COMMITMENT! The Gateway To Happiness (By William Peak)

When I was young, I figured happiness was something you were born with... you either had the gene or you didn't. It seemed that those who were blessed with the gift could somehow find joy in most everything they did, while others, who believed they weren't so lucky, slowly learned to quit looking, thus fulfilling their own self-prophecy.

I believe it was somewhere in my late teens when I finally realized this feeling- sorry-for-myself-attitude was putting me on a fast track to nowhere. I was not only tired of missing out on the good things in life, but I was also blaming circumstances and others for my lack of willingness to face the real problem... the fella in the mirror.

So... I decided to quit brooding and take matters into my own hands. And by the way, this one step, in and of itself, was enough to awaken the sleeping giant within... Good Morning!

This was the first time in my life I sensed joy flowing from the inside out, rather than from the outside in... an epiphany of empowerment!

From that moment on, I redirected my entire way of thinking. I stopped relying on outside circumstances, others, and dumb luck for my rations of joy, and began cultivating my own from within... and believe me, I was COMMITTED!

COMMITMENT! Now there's one powerful word! I found that if used with purpose... I mean only when you're flat out serious... and given the respect and discipline it demands, it delivers every time.

You see, I had finally discovered that metaphorical gene I was lacking... COMMITMENT! And the moment I did, my entire paradigm shifted from just letting things happen to purposefully making things happen.

• Negative / Positive

• Hitting the snooze button / Watching the sun rise

• Crying in my beer / Toasting an accomplishment

• Smooth hands and a dream / Calluses on my fingers tips and a tuned guitar

• A blank page / A rough draft

• Spectating / Participating

• Letting it happen / Making it happen

• A smoke break / A walk in the park

• Head in the sand / Bleeding and swinging

• Fearing the bees / Smelling the roses

• Sad / happy

We live in a world where instant gratification is marketed and sold almost like a narcotic. Though its promise is intoxicating, its deceit is devastating.

For far too many, this lust for a quick fix supersedes the discipline for fulfillment... COMMITMENT.

Discipline... I tried my hardest not to use that word in the above statement... it intimidates so many. Just the thought of it conjures this vision of an endless, hellish maze keeping them from what they want... one which they could never possibly maneuver through.

Okay I admit, it is a bit of a hellish maze... but contrary to popular belief, it's not endless. It's not even that intense once you start negotiating it. Believe me, if it were, I wouldn't be here writing about it.

Though it is true... COMMITMENT cannot exist without discipline. The lasting joy it delivers far outweighs its sting. Just a little faith is all you need.

Think of it this way. When you commit to set sail for something you want, there's a window of time, in the very beginning of your journey, which requires blind faith. This period will last until you start actually feeling the joy from that which you are seeking. Your hardest job is to get to this point.

As you keep moving forward, inspired by your new found joy, a wonderful transformation begins to take place... your joy blossoms as your blind faith withers. If what you were seeking proves to be everything you imagined, it will become your new way of life.

Now, simply replace the phrase blind faith with the word discipline.

Here's an honest to goodness real life example:

When I committed to getting into shape, there was a period of about three months where I had to rely on this blind faith to get me to the gym for a 30 minute workout, three days a week. Believe me, it was difficult, but I actually got through it.

Three months later I began feeling better and getting stronger, which motivated me to keep going. During the next three months that transformation I was talking about gradually took place. It got to the point where leaving the gym after a workout equated to feeling like a new person. I often walked in tired and left full of energy which would last for hours into the evening. Keeping it up at this point was a no brainer. Today, 35 years later, I'm still addicted. Wild horses couldn't drag me away.

Total benefit: 35 years of optimum health and energy, with no end in sight.

Total amount of discipline invested: six measly months.

Now, replace getting into shape with anything else your heart desires. As far as I'm concerned, your imagination is your only limitation.

One more time... I can't overstate this. COMMITMENT cannot exist without discipline.

I've been accused of being way too simplistic and even judgmental at times with my way of thinking. I actually believe everything hinges on personal COMMITMENT... your happiness, your success, your opportunities, and yes... even your luck.

Tell me honestly... If you don't make it happen... who will?

This is where that little voice in my head is whispering... Bill, you may want to back off a little here. I figure if you've read this far, you may want to hear my entire take on the subject. So... little voice... shut the hell up!

Here's the way I see it, and believe me, what I say here is purely out of love. If it's true, that the lack of personal commitment is the only thing keeping you from being happy, well then, that means if you're miserable... it's your own damn fault.

Bill... how can you say that? You're a heartless slob. Maybe life has just been easy for you!

Here's a little gray hair philosophy... in my case, make that a little no hair philosophy:

Living life doesn't necessarily make you wise, but it will most certainly give you many unique opportunities to witness those who are. How you process that information... well, that's up to you.

For me, I have found it fascinating over the years, watching friends and associates from all walks of life, ranging from high school dropouts to CEO's of major corporations, negotiate their way through their personal circumstances.

What has been most eye opening and beneficial to me is observing those who have had the highest mountains to climb, complaining less and enjoying the journey more than many of the ones who have had the greenest meadows to stroll.

I have learned the seeds of happiness are abundant... they lay dormant everywhere we turn. For the ones who have taken the time necessary to learn how to cultivate its fruit, they are driven, merely by the possibility of getting just a taste of its sweet nectar.

While, on the other hand, others who have never taken the time to sow a single seed are left scratching their heads, wondering why there is never a harvest.

Nothing saddens me more than to see someone who is truly unhappy, and hasn't a clue of how to be happy. It's an unbelievably helpless feeling for me because, you see, I'm a fix-it guy, and happiness is the one thing you just can't fix for others, no matter how hard you try... not even for the ones you love. That's the bad news.

The good news is... there is a cure. Personal COMMITMENT.

You see... the $25,000 question never really has ever been... how can I be happy? No, the real question is, and always will be... is it worth the personal COMMITMENT?

You better believe it is.

Steps to Develop More Discipline

At some point in life, every person will feel the effects of a lack of self-discipline. It is a challenging goal to conquer, but anyone can develop more discipline. There will be set-backs along the way, but establishing good self-discipline is an important step for your personal development.

1. You are human

Don't forget that you are a human being. You will make mistakes, it is only natural. People start learning by trial and error in infancy-adult learning is often no different. The goal here is to learn from your mistakes and not keep repeating the same error time and time again. If you mess up one day, don't give up and don't beat yourself up. Just start fresh the next day.

2. Set attainable goals

Nothing kills a plan faster feeling like it's impossible to get anywhere. It's not conducive to your personal development to set the bar too high at first. If you currently don't exercise at all, a goal of walking three times a week is a nice, attainable goal. You are not going to go from being sedentary to running marathons overnight. Remember to keep your goals in check with your abilities. If you set the bar too high at first, you will burn out and give up. Set yourself up for success by keeping your goals within your abilities.

3. Reward yourself

When you reach a goal, go ahead and reward yourself. If you walk three times this week, allow yourself to splurge on a night out with friends. When goal achievement goes unrewarded, we have a tendency to stop moving forward. Everybody needs to feel like they got a "win" sometimes. When you attain a goal, reward yourself. You are worth it.

4. Use your time effectively

Time is a precious commodity-treat it as such. When you get wrapped up in a task, you sacrifice time elsewhere. Creating a schedule for your day can help to eliminate situations where you feel like you worked all day, yet accomplished nothing.

5. Schedule fun time

Often we get so wrapped up in everything we have to do that we forget about doing what we want to do. The stress of everyday life can feel crushing some days. It is so important to schedule time in your day for something you enjoy. Without this release, you are setting yourself up to burn out. Burn out can kill any self-discipline progress you have made. Scheduling a few minutes each day for enjoyable activities is not only fun, it's essential to your mental health.

With these simple steps even the most disorganized person can achieve some self-discipline. Take charge of your life today!

Learn How Positive Thinking Can Turn Your Mind Into An Unstoppable, Creative Force

Brene Brown said the following statement, and I quote, "Creativity is the way I share my soul with the world." Close quote. Bob Ross shared his creativity and imagination through the stroke of a brush and revealed to the world what he was thinking in his mind. Stephen King did not become a prolific author until he wrote down the words and stories that still frighten us today. So, what about you? What is holding you back from sharing your dreams and creativity with the rest of the world? Somewhere, in the dark recesses of your mind is a room that has not been lit; what are you waiting for? Are you going to flip on the light switch or leave your creativity sitting in darkness? For those who are reluctant to share their dreams and turn them into a reality, I will take you by the hand and walk you down the paths of self-development so that you can know how positive thinking can turn your mind into an unstoppable, creative force.

Discipline

The brain and the mind are 2 separate, distinct entities; the brain is a gray-colored organ that is filled with neurons, tissue, blood vessels, and is the main center for all our body functions and movements. The mind is where our conscience (the little voice in our head), dreams, visions, and creativity is located. The reason discipline is at the top of the list is because the mind is where it all begins; the willpower and determination. The mind is always active 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Learning how to discipline your mind is the key to your success and well-being. The mind likes to wander or get distracted easily; the way you can prevent your mind from wandering is by focusing your attention on the task at hand. Prioritize the items that need to get done first, then turn all your attention to your skill, craft, or changing a personal habit.

Action

Creativity will remain dead in your mind unless you take action to make your dreams come true. Once you have figured out what it will take to discipline your mind, get to work on your self-development plan. Stopping a bad habit is not an easy task to overcome, so you must get creative on how you can change your life, after all, happiness is a goal that we all wish to achieve. Think of the freedom that you will get when you are free from that little master (addiction) or feel the financial burden, lifted from your shoulders when you let your creativity out of your mind.

Passion

I love to write articles, there are so many words and ideas that are floating around in my head that I am constantly typing them on my computer or iPhone. I love to share my ideas with people around the world so that I can help them find answers to their problems. For you, the reader, if your self-development plan is all about improving your article writing skills, be sure to include that you will have a positive attitude when you are typing your article. People can always tell when you have a negative attitude from the articles you write.

Addiction is a problem that causes most marriages to end in divorce. For the person, who is trapped by some form of addiction, I want you to ask yourself this question,"Whom do you love most? Your family or that substance which does not love back?" If you have that love and passion for your family and want to make them happy, then you must get creative and find a way to rebuild your marital or family relationship. Positive thinking will help you overcome any addiction you have.

Discover

Human beings are inventors, adventurers, and pioneers; starting today, you can start down the path to personal greatness by flipping on that light switch and bring your creativity into the light. You may have discovered a new parenting tip on how to teach your children to behave or a new method of how to overcome any addiction. All it takes is to open that notebook and unleash your creativity.

In conclusion, I hope that you have learned how positive thinking can turn your mind into an unstoppable, creative force. Please, feel to share your comments on self-development.

How To Change Yourself In Positive Ways

To change yourself in positive ways is not an easy feat but rather a hard one. In other words, most of us are weak, overwhelmed or even pathetic when it comes to making changes. But the makeover is possible. It is when you struggle with the fact that it is no longer acceptable, that you are ready for it.
Is there a change you tried to make but have not succeeded? Why people, in general, experience extreme difficulty when trying to change a single habit? What changes should you start with?

It is not an easy question. Making or creating a 'different' you can be tremendously challenging. But if think your life is currently on the wrong path, or not where you want to be, then a radical amount of constructive change in positive ways might be the best thing.

So, to change yourself requires a lot of discipline, but also knowing what your 'ideal self' looks like and recognizing your current weaknesses. It is usually a time when you take a hard look at the truth and realize that enough is enough. That is why it is uncomfortable for many people to make a change.

Beginning to Change Yourself
No one ever said it was going to be easy! To reach your ideal, you need to find role models who will help guide you along the way. If mentors are absent, read books about people you admire and begin to copy their habits. To change yourself, you need to have short and long-term goals.

In my life, there are so many changes I have gone through. And no matter if the change was small or big, each time was of importance. Studies show that to change a habit takes around 21 days, so three weeks. Yet, I had habits that took months or years to change as they were ingrained more in-depth into my unconscious.

Therefore, realize that you might be different. It may be easier or harder depending on the change or habit. You have to figure out what works for you. With that said, if you want to make a difference and develop different and new habits, start first by believing you can.

Nuts and Bolts of New Ways
I wrote several times about how to change, replace old habits, or develop new habits in positive ways, but here are the nuts and bolts:

  • Create a 30 or 90-day challenge for yourself, and focus on how to change just one habit at the time.
  • Put it out on paper, and add the obstacles and strategies you might have to overcome them.
  • Make an end goal by writing down your outcome.
  • Make it a big picture goal but divide it into multiple parts with smaller goals to achieve.
  • Put the written goal somewhere where you can see every day.
  • Commit fully and go full in.
  • Log your progress and report on it each week.
  • Relax and realize it is okay when you weaken as it happens to everyone.
  • If you fail, understand what went wrong but do not dwell on it. And then try again to change.
  • Reward every little success you make or get.

How to Change Yourself in Positive Ways
Learn from the best when it comes to transforming yourself in a different you. Again, find people who truly embody the person you want to be. Use and imitate various qualities or habits you respect from different persons to make a change.
But you have to develop positive ways of thinking. It is the first essential key to help you replace, build, and form any other habit or change you have in mind. Of course, positive thoughts alone will not lead to straight to success. On the other hand, it certainly assists you in pushing you to do the things required to succeed.

So, if you allow yourself to have negative thinking, you always end up failing. You have to think positive thoughts instead; it will give you a higher chance of success. It could be invaluable to you! Practice positive thinking again and again, until you can change and form just about any habit you need.

Exercising is Part of Change

Yes, exercise is healthy and all that, and it is also a part of any change. But how does it change your habits? Well, I walk two hours a day, every day. I am a sportsman by nature, but the last year I have done less exercise, and I got a thrombosis from being too many hours in front of my computer.

In fact, exercise makes you feel better about yourself. It clears your mind and makes you more confident. Workouts lead to a right mindset, constructive change, and better success. And you need to think in positive ways to endure exercise.

As a result, it relieves stress and gives you time to think. It then leads to better mental well-being in your life overall and helps with creativity. A friend of mine, Jonathan Dewaele is a great teacher when it comes to health and fitness.

Change by Taking Baby Steps
The key to change is making baby steps to imprint a new habit into the subconscious. Every goal or change you make should be a step toward your desired outcome. Small changes or goals should be tangible, but do not be afraid to have a big crazy goal.

Then, focus on only one small change. When you focus on one habit or goal at a time, it is more efficient. It is a powerful way of achieving your goals or changes for that matter. Focus and energy are the two vital ingredients for making a necessary change or the desired objective.

Therefore, pick one of the habits to focus on first. Break it into smaller aims and choose an action you can do today. Keep doing it every day until your goal is accomplished. Then get to the next modest target and so on. In some instances, turn them into habits until your routine is ingrained. And then focus on the following goal to achieve.

Change of Daily Routine
Change seems simple, and yet it is hard. You need to transform and create a new daily routine for yourself, which will make an enormous difference in your life. It means developing a habit for the morning, afternoon and evening.

Thus, it will revolutionize your life because a new routine will help you to simplify your days, focus on what is most important, and build the life you desire. In short, you have to eliminate the non-essential in your life.

First of all, you need to identify the things in your life that are most important to you, or what you love the most. Then eliminate all other stuff. It makes things simpler and gives you the space to focus on what is essential.

Cultivating Kindness as a Change
Yes, cultivating and being kind is a great habit to have. Try to focus on kindness each day for a month or two and see what sorts of profound changes enter in your life. It will change you in positive ways, and over the long run, you will see people act towards you differently and even treat you better.

It is called karma! How can you cultivate a kindness habit? Well, first, make it your goal to say or do something kind for a living being each day. It does not matter if it is human or animal. During the day, when an opportunity presents itself, be kind or do a caring act.

Therefore, each time you talk, interact or work with somebody, make an effort to be kind and compassionate. Finally, attempt to go beyond and into more significant acts of compassion. You could volunteer to help those in need or animal causes.

A Final Word on Change and New Ways
So, begin to change your wrong habits in positive ways and accept any small success. Each time you reach a short goal or transformation, you get closer to your outcome. It is a great thing!

However, do not get too satisfied when it happens. Take some time to appreciate the change and keep moving forward to your next desire. These new habits will change your life. It will help you genuinely root the constructive changes in your everyday life.

My closing words are to keep making new goals. Push and drive yourself to become a better version of the person you are now. To change yourself in positive ways and get better habits, you need to have a vivid picture of your final goal and then break it into smaller goals. And then, let it become a routine that gets ingrained and becomes a natural part of you. I know you can do it!

As We Move Forward

Time waits for no one. It is a classic phrase with immutable truth. Our lives are shaped around our actions. We live as we do. The value of intellect is measured by our perception of life. Intellect offers the ability to think and act on many different levels. When we choose to move forward with our thoughts and actions we keep pace with time. Time only moves forward and our actions and thoughts should reflect the same. Holding on to the past offers a reflection of what life used to be. Time has one mission which is continuous movement forward without prejudice of any kind. Our mission is to make the best of our time. To take the best of your past and apply it to your present life widens your lane. It is the cornerstone of your success. Excellence is achieved by continuous effort with emphasis on perfection until it becomes natural. In order for something to become part of your function or becomes natural to you, requires discipline, focus and commitment. This is the road to excellence. Success equals effort times drive divided by consistency. Just as time is continuous our character, values and perceptions of life should be continuous and forward moving. Leave those things that burden you and grasp on to the things in life that propel you forward. The universal law of cause and effect can be better known as reason. We have no control over reason. With reason you learn from your past by using it as a foundation to your future.

Your struggles can be your strength if applied correctly. Excellence is achieved by consistently doing the right over and over with no exception. The simplicity of this process can't be understated. The greatness that is intended for you is in your future not in your past. With setbacks you gain knowledge to propel you forward. The harder the lesson the bigger the reward. Through grace we are given an opportunity to make the next day better than the last day. Corinthian 2:10 "That is why for Christ sake I delight in weakness, in insults in hardships in persecutions in difficulties. For when I am weak I am strong." In spite of the labors of life you can still make it through. We experience triumph and failure with the same magnitude just on different ends of the spectrum. We must push forward without reservation. Faith and intellect matched with consistency and intensity will guarantee you the victory. Consider the thorn in your side a gift.

It is a constant reminder that you will never be perfect but you can overcome.

The best of you is yet to be seen. There was a plan for your success that has always existed. We all have a past but we are not our past we are not our mistakes. When we hurt we learn to heal. When we fail we learn how to succeed. The foundation of our past allows us to build on a bright future. Our future is bright and waiting on us. When tomorrow comes this day will be gone. Let this day be gain not loss. What we do with is important because you a day of you life for it. Let's move forward.

Don't Count On Motivation, Because Discipline Is The Key

Discipline Is King

Motivation is a fleeting state that requires a certain mental or emotional approach to reach a goal.

It fluctuates depending on outward conditions.

In contrast, discipline can help you conquer the toughest challenges.

For example, you may wake up with a cold or flu and have a 10,000 word report to write, yet not be motivated to complete it.

However, discipline commands you tackle the work knowing it must be completed, regardless.

Success depends on discipline because motivation comes and goes. It entails chipping away at a goal until the desired outcome is realised.

Motivation is interrupted by excuses and fades steadily. This is why your motivation at the beginning of the year contracts towards the latter part.

"In other words, if you are an effective manager of yourself, your discipline comes from within; it is a function of your independent will. You are a disciple, a follower, of your own deep values and their source. And you have the will, the integrity, to subordinate your feelings, your impulses, your moods to those values," states author Stephen R. Covey in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

You mustn't wait until the perfect conditions to begin a task. Rather, tackle it boldly until the conditions become perfect.

Motivation is an overused word, apparent in the corporate world where managers try desperately to inspire their employees.

Yet, in the sporting world motivation cannot be relied upon by athletes for success.

Winning athletes know discipline is the cornerstone of success. They consistently show up to training when they're less inclined. Unforeseen circumstances may interrupt their preparation, yet they are determined to put in hours of dedicated practice.

Life has a way of dragging you every which way if you let it. This means if a crisis or unplanned event arises, you may be unmotivated to take action on your goal.

This scenario happens all too often.

If you think back on the previous week, did something unexpected affect your motivation?

Did it wane during the week or were you disciplined despite the interruption?

Author Jay Samit states in Disrupt Yourself, "By carefully studying your environment and analyzing your daily frustrations, you'll find that opportunities for disruption start to jump out at you. Daily discipline is the key to this exercise. I tell my students to write down three things they notice could be improved every day."

Get Feelings Out Of The Way

You must disassociate feelings with actions to reach your goals. This is the biggest impediment affecting people because they are dictated by their emotions, instead of seeing the goal as the prize.

You will enjoy reaching your goals more than the immediate gratification of succumbing to your emotions.

If you rely on feelings, you are less inclined to commit to the task at hand because you are dictated by short-lived emotional states.

Discipline means showing up time and again, irrespective how you feel. The goal has a greater purpose, so it is incumbent on you to stay committed until the end.

It's clear, you don't undertake a goal to play small. It's about winning and achievement that make the pursuit exciting.

"The discipline of consistent action is what self-management is all about. It's the only way to win and keep winning," affirms author Larry Weidel in, Serial Winner: 5 Actions to Create Your Cycle of Success.

So, how can you be more disciplined and avoid counting on motivation?

First, create regular routines without over-committing in the early stages. If your goal is to exercise four times a week, build gradually instead of going all out in the first week.

The greatest impacts on your life will result from taking the first step and improving on it.

Gradual Improvements

In the sporting world there's a term known as, marginal gains popularised by Sky Team's cycling manager, David Brailsford. It is a concept referred to as the "aggregation of marginal gains." According to Brailsford it means, "The 1 percent margin for improvement in everything you do."

At the senior level, most professional athletes are of a similar ability in terms of: performance, dedication and skill. What separates first from second or third is the smaller gains, the 1% such as: sleep, nutrition and recovery.

The 1% increments add up, leading to marginal gains. Therefore, discipline becomes the means to success.

"Success is actually a short race - a sprint fuelled by discipline just long enough for habit to kick in and take over," state authors Gary Keller and Jay Papasan in, The One Thing: The surprisingly simple truth behind extraordinary results.

The key is to start small and make small increments towards your goal.

Second, discover your underlying motivation for pursuing the goal. Find a convincing reason to take daily action, even if it's the smallest task, you are likely to stay committed.

People who have a compelling reason are disciplined until the goal is accomplished.

The desire must be imbued with enthusiasm, you will stop at nothing to achieve it.

"As Samuel Johnson said, "The chains of habit are too weak to be felt until they are too strong to be broken." Anyone who thrives in any endeavour develops this discipline, the ability to be still, to stay the course, to grow down - no matter what. No matter how the world receives them. No matter what results they get initially," affirms Derek Rydall in Emergence: Seven Steps for Radical Life Change.

The forces of life conspire against you in the form of resistance. If you succumb, your efforts will be in vain and your success squandered. Yet, if you take them into account, you will stay resolute irrespective of the circumstances.

Persistent action in the face of fear is paramount, as Susan Jeffers writes in her acclaimed book, Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway. With this approach, you reinforce your self-esteem each time you commit to a task.

Authors Gary Keller and Jay Papasan state, "When you discipline yourself, you're essentially training yourself to act in a specific way. Stay with this long enough and it becomes routine - in other words, a habit. So when you see people who look like "disciplined" people, what you're really seeing is people who've trained a handful of habits into their lives."

You must learn to think with the end in mind as Stephen R. Covey states.

Discipline replaces motivation because you show up consistently. The goal is too important to allow feelings to get in the way.

The late American motivational speaker Jim Rohn said, "We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret."

I advise you not to allow regrets to impose upon your success.

After all, it is much too important to leave to chance.

Do You Have the Necessary Discipline?

I believe 100% in the importance of "mindset" in successfully accomplishing goals. If you believe in your heart of hearts that you either don't deserve success or lack confidence, you simply will not. All of your efforts will be in vain because you are programmed to fail.

How can you tell if your mindset is productive or not? Listen... REALLY LISTEN... to your internal conversation. If you blame others, create excuses or talk about yourself, TO YOURSELF, in a negative way, success will be elusive. In this High Performance Mindset video on YouTube, Michael Gervais, the performance psychologist for the Seattle Seahawks, discusses the importance of this concept. Coach Pete Carroll chimes in as well.

My objective here is to discuss what you need to do once your belief in yourself is unshakable. My friend John Assaraf calls it the Law of GOYA (Get Off Your Ass). I just call it "discipline." My definition of that word: "Doing WHAT needs to be done... WHEN it needs to be done... THE WAY it needs to be done... EVERY TIME!

Start here: Decide what you want to do, what you want to have, and who you want to be and find someone who already has those things. Go to great lengths to meet that person. Copy what they do. Sounds simple; it is! Simple... but not easy! Without discipline... as the saying goes... the road to Hell is paved with good intentions. Here's an example from the best at what he does:

Tom Brady is arguably the best quarterback in the history of the National Football League. Success, as they say, speaks for itself. What you see on the football field, however, is the result of what he does OFF of the field.

• Every morning Tom speaks to his neuropsychologist. He believes that his mind, his body, and his spirit have to be aligned in order to be his best.

• Tom's business partner, and Godfather to one of his children, is Alex Guerrero. Although officially he is Tom's "body coach," he is arguably the most important person in his life, save his supermodel wife, Gisele Bundchen, and his head coach, Bill Belichik. His teammates refer to Guerrero as Mr. Miyagi (the character in The Karate Kid). He is largely responsible for Brady playing at an MVP level in his late 30s and for Brady's aspiration to play until his late 40s or even 50.

• Brady's schedule is planned three years in advance. Every day of it is micro-managed. Treatment, food, workouts, rest, recreation. Per Guerrero: "The whole idea is to program his body to do what we want it to do. We don't let the body dictate. WE dictate."

• Here's a typical Brady vacation day in the off-season: Wake up; work out; have breakfast with Gisele and his children; hang at the beach; nap on schedule; surf; work out again.

He goes to bed early; eats well (more shortly) and avoids alcohol.

• Rather than lifting (metal) weights, Brady uses bands. If you think that one can't get a grueling weight workout with bands, I use them as well. In my arsenal, my exercise bands give me up to 330 pounds of resistance. Guerrero wanted Brady to have more muscle pliability. He noticed that Brady's muscles had become short and brittle using typical weight training.

• Brady's diet is geared, among other things, to give him a balance of acid and alkaline. He consumes food accordingly: 80% alkaline and 20% acidic. Trust me; that isn't easy. His diet is seasonal. In the summer, when it's time for "hot property" foods, he'll consume (for example) red meat. In the winter, he consumes mostly "cold property foods." His diet then is mostly raw. The goal is to maintain balance and harmony through his metabolic system.

• Brady struggles with sleep patterns, so to unwind after games and practices, he does cognitive exercises to destimulate his brain. That allows him to get to sleep by 9 p.m. and wake up without an alarm.

• Brady completes a brain resilience program. After a thorough analysis, he had a program created to workout his brain the way he works out his body. It enables him to process information more quickly than would otherwise be the case. That, in turn, enables him to read defenses between plays and make adjustments on the fly. He believes that his edge is in his mental resiliency and quick processing capability.

I could continue with the long list of things he does to be his best. The point is this: If YOU want to be YOUR best, you have to do the work. Doing the work means both doing the right things, and doing those things right. Otherwise, what's the point?!

The Definitive Habits For Success

To live an abundant life, you should know that there are some definitive habits for success which you could use. These habits are a shared trait I see among the most successful people and are as much of a formula as they are an outcome. While some are simple, others require discipline and persistence.
But what is a habit and how can it be described? What are these influential behaviors from the successful? And how could you learn them so you can make them your own?

A habit is something you do over and over, through repetition, until it becomes unconsciously part of who you are and how others look at you. When you develop particular habits that are quite crucial, it always has a positive impact on your life, personal and professional.

Therefore, this set of definitive habits can affect the amount of success you can have. One of these behaviors is all about being aware of your thoughts. It may sound corny, but it is a real fact. Your thoughts are powerful. People who are continually successful are always mindful of what they are thinking, regardless of their circumstances.

Success seems hard to attain, but it is not if you are ready to make an effort to replace certain habits with better ones. The shift in your conduct will begin to change you as you adopt these definitive habits in your life. You will think more profoundly and objectively while being on your way to success. You will start to understand that taking risks or failing is part of the process to get where you want.

"Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly." - Robert F. Kennedy
Be Mindful of Fixed Habits
While definitive habits help increase your rate of success, some of the fixed conduct you might have can deteriorate your path to prosperity. For example, common knowledge dictates that to make money, you need to squirrel it away in a bank while waiting for it to grow. That approach drastically reduces your chances of ever being successful someday if you do not invest it in some way.

There are also destructive habits which refer to using credit to consume, spending on vices, having addictions, and buying products or services that do not add value to your life. These behaviors do not offer you any definitive benefits and are rather a financial waste.

Productive habits are those that make or generate you money, can improve your overall well-being, educate you, make you grow and be a better person. The smartest way to build definitive habits is to cultivate them in place of fixed ones, just like a garden which, in turn, makes success blossom.

The Definitive Habits and their Effective Benefits
However, the benefits of practicing the definitive habits of the 'successful' might not always be the answer to solve all of your problems, but it will give you the strength to face them and find the solution.

Making Better Decisions
Each of us has preconceived notions fixed and wired into our minds, and they often cause us to make incorrect and inappropriate decisions. Sometimes, it is not easy to decide or to stay away from something we prefer.

Yet, healthy, confident and definitive habits can help you to develop more refined views as a result of self-discipline. These behaviors can help you see and think more objectively about your circumstances. So, you can make better decisions.

Being More Productive
At times, there is some confusion in our minds. We spend time being busy or doing unnecessary things, and it is because we do not often have appropriate lucidity. But with these fruitful and definitive habits, it provides you with a better judgment as to what is significant and enables you to filter out what is left.

Once filtered, it is easier to work on what is more essential, and you become more productive. It means that you can identify tasks which are important to you and outsource the ones that are simple and boring to someone else who will turn them into something advantageous for you. This way, everything can be more productive.

The Definitive Habits and their Positive Influence
The positive effect of successful people's definitive habits makes you more enjoyable to be around and also happier. The reason being is that the purpose of any success in life is to be able to touch and affect others positively.

Practicing these successful behaviors gives you the ability to be able to help yourself your loved ones and others in need as it makes you more compassionate. In turn, it provides you with a positive influence over most. When you start incorporating these definitive habits in your life, and people see the positive impact it has brought you, they may begin embracing these behaviors also.

The Power of These Absolute Habits
The power of these ultimate habits for success does not only make an impact in your professional life but in your personal life as well. It helps you grow and develop into a great warrior and achieve what you want. These practices influence every single aspect of your life and will direct you on the road to success.

We could all use a bit of sunshine in our lives. But as I said it earlier, these definitive habits all start with being more your thoughts to make sure that they are optimistic and productive. It is imperative to block any negativity from entering your mind. You have to repeat habits that will make you successful and happy. So what are those successful habits?

"Successful people are simply those with successful habits." - Brian Tracy
The Definitive Habits for Success
The seven definitive habits listed below are the ones you should start integrating into your life and practicing. It does not matter what your incentive is; you have to begin. It is the only way you will ever achieve the success you are looking for.

1. The Definitive Habit of Listening
You need to listen to the positives, negatives, and unusual people in a room. Learn to listen for the nuggets of data as well as some answers to the essential questions. The habit of listening is like a muscle; it needs to be intentionally applied.

2. The Definitive Habit of Taking Action
Success is also an action, not just a thought. It is indispensable that you reflect on the ideal outcome, but nothing can be realized without you taking action.

3. The Definitive Habit of Practicing Mindfulness
Take time to reflect on things daily. And try to regulate your emotions by talking with those who support you. Exercise, meditate, watch something positive, or read.

4. The Definitive Habit of Going beyond Expectations
It is one the most crucial ways to create trust, form and build relationships, and make or win deals. Going beyond expectations can be a simple thing such as self-discipline by showing up five or ten minutes early. The definitive habit is to make sure you always go beyond the expectation you fixed.

5. The Definitive Habit of Asking Questions
When you ask questions, you gain a bigger understanding of the vision or discussion. You have to ask the right questions which helps find a solution to dialogue. Always stop for a moment and ask questions before jumping to conclusions or think of an instant answer. You get a better and more successful result.

6. The Definitive Habit of Following Intuition
Your mind offers information and evidence while your heart provides understanding and feelings. Learn to listen to your heart to follow natural choices and spread acts of compassion. It is a powerful weapon and a definitive habit to have.

7. The Definitive Habit of Giving
When you give, you get back. Paying it forward or giving to others provides you with things that you cannot get by winning. If you make it a particular habit to teach what you know and train others, you achieve, in fact, more mastery over the knowledge you share.

Now, use these behaviors to your advantage. Know that it will push and force you to outline your definition of being successful and develop habits to accomplish it. So, make an effort and slowly add these definitive habits in your daily life, and you will reap their benefits on the road to success.

The Three Significant Secrets to Any Success in Life

So, what is the secret to any success?

Well, if I told you that it wouldn't be a secret now, would it? The day dreamer's version of the secret to any success in life is you put your feet up, sit back, relax, let things to just happen and the success rolls in just like a dream. We've all been day dreamers sometime or the other!

But in all seriousness, I am keen to tell you my version of what the Three Significant Secrets to Any Success in Life is. And it might not be what you all want to hear or some of you might not want to hear. That is Hard Work, the Right Education, and The Journey.

That is it. So, once you sincerely start putting the hard work and you are getting the right education, the journey is going to be a combination of so many things like finding the right people to learn from, the circle of people you surround yourself with, your everyday discipline, your level of commitment to your mission and the time that you allow every day for your mission.

Once you have made those decisions, then you can start to really focus on The Secret.

The Myth:

A lot of people think to have a goal in life and to succeed means that you have to be really intelligent, smarter than the other person or always be on the edge. That is completely not true. I will tell you this, over the years some of the role models of mine who have not presented themselves as experts in anything have achieved remarkable status in life. And I have seen others, who started their journey with excitement, have put in the work, but ended giving up ultimately.

So, if there is something that I can share from my experience is, it is very typical for people to get results only if they are persistent, no matter what. In other words, what I mean is that they show up, they take consistent action and they do the hard work. Definitely, these are the people with the right mindset, just the positive one.

I think too many people stress about the wrong things in life. Life is stressful enough and I'm sure you would agree that you don't have to be stressed unnecessarily.

When people start their journey to achieve something, they go in and they face challenges or they have a bad day. So, many people blow out of proportion. And I think this is something that we see in people all the time.

I know for sure that the secret with all the successful people is that they've always pulled themselves up and made sure that they enjoyed their journey.

The Journey:

If you are unsure about how you are going to achieve what you started in the first place? You should get educated first. That's probably the hardest part. The research of picking the right approach that suits you. But once you've done that and if you've done it right? Just enjoy the journey. This is going to be one of the biggest secrets.

I think that success in anything is the journey. It's not the destination because it never ends.

As for me? I am on a journey now just like anyone else. But I am enjoying this journey more than what I ever have done, and I am realistic with myself. I've got the right mentors, I am using the right training and I made sure that I found people that I wanted to learn from to be successful in my life.

Does this help when you've got your bills to pay? When you have a regular job to go to where you spend 10 hours a day? Of course, it does and no doubt about it.

There is nothing more enjoyable when you really think about it than learning new skills especially the skills that are going to better your life, better your family's life and improve your future.

Sometimes you just need to take a step back and be realistic with yourself. You are going to have to work hard, you are going to have to get the right education. Just make it an enjoyable journey to success. That will be my version of the secret if there are any secrets to success at all.

So, go-ahead. Get started, put in the hard work and enjoy your version of the journey!

Keep your passion alive!

You Deserve To Be A Winner

Have you ever felt that somebody who wins all the time has their luck working for them? And that their life is nice and easy compared to yours? Haven't we all? But, unfortunately that's not even close to being the truth. The fact is that winning and losing have some things in common: they are both habits. You probably know someone who can't win at the game of life, no matter how many advantages he's given. You also know someone that's the exact opposite. He wins at everything, even though he doesn't seem to have any advantages.

Which of those two would you like to be? The winner! right? If you could just develop these simple habits listed below you'd be amazed at how dramatically you will increase your chances of winning consistently!

1. Set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time Bound) goals. You can't win if you don't define the goal. Know what you're trying to accomplish. Set clear goals with reasonable deadlines. Create a target that you find motivating and exciting. Choose the target, but be flexible in your approach to achieving the goal. Celebrate all wins! Celebrate each and every milestone achieved! Stay in the energy of gratitude.

2. Develop habits that serve you. Replace the habits that don't serve your goal with the ones that do. Discipline and willpower are in limited supply. Use them to create the habits you need to reach your goals. Once you have a habit, willpower becomes unnecessary. For example, if your goal is to release 30 lbs of body weight, develop healthy eating and exercise habits. If your goal is to find your most compatible soul mate, develop a habit of being open and talking to people you meet. If your goal is to find more leads for your business, be open to going to business networking events!

3. Simplify your life. Our lives are full of things that get in the way. They can be possessions, activities, or even people. Get rid of the junk in your life. Make room for success and minimize the obstacles and distractions you face.

4. Get a mentor. It's true that you can accomplish a lot on your own but you can accomplish much more with a mentor. Odds are that someone has already accomplished your goal. Wouldn't it make sense to get some guidance and advice since you're taking the same journey? There's no reason to reinvent the wheel. Take advantage of the successes and mistakes others made before you, just model their successes and learn from their mistakes!

5. Take full responsibility. You're ultimately responsible for your own success. Even if you have a mentor, it's still your responsibility. Be comfortable with this. It means that you are the one in control.

6. Learn to fail forward. Failing is just getting a result you didn't intend. You may have failed at something, but it does not mean that you are a failure. Failures are opportunities to perfect your approach. The more you fail, and the more you learn from it, the more successful you'll eventually become. Everyone fails. However, it's important not to repeat your failures. Ensure you're learning something each time. Remember! "Every master was once a disaster!"

7. Be wise with how you use your time. Time is the great equalizer. We all have 24 hours each day. Using these hours wisely is the key. Are you spending your time wisely or wasting it? Only you know the answer! The most successful people are those that make the most of their 24 hours.

8. Invest in yourself. More knowledge results in more effective decisions. Invest in educating yourself through books, motivational CDs, seminars and workshops. It's you who is the real asset! But avoid the trap of learning at the expense of actually doing something. Spend a few hours each week learning something that you can apply towards achieving your goals.

9. Persevere. Winners don't quit. You can't lose if you don't quit. Just keep on going! You'll eventually win as long as you're willing to persist. If you quit, you've lost! Build the perseverance habit into your daily life. When you have the urge to quit an activity, keep going until that activity is completed. It might be folding the laundry, cleaning the house, exercising, or working on a report for work. Learn to stick with tasks after you feel the desire to stop. The habit will transfer to other activities!

Winning is the result of having a goal, developing useful habits, and persisting until success is achieved. Winning doesn't take any more work than losing. The work is just different! Begin today to develop the habits you need to win consistently. You Deserve To Be A Winner.

Infuse Life With Action And Make It Happen

Some people dream of success, while other people get up every morning and make it happen. You have to make it happen. Never let life impede on your ability to manifest your dreams. Don't just stand there, make it happen. That's what at the end of the day defines us.

Some people hope that tomorrow would be a better day. Well, why will it be a better day? Well, instead of hoping that something will happen, why don't we just make it happen? Remember that we live to thrive not just to survive. So, why do we wait for tomorrow to happen when we can make it today? Act right NOW. Take actions to accomplish them.

Instead of hoping we should be acting. Unfortunately, in our world, nothing is handed to you for free. You have to put to work to get some results. And the harder you work the better the results will be.The difference between the ordinary and the extraordinary is the little extra.

Talents and potential enable you to achieve great things - but for most of us, these fail because of laziness or lack of perseverance. Although, hope is a choice and can change your life but you need to act to make change happen.

Lao Tzu cited that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. This leads to steady progress and improvement over the course of a week, month and year, up until the point they achieve their desired outcomes. Without urgency, there is no motivation - there is nothing forcing you to get up early in the morning to pursue your goals, and there is certainly nothing enticing you to stay up late when tasks haven't yet been completed.

You have so much to live up to and so much to achieve. However, things aren't that bad. This might not be ideal, but it's fine and acceptable. Understanding on how to make things happen how it originates and manifests in people's lives are important. It doesn't really matter how you end up convincing yourself to take urgent action in the pursuit of your goals, as long as it creates within you a strong desire to attack your goals with purpose and get things done intelligently and quickly.

Taking future deadlines into consideration is very important when it comes to creating a sense of urgency, however, what's important is that you don't obsess over your future, but instead stay present in order to make things happen at the moment. It also requires a proactive approach to accomplishing your tasks and projects.

Discipline is also required to create a sense of urgency. Living with a sense of urgency does mean that you will be working at a far more rapid pace than you're probably used to because this can lead to higher levels of stress and tension.

Experiencing these emotions is inevitable. So, even though there are drawbacks to making things happen, there are plenty of advantages as well that can help you create the momentum you need to attain your goals and objectives by infusing action to your goals.

It absolutely paramount that you break your goal down into small parts and assign at the very least weekly deadlines that will help you to stay focused on achieving them.

Slight Edge Discipline Can Make YOU Successful! (Rhonda McNett )

Well, I've been at it again (still!) - you know me: reading! And, yet again, I want to share what I think is one of the best books I've ever read on success, happiness, fulfillment - you name it and it's here! Why do I do this? It's interesting! We always have some goals we are striving for and always looking for the short-cut - it's in our culture! Thus, the get-thin-quick diet; the quick-fix exercise program; the path to the Fountain of Youth...

In my case, professionally, it's in ways to help you, my dear clients and friends, realize your goals of organization and productivity. Then, you're able to realize a more stress-free and peaceful existence. Wahoo!

The gist of "The Slight Edge," by Jeff Olson, is that by making small changes, bit by bit, you can accomplish your dreams and without as much angst and tension as jumping in full-footed might cause. So, think of it like this, my organizing buddies:

1. We've talked about getting from Point A to Point B without a road map - and you know that doesn't work, right? So, a plan of action, a starting point is crucial - a vision of what you are aiming for. Slight adjustments along the way keep you on track to get to the stated goal, no matter how many side-streets you may encounter along the way.

2. Keep trudging along, step by step, with just enough momentum to keep you heading toward your goal, your Point B, whether it's for your career, finances, personal relationships or your junk drawer! Baby steps may not be particularly romantic, but they beat a marathon that you probably won't ever finish. How about the story of the tortoise and the hare, eh?

3. Being busy and being productive are not the same thing, agreed? So, even if you can only give your desired project, your desired vision 15 minutes of active attention each day, by the end of the week, you've given over two hours of almost invisible labor and effort to it! You've already started changing your previous 'bad' habits into more productive, efficient and effective ones. Huge pat on the back here!

4. How about keeping a list of your "Dones!" and not just your "To Do's?" Don't we all love to cross things off, even to the point of adding them to a list just so we can do that? Caught you!

5. What's another little mantra that I'm always yammering about? Reward, reward, reward! I was glad to read that Jeff Olson also agrees with using the "power of celebration." Acknowledge that your slight-edge changes, all your baby steps are truly getting you to that desired Point B, where your vision is showing you so clearly what you are aiming for.

Being an admittedly slow reader (no matter how many adaptations I've tried!). it usually takes me a bit to get through a book - avid reader or not! I'm happy to say, though, that this book is very easy to read and equally entertaining, as well as helpful while being non-judgmental - love that!

Try "The Slight Edge" on for size and let me know what you think. I'm hoping you'll be able to pull out several items that absolutely ring true for you on your organizational or time-management journey!

Here's to all the baby steps and still making it to the finish line!

Message From the Universe: Forget About the How's!

"However do you do it? You know, talk, and make such sense? Walk, and not fall down? Ask, and then know the answer? Aim, and then deliver? Show up on time? Always get by? Make just enough?

How on earth?!

You don't know how, do you?

You haven't got a clue.

And that's exactly how you do it.

You leave the "hows" to Me, as you simply focus upon and move towards the end results.

You got this,
The Universe"

OK, so you figured it out, FINALLY! You dream, think positively, work towards your goals and let the Universe take care of the rest. You know how everything works but by having NO clue on how EVERYTHING really works, this is how things happen. It might seem confusing at first, but this is how you experience the real things in life. The day you stopped figuring out or trying to find reasons as to the impossibility of this or that happening, you opened the floodgate for the Universe to take action and bring you the most incredible outcome you ever imagined. Yes, it does take discipline to force your mind to stop asking questions as to how you will get this accomplished because it is not your job for you to get involved in the HOW'S of your dreams. You just think, focus, take action, and let the rest unravel in front of you. Procrastination becomes an obstacle, and not just in your actions but also for your thoughts. Letting things intimidate you because of the amount of work is not the way to go. The HOW'S to be achieved by the Universe will come to a halt and the Universe will stop processing your thoughts. Avoid this at all cost. Change how you perceive things and learn to delegate the big tasks to the Universe. It is not that difficult. Actually, doing so will allow you to dream bigger because your mind will no longer be concerned about what needs to be accomplished.

Just like a computer, when you write a script/code, you let the computer take care of the task that takes too much time or that is too boring for your mind. You set up a cron job and the computer will repeat these tasks over and over again until you ask it to stop. Wouldn't that be amazing? Well, why not let the Universe take care of these mundane responsibilities so you can focus on what you find to be exciting? The Universe is a processor of tasks so ask and you shall receive. Do not bother understanding the logistic because you will be wasting your time. The complex algorithm the Universe possess is far beyond what any human mind can comprehend. Scientists have tried to figure out more about the Universe and its beginning and did find some substantial answers on how our cosmos works in the grand scheme of things. The truth is that they haven't even scratch the surface to what is out there, and chances are, they will never be able to figure out all of what needs to be discovered. All is based on theories since nothing beyond the Hobble telescope discoveries can be proved. String theory, what was before the Big Bang theory, is based on what they can determine to be the truth but can't really prove. Their job is to figure it out and let the scientific community know about their recent discoveries. For us, we just focus on letting the Universe take care of OUR how's and let ourselves grow and prosper. There is no real mystery here Ladies and Gentlemen, it is just based on a mental perception on what you expect the Universe to do for you. Focus on that ONLY!

5 Weird Environmental Hacks That Increases Your Productivity

Before anything else, preparation is the key to success.

Similarly, before you dive in to your daily work routine, isn't it wise to make sure everything in your environment is supporting you?

Below are 5 weird little environment hacks that most people ignore when it comes to increasing their productivity, do not overlook them.

Hack #1 Ergonomic Desk, Keyboard and Chair

Not sure what "ergonomic" means?

Well, ergonomics is the scientific study that concerns the understanding of human body structure and how we can apply this physical mechanics into designing products that optimize human wellbeing and performance.

While this is not a new discipline of work, there are plenty of ergonomic office chairs, desks and keyboards that aim to provide as much comfort your body needs to work efficiently.

For example, do you have a comfortable cushion that supports your back? Does your chair contain a nice arm rest on the side? How are you placing your mouse and keyboard on your desk? Are your computer monitors adjustable to fit your eye level?

Make sure these money-making tools are supporting your health as well.

Hack #2 Standing Desk (My Favorite)

What's more important than a nice chair is the ability to stand while you work.

For the past few decades, we've shifted from being industrial revolution factory slaves to office-in-a-box slaves.

Our bodies are designed to move, not to remain sedentary. While it may be difficult to incorporate a standing treadmill desk, having an option to stand while you work is definitely something you should do.

My father is a brilliant DIY guy and right now I'm using his craft to deliver value to the world. I can't explain how much more energy I generate (especially after lunch) than sitting on a chair all day long and suffering from some butt hurt...

So a standing desk is definitely one of my top picks to invest in!

Hack #3 Proper Lighting

Simply put, dim lights strain your eyes and they will make you headache and tired. However, an overtly bright artificial light can also hurt your eyes and generates much discomfort.

So the best thing you can do is to combine artificial light with natural light.

Natural light can enhance your mood and it gives you an opportunity to look outside and relax your eyes.

While I'm not an ophthalmologist, I do recommend you checking out LED and incandescent light bulbs as they don't emit light in the UV range so they pose less risk. However, you should avoid fluorescent bulbs as it was reported that they might emit invisible UV light.

Hack #4 Quiet Room

Such a simple productivity trick but often got ignored; you want to find a quiet corner when you work!

Preventing any potential distraction is the first thing you should do to increase your productivity.

So close your doors, put on a headset if you need, and get focused.

Hack #5 Clean Desk, or Not?

Kathleen Vohs' research, as reference in Psychological Science, shows that an organized desk promotes making healthier choices while a messy desk leads to more creativity.

So unless your work requires you to be a creative genius, you normally want to organize your documents, papers, files and stuff nicely to avoid wasting time locating them.

However, when it comes to brainstorming, creating, designing, maybe it's good to throw papers around and bounce your ideas across the room!
