Causes Of Poor Time Management!

Causes of poor time management:

To behave as if time is a cheap commodity. Time is a resource to achieve objectives. It is not to be wasted, but to use it wisely. Time is precious and won't wait for no one.

Procrastination: Decisions have to be thought out very carefully, and they are to be carried through, not put off. And the unpleasant tasks are not to be avoided at any point.

Lack of Prioritization: This is not a good practice. Unless! something else is of high priority and contributes to the laid down objectives.

Poor or non-existent planning: If one doesn't plan ahead and allocates his time properly, then things will get on top of him; or high priority tasks will be missed.

Inadequate contingency arrangements: One doesn't wait for disasters to happen, to plan his procedures and assess possible problem areas, his priority is to leave time in his plan for unforeseen problem areas.

Making good use of his diary: It happens that at times, one just can't put every detail or activity in his summary Gantt-Chart, as there is only room for his key activities. But if he does use his diary effectively alongside his plan, he will see how much time he can have for project work.

Tips of excellent ideas: Meetings and key events; such as Christmas planning time, annual leave, etc., to put in the diary as they are still fresh in the mind. And if one has a regular meeting or activity of some sort, monthly one for example, it must be scheduled for the whole year, so that, when one is planning later in the year, he doesn't forget it. One is to set time limits and allocate the most important tasks to his prime time.

Prioritising the workload: To make a list each day, so that one is aware exactly what he needs to do on a day to day basis. He has to separate the tasks on his list in urgent ( to be done that same day ) and non urgent. Try aim to achieve at least the urgent tasks every-day. To separate the interesting tasks from important goal contributing ones. Treat the interesting tasks as a reward for completing the ones that contributed to his goals. To give himself some time each week to control his in-tray. Separate into action, reading, filling and rubbish.

Delegation: One doesn't have to limit delegation to people he is managing. He planned ahead, assessing which tasks would be suitable for which individual. To challenge people and develop their skills. He doesn't have to do everything himself. His team should be capable of doing the tasks for him. If they are not capable of doing so, he trains them. And he brings them to the required standard. And he has to measure their results as part of their development. The team has to be given the opportunity to show results, a chance to excel themselves and a sense of responsibility. He has to make himself grateful and gives recognition distributed tasks equally when due. He has to hold regular meetings, writes memos or notes and uses the telephone to keep everyone up to date on progress and who is responsible for what. He has to avoid resentment. Sometimes, he has to say 'No'! He has to assess his workload and delegates tasks he was unable to do. And if he says, 'Yes!' he would be taken for granted.

Effecting time in meetings: It happened, that very often, a lot of times are wasted in meetings, in the business as a whole. If one had to have them, he needs to try to make them as short and productive as possible. He has to follow the given advice below, which would help him make the most of the meetings.

(a) He has to draw up an agenda to make the purpose of his meeting clear. Always takes minutes, to ensure actions are delegated. (b) Invite only those who are needed. One will achieve results without excess meetings by using the telephone or e-mails to discuss ideas and agreed action. (c) To ensure he has a good chairperson to control the content of the meeting and to keep an eye on the time. (d) He has to start on time always, to avoid interruption and digressions and to a time limit. (e) He has to set a specific time for individual subjects and to keep to them.

Wasting time on the telephone: Always try to keep the conversation to the minimum, going through key objectives and avoiding chit-chat. He has to make himself very assertive. He doesn't let people go on and on. And nothing can take more than a couple of minutes to resolve. otherwise, make an arrangement to speak to them at a more convenient time.

To be organized, developing an effecting teamwork between manager and staff. Identifying areas where improvement can be made. Manager should have the ability to tell people of what they want to be done or need to be done. Deploy staff where they are more likely to have a positive attitude and know the task they are entrusted to perform and happy of what they are doing.

What Really Makes You a Happy Person?

The experts say we only control 40 percent of our happiness. Are they right?


According to current popular ideas about the science of happiness, 10% of the variance in happiness in a given population is due to life circumstances (age, nationality, sex, race/ethnicity, and income); 50% is due to genetics; and 40% remains under our direct control. These numbers have been repeated in countless journal articles and books, and discussed as fact in college courses around the world.
Be skeptical.
These perfectly round numbers raise more questions than answers, and as of today, I still don't trust them.
When you are given a graph that is this clean, it seems reasonable to be skeptical. For instance, where do we fit in information showing that for certain people, exposure to environmental factors such as toxins or nutriments can switch genes on or off? This is a point that my colleagues and I discussed in prior work.
Although traits may be substantially influenced by genetic factors, individuals select, utilize, and adapt to their environments, affecting gene expression. Behavior geneticists distinguish between gene–environment transactions and gene–environment interactions.
In most cases, the interface between genetics and environment consists of transactions necessary for growth, reproduction, or development. An example of a transaction in the case of character strengths might be the necessity of extensive social experiences to enable the full development of the genetic disposition for social intelligence or leadership.
The term gene–environment interaction refers to a specific process in which the same stimulus affects individuals with differing genes in different ways. Research has revealed several examples of gene–environment interactions that match the diathesis-stress model of psychopathology (e.g., adolescent conduct disorder; Cadoret, Yates, Troughton, Woodworth, & Stewart, 1995). Future investigations may uncover a diathesis-nutriment interaction for character strengths like creativity, in which those with a genetic predisposition respond to enriched, stimulating environments with augmented creativity, whereas those without the predisposition respond less robustly.
Future research should endeavor to delineate how the interplay of genes and environments creates character strengths. In addition, future research might attempt to investigate the presence of non-additive effects. Such effects are difficult to detect unless the samples are extremely large.
What about research showing that as we get older, the genetic influence on our thoughts, feeling, and behavior changes? Consider these meta-analytic findings on various forms of intellect and cognitive functioning, from 12,721 sibling pairs; and on personality, from 21,057 sibling pairs (this is not a sample of 100 college students!):
In early life, shared environmental effects are the major stabilizing force for cognition. Over the first decade of life, the proportional contribution of genetic effects increases from approximately 10% to approximately 70%, and largely remains at that level for the remainder of the lifespan. The proportional contribution of the nonshared environmental effect gradually increases from nearly 0% to about 20% by late life.
In sharp contrast, genetic effects explain nearly 100% of the stability of personality in early life, but this proportion is slowly shaved away as the nonshared environmental contribution increases across the lifespan. By late adulthood, just over 50% of the stability of personality is attributable to genetic factors, with the remaining proportion attributable to nonshared environmental factors. Whereas genetically linked processes guide the stabilization of cognition, unique life experiences guide the stabilization of personality across the lifespan.
When I read this work, I am confused as to how scientists arrive at a single number to account for the genetic contribution to happiness. Genetic influences are often interwoven with environmental factors—check out this killer study of how genomic expression in West African infants depends on whether they are born in the rainy or dry season—and they change depending on when you study someone on the timeline, from toddler to elder. Instead of taking a single equation as fact, ask questions about exactly where the numbers came from: How many studies? What was the quality of those studies?Challenge authority with questions, such as: Why should we expect the numbers to be similar across time in the same person, much less different people from different cultures?
Let me end with tips on how to critically think about behavioral genetics, from one of the leading thinkers in this field, Eric Turkheimer. He arrived at three laws of behavioral genetics—and as of last week, a 4th law has been added. Keep these laws in mind anytime someone tries to sell you on the importance of genetics.

1. All human behavioral traits are heritable. [That is, they are affected to some degree by genetic variation.]

What this means is that if you read about the god gene, the divorce gene, or research suggesting that the length and expression of a single gene explains your preference for The Spin Doctors, think again: Everything has a genetic contribution, so we should never get excited about the discovery of what is obvious. Complex human behavior is unlikely to be governed by a single gene. If one gene is too valuable, humans become too vulnerable. (See Law #4.)
2. The effect of being raised in the same family is smaller than the effect of genes.
3. A substantial portion of the variation in complex human behavioral traits is not accounted for by the effects of genes or families.
Much of what influences our personality has to do with the presence of life events, both positive and negative, and our response to choice points: Do I approach or avoid my co-worker who regularly demeans me? Do I wake up early and work out or sleep in? Do I ask out the girl I've had a crush on for months or do I keep my feelings to myself? No single decision matters, but the patterns do. The decisions we make, the people we surround ourselves with, and the behaviors we engage in are the building blocks for the quality of our lives. Small changes accumulate over time leading to large changes in who we become.
4. A typical human behavioral trait is associated with very many genetic variants, each of which accounts for a very small percentage of the behavioral variability.

Instead of a single "divorce gene," it makes more sense to consider a series of temperamental qualities that influence the probability of divorce, including self-control, impulsivity, behavioral inhibition, distractibility, adaptability, persistence, and mood. For instance, low self-control, high impulsivity, low behavioral inhibition, high distractibility, low adaptability, low persistence, and highly frequent and enduring bad moods is a suboptimal profile for a long, healthy romantic relationship. Each of these qualities has a strong genetic basis; together, they help explain why there is a genetic contribution to whether or not someone gets divorced.
Knowing the origin of what matters most to human beings is invaluable. Behavioral genetics is part of this origin story. Let's take a moment to understand what a genetic contribution means and be skeptical of overly simplistic ideas about what humans do in the wild.

10 Things Creative People Do Differently



Being different is not easy. You may get mocked or simply be misunderstood. That is why many people choose the easier way and hide the fact that they are different from others. It is much easier like that.
Many people do that… but not the creative people. Creative people not only are different, but they also express that difference in different shapes and colors.
So what is it that creative people do differently?
1. They Daydream
Who said dreaming is a waste of time? Who said we should always stick to the reality? Many creative ideas are result of daydreaming and creative people do it on daily basis.
2.  They Observe
We all are too busy to notice the things around us. But there are so many interesting things in the streets, in the public transport, at the office… if we only take the time to observe and notice. Creative people observe the things around them and watch people. Many ideas start their development from there.
3. The ask questions
Creative people are very curious. They ask questions and look for the answers. Each question brings a new path towards discovering new things and coming up with creative ideas.
4. They always look for ways for self-expression
For creative people self-expression is crucial. They desperately need to express themselves, their ideas and share what they have created with the world.
5. They enjoy and cherish solitude
Creative people don’t avoid being alone. Just the opposite, they need solitude, since it boosts their creativity. They feel comfortable being with themselves and actually enjoy the loneliness.
6. They break the rules
Usually the creativity does not fit into the rules. Following the same rules bring us to the same point and we all end up with more-less similar results. One has to break the rules and do things in a different way in order to come up with something original and unique.
7. They take risks

By sharing their works creative people take the risk of not being understood, of not being appreciated or of being thought of as crazy. But that’s the only way to succeed, because until they take the risk and share their works no one will know that they exist.
8. They listen to their inner voice
Creative people have well developed intuition and spend lot of time in solitude. That results in being able to hear their inner voice and have fruitful dialogues with it.
9. They work when they feel like it
Creativity can’t be forced. If you want to kill the creativity then set deadlines, get detailed instructions about what needs to be done and create when you don’t feel like it. Creative people can feel inside when they can produce good quality work and when not. So they follow their own rhythm and are more productive that way.
10. They keep trying
Everyone fails. Life makes sure that you fail once in a while. What’s important is how you react to failure. Creative people keep trying. They simply don’t give up.
One should not forget that we all were born creative and talented. We all have it deep inside. We simply have to find that deep place where the creativity hides, tap into it and nurture it.
