How to Achieve Success in Less Than 1 Year - Stop Self Sabotage (7 Tips)

As you have seen, self-sabotaging behavior can impact your ability to succeed. The negative self-talk and behavior easily forms a habit that keeps you stuck and unable to move beyond your comfort zone. Even so, there is hope. This article offers seven tip on how to stop self-sabotage - you can turn it around and achieve success in less than one year.

7 Tips

  • Investigate where the self-sabotage is coming from.

Is it from having low self-esteem or some type of anxiety? Are you needy or have unreasonable expectations? Does your self-sabotaging behavior come from a lack of assertiveness? You will need to be honest.

  • Watch your words.

When you catch yourself saying or doing something negative, turn it around. Keep repeating the positive talk. Develop a list of affirmations and post them nearby. Read them throughout the day.

  • Address your fears.

Use your fear to come up with a message that inspires you to face them. For example, say something like, "Even though I do not have the skills to complete the project on time, I know I can learn or find the resources I need to finish it.

  • Examine the behavior you want to change first.

Look at that behavior and notice what the story is that generates that behavior. Is the story true? If so, how can you let it go or change the behavior?

Self-sabotaging behavior often pops up from something we've previously experienced or been told. Learning to recognize when you are doing it and what is causing you to do is the first step to changing it.

  • Do not wait until things are perfect.

We often want to be 100% certain of an answer before we speak or put an idea into practice. Strive for excellence but put it out there anyway.

  • Get out of your comfort zone.

Take a few steps every day away from what feels comfortable. Learn a new skill. Build your confidence by learning a new skill. Just the act of trying to achieve the new skill will boost your confidence and get you out of your comfort zone.

  • Shift your belief by visualizing a positive outcome.

Start slowly and make small changes. Do not try to sprint ahead and make drastic changes. Changing your self-sabotaging behavior will take time, work, and consistent effort. But the end results can be amazing. You will be able to go for your dream and express yourself in a positive way.

Kindness and Happiness (By Tina Tessina)

Recently, I went through very unpleasant and difficult dental work, and the outpouring of kindness I received-from my husband, who held onto my ankle all through the two and a half hours (and had nightmares that night about it) to my dear friends, who offered me support and encouragement to heal and take care of myself-made me feel blessed, despite the pain. I don't think there's a greater happiness in life than knowing the people who love you are there for you.

We can cry together when loss is inevitable; and fight together when there's a chance something can be changed for the better. We can go for a walk, and share an hour of stories and mutual ideas. Contrary to the currently popular notion that what you have is more important than anything else, I find that who I know, who cares about me, and who is there for me makes the difference in how well my life goes.

Kindness

I have a textile art piece in the hall outside my office-a beautiful quilt square by Cynthia A Morgan-containing the following quotes about kindness:

A Kind Word textile art piece by Cynthia A Morgan

"One kind word can warm three winter months" - Japanese proverb

"Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see" - Mark Twain

"Forget injuries; never forget kindnesses" - Confucius

"Constant kindness can accomplish much. As the sun makes ice melt, kindness causes misunderstanding, mistrust and hostility to evaporate" - Albert Schweitzer

"That best portion of a good man's life; his little nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love" - Wm. Wordsworth

"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted" - Aesop

"The greatest work that kindness does to others is that it makes them kind themselves" - Amelia Earhart

"My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness." - Dalai Lama

"Kindness in words creates confidence.

Kindness in thinking creates profoundness

Kindness in giving creates love" - Lao Tzu

Spreading kindness is the best way I know to be happy. If you want to spread kindness around, here are some ideas:

• Kindness begins on the inside-learn to be as kind in talking to yourself as you are to others-then, keep improving. Self-talk sets the bar for the happiness in your life.

• Letters, e-mails, notes and cards expressing kind words to your friends, kids or spouse and family, even when you live together or nearby. Getting uplifting messages will inspire anyone's day.

• When you know someone who is ill, bereaved, down or needs help; get together with other friends and work together to get them what they need: whether it's a meal, some company, or errands run.

• So many of us are lost about how to help a friend in times of grief; but all that's really needed is a little kindness and a listening ear. Grief needs a witness, and you can listen sympathetically.

• Don't forget to express your gratitude, beginning with the simple "Magic Words"-please and thank you. Manners are social lubricant-they hold society together, and they show respect to others. There's respect for self (treating oneself as you would a good friend), respect for family and friends, respect for differences, like other cultures, races, religions. There are certainly rewards for kindness. It lubricates social connections, and lays a foundation for love, friendship, business success and social recognition in your own life.

• One of the kindest things you can do for yourself is to keep a positive outlook and see the silver lining. Often we feel unlucky because we aren't noticing the luck we have. Even if something bad has happened, such as the loss of someone dear, the fact that you had such a person in your life was lucky, or having something to lose, in the first place, is lucky. By all means, express grief for your loss, but also remember the gift that you had whatever time with that person before the loss.

• Every gift is an expression of love, and every giver should be thanked graciously, no matter what the gift is. Whether you're giving or receiving, what counts is the thought, not the value. May you give and receive kindness as much as possible-it will make you happy.

Slow Down: One Step At A Time (By Linda Hancock)

A few years ago, I telephoned a mentor and said "I don't know if I want to live in British Columbia". She was surprised and asked for more information. I told her that I had found an advertisement for what seemed to be an interesting job opportunity in BC.

Now mentors are individuals who set a good example for us and offer wise advice. This is exactly what my mentor, Elsie offered me.

She said "First you decide if you want to apply for the job. Then you wait to see if they invite you to an interview. If they do, decide if you want to participate. Write down questions, tour the area and then wait to see if they offer you the job. If they do, then decide if you want to live in British Columbia."

Great advice! She broke the whole process down into a number of small steps, Each lined up in a domino fashion where one had to fall before the next one was in play.

Jethro Bodine from The Beverly Hillbillies was an adult with a grade seven education who always simplified difficult concepts in a humourous manner. If he had been my mentor he likely would have said "Don't commence to swimmin' til you hit the water".

So how do you handle a world that causes anxiety and seems to force decision-making?

  1. Quit focusing on what you cannot control - Our twenty-four hour television and internet sites are filled with opinions, drama and crises. Turn them off!
  2. Listen to your self-talk - If you find yourself thinking "What if... " that means you are considering things that haven't even happened yet. Don't borrow trouble by letting your mind catastrophize over events that "might" but probably "won't" happen.
  3. Distract yourself with positive activities - Play a board game with friends, do some volunteer work, learn a new skill, go for a walk, clean a drawer, sing. Deliberately begin doing things that will busy your mind with interesting thoughts.
  4. Wait - My grandmother used to always say "This too shall pass" and she was usually right. The nature of life often uses time to resolve issues or prevent trouble from occurring. Think of how many times you knew exactly how something would turn out only to discover that you were wrong. Just because you think it or plan it doesn't mean that it will happen.
So, before you force yourself to make decisions or lose sleep about things that might happen, consider the wise words of my mentor and Jethro.

"Don't commence to swimmin' til you hit the water".

Happiness Quotations: Be of Solemn Joy

It's so easy to look for happiness without. The self-talk goes like this "I'll be happy when I'm driving a new truck," or "I'll be happy when I'm in love with a new man," or "I'll be happy when I get back to the body I had when I was a teen."

The looking without doesn't get happiness and then it's easy to get down in the dumps.Watch the self-talk for most people loop negative self-talk that they learned from parents. The funny thing is that parents learned from their parents. So your negative self-talk might stem from six generations ago. Now if six generations ago your family was well-off and joyful, that would indeed be magic. But if you are like many, six generations ago your family was in poverty and ached to escape to a new land. So to break-free of unhappiness, take some time to replace negative self-talk with joyful happy quotes.

Here is your happiness quotation for today, an original happy quote

Be of Solemn Joy. You are Loved.

You can trust the happiness that is deep inside of you. You can trust it because it is the very essence of you. It doesn't belong to anyone else.

You might express happiness by giving your dog a warm bath. You might express your happiness planting a garden for spring flowers to bloom. You might need to ride a bicycle fast downhill, or go to the gym and go for a swim.

You are not made of the same cloth as any other being on the planet.

If you can reach up, touch the sun with your heart. Reach up and allow the sun to warm you, even on a cloudy day when the rainbows are hiding. The sun has powerful and potent energy to heal and nourish.

How you are one-of-a-kind

It is surprising to discover that siblings have different genetic make-ups. Same parents, different mixes of genetics to comprise that one-of-a-kind expression of humanity.

It is not a surprise then that every creation of yours is yours alone. Be of joy today for you are here to express your own individual chi.

Happiness does not have to be elusive. Be of solemn joy today, and know that you are loved. In all your imperfections and perfections, in your own height and weight and problems and successes. All of this magic of you is why you are here.

Be of solemn joy. You are loved!

Why You Cannot Stay Focused - Causes and Solutions

Would you like to stay focused and enjoy an unmatched level of concentration like Albert Einstein? This may seem too elusive courtesy of distractions that form an inevitable part of life and also tend to draw your attention away from the core areas, but it is definitely not impossible.

Irrespective of whether you are a student, a professional or a stay-at-home individual, poor concentration is something that does tend to set in over a period of time and very soon you find yourself struggling to stay focused. Invariably you start the day worrying incessantly about your inability to focus and this in turn leads to undue mental stress. If ignored and allowed to grow unabated, it could also impair your memory and aggravate into amnesia.

What Causes You To Lose Focus?

Loss of concentration and focus is due to several causes which are -

Inability to control self-talk - All of us are born with that little voice in our heads that keeps on talking throughout the day. While some of it may pertain to the present, much of it is distraction and tends to draw you away from your current situation. And before you even realize, your mind is wandering all over the world.

Procrastination - To procrastinate is human. While you may have won a momentary victory by getting away from a particular task, the stress of completing it at a later date is enough to destroy your focus on the task at hand.

Scattered brain - When you have too many things on your mind, chances are that you are unlikely to stay focused on any of them. Maybe you are an expert at multi-tasking but there are times when everything piles up and demands attention. Such situations usually trigger stress and may also lead to memory loss.

Is There A Solution To Stay Focused?

Indeed there is a solution to this problem and it entails a combination of both internal and external remedies.

Internally you would be required to make an effort to stay more in the 'now', to prepare a list of to-do jobs and follow it and prioritize tasks so as to minimize procrastination. Externally, you could rely on supplements to enhance cognitive functions and memory. These would enable you to recover from undue stress and experience a significant improvement in overall personal health.

Using Natural Supplements to Stay Focused

Natural supplements could be taken in form of tablets or tonic and are enriched with antioxidants and tonics like Jala Brahmi and Arjuna which boost blood circulation to the neural region. Herbs like ashwagandha shield your nervous system from the degenerative effects of stress and in the process enhance cognitive functionality, thus improving both concentration and focus.

Natural herbs in supplements, particularly ashwagandha, energize and fortify the body's immune system. You are thus better poised to overcome weakness and recover from mental stress.

Another big positive is the absence of side effects while using these natural supplements, their positive impact on your health notwithstanding. Of course these supplements need to be taken as per the prescription so as to derive maximum benefit.

Final Word

Once your concentration improves and you are able to stay focused, there are bound to be a number of positive developments in your life, like faster completion of tasks, enhanced productivity and better quality of work. Success does not seem as elusive as before and you tend to enjoy every aspect of your life more than ever.

Your Self-Talk And Mental Picture Determines The Level Of Dedication To Your Actions

Develop A New Consciousness And Awareness

What is the predominant self-talk that takes place in your mind? Is it affirmative or a disempowering voice that tries to convince you the world is a dark and scary place? It's easy to get pulled into this narrative because the voices are real and so we conclude they must be true. Or are they? I often use an exercise in seminars where I ask participants to tell me what they will think next. I explain, if they identify with their thoughts, surely they must know what their next thought will be. Unless there are psychics in the audience, rarely do people know what their next thought will be until it occurs. The point is: thoughts come and go from our minds and unless we give them meaning, they have little power in and of themselves.

So let's return to your self-talk. You might be accustomed to listening to the voice in your head, that perhaps you're no longer aware of the negative thoughts? Yet, that is what we must pay attention to if we want to change our circumstances. It's said: thoughts become things, meaning everything in the physical universe begins with a thought. The house or the apartment you live in exists because an architect had an idea for the design of the building. Your smartphone, laptop or computer, began its life with a thought. The point I wish to emphasise is: our reality is the result of our thinking, whether it be positive or negative. When negative circumstances show up, they merely shine the light on the truthfulness of our thoughts.

For example, consider a current problem in your life you want to improve. Do you believe there's a solution you haven't discovered yet? I'm hoping you will realise that the nature of your problem results from your thinking alone. This doesn't mean your thinking is flawed, it means you have directed your thoughts, whether conscious or unconscious to something unwanted and it has manifested as a result. Do you agree, if we want a different outcome, we must change our thoughts or at least our perception of the problem? It was Albert Einstein who once said: "We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them." Put simply: We must develop a new consciousness and awareness in which to perceive our problems from a higher level. The same consciousness cannot solve the problems created with our current level of thinking.

Awareness Shines The Light On Our Thoughts

How does this relate to your self-talk or mental picture influencing your actions? If we replay the same script and visualise it through the lens of negativity, it must eventually manifest in our life. We agreed earlier that thoughts become things. What we think about and give our attention to, must it show up in our reality? I'm not talking about the law of attraction but universal laws that govern the framework of reality. The Hermetic aphorism states: "As within so without." Meaning, what happens at the level of thoughts is reflected in our reality. When we combine self-talk with a mental picture, we add colour to what appears in our life. We define it and give it energy, irrespective of whether it is a negative thought or a positive one. This is an idea the motivational psychologist and author Dr. Shad Helmstetter emphasises in What To Say When You Talk To Your Self when he says: "Self-Talk is a way to override our past negative programming by erasing or replacing it with conscious, positive new directions. Self-Talk is a practical way to live our lives by active intent rather than by passive acceptance."

People often ask: Does it mean I need to be attentive to every thought? No, since that requires a lot of mental energy best devoted to other things. The key is to observe our thoughts with an expanded awareness instead of remaining unconscious to them. Awareness is the key that unlocks us from the prison of negativity and self-destruction. It is the key to inner peace and freedom because it is the filter for our thoughts. Awareness shines the light on the congruency of our thoughts. If we wish to change our external conditions, being aware of what we think is the first step. I often use the example of a ship changing course midway through its journey in the ocean. First, the captain must change course and map new coordinates and relay this information to his crew. The same is true of ourselves: our awareness shines the light on our inner self-talk and mental picture. If we wish to change our future, it must begin by observing our mind and becoming conscious of our unconscious thoughts. It is only then, the level of dedication to our actions become congruent with a shift in awareness.

Five Steps to Transform Your Anger

If we lose objectivity due to our anger, we lose control of ourselves and the situation. There are five steps we can take to transform our anger into something positive and constructive.

Step #1: Disengage from the Situation

When we disengage, we focus on the results we want while we cool down. We can either physically remove ourselves from the situation or take an emotional time out. Disengaging is not the same as withdrawal, which is in effect a power play that involves resisting the other person's feelings. It is simply a way to keep defensiveness from escalating.

Disengaging means setting aside differences temporarily and being willing to address them at a later time. It is taking a time-out to reflect, reduce the tension, and let our emotions settle.

At the same time, it is important to assure the other person they will get to have their say. Setting a specified time to renew the discussion is one way to communicate our intention to deal with the issues. The effect of this is to acknowledge the other person's point of view (and their worth) without saying we will agree with them.

To effectively disengage, we need to make two basic assumptions:

1. that our own competence is not in question, and

2. that we are not being personally attacked.

Step #2: Defuse Anger

Anger is almost always accompanied by self-talk that focuses on what seems unfair or hurtful, an unmet expectation, how upset we are, or how we are going to react. To defuse anger, we need to rewrite that script.

Try to discover the thoughts that are fueling your anger. Then test each thought:

· Is it based on observable facts?

· Is it giving you good ideas to calm yourself and resolve the problem you face?

· Is it free of distortion?

If you answer "no" to any of these three questions, your thinking is likely making the situation worse and should be discarded.

Step #3: Determine the Desired Positive Outcome

Our goal is to find a more positive yet rational view of the situation. We need to focus on realistic expectations for this person or situation based on past behavior. Then we need to create a plan for what we will do next time rather than getting angry or inappropriately expressing our anger.

A good plan is specific and describes actions that we will take. It is under our control and its outcome can be measured. Having a plan increases our sense of control and will actually reduce any anger arousal that might potentially be triggered.

In order to create your plan, place the unpleasant situation in the context of current and past factual events that are more acceptable to you. Then reevaluate it in the light of less threatening facts that help you understand another person's actions. Review your own strengths and consider what you need to help you cope with this situation.

Step #4: Discover the Other Person's Needs

Effective listening can make us more competent, defuse anger in others, help us understand others, win respect, and build self-esteem in others. Inquiring about the other person's concerns and listening actively can help build a foundation of mutual trust.

When we feel the need to criticize people or correct their behavior, it helps to remember what it is like to be on the other side. To empathize is to figuratively put ourselves in the other person's place.

It is also useful to empathize when we feel we're being personally attacked and are about to become defensive ourselves. If we try to understand what may have motivated the other person's behavior, we may be less likely to react in a way that escalates the situation.

Step #5: Discuss Mutual Needs and Desired Outcomes

When we communicate our feelings, needs and goals to the other person, we want to do it in an assertive win-win problem-solving manner that is least likely to generate a defensive response.

A powerful, non-defensive way to do this is through "I statements." Beginning with "I statements" says we are taking responsibility for our communication. The statements often begin with the words "I feel."

James Creighton suggests following up "I feel" with words that describe our emotions, followed by a description of the precipitating event, and then its tangible or emotional impact.

An example is: "I feel (I statement) angry (emotion) that I had to look all over for the car keys (precipitating event). Because it took so much time, I was late for my appointment (tangible impact).

An example in the workplace might be: "I feel (I statement) upset (emotion) that I did not receive your marketing budget on time (precipitating event). Because it was late, I will need to rewrite the proposal (tangible impact)."

According to communications trainer Robert Bolton, at least 90 percent of non-blaming messages that describe tangible effects result in the other person trying to resolve the problem.

To skillfully disclose our concerns to the other person, we also need to avoid the use of words and phrases that convey absolutes, such as "never," "always," and "absolutely certain." They will most often trigger a defensive response.

There are times when we need to inquire to uncover the concerns of the other person. Asking questions allows us to focus on our task rather than our disagreement. After we inquire, we need to listen carefully, giving the other person our complete attention.

Making Your Life Choices

There are times in our lives where we sometimes wish we had never said something or when we made an action we later regretted. "If only I had kept my big mouth shut or not done that... Everything would have been OK."

The choices we make can land others and us in deep trouble. They can be life changing. Why do we do it? It's not as if it's always a surprise to us.

Our partner says something to us in the morning, we snap back, they retaliate and snap back louder, before we know it a slanging match is in full swing and when we leave to go to work, we don't leave on good terms, we rush off, slam the door behind us and drive the car as if we were on a race track.

Can you recall the self-talk (speaking to ourselves in our mind), still having the argument in your head, going over it again and again, and thinking of even better ways to put your partner in her or his place!

Wow, aren't we cool! What a great way to treat one another.

Actually, it gets even worse. Let's play out the scenario...

We'll say the driver of the car is Tony, and his partner left behind in tears is Helen.

Tony, still driving like crazy eventually gets to work and makes himself a cup of coffee to help to calm himself down. A colleague asks how he is today and Tony grumbles about his wife. Amazingly, a couple of hours later we find Tony laughing and joking with his work mates and forgotten all about Helen left at home in tears.

Tony is happy, working away, seemingly not a worry in the world.

5pm and it's time to go home. Tony says cheerio to his work mates, with a few laughs on the way out. Tony jumps into his car and heads off to home, radio on and believe it or not is singing away. Then all of a sudden the mood starts to change. It's as if a dark cloud of depression has clouded Tony's mind. He starts to reflect on what happened in the morning, and going over the words exchanged between Helen and himself.

Tony starts to drive more erratically, switches the radio off, and is cursing under his breath.

On arriving home, Helen has also returned from work. Tony goes into the house, slams the door, throws his car keys on the table, and goes to the lounge-room to put on the TV. Walking past Helen, who still looks quite sad. I'm sure Helen has not had a good day.

What has happened?

I'm going to stay with Tony here. What has he done? Well, for starters he made choices. When Helen snapped at him in the morning it might have been because she was frustrated with things going on in their lives at the moment. After all, Tony is not the easiest person to live with.

Tony, whether he thinks so or not made a decision, a choice, and not a very good one. He decided to retaliate.

One thing we all have in common is the ability to make choices. These may be good or bad ones, but nevertheless, a choice. The only thing missing sometimes is the wisdom to know which way to go. There are times we need to stand up for others, and ourselves and it could get heated, but it could be the right decision depending on the circumstances.

Getting back to Tony. What sort of decision do you think he made? Good or bad? Right or wrong?

Tony made a bad decision, not only for his wife, but also for himself. Let's explain...

By Tony snapping back at Helen and maintaining his mental disharmony (for want of a better word) he can set the scene for the day for not only his wife, but also himself. But wait; half way through the day Tony is laughing and joking with his work mates. OK he is not at home with his wife, but he has changed his demeanor. Why? He made a choice to. Whether subconscious or deliberate, he changed from his angry mood on arrival, to now a happy one. He made a choice. But wait again; on Tony's way home he starts to revert back to his morning's temperament.

Why? Whether subconscious or deliberate, he made a choice.

I know sometimes people can be in bad moods all day, and again they choose to. There has to come a time when we draw a line in the sand and make a quality decision. And by quality decision, I mean one that you have determined not to back down from.

We all have alternatives to choose from. Tony at the beginning of the day could have stifled out Helen's anger by making a quality decision to try to understand why Helen is in such a state. And if it's because of Tony's attitude, we need to be man enough to take it on the chin, broaden our shoulders, and show Helen the real man she lives with.

When you are confronted with an undesirable situation, step back, assess, draw that line in the sand and determine to make a quality decision not to cross it, but find an alternative that will be a blessing to all concerned. So what, if at times you might have egg on your face, won't it be worth it?

Can we do it? Yes we can!

The Unbelievable Power Of Certainty

Man Wearing White Dress Shirt and Black Blazer

For centuries now, in history, the unbelievable power of certainty is the attribute that draws people to leaders and experts. It is what comes into play when you want to influence, make an impact or achieve the impossible whereas a lack of it can stop you dead in your tracks. But what is certainty?
How do you get such trait? Do you have a lack of confidence from time to time? Are you allowing yourself to doubt, even if it is for a second? Why do you still lack confidence, despite knowing, doing, preparing or practicing?

The reason is you possess some uncertainty! It can be about yourself, your abilities, what you believe in, your relationship or anything else. Have you ever known someone who knows their stuff, but just lacked confidence? Well, confidence comes from knowing yourself or your own business, but in taking it a step further, you understand that the power of certainty comes from not doubt at all.

My Shaolin Kung Fu master always says that self-confidence is for children and you have better to be certain. If you do not sense an inner certainty about what you want or what you need to do, then it will be over before you know it. Luckily for you, the power of certainty can be developed.

Gaining certitude can take time but the more you use it, the better you will get. It begins with you sharing your ideas so often that you finally find your voice and become sure in what you believe or teach. It is a big deal because the more you share with others, the more certain you will become. The power of certainty provides the key to unlocking what is holding you back.

"Certainty helps us take the actions to achieve our dreams." - Tony Robbins
The Inner battle for Certainty
You have to understand that when ideas take hold in your mind, an inner battle begins between your unconscious and conscious mind. It often comes down to your conscious mind which wants something while your unconscious mind may not believe a thing you say. When you lack power of certainty, there is automatically a conflict, a struggle, and ideas just remain thoughts.

You might be trying to tell your unconscious that you are going to you will be financially free in ten years' time or that you will have millions by the time you are thirty. But if your conscious mind is uncertain and has doubts, it will go 'Yes, right. No way in hell!' Then rejects your energy and desires into space where it will just bounce back and have no effect.

Your certitude needs to be anchored so deeply that it becomes unshakable. But at first, your power of certainty has to be greater than your doubts. When you choose to act with such inevitability, you can overcome any fear or doubt you might have. You can achieve it mentally through invocations, not affirmations, but invocation as it involves feelings of certainty through your bones, body, heart, and soul.

As an expert, I believe you owe it to yourself to act with certitude. I truly believe and have also personally experienced the power of certainty which grows over time and goes beyond self-confidence.

The Lack of Certainty brings a Lack of Action
If you unsure and do not feel a power of certainty, you will surely lack taking action. To live their financial dreams, most people always think about wanting to generate an enormous amount of money. They love to talk a good game with some 'If... ,' and tell others about their big dream, but in the end, they never take action to realize it.

What are the reasons? Well, they do not have the certainty that they can do it. They have no certitude about the outcome. They do not believe in themselves or how they can get there. They then begin to fall into fears and doubts. As a result, their self-thinking and self-talking put things off.

Self-talk combines that little voice and the quiet conversations you have with it. You should be more careful of these little internal phrases as they can build your power of certainty or to tear it apart. It is a fact that certainty has a real influence on your conduct and actions. How? If you have failed to take decisions in any part of your life, it is somewhat because you are uncertain or unsure as to which method could succeed or fail. So you put off what you need to do today until later.

The Influence of Certainty over Confidence
The power of certainty paves the way for you to take action, even massive action. And the impact of these massive actions is how you improve your confidence and make things happen in your life. But what is holding you back from raising your game?

From what I have seen and learned from my experiences all over the world, is that it does not matter how confident or successful you are, we all have certain zones of weakness from time to time. I do not believe that anyone is immune to uncertainty. But if you decide to do something, and start to plan towards it, you then create confidence which in turn builds in time, certainty.

Therefore, it is when you decide with absolute certitude that you are going to create your dreams and then start to build a plan that something almost magical happens. You start to develop a power of certainty that influences and surpasses your confidence. You unexpectedly see that there are ways to achieve your objectives.

Suddenly, your goals dribble, drop by drop, deep into your unconscious to find the means to make your dream a physical reality. It is when the fairy tale begins. I am pretty sure that there was at least one time in your life where you experienced the absolute power of certainty.

The Power of Certainty Is Personal
Too many people live between reality and fiction when it comes to sensing certainty. But I know from personal experience that you or anyone is capable enough to do many things that most people think are impossible. Your certainty and confidence are about what you believe it to be. What is important is your perception.

"Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you are dead right." - Henry Ford
Therefore, perhaps it is often up to what you believe to be true. It sounds annoyingly accurate, isn't it? Of course, the power of certainty is not something you can just switch on or off. Very often, you need help with your ability to build and uphold your certainty as well as your confidence, mainly when it comes to challenging circumstances.

The Unbelievable Power of Certainty
At the moment you begin to carry yourself with certainty, people become logically attracted to that quality you have. When others feel your power of certainty, they tend to start trusting you as well. And as soon as you speak with certitude and act with conviction, it alters the way the world around you responds. Great leaders and dictators throughout history are excellent examples of this.

You need to realize that the power of certainty creates opportunities that would not have existed otherwise. Your body language also has a significant influence on the way others perceive you. It includes the way you carry yourself, your gestures, facial expressions, walk, and even your care. And all of these, in turn, send strong signals to your nervous system and unconscious mind.

It means that if your body sends signals to your nervous system which matches a personal power of certainty, your attitude will also adjust as to be in tune with these signs. You have to learn to develop and display incomparable certainty because it will change your life for good at every level of your being. Certainty and confidence are like powerful magnets.

Possessing the Power of Certainty
When you possess the power of certainty, with no doubt in yourself and your abilities, you begin to attract new chances, means, opportunities, resources, and people into your life. You suddenly start to find ways to open whatever doors are necessary to create the life you want.

Today, certainty is a necessity for being a successful person. So if this post resonates with you, why don't you start building certainty for yourself and see the difference it will make for you. You now know that it only takes common sense and discipline to reach beyond confidence and tap into the power of certainty.

Remember that if other people can do it, you can, too. But to actually develop, grow and improve the power of certainty, you should make it a routine to find the role models and take example by reading about people who inspire you to what is possible and impossible. So do not be reticent to plunge into the unbelievable power of certainty to help you achieve your goals and dreams.

10 Tips to Help You Practice Self-Love

Woman Doing Hand Heart Sign

What do you see when you look in the mirror? Or perhaps a more relevant question is, 'who's the most important person in your life?' Some people will regard their boss or work as their top priority, and of course earning money, supporting their family and having something, hopefully fulfilling, with which to occupy themselves is important.

For others relationships are the answer; their children, friends, family or partner top their list every time. Then of course, we all know someone rather smug who says without a second thought that they are the most important person in their life! They'd buy tickets to see themselves in concert!

Today, though, we're reflecting on the type of self-love which recognises that making decisions to look after ourselves means taking responsibility for our own health and happiness. When we do that everyone in our lives also benefits. I'd like to share some tips to help you manage the negative events, hurts and disappointments that happen in life which impact on our expectations and influence our view of the world.

Here are ten ways to practice self-love.

- Introduce 'reasonable' affirmations. Saying 'I'm gorgeous/beautiful/perfect' is enough to give many people a bad case of indigestion, but being reasonable in our self talk enables us to say something like 'I am taking positive steps everyday', 'I am moving towards my goals and feeling good about myself'. Find something positively phrased, that sits well with you and repeat it daily. This practice can help to change your mindset and overcome years of unfortunate conditioning.

- Do things that you do well. Even, in fact especially, in a busy life, it's important to schedule time for things that you're good at, so that you remind yourself how capable you are. Playing sport, baking a cake, doing some handiwork, even helping someone out are all ways to boost your self-love and bolster your confidence and self-esteem.

- Encourage others to be appreciative of you. Self-love can benefit when others show that they value you, the help you've given them or the ways you've supported their lives. Be okay about drawing their attention to your endeavours and training them to be appreciative.

- Be gracious in accepting praise. So many of us are embarrassed or uncomfortable about praise or compliments. Instead of shrugging it off smile, be gracious and absorb it. That way everyone concerned feels good.

- Tackle the overwhelm and break tough tasks into bite-sized chunks. Self-love can suffer when we feel swamped or don't know where to start. Could fear or perfectionism play a part in this state of mind and, if so, start to address those issues.

- Build your team. Delegate, even to children at home. Let them feel involved and responsible for chores like setting the table or folding the laundry. At work encourage people to improve their skills - they may even come up with good ideas and better ways of doing things. Consider hiring help so that you get the best person to do the job, like your accounts, social media, PR or marketing. Then you can feel self-love as you do the tasks you're uniquely equipped to do.

- Learn to say 'no' well. No can be the most positive word in your vocabulary when used in the right way, at the right time, with the right person. Without it you can end up running yourself ragged, feeling used, resentful and stressed out.

- Ask for help. Do you expect other people to be psychic and know what's going on in your mind, how you're feeling, what you need? Practice self-love and communicate what you need from others. Communication is also about listening well. So be interested and attentive in your relationships and allow them to thrive.

- Take time out. Breaks are an important part of managing stress and learning to love and respect yourself. Identify the times when you typically start to feel unwell, tense, edgy and find ways to take breaks before this occurs. Go outside for a walk, enjoy some fruit, read a book, listen to music, take a relaxing bath. Maybe even put yourself in your diary like you would an important client, and honour that appointment!

- Learn to say 'yes' too at times. Self-love is about stepping outside your comfort zone and occasionally scaring yourself a little. And often when we say 'yes' to seemingly impossible opportunities it's amazing how doors start to open to support those situations. Keep a 'happy' or 'success' book and record those mini-triumphs. Then you'll have a log which supports you in more difficult times.

Self-love engages all the different elements of your life. When you establish strong roots the tree will grow confident and firm, able to weather the storms that come its way. Then, when you look in the mirror, you'll see a positive reflection that's vibrant, joyous and ready to break out of the limits of its frame.

Choose Your Affirmations

Write it down. Take a piece of paper, a few hours of your time, and write it all down - as an affirmation of you, your life, and your ability to choose. Then let it go. Melody Beattie

Sometimes positive affirmations are no match for the overwhelming emotions that many of us can be feeling. We try to be disciplined and write them every day, only to begin to feel that they really are not creating the desired outcome. Yet we know that many successful people affirm the process and even go so far as to demonstrate how they have created the manifestation desired.

Doctor Joe Pace, a recognized performance psychologist, in his video 'Affirm Your Way to Success' talks about how to use Reticular Activity System (RAS) within our brains to help attract the things and experiences we want in our lives. He also gives us an understanding of how we can actually help them show up more often using tools like affirmations.

Some of the key take-aways from the video can be don't give up too quickly on your affirmations and be more mindful of events that are being delivered up to achieve your goals. If you need a check list of activities you can do to enhance your success with affirmations and to reduce the self-talk negative cycle, consider some of the following suggestions...

1. Personal: Ideally, affirmations are written with the word "I" in them. You can only affirm for yourself. The desired change will come about because of something you do, and it is your own inner picture that will change because of your affirmation. This is why we encourage your goals to have action steps, otherwise they appear to be only wishes.

2. Positive: Always describe what you want in your affirmation. Describe what you want to move toward, not what you want to move away from. Checking your mind chatter and negative thoughts is an important first step.

3. Present Tense: Affirmations are written as though they are happening right now. This requires using your imagination and becomes easier with practice. This present tense also helps you break down your affirmation and goals into smaller bits attached to what is really possible.

4. Indicate Achievement: Eliminate words such as, "can, will, should, and want to" etc., from your affirmations. Include phrases such as, "I am, I do, or I have." It is important to give your subconscious a clear picture of the end result as though it is already accomplished. If the achievement is too big for the mind to consider all at once, try describing your goal in increments to make it achievable in your own mind.

5. No Comparisons: Comparing yourself to others is ineffective. The technique of affirming is a personal process. Your measurement of growth is based on yourself. So affirming that you will be number one suggests comparison and may need rewording so that it is your goal.

6. Action Words: Use terms that describe and trigger action pictures, such as "easily, quickly, thrive on, energetically, confidently," in your affirmations.

7. Emotion Words: These are of critical importance. The more positive emotion you feel when picturing your accomplished goal, the faster your affirmation will work for you. It has also been suggested that physical pictures supporting the affirmation help with the emotion and visualization.

8. Accuracy: If an affirmation is written in general terms, the picture may be too vague, and it gives you too many escape routes. For example; if your goal is to exercise regularly, what kind of exercise? Is it jogging, walking, swimming, aerobics, or something else? How regularly? Three times a week? If so, on what days? What time of day and for how long? This is how accurate your affirmations must be.

9. Balance: Set goals, and write affirmations in all areas of your life. You never know if a goal around mental health or physical health can somehow create the synchronicity of the financial goal.

10. Realistic: After you have written your affirmation, close your eyes and picture it. Can you see yourself there? You need to be able to see it, visualize it, and imagine it. So if you want the 2.5 million dollar house in a warm destination, try the $300.0K house first and sell it profitability to then keep moving up the housing market to the $2.5 million dollar property.

11. Confidential: Most of your personal affirmations need not be shared. Share your affirmations only with those you are certain will support and help you achieve them. These are personal and do not need judgement by those that may want you to play small with your dreams and goals. Research seems to support that people who use affirmations successfully manage to bypass their conscious mind so it doesn't reject the new thought. The subconscious mind gets programmed with repetition. So, if you keep at affirmations, eventually the awkwardness stops. These people also keep up with the process and are mindful of negative self-chatter, as well as the synchronicity of events building to our accomplishing our goals.

The Law of Attraction and Letting Go of Your Limiting Beliefs

We are vibrational beings. With every thought we have we transmit a vibration to the Universe. When we place our focus of attention on a particular thought, we strengthen the vibration of that thought. The Universe responds to our vibration by giving us what we are placing our energy and attention on.When we repeatedly hold a thought, it becomes a belief. Our beliefs determine what shows up in our lives. If, for example, a person believes he or she is not deserving of success, then despite all efforts, there will be some way in which she sabotages her success.

Most of our beliefs come from the ideas we picked up in childhood. Unfortunately, many of those beliefs are not true. Think about your self-talk. How often is it encouraging and positive? For most people, the majority of their thoughts are negative and habitual. No wonder so many people struggle to reach their goals and dreams!

Our beliefs, attitudes and values are stored in our subconscious mind. You may not even realize some of the beliefs you hold subconsciously. Our beliefs become the lens through which we see the world and affect how we behave. If you want to know what beliefs you hold, simply look at your life and ask, "What would someone have to believe in order to have created this?"

Perhaps you recognize some of these commonly held beliefs:

  • No matter what I do or how hard I try, it's never good enough.
  • I blame others for my problems.
  • My opinion doesn't matter.
  • What I do isn't really important.
  • If people knew the real me they wouldn't like me.
  • I shouldn't try anything new or risky because I'll probably screw it up.
  • I don't deserve to be happy (be successful, have love, etc.)
  • Mistakes and failure are bad.

The way to consciously deactivate a thought is to replace it with a different thought. When you first give your attention to a new thought, the vibration isn't very strong. But with practice, you begin to shift your limiting dominant thought to the new one. You actually create new neural pathways in the brain, so the new thought is now your default thought. Now you will be transmitting a vibration in alignment with what you want to create in your life.
Think about how you feel when you have a negative thought. Not so good, right? That feeling of contraction is your indicator you are off track from creating what you want. Your Source knows you are deserving and capable of bringing into being everything you want to be, do and have. When you think a negative thought you are out of alignment with what is actually true about you. So, use your feelings as your internal guidance system to tell if you are in alignment with your desires or keeping them away from you.

Some ways to practice shifting to positive thoughts:

  1. Start paying more attention to your self-talk. When you notice a negative thought, gently replace it with a thought that feels better. Practice the new thought as an affirmation. You can start the new thought with the words "I've decided" or "I chose." Ex: I choose to know that I am deserving of success" or "I've decided I am deserving of success."
  2. Scripting is another great way to practice new thinking and raise your vibration. Simply write a story about how you want your life to look, as if it was already accomplished. Use sentence starters like, "I love knowing that... " and "It's so exciting when... " Read your script frequently to raise your vibration-and make sure it is something that feels great to read!
  3. Vision boards and "mind movies" are great if you are a visual person. There are many resources online that will help you with ideas for creating a vision board or create a video version of a vision board.
  4. EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique, also called "tapping") or PSYCH-K are two modalities that work to help you shift limiting subconscious beliefs quickly.

Using Affirmations to Release the Juggernaut Within

Brian Tracy once stated, "Using affirmations... our potential is literally unlimited." I would certainly agree with his assessment. Affirmations are without a doubt one of the most powerful personal development tools I have come across in not only my quest to realize my full occupational potential, but also in dealing with fear and anxiety. In addition to being an incredibly powerful stand-alone tool, I have also experienced that they work quite effectively when paired with goal setting and visualization as part of a daily personal and professional development routine.

For example: Each morning, I pour my favorite donut shop blend coffee in my giant Captain America mug, grab the day by the invisible horns, and say "Alright day. The stage awaits, so let's rock!"

My rhythm section, if you like, consists of goals and affirmations. The work I do in my goals journal acts as my in-the-pocket beat commander. For those of you unskilled in the art of being a wannabe rock star - I'm referring to my imaginary personal development drummer. Along with goals, affirmations add some attitude and flavor to the established focus areas by laying down some beastly low end and supplying an abundance of drive and determination. This rock n' roll party (think Paul Stanley) all gets kicked off within the first hour of being awake. How do you think this sets the tone for the remaining 23 hours? Since establishing this routine, I have personally experienced a dramatic increase in my willingness to get into the work day and immediately take on tasks that might normally frustrate or discourage me.

It is very possible at this point you could be asking yourself "what is an affirmation?" That's actually a great question. An affirmation is simply a positive and assertive statement that can be repeated out loud, as self talk, for many different purposes.

You might develop affirmations for personal growth, professional development, achievement, success, or any number of topics.

In my case, I personally relied on affirmations for dealing with fear and anxiety prior to ever using them in the context of achievement or any similar topics. For example, one of my favorite affirmations for anxiety reads "I exist free of fear."

Compared to the effect that goal setting has had in getting me laser-focused like the "Nature Boy" Ric Flair going after a figure-four leg lock, affirmations have been wildly successful in pairing that focus with a fired-up attitude towards success and achievement.

Here are a few additional examples of affirmations I use regularly:

- "I can do it."
- "I am responsible."
- "I feel incredible."
- "I earn $________ per year, as an exceptional _________."
- "I achieve the goals I set for myself."
- "I am unstoppable."

I should also mention that in my experience, there is no more powerful mental quality to be equipped with in life than resilience. When it comes to affirmations, one of the most important side effects I have noticed is that I am able to rebound far more quickly from rejections, disappointments, and outright failures at any time they may occur. Prior to my current routine this was definitely not the case for me. Affirmations have also provided me with the mental clarity to recognize and be reminded that failure does not exist in and of itself. Failure, in my opinion, is a very important stepping stone to success. Failure is to success as Peter Parker's spider bite is to swinging from buildings via self-generated web.

What kind of experience have you had with affirmations? Are you in need of a tool in your daily routine that may have the ability to drown out negativity while increasing the level of optimism, resilience, drive, and excitement in your life? No matter where you are in your personal development journey it's never a bad idea to begin incorporating affirmations into your daily routine. Don't wait until a better time to begin learning more about the amazing resources that are available at your fingertips. Make a decision to unleash your inner juggernaut today and feel the positive effect that affirmations can make for you!

Self-Sabotaging Words to Reframe

People rarely succeed if they expect failure.

In addition to teaching my clients how to hypnotize themselves to expect success and take action accordingly, I also address how they might be unknowingly hypnotizing themselves to fail in the stock phrases they might use over and over again to describe their situation, goals, or obstacles.

There are seven what I like to call, "self-sabotaging words" which you can use as red flags or as wake up calls to interrupt your unproductive, self-sabotaging language patterns and reframe your self-talk to build greater expectation of success.

The first on the hit list of words to reframe you've probably already heard about, thank you George Lucas, is the word, "try".

As Yoda says, "there is no try, there is only doing or not doing", and he's right. "Try" lets the subconscious part of you know it's OK to fail.

What happens when that friend says, "I'll try to call you next week." Do they call? Usually not. "Try" let them off the hook. What they are really saying is that they'd like to call, but probably won't.

So the next time you catch yourself saying that you are going to "try to be on time". Stop for a moment and affirm to yourself, partner, or your boss that "you ARE going to be on time!"

Second on the reframe hit list is the word, "hope".

As the saying goes, "hope is not a strategy". Hoping, wishing, and praying the phone is going to ring is not going to make it ring. You are just waiting for divine intervention.

At some point you have to get out and advertise. Again, use more active language to describe your goal. Stop saying "I hope this works", and switch to "Let's make this work!"

The third self-sabotaging word to reframe is the word "always".

If you describe yourself as having "always been a light sleeper", then you are expecting to be a light sleeper in the future, because always is always, past, present AND future.

Better to say that "in the past you have been a light sleeper" and keep the future open for change.

"Why do I always do that?" isn't going to get you anywhere.

Now that's different from "No matter how I feel, I always feel better after exercising", that's totally acceptable! That's a keeper.

Just be careful with the word "always" when describing a behavior you intend to change.

Fourth word to reframe is the word, "never".

If you're saying to the coach, "Coach, we're never going to win", then there's no sense you would put the effort into playing your best, and so you are going to be sitting out the game on the bench.

If you take the opportunity to play your best, people notice, and that could open doors later.

Understandably, it may certainly sometimes feel like your injury or illness is never going to get better. Repeatedly describing your injury that way will only make it seem worse, especially if you are facing an uphill battle rehabilitating from a health crisis.

You will only start to feel better or play better by staying in the game and focusing on how everyday you are getting better and better!

"Can't" is the fifth word you can use as a wake up call that a different strategy is needed.

"I can't do this", is fine for setting boundaries and limits with others when appropriate, not for giving up when you meet resistance working toward your goal.

Each time you use "can't" another block is added to big stone wall.

If you hit the wall a few times it obviously hurts and overwhelming resistance just indicates that a new strategy or direction is needed.

Luckily, you are hardwired to resist pain, which hopefully will buy you some time to use your brain to scale that rock wall first in your mind before starting your next climb.

"I can do this" is more likely going to inspire you to devote the energy, use your creative imagination, and picture how you want your life to be different on the other side of that wall.

So reframing "something you can't do" into "something you are having difficulty with", is one way to leave the door open for something different to happen and buys the creative subconscious part of you more time to problem-solve and strategize.

The sixth word is "tomorrow", which is problematic, because tomorrow is not a day of the week. It never arrives.

So if you didn't have time to go running this morning, I suggest you move your running shoes closer to the door and say, "this will help me remember to go running on Sunday morning at 8am". Then it's in your mental calendar and more likely to happen.

Last on the word hit list is the word, "but".

"But" negates all that comes prior in the sentence. Do you want to hear, "You're a great employee, but here's a pink slip, sorry, we have to lay you off."

Are you going to feel like a great employee? Probably not. You want to hear, "You're a great employee, and here's a raise."

If you say, "I really want to do this, but I don't feel like it". What are you stuck with? I don't feel like it.

"And" connects the two sides of the sentence, which might come into play if the first part of the sentence is supposed to be motivational. "And" is also a great meditation tool; it keeps both parties at the negotiating table.

Saying, "I really want to do this, and today is a struggle", is likely to have more meaning if you can own the feeling in the first part of that sentence, since feelings motivate.

"Honey, I love you, and we need to work on our communication", is more likely to keep love in the equation, simply because you took the time to include it with "and" instead of playing lip service to the word.

Choose one self-sabotaging word to reframe at a time, maybe the one you catch yourself using the most. If you need reminding, write your word on your hand or ask a friend to inform you in a respectful and tactful manner when you have used the self-sabotaging word, so you can reframe your language and expectation to work for you, not against you.

Your inner dialog, your expectations, and how you describe yourself or your process to others adds up. The content of your self-talk will determine if you become your own best friend or worst enemy. Pay attention to the words you use to describe your situation, goals or obstacles, make an effort to reframe negative self-talk, and you will be surprised to discover new inner resources you thought you lacked!
