How To Be Successful In Life - The Underlying Principles of Success

Everyone wants to achieve the highest level of success. However, reaching that desirable level of success is not as easy as most of us perceive. To be successful, you have to sacrifice and forego majority of life's pleasures. Below is a list of seven guaranteed ways to be successful in life.

1. Do what you love

Unfortunately, most of us end up settling for jobs or careers that do not offer maximum satisfaction. Put simply, it is important to understand your passion and pursue it with all your energy and resources. The greatest regret held by a majority of the elderly is settling for what they did not love. To avoid having regrets on most of your early life decisions, be sure to pursue your passion. Doing what you love will ensure you remain passionate and highly motivated in your day to day activities regardless of the income. Be sure to discover your true purpose and work hard to achieve your goals.

2. Identify with a successful individual

As you look to achieve your dreams and initially set goals, ensure you remember that success has no secret recipe. It is advisable to identify with a successful person in your field of interest, and do whatever your mentor does to achieve his or her level of success. Once you have a role model or a mentor you associate with, it becomes easier to emulate the positive traits while learning from your mentor`s mistakes. Pick up the positive habits and ensure you avoid the mistakes made by your role model. By emulating a successful person, you increase your chances of succeeding exponentially.

3. Anticipate failure of disappointment

Good things never come easy, and if they do, then they probably won't last. Do not anticipate a smooth sailing in your journey to success. Instead, be ready to pick yourself up whenever you experience failure or disappointment. After all, successful people are characterized by their ability to remain hopeful even in their greatest disappointments. Therefore, regardless of how many times you fail, ensure you remain optimistic and confident in your ability to succeed.

4. Practice makes perfect

No one can succeed without commitment and adequate practice. To achieve the highest level of success in your respective field, it is necessary to take your time to practice until your skills become flawless. Contrary to popular belief, success is attained by maintaining a high level of consistency. Thus, to enjoy success, you must be willing to put time into strengthening your skills through constant practice.

5. Plan

Unfortunately, most of us assume that success happens overnight. However, success more often than not occurs as a result of adequate planning and organization. To achieve your set goals and targets, it is crucial to have a plan that will act as a guide. Successful people know what to do and when to do things; they just don't go about doing everything simultaneously. As a result, be sure to take your time and adequately plan for all your milestones. Set a schedule and observe it to the latter. Once you have a plan in place, it will be possible to measure your progress and consequently ensure that everything goes according to plan.

6. Be true to yourself

As you embark on your journey to success, it is necessary to understand that the biggest obstacle to success is yourself. Procrastination never helps; in fact, all it does is rob you off the time that you would otherwise utilize to achieve your goals. Therefore, ensure you are hard on yourself. That is, avoid procrastinating or letting yourself off the hook whenever you lack the motivation to do an important activity. Without self-discipline, it is impossible to achieve your set goals.

7. Enjoy the journey

Always keep in mind that everyone has an independent journey and purpose. Avoid comparing yourself to others as aimless comparisons can derail your development. Be patient and ensure you reward yourself every time you achieve your goals or initially set milestones. Indeed, it is only through self-love and appreciation that you can achieve the highest level of success. As such, give yourself treats and rewards that match your achievements. Remember, if you do not appreciate your achievements, no matter how small, then no one else will.

Throughout a career in engineering, and project management with a family then afterward as an author, a laser focus, concentration and optimizing, prioritizing schedule has been critical for his success.

The Secret for Achieving Goals and Finishing Projects!

I love achieving goals, you could nearly say achieving goals and finishing projects has become a hobby for me. I love setting myself a task and seeing it completed. I have developed a system whereby I "see" the finished project or event so clearly I can draw it or write a summary about it. The anticipation is great, the enthusiasm to get on with it drives me on and the satisfaction on completion is amazing. I then have to decide on the next project.

I have no trouble achieving these mini goals that take from a few days or weeks to complete. Some bigger goals can take years, but now I never doubt they will happen.

Would you like to develop your confidence in setting and achieving goals and projects? Begin with something small you really want to achieve, something you are prepared to find time for that you really want. Choose something that won't take you too far from your comfort zone. It could be planning a special day out, making an elaborate birthday cake, mending something that's broken, clearing a long-awaited cupboard or shed etc. then congratulate yourself and immediately that is finished plan your next project deciding when it will be completed.

Continue in this way until it becomes a habit, not only will you get a lot done but you are building your confidence in your ability to see things through and it becomes immense fun. Build up a series of these smaller projects until you start planning life changing events with confidence.

What are your life changing goals? Emigrating, travelling the world, a new career, changing your job, setting up a business? What do you really want to do, how will you spend your future?

Make a big list of things that are important to you and work through your list and you will be surprised what you can achieve once you have momentum and believe in yourself. The satisfaction will keep you moving forward.

So far this month I have decorated several rooms in our home, they are now fresh and inviting; spent a few days with my daughter and family and picked up some more computer tips, and with the help of my partner built a new work station, all whilst continuing with my business. The time freedom my work at home business offers, allows me to fit a lot in, working with a laptop.

So what are your long-term goals? Mine were to work at home and winter in the sun, I do both. Would working at home with time and location freedom appeal to you. No more commuting or orders from the boss! It does take a while to plan and achieve a big change like that but the satisfaction is immense.

A little tip as I have tried both methods - If you are thinking of starting a business online, affiliate marketing is the simplest way to start, with the guidance of a good coach. It is much easier than attempting to learn it all alone. You will start earning much quicker too. You will have the comradeship of other entrepreneurs in the group for help, support and encouragement.

Whatever your new projects and goals are, do make a start and feel the new surge of excitement as you achieve more and your life expands. Have a great future!

10 Proven Actions to Overcome Self-Doubt and Achieve Success

"Believe it and you can achieve it". We've all heard it, seen it in others, but why it is so hard to believe in ourselves.

I remember a scene from the film "Pretty Woman" when Julia Roberts replies to Richard Gere "The bad stuff is easier to believe. Have you ever noticed that?" Her answer struck a chord with me and I still struggle to find my self-worth to this day.

Why this is true and more importantly what can we do about it?

In her fascinating TED TALK, " Getting stuck in the negatives", Alison Ledgerwood demonstrates her results from a series of experiments that prove what we already instinctively knew. It's easier to believe the negative stuff.

That's not the end of the story. She explains further, it does take work to think more positively and it is possible to train yourself to be more positive and build your self-esteem.

Here are my top 10 proven actions that have helped me through some bad times into the more positive and productive periods in my life.

1. Every time you have a bad day. Ask yourself "What was good about today?" You always get out of life what you focus on most. If your focus is negative you'll just get more of what you don't want but if you break the pattern with a single question and make an effort to focus on what you do want, then you are more likely to achieve it.

2. Set small achievable goals for yourself but make sure you complete them! Inch by inch you will start to feel that you are more capable with each accomplishment.

3. Set out to improve every aspect of your life by just 1%. Think about it. 1 % improvement in each area of your life, each day, builds up your motivation, momentum and your achievements which automatically help you believe in yourself.

4. Take Time Out. When you get stuck. STOP! Break the routine! Walk the dog! Go dancing! Out with friends! Sailing. Whatever you enjoy doing the most, relaxes you and puts a smile on your face. For me it's saddling up my horses and hitting the trail! I learnt a valuable lesson from a wonderful boss I had many years ago. He used to laugh at me when I would stubbornly stay all night trying to solve a problem at work. He always told me to stop, go home and get a good night's sleep. Inevitably the next morning, I would find the solution within the first 5 minutes of starting work. Solving a problem quickly gives you more self-confidence and it sure beats struggling on when you're tired and telling yourself what a "waste of space" you are.

5. Eat that Frog! Mark Twain once wrote "Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you for the rest of the day" Brian Tracey used the quote as the title of his book for combatting procrastination. The idea is, when you look at your to do list, what is the one task that you least want to do. Do it first and get it out of the way, after, you will feel pumped up and more relaxed. Your productivity will sky rocket for the rest of the day as will your self-esteem.

6. Tell your inner self to "SHUT UP!" In his highly entertaining motivational talks Les Brown, hilariously explains that you would never treat others the way we treat ourselves. When that little voice starts nagging you about how useless you are. Tell it to shut up! It's not what's happening around you that prevent you achieving your goals. They are just hurdles you can go over, under or around. It's our self-defeating inner voice playing on our emotions that holds us back. Give yourself a break.

7. Help other people. There are very few things in life that give you such an instant boost of self-worth than helping someone else. I thrive on helping others especially when I'm feeling depressed it's an instant reversal to the slippery slope of depression.

8. Recognise your skills. List all the skills you are great at. Can't think of anything. Ask your friends and family. What is it about you that everyone likes and admires? If your life is just an endless list of mistakes well maybe your worth is as the crash dummy of life. Half the battle in life is avoiding the pitfalls, and if you can help others in that respect then your contribution is invaluable.

9. Face your Fear. My favorite quote on this subject is from Oprah Winfrey "The thing you fear most has no power. Your fear of it is what has the power. Facing the truth really will set you free" In my opinion and through personal experience, facing your fear head on will only make you stronger. Last year was the hardest year of my life. My beautiful 4 yr. old son was diagnosed with a rare and very aggressive form of Leukemia. BUT despite the pain, despair, fears of losing him and loneliness at being separated from my other son and my family. I got up every morning to go and sit by his bedside from dawn to midnight. It was hard, very hard but he is on the road to recovery now and both of us have come out of the experience so much stronger and less fearful than before. Do not let fear hold you back. You have so much to offer the world.

10. Do something you believe in. A sense of purpose is one of the most powerful ways to feel fulfilled. When you know why you are doing something. The drive and motivation just flow without effort.

The most important message I want you to learn is keep moving forward. "When you rest you rust" No matter what happens to you in life don't give up. Let go of the past, stop fighting it. It's like hitting your head against a brick wall, only you get hurt. Learn from your mistakes and move on. Forgive those who have hurt you. May be you should thank them for they have made you more aware and stronger.

Get off the "Pity Potty". Dust off your dreams and start living your life. Don't let anything or anyone stop you. It will not be easy; if it was easy then everybody would be doing it. Success will be all the sweeter, having worked hard and overcome all the obstacles.

It took the horror of my son Leukemia to snap me out of my "I'm not worthy" mindset. Since then I have started a new online business, which allows me precious time to be with my children and animals, financial freedom to buy a new home and I can help other people realize their dreams.

What's your dream?

How to Create Clearly Defined Goals: Goal Sheets for Adults

In achieving any goal in life, it is imperative to create a clear thought process. There are a few necessary questions to ask yourself, prior to goal development. Such questions include: What do you want to accomplish? What steps are necessary to achieving this goal and what obstacles are out there to impede you from succeeding?

Roughly 25 years ago, I had to make an ultimate decision, one that would affect me long-term. I was faced with accepting my position as a child born into poverty or to change my situation by striving for better opportunities. At the time, my parents were not fortunate enough to acquire a formal western education, and poverty was a well-known friend. As a result of my childhood struggles, my daily thoughts were 'how can I change my current situation'? My thoughts were clear and focused, I was not thinking of anything else. I needed to change my way of existing because I was extremely tired. I desired to live and not just exist! I'd had enough of witnessing my parent's diligent work, yet they still struggled to provide three daily meals for the family.

Ultimately, I became embedded in my thoughts of creating a better reality. And before I knew it, those thoughts had manifested in my everyday life. Every second, even subconsciously, I thought of how I could end poverty in my family. As a result, everything about me started to change. I begin to strategize, with the end result in mind. Eventually, with hard-work, determination and following my proven steps, I did succeed in ending poverty in my family.

Your focus will be enhanced and targeted on your goal/decision needing to be made. Why? Because your mind identifies it as very important to you. You will become so immersed in the thought process that you'll seek to find the necessary resources, to achieve your goal. The best part of this process is that others will be able to see these thoughts and changes within you; such as how you talk, walk, smile and the new focus you carry. In the end, upon developing clarity of thought, you can start the process of goal setting. Having a thought focused mindset and incorporating your ideas into an action plan, will build the foundation necessary to reach your desired goal.

Below are steps that you can follow to achieve your goal.

1. Identify Your Goal.

In this stage, you have to identify a goal you want to achieve. This goal can fall under any of these category, such as personal, professional, relationship, and financial goals. When establishing this goal, you should be as clear as possible; pinpointing the beginning and the end of the goal. As Steven Covey said,'' Have the end in mind''. You must see the end of where you are going before even starting the journey. Imagine and visualize the goal, with details and possible barriers. Try to draw and write it down exactly the way you see it. During the process don't edit, just write it down as your mind creates it while being as detailed as possible. Don't remove any statement from your writing. It may look funny, but the idea is to not interrupt your thought process. Just put it down, the way it is!

2. Visible and Attainable.

Once you have successfully identified your goal and recorded the efforts, the next step is to analyze whether the goal is visible and attainable. Sincerity is very important at this stage. Remember, sincerity leads to prosperity. You are the only one that can ascertain if this goal or idea will be a success and believing in your goal will ensure others do as well. This stage gave me numerous challenges 25 years ago while analyzing if my goals were visible and attainable. My identified goal was to attend school abroad, in the United States. My parent couldn't afford to send me due to financial barriers, I mean my family was not even guaranteed daily meals. I wrote and drew diagrams of my goal. My mind showed me the progressive journey and the challenges that would arise along the way. This was very mind-blowing because I never believed my mind was capable of such a task. This is why it's vital not to edit, during the writing process.

3. Keep it personal.

This is the most delicate stage. Once you have clarity of thought, established your goal and analyzed to see how visible and attainable the goal is; then you should ensure it's personal. However, you can share it with a confidant. In my case, I told my parents. But guess what... They didn't believe that I could achieve my goal. Not because they didn't love and support me. It was primarily because none of my family has attended school abroad. Even if they did believe me, my parents couldn't afford the accommodations. So to them, I wasn't making sense. At the time, I was just a 5-year-old kid sharing a wishful thought. I communicated my goal of attending school abroad with my friends. I told them exactly how I would accomplish my goal, specific to my age & date, I was very detailed. They laughed and said I've watched too many American movies. They never believed me. Interestingly enough, I wasn't discouraged. Rather, I became more determined to prove to them that I'll make this goal happen, which I eventually did.

If you haven't already, you can still achieve your goals and dreams. As Napoleon Hill said, "Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve." So, start taking advantage of this powerful tool- your mind - which the creator has gifted to you. Regardless of your age and situation, you can dream and set goals anytime, it is never too late. Follow these proven steps and before you know it, your goal is right in front of you.
