Trending Much? Maybe You're Missing What Sets You Apart (By Nina Oglesby)

It's 4:20 am. I can't go back to bed until I build you up in this. Let my early morning reflection benefit you. Whether you're new to entrepreneurship or you're an oldie but goodie, this encouragement is for you. Often we overlook the possibilities and opportunities of what our gifts present us. We fear where we're behind. On top of that, we live by the code of comparisons. On one end you have blogs that tell us to kill the comparisons we make against ourselves and others. There is another voice of reason that shouts out about competition, competition, competition.

Comparisons can get us in trouble. It robs us of the peace needed to make progress. We feel as if our work is never good enough. And we hold ourselves hostage to where we are. We assume there will be no opportunities left by the time we get this thing (our vision or business) figured out. I know that having peace makes a difference in how we tackle the challenges of our work. So, proceed with caution as you read the next two paragraphs.

Let this morning reflection bless you. Some of the most successful men of our times swear by morning rituals. My morning ritual is meditative writing. You may say, well I am not a religious person. Well, you are a human person. And you know what it is to carry the weight of deadlines, missed objectives, frustration, and loneliness. You know what it is to feel out of the loop. You can't possibly be on top of everything, not by yourself, anyway. You may spend moments doubting yourself. You may even ask yourself, where will I get the budget to implement all these new ideas? So, I want to affirm you and share this with you.

God said that your gifts will make room for you (See. Proverbs 18:16). A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great. He didn't say your technological advances, chatbots, or latest digital trends would do it. He noted {after you've identified, activated, and deployed your room makers} your gifts! Now, if your contribution is your ability to work your stuff in technical advances, then work it! If you must learn how to leverage trends in tech to highlight and work your stuff, so be it! But, don't you dare limit God to what's happening and trending on earth's watch. He can open doors for you through your work, as you work your worth, right where you are.

Nina, are you promoting the idea that it's okay to be behind the curve in what's popping? Not at all! I spend my days studying and learning what's new. Learn to do what's necessary to make your gifts pop. But, you need peace for progress. That can't happen if you limit God's providence to inside the box. You do know he can work outside of it, don't you? Cultivate peace for progress. Your business will thank you for it. So, will your clients and your community.

Let this peace wash over your worries. Remember that you are a gift, with gifts. There is no way around that. It is inevitable. Nothing can dim that truth. The question is will you hold yourself hostage to what you think others think of you? Or will you soar knowing you are a gift, with gifts, to be a gift to the world around you? We spend much time thinking about things matter very little. Yet, we miss what's waiting ahead. We fear we don't have what it takes. You weren't designed with waste in mind. Be confident in that! Tell yourself, I AM A GIFT. I have gifts to be a gift. Well, I am heading back to bed. I'm sure I'll be stopping by to encourage you again. It's sort of my thing. Go be great today! Work your work.

Metaphors Gone Wild: Fire and Motivation

"If my 75% player plays 50% over his ability," legendary football coach Vince Lombardi once asserted, "and your 100% player plays 10% under his ability, my player will win every time."

THE FIRE WITHIN

Author Stephen Covey has acknowledged that motivation is simply a metaphoric "fire within." That fire, of course, can be destructive--just think about the recent wildfires in California. But, properly controlled, fire can provide benefits on a numerous fronts.

DON'T POUT

Thinking of motivation as fire, we can redirect its energy to ensure that deeds and not destruction result.Yes, there is energy in negative emotions. Anger, resentment, envy--if the power of these feelings can be redirected, wonderful things can result. Need proof? Consider the words of jazz maestro Duke Ellington: "I merely took the energy it takes to pout and wrote some blues."

Recognize that for any given situation, you can leave it as it is, make it worse, or make it better. There are no other choices. Ideally, you're the kind of person who opts to make those less-than-ideal circumstances better than they are. If so, your pro-active choices are dependent, in very large measure, on your self-confidence levels. And, there's a wonderfully symbiotic relationship between accomplishment and self-confidence: the more you do well, the more your self-confidence grows. And, the more your self-confidence grows, the more you do well.

PICK THE RIPE FRUIT

Often, motivation is hard to find, even though it may be lying all around us--or above us. When Henry David Thoreau admonished others to "cease to grant that crust!" he was issuing a strong command to seek more from life than leftovers. The second half of his admonition was the observation that "there's ripe fruit above your head." If you are stuck in the muck of a doused fire, if all you can see are the ashes of hope, you need to look around and above you. And, if you still can't see possibilities, ask a trusted friend to discuss the potential fruit to be found in your environment, in your life.

MOTIVATION--INSIDE YOU OR OUTSIDE?

Not surprisingly, psychologists tell us that negative stress results when we feel we have little or no control over situations. One clue to your personal control-factor may lie in the way you answer the question, "How do you know when you've done a good job?". If you cited others--for example, "My boss tells me she is pleased with my work"--then the external-control quotient in your stress-equation is probably pretty high. However, if you cited yourself--for example, "I am pleased with the results of this project"--then your internal-control factor is probably quite healthy.

Ideally, you can light your own motivation-fires. Yes, it's a grand feeling when others recognize our effort. But, it's more important to be able to applaud our efforts ourselves.

Think of all the things you do on a weekly basis. How many of them are you doing because of your own wishes/intents and how many are you doing because others expect or want you to? Express your answer as a percentage: To what extent do you feel "externally controlled"? If your life is directed by others more than 50% of the time, you may wish to stoke the self-motivation fires.

ROMANCE ASIDE

Jose Feliciano rose to the top of the pop charts in the late sixties by asking someone else to light his fire. The sentiment is romantic, to be sure. But, in terms of personal goal-setting and attainment, it's always best to light the fires of motivation by ourselves.

Going Inward

The visionaries who paved the way to where we are now must be commended for their work. They took a dream, a simple dream; they took the time to map out all the different possibilities to set their dream in motion. They stretched their imagination as far as it could go, and it worked out great for them. Sure, there might have been a few dreams that didn't turn out as planned, but in the end, they watched their dreams transform into a life of their own.

Some examples of great visionaries are: Henry Ford, John Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, and Thomas Edison to name a few. You can do exactly what they did by stretching your imagination. The thing about the imagination is, there are no limits, nothing is impossible. It is easy, clear your mind, totally clear it. Think of nothing, just be. Once you do that, you can start to let your mind wander. See what pops up; it can be a word, a phrase, an idea of how you can simplify your life, a new idea, or something that you've always wanted to do. Once you do that, the planning starts. What steps do you have to do to make it come alive? Again, let your imagination flow, the possibilities are endless. Map it out, draw it out, and work continuously to make it happen. You have to keep your dream alive; you created it and it is your responsibility to make it happen.

Our famous frontiersmen and explorers had a dream. They traveled to places no one has gone, they let their imagination go and they had no boundaries. Some of them were: Lewis & Clark, Christopher Columbus, Daniel Boone, Davy Crockett, and James Bowie. Our world is so vast that it makes you wonder. Has every stone been unturned to reveal all of its history that lay beneath the soil? Have our footprints touched every inch of our world? You can focus on a part of the world that you want to visit. What is it that draws to you to that place? Have you seen all there is to see?

Risk is the common denominator that all of these people, and so many more that weren't mentioned, have in common. They took risks, they dared to dream, and they watched it become a reality. You can do the same thing. But you have to be willing to let yourself go, to take risks, and to realize that your possibilities are endless. Many people have paved the way for us; they have had struggles along the way and have made many sacrifices for their dream to come true. Now it's your turn. Stretch your imagination and make your dream come true.

If Only You Believe - Why It Matters

Human nature may be defined by two groups, those whose focus is on the probabilities in life and those who dare to focus on the possibilities. The possibility group is always focused on what can be possible while the probability group denies the existence of anything they cannot see, touch or test. For many in the latter group extraordinary events, even miracles are often pooh poohed and mocked. Impossible, they say! And for them it may be.

Our planet has recently entered the outer bands of multi-dimensional energy. The possibility believers will notice the changes first. Things that others called impossible begin to manifest before their eyes! Information and events they have longed for and dreamed of can soon become reality as cures to difficult diseases seem to appear in totally unexpected ways. Information will arrive to those who are seeking answers even though they may not recognize the source, they simply know this may work; and it will. Aging will be dramatically slowed, not by fancy products but by people who learn to move into this new energy. Life spans will be lengthened while the quality of life is greatly enhanced. The physician within will be heard and acknowledged. All these possibilities are likely to be deemed as nonsense, impossible even, by those probability believers. Why does it matter what you believe?

Look carefully at events that have transpired in your own life. Look closely at events that happened to others, events that caused you to search deeply for how it could have happened. Those are the times you were confronted by the differences in what you believe. Colonel Sanders is a great example. This senior citizen may have been the only believer in possibilities, yet he persevered forward to become a household name. The same is true of Mary Kay, a host of artists, authors and even world leaders. Their legacy is defined by what they were willing to believe; they became a part of the rich history of world events. Imagine how different history would have been written if not for these possibility believers!

What is the real difference in these two groups? Probability believers are severely limited to what they can achieve or become in life. Everyone's opportunities in life are limited to what they can accept as reality, now or in the future. Those who rebuff possibilities are limited to what they already know, what they already believe is possible. Their focus does not extend beyond 'practicality' unless they are forced to seek a miracle. This often happens in doctors' offices and hospitals where the unthinkable has arrived on their horizon and crashed into their lives. No one knows anything that can help a desperate situation and suddenly, they look beyond the probabilities which are unacceptable.

People who are creative and in touch with harmony and the energy around them are the strongest examples of possibility believers and they affect our lives. They are always on a quest for something new; a new design, a new idea, a new way forward. They can become strong problem solvers because they routinely look beyond the obvious. Benjamin Franklin, Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison are among the more famous of those who affected our world because they dared to believe in what might be possible.

If you are willing to remove the self-imposed limits on what might be possible, dispose of the idea that others may find you frivolous or uninformed, you will be poised to take a leap of faith directly into energy that is more magical than we ever dared believe! Obstacles can easily be disposed of while solutions arrive unexpectedly. Miracle shall follow miracle and wonders shall never cease, if only you can believe.

How Not To Make A Decision Under Pressure

Fight or flight? This way or that way? Yes or no?

Each of these three questions describes a brain under pressure. Could be your brain, could be mine. When it comes to pressure situations, we all tend to default to the same mode: a binary mode.

In other words, when we're under pressure and need to make a decision, we all have a tendency to simplify the situation to two choices, and two choices only. We're actually hard-wired to do this, and for good reason.

Think back to when you were a caveman or cavewoman. And if you're too young for that, think back to when your parents were cavepeople. In those days, the typical high-pressure situation involved a saber-toothed tiger, so we'll go with that.

So the situation is this: you're being charged by a saber-toothed tiger. At this point, your brain becomes a binary machine: do I try to run away, or do I stay and fight? That's it. No other options. There's no time to think, "Wait a minute - what if I were to build some sort of rudimentary trap, capture this tiger, domesticate her, name her Lollipop, and feed her two tins of tuna a day... " You'd be tiger food before you finished the word "rudimentary."

That's why we're hard-wired to simplify high-pressure situations to just two options.
The problem with this, of course, is that there are rarely just two options. The saber-toothed tiger went extinct 12,000 years ago, but our brains haven't yet caught up. As this Harvard Business Review article says, "We devote mental energy to figuring out how to avoid a loss rather than developing new possibilities to explore."

In other words, in a high-pressure situation, we're still putting most of our energy into trying not to be eaten.

How do you get around this "binary bias?" These two techniques may help.

Anticipate the crisis.

Many, if not most, high-pressure situations are predictable. A key employee leaves, a supplier goes out of business, a competitor comes up with a game-changer. All of these situations can be anticipated and planned for. So spend some time - either alone or, preferably, with your team - playing "What if?" What if the bad thing were to happen? What would you do? What options would you have?

Play the "vanishing options" game

This comes from Chip and Dan Heath, the authors of Decisive: How to Make Better Choices in Life and Work. When we're under pressure, we tend to pick one option, at which point we stop even considering other options. What the Heaths suggest is a mental game that goes like this: Assume you can't choose any of the options you're considering and then ask, "What else could I do?" Unless you're in that saber-toothed tiger situation and literally have no time (rare), this game will force your brain to see other possibilities.

High-pressure situations are rarely either/or, rarely yes or no. By reducing them to a false binary, we're depriving ourselves of other - possibly better - options.

Wisdom of the Tao - Your Life Makes a Difference

The Tao Te Ching is an ancient Chinese text on the nature of existence. According to legend Lao-Tzu wrote this book of wisdom. It has been translated more than any other volume, except for the Bible.

The creative Source of the universe flows around you and through you. Be flexible and open to all possibilities. Release your need to be right. Be willing either to resolve your daily challenges or to resist pushing against them. When you achieve flexibility, you become stronger and more successful.

Appreciate what you have and let go of the need to accumulate more.

From an inner perspective, you recognize your infinite nature. You realize that you live in a temporary world of physical appearances. See the world beyond your senses and live with this conscious awareness. Relax and stop pressuring yourself to accumulate more. Be satisfied and enjoy peace and contentment.

Embrace silence and cultivate inner awareness.

Tao verse 56: "Those who know do not talk. Those who talk do not know."

Those who feel compelled to talk and persuade are attached to their own point of view. They need to be right. Notice your own need to seek approval. Restrain your inclination to judge others and give unsolicited advice. Silent knowing is a place within you that cannot be communicated to another.

Choose thoughts that reflect your status as an empowered being.

The Source Energy that creates worlds flows through you. Practice conscious awareness of this Source Energy. Through mindfulness and meditation practice you cultivate your inner awareness. With consistent practice your creative energy grows. Tap into your creative energy and change the way you live.

You are not insignificant. You have a part in transforming the planet. Create a life vision that helps you focus your energy. Choose an area for your focus. A life vision helps you live with an inner conviction that your life matters.

7 Easy Ways to Stimulate and Get That Creative Juice Flowing

Creativity - if only it were a pill we can take every time we are in dire need of it. But it isn't and it can be frustrating when our brains are as blank as the white sheet in front of us after an hour of waiting for an idea to pop up.

There are a number of things that stifle creative juices from flowing and doing things to stimulate creativity is just as important as avoiding things that stifle it. However, be assured of one thing, you can be creative if you will set your mind free to innovate, be it solutions, inventions, or artistic creations. The key is not to force your mind but to liberate it.

So here are 7 ways you can try to stimulate creativity by liberating yourself to think freely.

#1 Break the Routine

Routines are good because they help us do things faster in an organised fashion, but routines can stifle creativity. Like when you go to the same restaurant everyday, don't bother to look at the menu, and order the same thing. If you want to get your mental juices flowing, break out of your routine once in a while. There are a trillion ways to do this.

Go out of your office and bring your laptop to the park. Take a different route to work. Put on your clothes on with a different sequence. Wear a color you don't like. Eat something you've never tasted. Or go on vacation to a place you've never been.

Think of something out of the box or out of your comfort zone. The point is to allow yourself to see things in a different way, to realise possibilities, and to discover something refreshing.

What routines can you break this week? Have fun and creative in breaking them.

#2 Chill Out and Relax Your Brain

Do you keep a small notebook in your pocket? One comes handy when bright ideas pop up during the weirdest times of the day. Don't you just love how they come when you least expect them? When your mind is at ease and your subconscious is free to fly, you are most receptive to creative ideas. Doing things that relax our brain helps our imagination fly.

Feeling stuck up? Listen to good music. Music stimulates the part of our brain in charge of our emotions and creativity. Feeling choked inside your office, take a walk along a river or somewhere where there's water. The view and sound of water is known to having a soothing and relaxing effect.

#3 Exercise and Recreate

Feeling pressured? Play an enjoyable game or go on a 20-minute high intensity workout. Physical activity loosens up our body and our minds as well. There's actually a study that shows a positive correlation between regular exercise and creative performance.

Another great creativity booster is laughter. It is not only the best medicine for sickness, it is also a great prescription for creativity block because it helps get rid of stress, which in turn stifles creativity.

#4 Change Your Perspective

Much creativity and insights can be gained not only from others' creative ideas but also from simple people we meet every day. By looking through other people's eyes, we gain new perspective on things.

When was the last time you had a meaningful chat with a child or an elderly person? Was your attention called to something you would never have noticed in a thousand years? Getting to know people from different walks of life is a treasure chest for inspiration. Have a meaningful conversation with one person per day. Or simply listen to the people you meet along the way, and try to find something you can takeaway from your conversations.

Then there's also social media and the Internet where you can test an idea... get a conversation running... just by posting a mind-boggling question or even a survey as your status, tweet, or blog entry. Or go ask a select few through a closed Facebook group.

And as you go along, try to challenge old ways of thinking. Always keep yourself open to other people's perspective.

#5 Try a Fun Mental Exercise

Imagine you were tasked to lead a sales team to market air-cooling units in Alaska, how will you sell them? Think of something impossible to do and brainstorm how to make that thing possible. Think of as many uses as you can for human hair, or a pencil, a water tumbler, etc. Mental exercises like these train our brains to think out of the box. It is also a great team building activity.

#6 Surround Yourself with Inspiration

Some have a creativity room while others have an inspiration wall. The idea is to collect items and photos of things that inspire you and help stir up your imagination. If you are more auditory than visual, perhaps you can have a creativity playlist that gets your creative juices flowing.
Best of all, surround yourself with people who inspire you. There is something about hanging out with people who are on fire and driven with a passion for life. This is why choosing a mentor (or mentors) is important. Do you listen to tutorial CDs and read books by people who are successful in the field you have chosen? People with similar passions have the power to inspire and get your stirred up, and the wealth of experience this mentor or coach shares can trigger a wealth of ideas and strategies applicable to your journey.

Remember there are countless webinars available for free, and so are "mastery" groups you can join. Find one and get encouragement, inspiration, and lessons from determined people like you who are also serious about pursuing their dreams.

#7 Let It Flow

After you're done preparing for your brainstorming session or whatever it is you need creativity for, the next step is to be candid with your ideas and list them all down. If you think creative geniuses always get it the first time, or the fifth time, you're badly mistaken. The most potent creative sparks come from a long list of ideas that are either too boring or too silly. If you are writing something, start writing freestyle. Don't think of grammar, syntax, artistry, or what have you. Just write anything that flows out of your hand. The secret to finding an explosive idea is a willingness to explore and keep exploring.

There Is Brightness Amid the Fog - Whether a Sunny or Foggy Day You Own the Keys to Your Success!

Clouds during Golden Hour

There is brightness amid the fog, if only in short spurts. Let your glorious profitable, productive, remarkable potential of possibilities forge ahead and prevail, availing your self-imposed light in the fog; even if it hurts; things could be worse. You carry all of the keys to create light, even on your foggiest days!

Fog is just foul air that you scare away; stare the fog down, look it straight in the face and annihilate the foul fog with your analytical defense; a pungent sword. Fog is a metaphor for things that are unclear, or masking clean air that cleanses and invites relief from the pressures of your life events. Realize that fog is passing through, on a cold winter's morning, this too shall pass and you are assured to relax as you submit to the fog. You know yourself better than anybody, and the fog has no power over you!

Reward yourself in the knowledge that the battle has already been won by your innovative ingenuity; your emerging, uplifting uniqueness taking root. Recognize that you are assuming the melodic melody with your own two hands playing a rich, golden flute calling abundance to yourself from many resources and from many lands, by your own ability to find light in any situation, you are a beacon of light! As a beacon of light, decide not to worry in life about anything. Worry never solves or fixes anything and it is wasted effort to worry.

Take solace in the comfort that you have your own light to get you from sunset to a new sunrise; it is in the knowledge of your prior successes that brings back the knowledge of the light that you have hidden inside that always keeps you focused and wise.

Seize your inborn potential; speak to yourself, quietly; make it a daily practice to talk to yourself; walk by yourself, around your neighborhood or a city block- the effects are wonderfully liberating and essential.

You have ALL of the keys within your habits and daily regime to unlock your hidden talents that are also your light and treasures. Your light and ability to change, create, or understand is ample in measure. The focus that brings you the most peace and pleasure is your time alone; honor yourself and all of your endeavors should be as honorable as you!

Sometimes the fog is so dark, our focus misses the small rays of light shinning through, wanting to reveal the source of enlightenment. Although fog is not a welcome visitor, it serves to help us realize that there is brightness around the corner. Changing our focus from the fog in our lives, shifting focus on what is clear versus what is foggy and unclear helps us capture the ample opportunities that will enlighten our attitude and renew or thinking. There is brightness amid the fog, even if only in short spurts, take the opportunity to focus on the light instead of the fog and watch life answers unfold. Choose an opportunity to spread the light of hard work or knowledge to your life, in any measure, and to those people in your universe. Fog is passing through your life, it's up to you to shine as soon as you change your mind and live in the present moment versus living in the past. Know that after the fog has past, you are left with the new light of peace, ease, grace and understanding. There is brightness amid the fog, if you seek light in any situation you will find answers. A change of mindset, attitude, or ability to follow through with an action- plan, or change your actions can lessen the fog in your life. I wish you a bright and sunny life with ample opportunities to shine, like a sunny day in July!

I enjoy learning from you and from others offering me knowledge continuously!

A Case of The "If Onlys"

Woman In Red Jumping

Ever had a case of the "if onlys"? You know, as in; "If only I'd gotten that job," "If only that guy/gal hadn't broken up with me," "If only I hadn't been passed over for that promotion," "If only I'd won the lottery!" "If only I had more talent," and so on.

Unfortunately, once you get started on your "if onlys" you can keep the list going for days. I certainly have. It's like binge-watching Netflix. How do you cry "Halt"?

But here's the thing: the "if onlys" don't get you anything. I mean zip, nada, nothing. Not even the satisfaction of "Whew, that was exhausting but now I'm totally caught up on (insert name of favorite show)." I take it back. They do get you something. They get you to stay stuck in your past and prevent you from seeing, much less acting on, a desirable future.

What do you think would have happened if Chris Norton, who broke his neck playing football for Luther College, at 18 years of age, had accepted the doctors' verdict of having only a 3% chance of ever feeling or moving below his neck? What would have happened if Chris had dwelt on all the "if onlys" of his plight? To name but a few: if only I hadn't played in the game that day. If only I'd chosen to go for basketball or swim team or track instead of football! If only I'd fallen differently on the field. If only I'd just broken my arm or leg instead of my neck. If only I'd been bruised instead of paralyzed.

If Chris had indulged in all those "if onlys" and many more, he would never have done what it took to move his arms and legs again, certainly wouldn't have managed to walk across the stage five years later to receive his college diploma, nor would his next goal have been of walking seven yards down the aisle to marry his sweetheart. He certainly wouldn't have become the motivational speaker he is today, nor the founder of the SCI CAN Foundation, dedicated to raising money for specialized hospital and rehab center equipment for others with spinal cord injuries. All this by the age of 25.

Turn your back on your "if onlys." Leave them where they belong, in the past. What is done, is done, and you can't undo it. What you can do, however, is look to solutions, resolutions and other possibilities, in your present and in your future, just like Chris Norton. We humans are capable of amazing things once we turn our focus and attention to them. So don't waste your precious creativity, your resources, your mind, on lamenting your "if onlys." Face whatever challenges you experience boldly, square on, and conquer them.

How to Cultivate Beginner's Mind

Children Multicolored Hand Paint

"In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, in the expert's mind there are few." ~Suzuki

If you're a perfectionist like me, learning and creating while practicing "beginner's mind" is something you might find challenging. What is "beginner's mind" you ask? Beginner's mind is a concept from Zen Buddhism that encourages the practitioner to cultivate a sense of openness and eagerness. It asks that we let go of prejudgement when engaging in an activity. No matter what your skill level, it is helpful to bring a sense of openness, presence, and childlike curiosity to your creative endeavors.

Despite its name, beginner's mind is not just for beginners. Practicing beginner's mind even when we're "experts" can help invigorate our acting, our creative endeavors, and our everyday lives with a sense of wonder and "nowness." It can help bring us into the present moment.

What are some ways you can begin to apply "beginner's mind" to your creative life?

1) Allow yourself time to transition. Arrive early to a new class you're taking so when you get there you're not in an anxious and harried state. When you arrive, take some quiet time to center and prepare yourself for the experience. This can take many forms. For example, you might find taking a couple of minutes for meditation helpful, or perhaps journaling helps to quiet your mind. Find what works best for you and turn it into a ritual.

2) Breathe. I know it sounds simple, but there's a lot of wisdom in this simple reminder. When you breathe, you relax your body and create more openness. More openness in your body leads to more openness in your mind, your heart, and more openness to the present moment.

3) Have a sense of humor about yourself. Many artists (myself included) have a tendency to take themselves way too seriously. This cuts you off from the enjoyment of learning and also from creativity itself. You can't be fully alive and creative if your inner-voice is prejudging everything before you have a chance to utter the first lines of the monologue, put pen to paper, or wet your paintbrush.

4) Be curious about resistance. If you're feeling anxious about trying something new, ask yourself what is making you uncomfortable. Figure out why you are afraid of committing to the activity. Oftentimes, "This is stupid," actually means "I'm afraid of looking like an ass."

5) Don't be afraid of looking like an ass. As an artist, you have to be willing to risk looking like a fool. This requires some vulnerability on your part. I'm not certain of many things, but I am certain that nothing great was created without vulnerability.

The next time you find yourself in a situation where you're exercising your creativity, notice how you react to it. Do you allow yourself a sense of play and openness? If you do, you are practicing "beginner's mind." If you don't, don't beat yourself up- that only exacerbates the problem! Instead, breathe, take a step back, and remember the above tools. Happy creating everyone!

The Responsibility of a Blessing (By Gini Cunningham)

Every one of us has certain blessings that we have been bequeathed. The source of these is determined by the individual: family inheritance, role model, higher being, or an indeterminate provisionary. Blessings just seem to appear and may be a smile, a sparkling eye, drive and determination, honesty and integrity, and in fact, boundless possibilities. With cultivation blessings develop over time and transform us into better, kinder, and empowered individuals.

I have decided that my blessing is my drive and determination. When I see something I want or that I want done, I jump on the opportunity to bring it to fruition. I may bump into obstacles and naysayers along the way, I may have to alter and adjust course as needs change over time, I may encounter disgruntled discouragement, but when I have a dream, I find it very difficult to let it go. Even if in the end I am the only one basking in the warmth of the dream, I can still call it my success.

Imagine my surprise when sharing this blessing idea with a group of friends to receive a heaping dose of negativity from one member who screamed that her blessing - being a whirlwind of activity - was considered a curse. "I just want to be able to sit down and do nothing!" she screeched. As I pointed out that that wouldn't be her, that her bustle permits accomplishment, she became even more infuriated to the degree that I tried to melt into the background and turn my attention elsewhere. She muttered on as I pondered her face and tone and decided that I guess her blessing, though viewed by me as wonderful, had transformed into a curse in her own mind and that there was no changing her attitude and outlook.

All of this forced me to reflect upon blessings, those special, unique talents we possess and wonder how others perceive themselves and their own talents. Do I look at a dedicated worker and spin positive thoughts but were I to dig deeper would I find a worker who is only laboring because s/he must and that there is no dedication or positivity involved. I suppose I could ask or run a survey but my yelling friend has made me a bit afraid to approach let alone discuss this matter.

But then again, maybe it is time for me to study the characters around me a little more closely, uncover what I believe to be the most blessed part of their being, and then point it out with effusive praise and thanksgiving. Would my positive outpouring produce positive outpouring in return? Now I know it will not work for my above-mentioned friend. To begin with she is not a listener and so she would not hear my words or correctly interpret their intent. So I must more carefully to examine my prospective praise receivers and be ready to turn and run when my positive nature unseats negative reaction.

Think about yourself and your blessings. Do you make the most of them even when after effort and hard work they tire and frustrate you or are you mad at the outset and so anger only accelerates as you spin along with your blessing cum curse? I guess the real question is can you accept who you are and be thankful each moment or are you content to wallow in discontent?

Message From the Universe: Thinking Outside the Box

Photo of Man Jumping On Box

"All deliberate change first comes from denying the logic that most gives you comfort.

The big ticket,
The Universe"

Think OUTSIDE the box. We all seek comfort in things that we are familiar with, such as not pursuing something because it is unknown to us. We fear that unknown, fear of an outcome that we have no ultimate control. We then complacent with what we have and not progress. WE keep doing the same thing over and over again so we avoid surprises. It might be helpful at first but you will eventually get tired of it. The same goes with insanity. You keep doing the same things over again and expecting different results. Doing the same as others will stop you from progressing and be something or someone different. Explore outside of your comfort level.

When looking at different options, you open your mind to different possibilities. What seems logic today might be looking totally illogical in a few days or month from now. Your perception of life will be different as you open your eyes to opportunities. When being stuck in a cocoon, you get familiar with your direct environment and feel no change is needed because of getting used to what is around you. Butterflies break OUT of their cocoon and go explore the world. This is what every humans should do. Explore the unknown. Yes, it is scary, unforgiving at time but if you don't try, you will never know what you are missing out. If you take calculated steps, think before you do anything, listen to that inner voice, focus on your goals and do everything it takes to make things happen and never give up, no matter what.

Message From the Universe: When Your Thoughts Become a Reality

 Woman Looking at Sunset

"Are you so sure it's not the dancer who creates the music she moves to? Or the painter who manifests the mountains he captures? Or the tycoon who builds the empire before there's a dime?

Whatever you want, let it exist first in your mind, imagine every nuance and consideration, let the walls have substance, the halls have depth, and the money have weight in the palm of your hand, and then all that's necessary to bring it to pass will be drawn unto you.

Sneaky, clever, foxy, wry -
The Universe"

Everything in your life will start with a thought that your mind and soul created. If positive in nature, you will feel good about it, inspired and very energetic about the possibilities of it becoming a reality. You work towards making your dreams come true and will stop at nothing to bring them to term. Forget the outside influence as they do not understand your passion for success and relentless pursuit to becoming the best. Life is to short to just follow the crowd and do what others are doing to just be accepted. Forget that approach to life. It is reserved ONLY for the weak minded people. If you are strong, you need to show it to yourself that you will never let yourself get influenced by those who are too scared to take risk and fear that others are courageous enough to follow their dreams and accomplishing great things in life. They are mostly afraid to be left behind with their miserable jobs and not moving towards anything.

Stay away from people like that and whatever you do today, do it for yourself. Don't wait for others approval to move forward or taking action. No one is concerned with your welfare or wishes you success. Everyone focuses on themselves and their own success so they do not have time to focus on yours. So when it comes to sharing your life on social media, think twice before spilling out the beans by posting everything about your life, including your dreams and goals. You will ONLY attract negativity coming your way and you don't need that at the beginning stage of your venture. Keep the important things to yourself and only share the crap on social media that would have NO impact in your life.

Keeping Positive

Thinking positive is a mental and emotional attitude that focuses on the happy and good side of life, and in turn attracts positive results. A positive person anticipates happiness, health and success, and believes that it can be achieved!

"If you believe you can, you are half way there."

It is important to adopt the attitude of positive thinking in everything that you do. As they say "practice makes perfect", so the more you do it, the easier it becomes, and eventually it will be a way of life. After all life is short and you only get one chance at it, so why not make it a happy and worthwhile experience?

"Happiness is not ready-made... its comes from your own actions" - Dalai Lama

Keeping it positive creates real value in your life, which can have an impact on your work, health and life in general.

Negative emotions narrow your mind and focus your thoughts on the negative. Your mind becomes closed to possibility thinking.

Positive emotions broaden your sense of possibilities and opens your mind. If you start to adopt the attitude that everything in life is possible, you will discover that there will be more positive things happening in your life.

Life becomes a lot easier if you approach it with a happy and positive outlook. I'm not saying that everyday is going to be filled with sunshine because that would be unrealistic.

What I am saying is that when you are faced with obstacles and/or hardship, try to look at the problem with an open mind. Look for the positive way of solving it rather than get caught up in negative thoughts.

Positive emotions allow you to discover and build new skills and resources that can provide value and have a great impact in other areas of your life eg: your health, job, relationships.

Negative emotions have the opposite effect, because they take control and so your brain only focuses on the negative thought/ feeling. This results in you placing your attention on what could go wrong, thereby limiting the other possible options around you.

Negative thinking restricts you completely and can have a lasting damaging effect on your life in general. "Consider negativity as a poison... to be avoided!"

You need to learn to think positively and to increase positive emotions. Start by doing things that bring you happiness, contentment and love, eg: make time for a hobby, play the piano, gardening or spending time with that special person.

To change your mindset from negative to positive is not something that happens overnight... like most habits, you need to work on it. Every day you have to make a conscious effort to be positive until it becomes a part of your every day living. You need to condition your mind towards positive thinking.

Here are some tips on how to increase positive thinking in your life:

1. Make a conscious decision to be positive.

2. Speak in a positive way, using positive words.

3. When you find yourself thinking negative thoughts, endeavour to replace them with positive ones. You will probably have to persevere with this one to eventually teach your mind to think positively and to ignore the negative thoughts.

4. Always expect good and favourable results - a positive outlook is more likely to yield a positive outcome.

5. Use affirmations, positive statements repeated to describe a desired situation or goal, until they are impressed on the subconscious.

Believe you can and you are half way there.

Remember that you are the only person who thinks in your mind. You can choose to look at the good in things or the bad, you are the power and authority in your world. The decision to be happy lies within you.

How To Get What You Want With Three Words (By Pam Bauer)

A friend of mine got married last month. As her wedding approached, the question of what to wear loomed large. She didn't want to wear a traditional wedding dress.

A few weeks before the wedding, she went shopping with some friends. They tried bridal boutiques and department stores but she came home empty-handed. Her friends vetoed the dresses she chose; she disliked the dresses they selected.

She was disappointed and frustrated. She doesn't like shopping and didn't have time to traipse all over the city. She dreaded continuing the search.

I wanted to help, but I live 1,000 miles away. What could I do? I asked her this question: What three words describe how you want to feel in your dress on your wedding day?

She paused, then spoke: Comfortable. Elegant. Celebratory.

Ah-ha! That's the dress she's looking for: the dress that feels comfortable, elegant and celebratory. With these three words in mind, she went back to a store she'd visited on her shopping trip and purchased a dress she'd tried on but left behind.

I wasn't surprised. When she was shopping with her well-meaning friends, their ideas of what a wedding dress should look like overwhelmed her own wisdom about what she wanted.

That's the power of three words. They get to the heart of what you wish for and become a GPS to help you navigate the bewildering possibilities in order to find the best option for you.

The key to success with three words is asking yourself how you'll feel when you have what you desire. No matter what it is we want, what we really want is the feeling that the desired result will generate.

Rather than the thing itself, it's the experience of the thing that we seek.

By tapping into those feelings in advance, articulating words to describe them and using the words to guide your choices, you tune out distracting noise (others' opinions, social media trends, companies with gigantic advertising budgets) and avoid buyer's remorse (when what you thought you wanted ends up disappointing).

It's a simple, yet powerful, method to lead you toward fulfilling your dreams.

Want to apply the three words strategy to your life? Here's how:

  1. Think of something you want. This can be something you want to acquire (like my friend's wedding dress) or it can be a goal (like a new year's resolution).
  2. Imagine the result. What would your life be like if you achieved this? Let you mind fill in as many details as possible of the experience.
  3. Generate your three words. What does your imagined result feel like?
  4. Look around. What people, places, things, events, or activities can be described by your words? Go forth and bring them into your life.

Let your three words be your guide. They may take you in a direction you didn't expect but it's going to be toward a more fulfilling and satisfying life.

Let's Change The World

Woman Wearing Pink Floral Sleeveless Romper Sitting on Gray Concrete Holding Earth Globe
The world is changing and the speed of changes is increasing every day. With the enormous flow of information and spread of knowledge is changing our society and our lives in an amazing way. Governments and organizations can no longer thrive in secrecy. Today everything is visible and everything can come to the light of day.

In today's society we have more opportunities and possibilities than ever before and our presence, knowledge and influences can have such an amazing impact on the world. Today we can share our knowledge and experience in so many ways. We can easily share it on social media, through status updates, articles, videos and more. We can so easily start a blog, a website, have newsletters and webinars to educate the world.

We can all become a role model for others and having a role model is very important. Having a role model, guide or a mentor that can show us the way to learn new things, how to improve our lives and how to become all that we could ever want to become. Success lies in education, learning new ways to be and do things. Some traditions are good but some are old and outdated. We often need to learn a new way to think to be able to grow into the person we want to be.

We all have the power to change and we all have the power to make an enormous impact on the world. Becoming a good role model and helping others achieve their dreams, helping others make their desire become a reality is something we should all strive for. We all have some unique experience that can help others see a new possibility.

Teamwork is the key to a better society and a better world. When we have found our speciality we should do our best to share what we have, what we have learned from life. There are people who are looking for information and knowledge that can help them take life to the next level. They are searching for something but often do not know exactly what they are looking for.

If we are visible, if we go out there and tell the world what we have to offer, someone, somewhere will tune into what we have. There have been great leaders that have changed and created a new vision for the world. They have impacted and improved the lives of so many just by speaking their truth.

The old Greek philosophers like Socrates, Plato and Aristotle that are still remembered and talked about today had something new to offer. In my childhood I looked up to people like Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Dalai Lama. The life and inventions of Nikola Tesla inspired me more than even I can imagine. They shaped me and affected me in so many ways. In more modern times I have gotten influence from Jim Rohn, Toni Robbins, Darren Hardy and other great speakers. We have Gary Vaynerchuk, a great leader who is sharing so much knowledge and helping people realise their own power.

They were all regular people like you and me. Still they believed and believe in something bigger. Their vision was so strong and there would be nothing that would stop them from speaking the truth. Galileo stated that the world was round and not flat, he could have withdrawn his claims to save his life but chose death instead. Speaking the truth may not always be popular but we need to speak the truth and we need to seek the truth. Some truths may not always be what we want to hear but the truth is always the best information we get for the long term.

For us who have found the truth or a truth, it does not matter how many people listen or believe what we are saying but we need to stay true to who we are and our vision of the world as we are all different individuals, there is someone out there who is looking for exactly what we are sharing.

We all have the power to improve and change the world. Many of us have been silenced and taught to obey, to speak and do what we were taught to speak and do. We all have our unique talents and vision. We all have something extraordinary to share with the world.

The question may arise that the world would become very loud if everybody would start sharing their own truth but that is and will not be the case. We know that as we are different individuals, there are leaders and there are followers. I am urging all humankind to follow their own truth and stay true to who they are but there will only be a certain few who will rise up in public to share the knowledge they have found.

We should support and urge the leaders in our midst to stand up and teach, preach. Then we have the followers who share their passion and will learn and apply it to their lives. The followers in their turn will lead a life that will impact the ones they are closest to. The leaders will create big ripples and the followers will create smaller ripples but every ripple is important.

We can see this as the world in whole. First we have our beautiful earth, then we have our continents. We have many countries in every continent and in every country we have many cities and towns. Some people will have the big role and their audience is maybe millions of people. Some have hundreds of thousands, some have tens of thousands, some have hundreds and some have a dozen.

We all have the power to impact the world in a positive way, we should all share the information we have gathered, share the knowledge we have learned to help others improve their way of life. Nothing is impossible and we are all extraordinary. As Dalai Lama said once "If you think you are too small to make an impact, try sleeping in a tent while there is a mosquito in there".

We should all rise to the occasion and be apart of this global change and help make the world a better place through teamwork.

Take care my beautiful friends and I am looking forward to hearing from you speaking and living in a way that has a positive impact on others.

Message From the Universe: Limitless Possibilities!

"Often you don't know what you can do until you do it; what you can be until you become it; or what you can have until you have it.

But hey, that never stopped you before!

Arriba, arriba, ándale, ándale -
The Universe"

So why not wanting it all, be it all and can do it all? If your thoughts can dictate and bring these kinds of results, why even considering thinking negative? This is why you have so many great potential out there to be more than they can ever envision their life to be but are not where they are because of their thoughts. So many obstacles they personally create in their mind, so many excuses they give themselves as to why things are not done.Excuses are for losers too scared to accomplish anything they want because it is easier to give excuses than figuring out how to complete the task. Who doesn't want an easy life right? I am sure you do. However, the easy path isn't always the happiest one. By walking it, you lose motivation because nothing is challenging anymore. Nothing gets you to wake up every morning and look forward to tackle life with enthusiasm. You no longer feel you need to achieve anything anymore as everything is given to you. Life ends at this point, maybe not physically speaking, but mentally and spiritually.

However, when you confront fear, hurdles, challenges, difficulties and you figure out ways to finding solutions, your mind keeps active, which in return, gives you the self esteem needed to pursue all your dreams and goals. You no longer are afraid of anything and you do everything in your power to look for more creative ways to grow and prosper. More opportunities open up because of your many qualities and you find more ways to give back to society, because you learned how to pay it forward. Life is all about paying it forward as you are giving back what life gave you in the first place, opportunities. Life chose YOU to create a difference that others do not have the intelligence or capability to do. Because of that, you need to feel extra special knowing how much value life gives you particularly. When you do accomplish all your goals, always remember your roots, and where you came from and how hard you worked to get to where you are today. Never forget that part and always allow yourself to sit for a minute, looking out from your penthouse, and be proud of all your accomplishments.
