correctly by thinking 'on purpose', because we have no structured thinking system.

It seemed obvious to me how to think, but then I was in the successful minority (One of the 0.001% of our society). I was one of the tiny few who failed societies hereditary programming!

There was no structured system how to change your thinking to those who succeeded to avoid the bad programming... It is just your environment and a roll of the dice...

As for the majority who were not successful... Quite simply everyone had missed the fact that we needed one in the same way that Thomas Edison recognised that we all needed light bulbs.

Change the Metaphors You Use and Change Your Life

Do we really use the gift of language as well as it could be used? I have been reading about our use of metaphors and how we adopt them and use them without thinking about their effect. How often have you thought "life is a battle when struggling with something, or perhaps somebody as "a pain in the neck". Try next time to find a more uplifting metaphor: how about "an opportunity".

Try changing your choice of metaphors in all areas of your life; how you think of, or speak of your children, your work colleagues, your other half or your partner etc. and see the effect it has on both your outlook and your response from others.

Sometimes it is as if we are half asleep, we say things without thinking of the consequences or the effect the words make. Words are a means of communicating make sure they are actually creating the intended message, not perhaps just your anger or frustration.

I read a story about a little boy whose friend had fallen from some apparatus and died. He was naturally distraught until his father suggested he was like a caterpillar in a cocoon, that would soon be a butterfly and soar into the sky.

Change your thinking and change your life. Make your life story as exciting as you like. Learn a language, take up painting, or writing; or start a business in your spare-time and earn some extra cash, I'm sure you will enjoy spending it! You are capable of so much more, make every hour count. Change your metaphors, learn to enjoy what you do, and enjoy your life. Life is an adventure where will your life take you?

I am building an online business, attempting to learn Spanish, getting fitter and hopefully losing a few pounds. What will your challenges be?

If you too would like an online business the easiest way to start is affiliate marketing with a coach, this makes it much simpler, products are provided in a range to excite your customers into making repeat orders; professionally written sales pages and marketing advice so that you can start to earn whilst you are still learning. Affiliate marketing is great fun and in the future your business can be grown to the size that suits you.

Change the metaphors you use daily and create a new adventure for yourself and your family.

The book I am reading is "Awaken the giant Within", by Anthony Robbins. If you want to learn more about metaphors, life planning, and achieving what you really want, you might like to read it too!

If You Want to Change Your Results, You Have to Change Your Thinking First

Ask yourself these 9 questions to trigger thought and action.

My team and I constantly ask ourselves, “How do we make the biggest impact on helping our clients get the results they want faster?” The powerful answer is for us to help change people’s limited thinking or help them adjust their standards or habits to support their goals. So we encourage clients to nurture thought-provoking relationships and opportunities, thus creating more thought-provoking results. Big returns come from thinking smart.
Here’s a simple assessment that will trigger thought and action. Rate yourself 1 to 10 on each question below (1 is low; 10 is high). Then take a few minutes to write down what actions you want to change in response to your answers.
1. How is my life working out?
2. How’s my daily attitude; how happy am I?
3. How are my relationships with my family, friends, co-workers, coaches and mentors?
4. How’s my health (weight, overall wellness, self-esteem, stress levels, etc.)?
5. How effectively am I feeding my mind? (How many books have I read in the last six months? What do I wish to become? Am I studying productively?)
6. How do I rate my lifestyle (my satisfaction with activities such as travel, exploring, attending fun events, etc.)?
7. Where is my income in comparison to where I want it to be?
8. How often do I give back to others?
9. How is my goal-setting? How satisfied am I with how my goals have manifested in my life?

How Your Job Satisfaction Affects You

Areas of Your Life and What You Can Do About It.

Your job satisfaction could be inhibiting your attempts to improve your work-life balance, self esteem, relationships and health. You can change your work situation and your mindset to enhance your employment and other equally important areas of your life.

How lack of job satisfaction upsets your balance.

You have core emotional needs. These are certainty, variety, significance, love and connection, growth and contribution, as discovered by Anthony Robbins. You are subconsciously driven to meet these needs. Whether you meet them resourcefully or unresourcefully, is your choice. If your work situation meets little of these needs then it puts a lot of stress on meeting them outside work hours. If your need for significance (importance) is not met at work you may put undue pressure on your family to meet this need. If you don't have job security you may try to gain an unrealistic sense of security from your relationship. If you are not growing and learning at work, creating a few unnecessary dramas at home may provide the challenge you are looking for.

How job satisfaction affects your self esteem.

Your self esteem is raised through having employment that you enjoy and which utilizes your individual skills and talents. When you are respected and valued in your work place you naturally feel worthy. When you manifest enjoyable employment it makes it easier for you to manifest other quality experiences outside of work. Your job satisfaction can be a barometer for what you think you deserve.

How your job satisfaction affects your health and relationships

When you are happy at work your stress levels are lower which improves your health and you cope better with challenges outside of work. When you come home from an enjoyable day's work you are happier to be around, you feel more satisfied and content and this rubs off on your family. Working in a rewarding occupation provides a good role model for your children; modeling to them that they too deserve to have fulfilling employment.

So what can you do about your level of job satisfaction?

Change your thinking

Changing your thinking is the first step because you will take your thinking with you to any employment you choose.

To change you're thinking:

  • Write a list of all the things to be grateful for in your job. What does it give you?
  • Compare your employment with something that would be worse.
  • Find ways to reduce your stressful thinking e.g.
  • "In the big scheme of things, how important is this task"
  • What do you need to accept that you wish was different.
  • Take one day at a time
  • Focus on the activities that serve you and bring you pleasure.
  • Know that the only thing consistent is change. This employment may not be forever.
  • Being aware if your expectations are realistic.

Begin the process of changing jobs

  • Raise your expectations of what you deserve.
  • Discover what limiting beliefs or patterns are holding you back from having the employment you would like.
  • Start looking for the options and possibilities that you haven't noticed before. What would you do if you knew you wouldn't fail?
  • Ask yourself: What will it cost me if I stay here for the next five to ten? What has it cost me so far? How good will it be for me and my family if I move onto something I love.

The extent to which job satisfaction affects work-life balance, self esteem, health and relationships will be different for everyone. You decide if it is at a level that serves you and your family. If you find it's not serving you, you need to change your thinking, your situation, or a mixture of both. Improving your level of job satisfaction can make a dramatic difference to other major areas of your life.
