The Imposter Syndrome

Do you ever feel like an imposter?

Like a fake or a fraud, and that people are going to find out? Apparently common, even among those we know as geniuses.

I meet many entrepreneurs who have fears and insecurities as they build their empires, price their services, and get behind their marketing and strategy.

If you struggle with an inner view of yourself, despite how you present yourself to the world, you'll find some comfort and belonging knowing that you're amongst 70% of the population that feels an imposter syndrome at some time.

I interviewed Veronica Hislop to shed some light on this limiting belief that stunts our potential. She explains the Imposter Syndrome and provides great tips and strategies on how to overcome it.

Veronica describes the imposter syndrome as a core belief that oneself is inadequate, incompetent, and a failure, despite evidence that indicates they're skilled and successful.

What amazed me most is that even genius people like Albert Einstein and famous people like Maya Angelou admitted to thinking they were an imposter!

Albert Einstein said: "The exaggerated esteem in which my life work was held makes me very ill at ease, and I feel compelled to think of myself as an involuntary swindler."

Take a look at my new Leadership Tip to learn more. Transcribed for reading or as an audio file for a quick listen. Your authentic self will thank you.

The first step toward better relationships is mastering the one we have with ourselves.

Here's to your future authenticity. No imposter syndrome required. Be fearless, be YOU and be rich!

Change Your Life With The Power Of Positive Affirmations

What Is an Affirmation?

An empowering statement that, when repeated on a consistent basis, is accepted as truth within the subconscious mind. For example, if you're insecure about your weight you might use the affirmation "Everyday I am effortlessly getting closer to my weight loss goal". If you lack confidence in a social environment you could affirm "By being myself, I effortlessly build lasting connections with everyone". Any fear you may have, any doubt, insecurity or limiting belief can be overcome by using affirmations. In addition, you can use affirmations as a sort of "magnet". Affirmations such as "money flows to me naturally and effortless", or "I am attracting my soul mate to me now" have an astounding effect. In short, a positive affirmation is used to reprogram your subconscious mind, empowering you in every area of your life.

What's The Big Deal?

Your subconscious mind makes 96-98% of your decisions for you, without you being consciously aware of it at all. So, if your subconscious mind is holding on to a limiting belief or a superfluous fear (such as fear of social interaction) you will be led to decisions that don't reflect what you truly desire. This is where affirmations come in! The only one who can make you believe a negative or limiting thought is you. Luckily, you can make your subconscious mind believe what you want it to believe. When you do this, you become what you are truly capable of. You will do bolder things, be more optimistic, create the reality you want and live a better life. So, on to the important part!

How To Do Affirmations

  • Pick out your list of a few positive affirmations to replace your negative beliefs with. You can recite these to yourself at any time throughout your day, as long as you're able to focus intently on the words and their meaning.
  • Relax your body. Take a few deep breaths and quiet your mind. Release all of the meaningless mental chatter and focus on your affirmations.
  • As you say each affirmation, try to actually feel the emotion that would come with this belief.
  • Visualize being this true version of yourself. Know that this is who you really are, you just need your subconscious mind to get on board!
  • Say each affirmation with intent and purpose. If your affirmations start to become a "chore", they will instantly lose their effectiveness.

Pro Tips

  • Say each affirmation as if it is already true. Your subconscious mind is most receptive to the present tense.
  • Believe each affirmation to be true, rather than hoping it will one day be true. "Fake it 'til you make it". Your subconscious mind will accept these statements much easier this way.
  • Spend at least 5 minutes per day per affirmation if you want to make any difference. It is for this reason that it's recommended to only have a few affirmations in the beginning.
  • Meditate! When in a meditative state, you are able to access your subconscious mind much easier. Doing Affirmations while in meditation is thought by many to increase their effectiveness by as much as ten times!
  • The average consensus is that it takes around 60-90 days for the subconscious mind to accept an affirmation as truth. You can not skip even one day, or the process will restart. Be consistent!
  • Once you have changed your belief effectively, don't stop affirming! This is where many go wrong. You are constantly picking up new beliefs from your everyday environment. To have lasting beliefs that you actually want, you must constantly maintain them.

Unleash Your Potential

When your realize that your thoughts and beliefs create your reality, you have within you an unlimited power to do absolutely anything. You must actively work to rid your mind of self doubt and fear. Once you achieve this, you are truly an unlimited being. You are given this power at birth, and it is waiting to be used!

This Is Why You Should Not Let Fear Hold You Back And Inhibit Your Greatness (By Tony Fahkry)

"How shall I rid myself of fear?"

"How can you rid yourself of what you cling to?"

"You mean I actually cling to my fears? I disagree."

"Consider what your fears protect you from and you will see your folly."

Anthony de Mello reminds us that our attachments to fear keeps us safe.

Reflect on it for a moment. You may hesitate to reveal your greatness because of the fear you will be found out to be an imposter.

Perhaps people won't like you.

Your life will change and you may lose friends, distance loved ones and have to take on a new persona to deal with your newfound success.

What you are really afraid of, is fear not greatness.

Welcome to a world where our fears are real. However, the greatest madness is to accept your thoughts as truth.

How can they be?

How can an organ weighing 1,400 grams know the truth when it cannot distinguish between a lie told by another person?

I want to share with you a story highlighting how truth can be distorted.

Several years ago, I worked with a sports psychologist in a mentoring role. We were discussing my childhood fear of water.

I was seven years old at the time and learning to swim with classmates. One particular day, we were instructed to jump into the deep end of the pool where we would be caught by a trained swim instructor.

However, my fear of swimming in the deep end overpowered me and I formed a belief I wasn't good enough given my inability to jump into water like the other children. The limiting belief (fear) stayed with me throughout adulthood because I believed it to be true.

One day during a mentoring session, the sports psychologist posed a question that challenged my belief and helped to uncover the truth.

"Tony, what would your seven-year-old self know about not being good enough?"

And there it was.

I had formed a distorted belief of my unworthiness at an impressionable age and kept it alive throughout adulthood because I believed my thoughts.

Don't let fear hold you back from stepping into your greatest because fear is nothing more than an illusion to keep you safe. Though being safe stifles your personal growth and limits your potential.

"Fundamentals can be taught, but greatness must be caught," writes Larry Weidel in Serial Winner: 5 Actions to Create Your Cycle of Success.

Fear is an imposter, a charlatan and a conniving intruder stealing your glory and inhibiting your freedom.

Don't buy into the storyline it promotes but rather use it to step into your own power and claim your truth about your worth.

So, every time fear makes itself known, move into it. Run towards it since it is not a Sumo wrestler trying to take you down.

It is nothing more than a cloud of white smoke not intended to unsettle you, nor overcome you.

Fear is a trickster and a stealer of greatness. It conceals your authentic self because you concede to the narrative it preaches.

Why not subscribe to this story instead: You are a talented, gifted and unique soul whose time is yet to come.

Impress that upon your mind and feed it the right images until it becomes your reality.

"Feel the fear and do it anyway," avows Susan Jeffers, and you will have silenced your demons.

Sick of Waiting? 4 Reasons Why You Can’t Manifest

You’re doing everything right…you couldn’t have made your intentions any clearer to the universe. You now consider yourself to be the poster boy/girl of positivity.
So what’s gone wrong?
When you feel you’ve put in all the work, and to no avail, it’s no wonder you’re left feeling discouraged. Here are the four most common reasons for when manifesting fails, to learn from, for greater manifesting success.

1) Stop Resisting
Fear is the biggest form of resistance. When you’re still holding onto some form of fear, whether it’s a fear of not having enough income, of not being good enough or that things won’t work out the way you’d hoped – you’re essentially building a brick wall between yourself and what you want most.
When you’re in a place of fear, your energies are negative ones. You’re emitting a frequency of lack, you’re trying to force things – and the universe will respond to this.
So, if you believed that you’d already cleared your negative energies but are yet to see the results you’d like, it’s time to dig a little deeper. How might you be standing in your own way? Is your mind stuck in the negative experiences of the past? Or is it always racing ahead of you, filled with anxieties for the future? If either are true for you, then you need to release these fears and learn how to be content in the present moment.
Remember – fear only exists in the mind and life is only what you make it. So make it positive.

2) Clear Out the Clutter

How do you expect to welcome positive changes into your life, when you’re still focusing on the negatives that are already there? Your mind is like a garden – when you want the flowers to grow, first you’ve got to pull out the weeds.
This ‘clutter’ can be found in many forms. Whether it’s a limiting belief you’ve held onto since childhood or the anger you’re still harboring towards an old friend, this emotional baggage will be consuming your energies.
You want to work towards raising your energies to become a vibrational match with the things you want to achieve. This requires stripping away any thought patters, behaviors or deep-rooted feelings that don’t support this.
So the next time you manifest an unwanted experience, rather than looking at it as a setback, use it as a learning opportunity. Ask yourself, how have you helped to co-create this experience with the universe? You then have the chance to resolve any limiting beliefs or negative thought patterns that come up…bringing you one step closer to your dream.

3) Trust the Universe

When you’re *this* close to achieving your dreams, doubt can begin to creep in. However, until you learn to overcome this and to have complete faith in the universe to deliver what you want, your dreams may remain just that.
Understandably, this sounds much easier said than it is done. After all, when you want something really badly, it’s difficult to keep your cool about things. What if it doesn’t come? What if it’s not what you’d expected? What if you’re not ready?
However, it is important to remember that nothing is about to manifest physically until it exists in the mind first. So hard as it is, relax, and trust the universe to do what it does best – listen to you.

4) Get in the Flow

You’ve stated your goals to the universe, you’ve worked to remove any resistance you’ve been harboring and have complete faith in the universe to bring you what you want most. So now it’s time to step out of your own way, and to let the universe do what it needs to do.
Lessen your need to fix and control every outcome. This part of the manifesting process is probably the most overlooked, but also the most important. Know that the cogs are already set in motion and that what you want is already on its way. Now it’s time to enjoy what you already have, in the here and now.
And what if your dream still doesn’t manifest? Then perhaps it just wasn’t meant to be, and instead, something even better is on its way…perhaps an even bigger dream that you’re unknowingly on the cusp of discovering?

3 Beliefs That Will Attract The Love Of Your Life

What if I told you your beliefs set the foundation for what you'll create in relationships? There was a time when I didn't know this, and the state of my relationships was proof that I was in the dark.
I used to struggle in romantic relationships — trying to get my needs met, trying not to get hurt! But the same patterns kept happening over and over again. No matter what, I'd end up feeling disempowered and disheartened, like I could never get the love I wanted.
This experience went on for years, until finally, during a particularly difficult time in my life, I had an insight about why my relationships weren't working. The insight was:
Relationships unfold based on your beliefs about yourself. Change what's happening inside of you, and your relationships will change, too.
Was it possible that my relationships were dysfunctional because of what I believed about myself and about love? Was it possible that if I changed myself, my experience in love would change, too?
Fast forward three years later and the answer is an undeniable yes!
Yes, your beliefs set the foundation for what you'll experience in relationships, and yes, when you change your beliefs, your experience in love changes, too.
Below are three major beliefs that will drastically shift your entire experience in love. Change what's happening inside of you, and your outside experience will change, too.
1. You have to believe in yourself.
People treat you the way you treat yourself, and the way you expect to be treated. This is why we repeat patterns over and over again; we expect something to happen, so it does. This is called a limiting (or dysfunctional) belief.
Think about this concept for a second: If you care about yourself, you won't stand for someone treating you poorly. It just doesn't happen; you stand up for yourself (the way you'd stand up for a good friend), and move on. But when your self-worth is lower than it should be, you end up accepting treatment that mirrors that low self-worth. This keeps you stuck in relationships that don't work for you!
The problem is that most of us don't treat ourselves the way we treat our friends. The way we think, feel, and behave toward ourselves can be pretty harsh!
In order to find incredible love with another person, you have to love and respect yourself. This means you have to treat yourself the way you want to be treated. Say kind things to yourself, do thoughtful things for yourself, listen to yourself, get to know yourself. Essentially, you're dating yourself, and you're in the honeymoon phase!
Make this major shift and your entire experience in relationships will shift, too.
2. You have to believe in potential partners.
Any pattern you continuously encounter in other people is a pattern that lives within you. While at first sight, it may seem like all men are unavailable, or all women try to control you, what's really happening in these situations is that you're coming up against an old belief system. A belief system that tells you relationships are going to turn out a certain way.
Our wounds become ingrained when we're young; this is why, as adults, we create dysfunctional patterns in relationships. Whatever your wounds are — whether you felt rejected, abandoned, insignificant, unheard, or trapped — you'll continue to experience the same dynamic in your adult relationships until you heal the wound and move beyond it.
So how do you heal? By treating yourself the way you want to be treated.
If you feel invalidated by others, you need to practice validating yourself.
If you feel trapped in relationships, you need to evaluate how you're trapping yourself (by not speaking your truth, by not showing up authentically), and change this.
If you feel rejected or abandoned, you need to show-up and love yourself, through thick and thin.
Any pattern you see in others is mirroring a limiting belief about how you expect to be treated in relationships. Heal yourself from the inside out, and your experience of others will drastically shift, too.
3. You have to believe in relationships.
It's easy for us to feel cyclical about relationships; we're surrounded by dysfunctional couples everywhere we look. In fact, culturally we're a little addicted to the drama.
But the truth is, being hyper-focused on the dysfunction in relationships will not lead to a healthy, happy relationship in your own life.It just won't.
If you don't believe you're capable of forming a mature, respectful, powerful, loving partnership, it's going to be really hard for you to do so.
While every relationship is difficult at times, partnerships are an amazing opportunity for us to feel connected, supported, loved and seen by another person.
When your beliefs are aligned to the highest potential, you create partnerships that are unbelievably fulfilling; when your beliefs are aligned to limits and dysfunction, then that's what you're going to see. The choice is yours.
Believe in the highest possibilities, strive for the highest possibilities, and anything you want can be yours.
