Speak Your Truth When It Scares You Because It Is The One True Measure Of Your Authenticity

Why bother speaking the truth in a world full of fake news? Because truth is the only measure of our authenticity expressed through our soul. To deny expressing it means hiding our authentic self behind a veil of falsehoods. Reflect on the times when you spoke your truth even if it hurt those you love. How did you feel? Did you notice a weight lifted off your shoulder, especially if you held back communicating something of importance? I have been in this situation many times where I thought speaking my truth would fall on deaf ears. I believed they would not receive it in the way I intended and so I held back.

Sometimes people are not ready to hear the truth and, although they listen, they're only hearing what they want to hear. Do you get this impression? It can be difficult because your truth and my truth differs, and this causes conflict between two people, even amongst family members. I often laugh when someone begins a sentence by saying: "Do you want to know the truth?" What I'm really hearing is: "I'm about to tell you something which you'll disagree with but here it is anyway." The truth is subjective to our life's experience, beliefs, values and opinions. It is why I am drawn to the passage by the author of Toltec wisdom Don Miguel Ruiz who writes in The Three Questions: How to Discover and Master the Power Within You of the enduring nature of the truth in our lives: "Life is truth, and it doesn't need to be understood. Truth doesn't need proof, or even faith, to survive. And it doesn't need our stories. Truth existed before stories before humanity; and truth will continue after all the storytellers are gone. We don't need a thought or a theory to show us the truth. Truth can be felt in our loving and in our enduring passion to live."

We mustn't withhold speaking our truth for fear it will upset others. If the truth is spoken from the heart and not the egoic mind, hopefully the other person will consider it with an open mind and heart. In an age of fake news, the truth is more important than ever. More people need to speak their truth from the heart for that is how we practice authentic communication. The heart is the seat of the soul and if aligned with our highest intent, it becomes a measure of connecting through a soulful presence. Is this something you're willing to practice? Even though your voice will tremble when you speak the truth, it will be worth it coming from the heart. I have experienced holding back speaking my truth in front of audiences due to limiting thoughts: "How will people receive what I have to say?" "What if I disappoint them?" Nevertheless, I've come to appreciate how others receive me is not within my control. I can only communicate from my heart and remove any sense of fear, anger or hate and allow my words to come forth with love.

Our truth is the language of the soul and carries strength in its meaning and significance. I'm reminded of the biblical phrase: "The truth will set you free" which underscores how withholding our truth can destroy us. Communicating from the heart will lead to our greatest salvation and the freedom that accompanies it. As you read this, reflect on a situation now calling you to speak from the heart yet you may be afraid to do so. I trust by the end of the article you will have gained a sense of what action you need to take. I hope you choose your words wisely and listen to the whisper of your heart speaking in the song of love, not anger, nor hate or fear.

If we communicate through weakening emotions, we must turn our attention to ourselves to see where we are at war with. What part of us is calling to be nurtured? Because that is the part we most need to love. In doing so, the words we bring forth will arise from a place of spirited love and we needn't worry whether speaking our truth will offend others. For when two people come together in this spirit of love, the language communicated is easily understood by their hearts without an agenda.

Are Your Dreams Trying to Tell You Something?

Dreams are so interesting! And, I think that most of us have dreams, even if we don't always remember them. But, if you ask them, it has been my experience that most people can remember at least one dream that they had that really stood out. That they can recall details from at least one dream that was not only vivid, but also seemed to have a message or was trying to tell us something.

Part of the reason that dreams are so darn interesting is because they are little insights and can even act as a portal directly into our unconscious mind, or subconscious mind. Which, in my opinion, is the inner part of us where our true self, or authentic self lives. This is where the real us is, which is the part of us that knows what our hopes and our dreams are, and our deepest fears too. Some people call this part of our mind the "Authentic Self" or true self. I believe that this is also where our soul lives, the part of us that is eternal and reincarnates over many lifetimes.

So, even if we don't know something such as a fear or hope or worry consciously, unconsciously they exist underneath. And so, our dreams are little messages directly from our unconscious mind. And, in my opinion, they are trying to tell us something.

Dreams can contain elements of your past, both from your childhood as well as your past lives. People can have dreams that seem to be in a different time period, or in a different place, or maybe they look different in the dream. Or maybe they were a different gender, or a different ethnicity in their dream. It is also common to see people in dreams that maybe you don't recognize from this life, or that it will seem to be in another time or another place.

It is very common for people to experience past lives that come up in a dream.

And sometimes your dream is about the present, meaning the things that you are scared of or worried about right now. These are the anxiety dreams that feature the things that you are fearful of or worried about, even if you don't know you are worried about them. This can also include the things you hope happen, such as your dreams for the future, in the right now.

It's also possible to experience the future in a dream, or rather the possible or even probable future. This is because the future isn't determined, as we are actively creating the future as we go along, with our own choices. So, it's possible to see something that is a potential future in your dream. I've had people tell me that they have experienced something like a déjà vu sensation, a feeling that they have been there before, one of those strange synchronistic moments, that they later realized was something that they had seen before, in a dream. And so, it is possible to experience the past, the present, and the possible future in your dreams.

In my opinion, there are several ways that you can tell if your dream has a specific message and is trying to tell you something.

#1- it seems to be memorable.

You wake up and you remember it, it seems fresh. It also was vivid and there were details. So, if you remember a dream and it seems to be vivid, or if you remember the same dream often and it is incredibly memorable, that might mean there is a message attached to it or something that dream is trying to tell you.

#2- it's emotional.

If you feel a lot of emotion in your dreams, or if it feels very emotional, it might mean that your dream has a message for you. Perhaps your dreams feel fearful, scary, or sad. Or maybe it felt happy. But, generally if a dream has a strong emotion attached to it, it means that there is something coming up from your unconscious that is connected to an emotion that you feel and is trying to tell you something.

#3- it repeats or is recurring.

The third way that you can tell if your dream is trying to tell you something is if it repeats, or recurs, or comes up often. That usually means that there is a message or that your dream is trying to tell you something.

Now, dreams are difficult because the language of dreams is usually that of symbolism. There are dream dictionaries and encyclopedias out there and lots of resources available to look up what your dreams might mean, but in my opinion, at the end of the day the only person that can translate your dream is YOU. This is because the symbolism that comes up in your dreams is specifically yours, or tied to you. They are your symbols, the way that you see them. For example, you might see clouds in your dream and have a really positive association with them from your childhood, maybe connected with a memory of looking at the clouds with your father, being happy, it was a peaceful moment. And so, if you see clouds in your dream, you might associate that with feeling peaceful, feeling loved, or nourished by a relationship. Or, if you remember being terrified on a plane the first time you flew, and looking out the window and seeing clouds and feeling unsupported or unsafe, if you then see clouds in your dream it might be more connected to those types of emotions. So, although dream guides can be helpful, I think that it is you and only you that can truly translate a dream.

So, once you take all of these elements into account, you can start to break it down. Take your journal out, write it down and start to track your dreams. And start to look at them as messages, that your dreams are you trying to tell you something. And that the inner you or unconscious you is trying to tell the conscious mind you something and get your attention somehow. And, since our conscious mind is often mostly asleep, as we go through the motions of life, it is our dreams that put us in touch with that rich, inner self. It helps us find our authentic self.

So, if you start to look at your dreams as a message, from you or your inner self, then it starts to take on more meaning and then you can start to unravel what your dreams might mean for you.

Clarity First, Then Manifest

Have you ever tried to manifest something and thought that you hadn't been successful? You know you worked your magic to the best of your ability. You were certain that the Universe was hearing your desire, and that all the right energies were lining up perfectly for you. So you waited, and waited, and waited, and finally decided that perhaps you had missed something, somewhere along the line!

That happened to me recently. I was convinced that what I had been trying to manifest for the past year or so was not going to happen. Either I was wrong in thinking that what I was trying to manifest was in alignment with my authentic self, or that there was some further tweaking that I needed to do in order to get my manifesting technique right, or there was some kind of block there.

So I decided to go back and look over some of the scripting I had done recently, like about two or three months ago when I was really focused on scripting this outcome.

Now for me, a lot of the scripting I have done, and continue to do, is more like automatic writing, or channeled writing. I tend not to be aware of what I am scripting unless I go back and re-read what I have written. And when I recently went back and re-read what I had written, there it was!

I had been trying to manifest some success in my coaching business, some new one-on-one clients. Nothing wrong with that, or so I thought.

What I had actually scripted for was for the time I needed to write the book and create the program that I know I have to create. Again, sounds good. Except, that the company that I had worked for, for the past ten years recently decided to eliminate my position - a cost saving measure on their part, all very rational and reasonable. This decision was made about two months ago - right around the time that I had started scripting about wanting time to write. My severance pay will cover my expenses for the next several months giving me plenty of time to write my book and create my program and attract some clients, so I ended up getting exactly what I had been scripting that I wanted to manifest. Exactly what I had wanted! As soon as I started scripting about it!

Which is so scary! Because I thought I had been trying to manifest more one-on-one clients! That I could work with, while I maintained my day job.

Moral of the story here is: if what you have been trying to manifest doesn't seem to be appearing in your life, go back and check to make sure that what you are manifesting is, in fact, what you thought you had actually been asking for!

Oh, and the second moral of this little story is: be careful of what you are trying to manifest because it will come true!

Now, I'm off to try to manifest some one-on-one clients - at least that's what I hope I'm manifesting!

How To Silence The Haters & Start Listening To Your Authentic Self

The desire to be more than what other people tell us we can be — there's something so vital about embracing what we might do or be if we could just drown out the voices and opinions of other people. Truth feels like freedom. If you want more freedom in your life, or wonder what you might do or be if you could follow your own intuition, then keep reading ...
This is a question I get asked a lot: "I want to live the life that's right for me, but I have a hard time drowning out other people's voices. How can I know what's right for me?"
When I quit my magazine editing job I heard a lot of voices saying that I was crazy. "You've spent so much time and money on preparing for this. You're crazy to give up all those perks. You'll go broke." Over and over again, these voices continued to say the same things.
But all of those voices were in my head.
We have this tendency when we're beginning to follow our calling, to spend a lot of time imagining what other people will think or how our choices will impact them.
That part of us is a part we can call our "social self." The social self loves to please and appease. It's thrilled when other people are happy with us ... but it's not so good at helping us be happy with us.
On the flip side, our "essential self" is very good at helping us do what's right for us. It's the part of us that knows what we love, what lights us up, and even how to get us there.
The trick to knowing what's right for YOU, is to know which part of YOU that you're listening to.
Start to identify what part of you is running the show at the moment, and you'll start to live more from your essential self — the part of you that knows what's right for you.
When your social self is more dominant than your essential self:
  • Your life feels more like a grind than a great adventure.
  • You are stressed and angry more than you are laughing.
  • You feel misunderstood more often than you feel understood.
  • You find it very difficult to concentrate on what you do, most of the time.
  • You rarely do the things you loved to do when you were a kid.
When your essential self is more dominant than your social self:
  • Your life feels like a great adventure.
  • You laugh often.
  • You often feel understood.
  • You find it easy to concentrate on what you do, most of the time.
  • You often do things you loved to do as a kid.
If you find that your social self is more dominant, then in each moment when you feel stressed or angry, ask yourself this question: "Is it true that I have to do this thing that's causing me anger or stress, or do I just believe I have to?" Then in each moment where you feel misunderstood, ask yourself this question: "Is it true that this person doesn't understand me, or am I not letting them see me for who I really am?" And in each moment where you aren't doing the things you loved to do as a kid, then ask yourself this: "If I knew that activity would enable me to become stronger, more powerful, and create a life more in line with what's right for me (and have fun while I'm doing it!), would I do it?"
Let me share something with you ... each person who says "yes" to their essential self and begins to strengthen that part of them, begins to know what's right for them. That's when they can powerfully transform their trajectory — and even their destiny.
