Does My Mentality Limit My Success

As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he - Proverbs 23:7

Some have said success is a mental thing. To the extent that it is virtually impossible to be a real success with a failure mentality that is true. But just how important is mentality to success? Can you really "Think and Grow Rich" like Napoleon Hill wrote in his world-famous book?

It is impossible to separate what we are in our core from what we believe about ourselves. We may say things that are different than what we believe but we cannot think things that are different than our beliefs. If you believe you can, you can; if you believe you can't, you can't. What you believe you will achieve in this lifetime.

Anytime a person sets out on a journey to become successful in any endeavor the first thing they must accept is the dream they have about being a success. They think they can do something; they imagine themselves doing it and soon their actions reflect what they have been thinking all along. Actions follow thought and when it comes to becoming a success actions follow intentional thought.

Success starts with a dream. We see in our minds eye an event or circumstance that involves what we are hoping for. I remember as a young man wanting to own a home. Didn't think it was possible. Then the building we were living in went up for sale and I was going to have to move soon. That prompted me to stop and consider what purchasing a home would entail. When I looked at the programs available for first time homebuyers, the cash involved (which I could have to close the deal) and the process it would take. I went over the idea with my wife and she jumped on board.

The process of (1) never thought about it (2) now I am thinking about it (3) how do I make this dream a reality is the thought process people who are now successful had to go through. Every great project begins with a dream. If you can see it, you can have it. But when it's out of mind it will remain out of sight. The goal of becoming successful is to utilize the concepts of visualization, repetition and faith in your ability to accomplish anything you set your mind to do.

It's not the man with skills or intellect or experience that ultimately wins; it's the man who thinks he can, regardless of the obstacles and difficulties he must endure to get there.

True Success Can Be Duplicated (By Jeffery Davis)

I have spent many years of my career in the sales industry (Real Estate and Insurance) and when you find people doing extremely well the tendency is to want to experience the same level of success. The good news is that desire is not only appropriate but reasonable. The bad news is when you want to follow in another person's footsteps the path is not clearly outlined. This makes it very hard to obtain.

Think about things we love to duplicate; a recipe for example. KFC chicken does not taste like Popeyes or El Pollo Loco because the recipes used vary in their ingredients. It's all chicken but the taste is different. Success is the same way. Many people experience success but the recipe they use is not the same.

The reason true success must be duplicated is if you are successful today but cannot repeat the process tomorrow then your success ends. No one wants that. Winners like winning and want to win over and over and over again. To do that you must have a way to duplicate yesterday's success so you can repeat it over and over again. If not you will become known as a "one hit wonder" who actually experienced success by luck not skill.

There are many programs on the market that claim to offer a system for success. These systems are marketed by very smart guys who focus on the process and the steps. Many time their credibility can be summed up in "I was very successful in this process and I have developed this system to help you enjoy the same success." The only problem is most people who develop systems designed to educate do not have an idea of how people learn differently and very few people have ever found success by reading a program filled with forms.

To duplicate success a system is needed. But the one to develop that system must not only be the one who has experienced success but the one who has analyzed the steps necessary to become a success, knows the mentality associated with obtaining that success and can lead others to follow the exact footsteps they took to get there. It is not possible to create the success of others when you leave out vital steps in the learning process. However when there is a real observation of the principles that cause any of us to become successful the steps are clearer and can be imitated by others.

Why Are So Few of Us Truly Successful (By Jeffery Davis)

Success for many appears to be a fleeting event, one that passes by but is not readily accessible. For some it's a dream that is out there so far away it can never become a reality. For others it is the prize we are entitled to but have to work so hard to get. Being successful is not something people want to avoid; it just always seems out of reach.

The truth is finding lasting success is not realized because the path to becoming successful is not told in its entirety. When you study success principles many of them focus on your mentality, your activity and overcoming belief systems that keep us from being successful. If all it took to be successful was having the right mentality the world would be full of successful people.

True success begins before the journey for being successful starts. Here are a couple of factors that have influenced success for many in the past:

• Parents who speak success over their children from an early age - some households promote successful thinking for their children from birth. This habit helps to instill within the child that success is not an option but a right. It helps them to enter the world looking for that opportunity to have doors open for them.

• Parents who encourage creativity and imagination - these types of parents help children to see the possibilities that have yet to be created. Companies like Facebook, Apple and Amazon all came into being because someone used their imagination to create a reality that makes society better.

• Generational wealth passed down to children- Many families (Walton's, Hilton's, and Trumps) have children who benefited from the wealth their parents and grandparents created. Many of these children grow up to become a part of the family business and never know what it's like to work for someone else or apply for a job like the rest of us who don't benefit from generational wealth have to accomplish.

• Growing up in the absence of lack- it is very hard for children who grew up not knowing what it means to lack for anything to relate to families that have to work for everything they have and have experienced the pain of lack. It is very hard to conceive what it is like to live without when you have never had to do that.

• Having healthy success expectations set - I remember teaching a Sunday school class in my church years ago to a group of 6-8th graders. We had a career day and each child had a chance to get up before the class and share their dreams for their future. One boy who came from an affluent family made this statement; "I don't know yet what I will be when I grow up but I know whatever I choose I will be successful. My parents told me that and I believe them." This positive reinforcement does not go on in most homes but successful children many times come from successful families.

Slave Mentality

Man in Blue Crew Neck Shirt

When a person thinks and lives their life with the intent of being a slave or working for someone throughout their entire life and never being free from that is slave mentality. Most of us were subconsciously trained and taught to think this way because of the actions of our ancestors. And not only do many of us think this way but have accepted it as a way of life. After all, it's crazy to think that you will ever be free, right? Most people don't plan on living long lives, so they don't plan on not working to survive, so essentially they plan to work their entire lives.

Most people don't save their money. Most people don't have the discipline to save their money. For some crazy reason, people think about dying when they get a little bit of money and start to think that they may die before they get to spend that money. They win the lottery, they get an inheritance, a bonus and they go on a shopping spree. A common saying/thought process is that you can't take the money with you when you die. That's what rich people want you to think. But... who cares about that, most people just feel better spending their hard-earned money. Don't get me wrong, saving money doesn't really make money, but at least the money is not being wasted and it's there when there is a real need for it or a real investment opportunity shall arise. It's OK to have money in the bank.

Most people don't invest their money. Material items, such as; electronics, clothing, furniture, appliances, cars, car accessories, etc... are not investments, but worthless merchandise once purchased. The longer these products are possessed, the more worthless they get. Many people tend to purchase products that are more expensive, because they believe that they are better products, and sometimes that is true, but most of the time, it is not true. With all the different name brands to choose from, most people have convinced themselves that the more expensive the better it is, which is simply, not true. Besides that, even if it is a better working product, it may not even pertain to your particular need(s) and at the end of the day, it is still just as worthless as the less expensive product. A house is an investment. Not only can it be worth more in the future, but it can also provide housing in the meantime. Many people won't even consider it, because of many personal reasons, but as long as we pay rent we are making someone else rich and paying their mortgage/investment. Stocks and 401k plans are a good investment, but many people choose not to participate in planning for the future. Many companies are even willing to match a percentage of contributions made.

Many people live check to check, but that should be a temporary thing. If a person is spending/wasting most of their daily income, then it's slave mentality, because they are living above their means. People should not have to live check-to-check for years, but many people get accustomed to this life-style and they accept it as a way of life. So, even when they do get a little extra money they go out and blow it on something worthless. A person can actually survive making minimum wage, but they would have to cut a lot of corners, skip a few meals, and buy the least expensive everything, but that should be a temporary thing. There is no way a person should work for minimum wage for over a year working in the same industry. As a matter of fact, a person should not work for the same wage for over a year, because experience is gained every day, every month, every year, which means a person should be worth more every single year. Most of the time, nowadays, the cost of living goes up every year, so if you're not getting a raise to accommodate basic economic needs then you're actually making less.

Bad habits are the worst for most people, because no matter what else happens, the bad habit addiction has to happen. Whether it's drugs, alcohol, gambling, porn, eating or whatever it may be, it costs money and time, yet it's going to happen. While the bad habit is being performed no income is being generated. The whole thing with bad habits is to waste time, until it's time to go back to that horrible job that you love and cherish, where you have to work and be a slave and do things that you don't want to do. It's really the main reason for the bad habit. So instead of trying to make life better for themselves they find a better way to deal with or justify continuing their misery, because I guess... they believe they can't do any better.

Just for the record, no matter how old a person is, schooling is always an option. Learn a new trade. Obtain a personal computer. It never ceases to amaze me at how many people don't own a personal computer.

Growing up, many of us were taught that life is what you make it to be. Only you have the power to change your life. I like to believe that we work to live, and not live to work. We were not put on this earth to work for others or be someone's slave, by no means. RIGHT?

The Philosophy of the Mind, Mindset and Mentality

Woman Holding Two Ropes in Gym

It is important for people, who are serious about reflecting on the issue of the mind and its associated issues of the body. It is defined that the basis of Philosophy of the Mind is the branch of philosophy that studies the nature of the mind (mental events, mental functions, mental properties and consciousness) and its relationship to the physical body. It intersects to some extent with the fields of neurobiology, computer science and psychology. It is also interesting, at this juncture, to evaluate an aspect of theory of mind. It is stated that 'Theory of the Mind', is the social cognitive ability to explain and predict other people's actions in terms of the underlying mental states, such as beliefs, intentions, or feelings.

Baron-Cohen is a Professor of Developmental Psychopathology who proposed the empathizing/systematizing theory of psychological sex differences. He emphasizes that females are more disposed to an empathizing style and males are more disposed to a systematizing style. Consciously and sub-consciously both genders progressively streamline their efforts to draw meaningful results to find out which effect is more pronounced in the daily lives of human beings. Therefore, it is logical to study the relationship of the mind and mind-set with a variance of mentality. Thus, the mentality, eventually, becomes a pivotal point either good or bad subjectively.

All creatures are created on "The Fitrat"; it is an Arabic word and it means original creation without an analogy. It has an ingrained quality that likes truth and good. It rejects all malign and untruth until such that the arrogance and ignorance overpower the mind. The deviation has its impact, yet the 'The Fitrat' constantly remind the human beings its repercussions. However, the human mind which is polluted with arrogance and impertinence finally leads towards disaster.

Analyzing the above scenario, which leads to environmental forces playing a dominant role affecting human behavior. Since God has also bestowed human beings' wisdom and knowledge, hence, human has a choice to select and rejects what his mind dictates. Subsequently, it develops a mentality which suits his desires finally shaping the personality of men and women accordingly.

A question arises about how a mind affects the personality; If so, then in what way? Again, how it shapes the mentality? Human behavior indicates that the structure of brain correlates with their activities. The brain is directly proportional to personality and it is substantiated by Collin De Young and his team at University of Minnesota. They further stated, "Experiences change the brain as it develops, and those changes in the brain can change personality."

Dr. Daniel Siegel coined the term "mindset" to describe the human capacity to perceive the mind of the self and others. A mindset is a relationship between the mind and brain and these factors collectively evolve the mentality. It differs with every individual subject to their upbringing with respective dwellings within the parameters of cultural, social and family values.

It is important to understand why some individuals from poor dwellings, who, after, marriage is living in economically affluent environments remain introvert and perverted. Their past still haunts their behavior which is subconsciously governed by their poor mentality. Thus, their martial, live in affluent families failed to make a dent on a positive note. Hence, the relationship within their post marital environment conspicuously shows unhappy and bickering. In many cases, it drastically affects children and relationships among respective families.

It is said that being a poor person is not bad, but having a poor mentality is a disaster. This typical camouflage scenario will expose the truth lying beneath the façade of superficial mask. Here, those people who are responsible to adjust and maintained the situations in a harmony often failed miserably because of dubious thinking and arrogance. It is appropriate to, quote, "The mind is a beautiful servant; a dangerous master." (The source of this quote is unknown)

Start Strong Or Finish Strong - Which Approach Do You Think Is Better? (By a Public Speaker)

And your opinion is...

Since I'll wager you already have an opinion the real question is - are you open and receptive to another viewpoint? If not - get back to work or play - whatever - but if you are, read on.

During the early years in my career as a speaker I was told by many of my peers that I needed a strong start as the end of my career was many years into the future - "Don't worry about that now" they would all say. Then as the years passed people started telling me it was how I finished that mattered. OK so which is it - or is it both?

In sports they call it the "quick start" approach. In other words, the team that scored first tended to win the game - call it momentum or whatever. Many coaches still teach this concept. Now, I'm not saying they are wrong but if you start strong and your competitor regains momentum - then what?

Yes, starting strong will tend to create positive momentum but the real challenge is keeping it going. But, here's the issue - if you start strong and then stuff happens; a recession, economic uncertainty, buyer trends, new products or technologies, new competitors etc. are you able to overcome these and keep moving strong?

Since the beginning of my speaking career in 1973 - yes long gas lines if you are old enough to remember - I have weathered four recessions or whatever you want to call them. I started strong but four times my momentum slowed down and even almost came to an end on two occasions. Keeping momentum wasn't easy or in some cases took everything I had just kept plodding along. So, my strong start at this stage meant nothing in the grand scheme of things. So, now what? Well, all I have left is to end strong. Does that mean starting over? No. But it does mean a "reinvent" mindset or mentality? Yes.

OK, so you are in the sunset years but not quite ready to call it quits as you still have some years in front of you. Can you still finish strong or even finish at all? It depends. On what you ask? It depends on courage, confidence, skill, perseverance and a willingness to "reinvent" yourself, your life, your career and/or your business.

Or, you are in the early stages of your career or a business and filled with hope, optimism and big plans. Trust me - sooner or later you will have to deal with some kinds of obstacles that can derail you or even cause you to consider quitting. It's a choice folks and often not an easy one.

So the answer to the title question from my perspective is - both. Start strong and end strong and in between - just keep evaluating, revisiting, improving, growing, changing and never letting go of your goal, dream or desire no matter how the years may change or modify it or how circumstances cause you to consider a "reinvent" option.
