How To Be A Creator Of Circumstances

How to be a creator of circumstances rather than letting things just happen to you, is an idea that enters your mind when you realize that your thoughts somehow shape the reality you experience. Of course, opinions and beliefs influence the world around you, but how they affect you is your choice.

But if the answer is so simple, why isn't everyone doing it? Why aren't most people successful or happy? What is the difference between a creator and a creature of circumstances?

Circumstances are often attributed to things beyond our control. It is a word we often use to prove, describe or explain the situation we are in at present or in the past. But when you think in this way, you then are a creature of what is happening around you. Situations control you when it should be the other way around.

When you want to become successful or get something, you have to believe in your abilities. But you also need to realize that you control your thoughts. Thus you can shape your circumstances. It is the only way I know how to build a life, where you do what you want to do. And it takes knowledge, obligations, awareness, belief, risk, intuition and hard but smart work.

"Successful people are one hundred percent convinced that they are the masters of their own destiny. They are not creatures of circumstances, they create circumstances, and if the circumstances around them suck, they change them." - Jordan Belfort, the Wolf of Wall Street.

Creature of Circumstances

Just look at the present circumstances in your life, which are in control and which are you directing? When you search deep enough, you may find that while many are a result of the habits and choices you made over the years. Others are the consequence of other people's beliefs, preferences, and decisions.

So, how they affect, touch and impact you are your decision. Let's say that you had a bad experience with a cat when you were younger. And so, it creates a fear which makes you decide never to touch or get close to cats again. Believe me when I tell you that any animal sense the fear you have of them, and it reinforces it by their reaction when they are close to you.

As a result, you avoid cats and refuse to get near them. In this way, it also makes your social life tricky as you have a hard time visiting friends who have cats. You may even avoid certain places or cross the street as soon as you see one. In this instance, you became a creature of circumstances because your lousy experience made you a slave to a habit which has created different situations for you.

Two Types of People - Creator and Creature

Therefore, in this world, there are only two kinds of persons:

  1. People who are a creator of circumstances and turn everything they want into reality.
  2. The rest who are creatures of circumstances which is no other than 95% of the population and gets little to nothing.

Do you really want to be known as the person, who settles, goes through life barely making it, being satisfied with what you get and accepting what happens? Or do you want to be great and successful, and have a legacy and a reputation as someone who is a warrior in life?

Well, personally, I am a person who wants to make an impact and is a creator of his own world. So, you have to be an architect that creates his own life and designs it, despite all obstacles. You should strive to be a creator of circumstances instead of a creature of it. I know, I know- easier said than done. But do you have a better choice in mind?

How to Be a Creator of Circumstances

In the past, I was at times a creature to some of the circumstances life offered me. And I know you have to or still do. It is no fun at all as one grows resentful. But in the times where I won, I realize I created and controlled all of my circumstances. So how can you go from a creature to a creator?

First of all, if you change your thoughts, you will begin to alter your circumstances. Most people react to conditions or situations thinking that they have no control over them. It is true to some degree! There are various things that you cannot control. Stuff like who your relatives are or specific physical features you have.

But rather than letting the circumstances mold you, you have to be the one who changes the conditions of life that surround you. You can think, analyze and figure out whether you want to accept the situation or replace it. So, you are the creator of your circumstances, even if you do like it or don't.

Habits and Circumstances

In fact, most of your circumstances are a result your choices and decisions in life. If you take the time to search the source or cause of the reason you are in your situation, you might find out that you chose or decided what brought you there. But again, you must realize that unconscious habits have a significant role to play in the circumstances you create for yourself.

Therefore, these habits reinforce and support your beliefs, views, and principles. And it becomes even harder to change. Deep-rooted habits and circumstances are somehow intertwined. So you have to work on your inner self to change your outer world. You have to replace some habits with better ones.

However, too many people accept the status quo and refuse to go against the flow, out of fear. Everyone wants change, but not many want to change. When you look at the world around you, you can see what I am talking about here. To be a creator of circumstances, you have to go against the flow.

Creators Change the World

What happens when people who have enough do something about it? They change the world. I never settled very often in my life, and when I did, I rebelled against it after a while. Life is not about giving in but about fighting back.

On the other hand, so many people use circumstances to justify or excuse why they are the way they are. It is much easier to blame someone or something for the bad that happens or for the failures than to look within.

So, start to be honest with yourself. Ask yourself what the worst thing that could happen, if you become the creator of your circumstances, is. Focus on the best-case scenario instead of looking at the worst one. Great things happen to those who believe and take action.

Most of the time, the probability of success is on your side. Visualize what you want. Take action every day. Build momentum. The choice is yours but remember; it is better to be a creator of circumstances than to be a creature of situations which dictate your life.

It's A Mind Thing (By Jana Hicks)

Having a healed soul begins with having a healed mind. The soul house your mind, will, and emotions. I am in the life long process of healing my soul. When I got saved/born again my awareness of the damage and trauma in my soul became heightened as my relationship with God and His word continued to grow in my life. My thinking was so messed up. I cried out to God to help me because I didn't know how I was going to make it pass all of the trauma in my soul. With each experience and with each loss of family members back to back parts of me became deeply wounded by the losses. Three of the losses was my 3 siblings. After my youngest brother passed I didn't know how I was going to come out of all the trauma.

As I prayed about it God started showing me through different ministers that it is my thinking and changing the negative thoughts rooted deeply in my neural pathways with the word of God. Even though I know the word it was going to take a deeper work to heal my mind. Thoughts are everywhere and if you do not cast them down you will keep fighting them to a place where it can wear you out.

As 2 Corinthians 10:5 (The Voice) tell us what to do with a negative mindsets:

We are demolishing arguments and ideas, every high-and-mighty philosophy that pits itself against the knowledge of the one true God. We are taking prisoners of every thought, every emotion, and subduing them into obedience to the Anointed One.

I learned through a well-known minister Dr. Juanita Bynum how to change my brain. Even my Pastor A.R. Bernard taught on it. God was speaking loud to me! As I began to apply what I was learning the darkness in my soul was giving way to the light of the word of God. This is a lifetime process and you will have moments when it feels as you took steps backwards but don't give up on the process of taking control of how you think. Here are a few steps to follow I have learned and will work as long as you stay consistent in applying them:

1. You have 10 seconds before a negative thought becomes yours. Replace that thought with positive new information/thought - the word of God.

2. It takes 12 pieces of positive information to remove one negative thought

3. Negative thoughts are going to come make sure you don't let them make a nest in your head.

4. Screen your thoughts and think about what your thinking.

5. Don't just let your mind wander all over the place

6. Meditate on the word of God to help push out the negative.

Romans 12:2 (New International Version) States:

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will.

You are the sum total of your thoughts this motto rings so true "A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Waste" so don't waste it.

Quote: Positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will - Zig Ziglar

Our Freedom of Choice

No one has power over our minds!

Regardless of our current situation and experiences. Regardless of our heritage, our belief systems and values, or our historical conditioning through religion, family, society or education!

It doesn't matter where we have been or where we come from, our minds are our own!

Unfortunately as a result of these influences, factors and experiences we do not exercise our freedom of choice as we should, and for the most part we default to our existing state of conditioning, which unfortunately is more often than not limited to an inferior level... a level way below what our true potential can accomplish!

FORMULA FOR OPTIMUM SUCCESS AND OUTCOMES

For every situation or dealing, we are exposed to, we find ourselves presented with the following equation:

EVENT/INTERACTION + RESPONSE = OUTCOME

  • The event/interaction. Better referred to as a stimulus, could be either negative or positive. In fact, most of times they are neutral events imposed upon us by an external force or a person, known or unknown! This is an action that is commonly referred to as 'happening to me'. This is something we have no control over.
  • The response. This portion is all us! This is what we do following the event or interaction being imposed on us. This is entirely an internal driven, individual action.
  • The outcome. The resultant condition, emotion, environment or atmosphere that pervades when all is said and done.

In order to develop a deeper awareness, we can take the above equation and expand on it as follows:

EVENT/INTERACTION + [FREEDOM OF CHOICE] + RESPONSE = OUTCOME

We can develop the awareness that we have a window of opportunity, regardless of how small it may be, to make a choice prior to issuing a response.

This choice will determine whether we react or respond, how we perceive the EVENT/INTERACTION along with the importance that is placed upon the it.

Whatever happens though, we have to engage our Freedom of Choice and take better control over what influences we will feed into our response and therefore have a greater impact on the collective outcome.

INCREASED AWARENESS EQUALS INCREASED EXPERTISE

As this mindfulness of how our freedom of choice can greatly influence our outcomes, it is important to begin to develop an understanding of what influences our freedom of choice.

These can be:

  • Our awareness of the situations or environment that the person, group, or external influence is coming from or exposed to.
  • Our awareness of our own capabilities in relation to what we are being confronted with in conjunction with an awareness of how the interaction or event will impact on our own personal situation.
  • Our existing level of knowledge in relation to the
  • Our understanding of the other people or groups that have initiated a response.
  • Our beliefs. Do they correspond to the influence or are they being challenged? Will our beliefs be compromised, exposed or validated at the outset of the interaction?
  • Our Expectations. Are they being met or are they being let down or subordinated to some degree?
  • Our desires. What are we pursuing, both big picture and to the short-term needs and requirements? Does this interaction move us into the path or vibration of our desires or is it a disruption, negative or positive?

Effectively the influences over our freedom of choice in the situations we find ourselves in is going to be dependent, largely on the resources we have absorbed or utilised over and also the capacity we have created for ourselves through study, personal development and self-improvement study!

THE BENEFITS AND BLESSINGS

The value of positively engaging our freedom of choice can progress our situation and move us into a more focused and healthier vibration.

This can be demonstrated by:

  • Serenity: we can maintain a wonderful composure that demonstrates a higher level of wisdom and self-control! Knowing that what others impose on us does not affect us, if we choose and this in turn reinforces a wonderful confidence in ourselves as well as our progressing abilities!
  • Not being rushed: following from serenity is an expansion on the composure we radiate by ensuring that the appropriate time for all things is taken. This helps us greatly from 'blowing a fuse' at the smallest thing!
  • Peace: in harmony with serenity is the peace and stillness that pervades within our mental and emotional capabilities.
  • Humility. Knowing, that with an increased awareness is that we are not better than the initiating person or force, just different and this position of humility allows all confrontation to be broken down, but also (in a positive interaction) allows us to know that we can always learn and grow, and therefore harvest the best learning experience possible!
  • Discipline. This is a vital benefit as without sound discipline, self-control and the ability to learn new skills will not manifest. The disciplines we can radiate will be apparent as follows: All our actions are aligned to our specific purpose. We improve in our bbility to set meaningful priorities. There is an ever-increasing ability to sacrifice the good (instant gratification) for the great. We do not give in short term emotions at the expense of long-term growth!

So, I encourage you to take a deeper reflection on your current level of self-control and grow in the understanding of how this can always provide an advantage... regardless of the interaction!

At invinciblemind, we believe in the unlimited potential of the mind and are striving to share the life-changing effects of a renewed mind!

What Is Self Awareness and Tips on How to Develop It

Self-awareness is how you consciously know and understand your own character, feelings, motives, and desires.

What does self-awareness mean? In practical terms self-awareness means:

  • Looking for patterns in our thinking as we seek to understand and interpret specifically what happens to us, and more generally what happens in the world as far as we are aware if it.
  • Looking at how we ascribe meaning and value to those things.
  • Gaining insight into our emotions, moods, reactions and responses.
  • Paying attention to our default responses, and our ingrained habitual tendencies.

What is the purpose of self-awareness? The purpose of self-awareness is to realise personal benefits, such as:

  • Clarity of thought
  • More effective communication
  • Improved decision-making
  • Improved relationships
  • Improved moods
  • Increased personal productivity

What Is Self Awareness & How To Develop It?

[1] Pay attention to what bothers you about other people

Sometimes the things that irritate you in other people can be a reflection of some aspect you dislike in yourself and thus an area for you to work on.

Also, it can be because they think and process things differently to the way you do, and this can be a prompt you to re-evaluate and upgrade your understanding of their "type" [see 8. below]

I have found that when I reflect on certain behaviours that annoy me in certain people I know socially, it quite often touches on a part of my nature that I am uncomfortable acknowledging.

[2] Pay attention to what bothers other people about you

On occasions you meet and interact with people who for reasons not apparent to you will take an instant and strong dislike to you.

I recall some years ago being very disturbed to discover that there was some man in my social circle called Mike who had an intense dislike of me. I was totally unaware of this at the time and was only made aware of this when another mutual contact happened to mention that he was anxious about an upcoming social gathering because this man and I were both attending the same event.

When I asked him as to why he was concerned he said: "... but Stephen, don't you know that Mike has real issues with you... ?"

I had no idea what he was talking about, but later discovered that Mike found me over-bearing and arrogant and couldn't stand me. I was shocked, because I had no idea about this and couldn't recall any incident or situation that I was aware of, where I may have behaved in this way towards him.

What I eventually discovered was that the issues were on Mike's side and he was reacting to my positive and confident nature, and because I was an articulate confident sales man at the time he felt threatened by just being around me...

The immediate take away from that incident was to make me more self-aware of how others may perceive me and to try and be more sensitive.

Now, years later, I have become acutely aware that sometimes I can cause a reaction in people just by being in a room. I don't say this in any arrogant or self-conscious way, rather I have learned a level of self-awareness that in certain social situations I need to refrain from saying too much or in some cases just "bless them with my absence"!

[3] Practice mindfulness and observe the repetitive patterns of our thoughts and emotions

Thich Nhat Hanh teaches us how to develop awareness by recognising that our true home is not in the past and it is not in the future. Our true home is in the here and the now.

With mindfulness practise you will understand that what matters is not the content of your thoughts but your relationship with your thoughts.

This then leads to the realisation that you are not your thoughts.

[4] Know your emotional triggers

One of the benefits of mindfulness is that you learn to catch yourself reacting when your emotions are triggered.

Having practised mindfulness for about 15 years now I can certainly vouch for the way in which this practice helps me to become painfully and regularly aware of my emotional trigger points.

For example, I am incredibly impatient with other drivers on the road who are (in my view) dithering and driving way too slowly. My reactions are so predictable yet that is one area that I have not yet managed to control!

On bigger issues to do with relationships and things that occur in business I have learned to anticipate my reactions and not engage with my feelings and let them pass.

[5] Ask for feedback and listen

Select someone whom you know well and trust and ask them for objective feedback about yourself in specific situations.

I have asked for feedback from my family and close work associates occasionally, and what I have noticed is the difference between how I think I am talking to people and how they are actually receiving it!

For example, I am told that I frequently adopt a rather curt and bossy style and say things in a way that comes across as though I am telling people what to do. Whereas inside my head, I always feel that I am being very reasonable and helpful!

I understand that this is about tone. Clearly this is a big disconnect between my internal perception of my communication style and the way it is received!

I can't say that I get it right all the time now, but at least I now have an awareness of the problem and can try to take conscious action to amend it.

[6] Try different experiences - travel or learn a new skill

Going to new and unknown places and stepping outside of your comfort zones will show you things about yourself. This may be something major like international travel or simply taking on a new interest interacting with a different set of people to your usual crowd.

I have found that working in Singapore and travelling extensively throughout South East Asia and meeting, working with and socialising with people from many different backgrounds has challenged me and helped me in many different ways, and has definitely increased my self-awareness.

Contrary to what I expected when I first went to the region, I have learned that as human beings, despite our considerable ethnic and cultural differences, we all have far more in common than surface differences would suggest, and there is far more that unites us than divides us. We all share the same basic needs and have the same broad aspirations for ourselves and our loved ones.

Living, working and socialising under different political regimes is initially very challenging and I have found many of my previous "certainties" very challenged. One of the biggest things I have become aware of is how limited my original perspectives were. Seeing life through the lens of any one of a number of different regimes in S.E Asia causes me to re-examine and rethink some of previous certainties.

One quick example is Vietnam. Spending time there and immersing myself in the modern history and culture of Vietnam has considerably changed my view on communism.

In the past I have always seen communism as a negative influence on a country, and I am old enough to remember the days when Ho Chi Minh was regarded in the west as a rabble-rousing communist threat.

However, seeing first-hand the impact of years of oppression initially under the French followed by the American War [as it is referred to in Vietnam], I can now understand that Ho Chi Minh and communism were the "only show in town" at that time.

That is not so say that I now approve of, or support, communism because I don't, but I can now see why at that time it probably was the necessary vehicle for galvanising resistance to western oppression.

As a footnote, to any US readers who may take offence at what I saying, I respectfully suggest you spend half a day in the War Remnants [aka the War Crimes] Museum in Ho Chi Minh and see first-hand the horrendous and lasting impact on the peoples of Vietnam from US use of Agent Orange, and the lasting ecological damage to the landmass of North Vietnam.

I say the "lasting impact" on the people because there are still children being born with horrendous deformities as a direct result of the genetic damage done to their parents through the indiscriminate use of extremely large quantities of Agent Orange.

It is estimated that c1-1.5mill Vietnamese people are still directly affected by it. There is not a family network in modern Vietnam who do not have at least one present generation family member disfigured or damaged by the use of this in the America/Vietnam war.

[7] Take psychometric tests

Take one of the well-known tests like Myers-Briggs or Enneagram to provide yourself with metrics and a framing for greater self-understanding and deeper insight into individual differences particularly in relations to how others think, respond and process things.

This one was a real game changer for me! For many years of my adult life I just could not see how or why other people couldn't see what I could see, why they couldn't assess situations - especially in business- and see exactly what needed to be done [or least what I thought needed to be done]!

One day I discovered the Myers Briggs framework of personality types, and what a revelation! As I scrolled through the summary overview of the key characteristics of the 16 types I could see with painful clarity just how differently we do all think and process things. I also discovered that my dominant type was one which only typifies a small percentage of people. So no wonder I was usually so out of step with most other people around me when it came to thinking styles.

I appreciate the ridiculousness of what I am sharing here, a businessman in his mid forties finally figuring out why most people didn't think like him, but that was my reality.

Ever since then, I have tried to put considerable effort into trying to evaluate and take account of these individual differences.

[8] Make time to clarify your values

Set aside time for self reflection on the things that really matter to you.

Why are you here? What are you called to do? What makes for a fulfilling life that you can be truly proud of?

I was sitting in a bar in Singapore a while ago with a bunch of expat friends enjoying some beers and a chat. The conversation took an interesting turn when one of them suddenly asked the group:

"If you knew you were going to die tonight and you were given a few minutes to reflect before that happened, what would you say was the meaning of your life?"

On hearing that question I suddenly had a moment of clarity and I realised that for me the answer was (and remains):

"What difference will you make? What impact will you leave in the lives of others?"

Uncomfortable, Edgy, Indecisive? Access Your Emotional Centerline

What do you do in moments when you feel uncomfortable and edgy, but you're not quite sure why or what to do about it? In this article, you'll learn a simple technique to get to the heart of what you're feeling and discover the message in it, so you can take action to move you forward.

So, what's your first inclination when you feel edgy? Do you want to take something to make the feeling go away? Do you distract yourself by focusing on something else? Do you look for something that happened, something you did, or someone to blame? Do you analyze it until you come up with a story that makes sense?

All these are natural inclinations which can have value. These strategies may alleviate or take your mind off of symptoms in the short run. Yet they may also perpetuate the recurrence of this very same feeling again and again. Identifying with the stories we tell about our experiences can make them stick and repeat. We tend to believe our stories and tell them again and again, so our life replays in a self-fulfilling loop.

So, what can you do in these uncomfortable moments that would change things, guide you forward, and initiate something new? Here's a simple technique called Accessing Your Emotional Centerline.

The moment you notice yourself feeling edgy and uncomfortable, instead of jumping right into analyzing it and coming up with a story to explain it, see if you can just sit with the sensation, be present with it, and get underneath it.

Try these four steps:

1. Insert a mental pause, let go of thinking, and pay attention to the sensations along your Emotional Centerline: from your neck, through the middle of your torso, to your lower abdomen. Putting your palms together in prayer posture, as in the picture above, can help you tune into this centerline. Focusing on sensations along your Emotional Centerline quiets the thinking mind and enables you to access your emotions without the baggage of intense storylines.

Inquire into the specific sensations within this area of your body. Is it tight, compressed, blocked, hard, hot, cold, numb, pierced, deflated, sinking, empty, raw, tingly, fluttering, rising... ?

2. Pay attention to these sensations mindfully. In other words, see if it's possible to accept the sensations completely, unconditionally, and non-judgmentally. See if you can become familiar with the felt sensation without telling a story about it or being consumed by it.

3. See if you can label the exact feeling the sensation represents. You'll sense a "yes" when you have the right label. Is it anger, sadness, fear, anxiety, joy, excitement,... ?

4. Once you've identified the emotion you are feeling, ask what it is prompting you to do. Focus into the sensation along your Emotional Centerline and address your question here. Notice what comes into your awareness. It could be a nonverbal knowing, specific words, an image, a song, or an inspiration to do, say, or feel something... Just notice what arises, stay with it, and allow it to grow in clarity. See where it leads.

If nothing arises in this moment, see if you can maintain an awareness of your Emotional Centerline as you go about your day. Notice what you become aware of as you do this.

As you practice these four steps again and again, you'll find you can catch yourself before you get too deeply entrenched in uncomfortable, edgy feelings or overly-identified with your usual stories about what they mean. You'll discover there's a deeper guidance under the surface of your emotions. Emotional intelligence cuts through mental chatter and speaks to the essence of what you need to do in this moment. Sometimes this wisdom is vastly different from the stories your mind is in the habit of telling.

True Beauty: Honor the God or Goddess in You (By Tina Tessina)

Extreme makeovers are all the rage these days, with botox injection parties, and reality shows. Plastic surgery is on the rise. Many people are trying to match the extraordinary measures actors and actresses go through to look perfect on the screen. These are shortcuts taken to try to create happiness with a scalpel, a diet, or an implant, and they don't fulfill their promise. Beautiful people are not automatically happy people.

Diva-dom, god-ness, is just a way of expressing the goal of the human quest-to attain the highest expression of the beautiful being you are is not about sex, or perfection, and you can't get there via technology. It's a growth process, a transformation of self through awareness and learning. It's about meaning, and being real. It's an emotional and spiritual walk, and it requires faith fueled with liberal doses of loving kindness.

Every day, I have the delight and privilege of loving Richard, my husband, a real, human, fallible man. We're about the same age, he's losing hair, I've gained weight. But, after almost 20 years, we have fused our hearts and souls, if not our personalities. He clearly loves me, though I often frustrate him, and I am grateful for his presence in my life on a daily basis. Our sex life is lovely, thank you, even if it doesn't match movie fantasies. We laugh together, we share the struggles of daily life together, and the thought that he might die before I do fills me with dread. All the buffed up male models in the world couldn't replace my very own, live and kicking, formerly red-haired leprechaun. It took me 37 years to find him, and I'm not about to replace him with so-called "perfection".

My friends and I are no more perfect. We can be cranky, we occasionally carelessly hurt each others' feelings, they don't always say the right thing. But, we are here for each other when we're really needed, we do our best to be caring and kind, and we forgive each others' imperfections.

Perfection, particularly media perfection, is highly overrated. Clients come to my psychotherapy office every day in considerable emotional pain because their lives aren't "perfect" enough. They feel inadequate, dissatisfied, hopeless and frustrated because they can't attain life as they see it on the big screen. I have to break the news that those people up there have problems in their real lives, too, and refocus my clients on accomplishing normal things that work for them..

All the face creams, cardio workouts, healthy diets, Prozac and meditation tapes in the world aren't going to make their lives, their bodies, or their mental state much better. Life is not about remaining young and photogenic. It's about growing your soul.

The only way I know to develop my soul is through feelings. Awe at natural phenomena (the star-lit heavens, a centuries-old redwood, the gorgeous flowers of the Mandevilla vine at my gate) stretches it, making me yearn and aspire. Human relationships bruise, batter and comfort it, teaching me resilience and humility. Love urges my soul to blossom and glow, compassion causes it to blur at the edges, and so I learn to accept others as they are.

The humans in my life are not the narcissistic, self-absorbed "beautiful people" of the screen. We're ordinary, real, imperfect people, like you-the ones who really keep this country and the world going. Together, we work hard at life, trying to be our best selves, taking care of our families and each other, and striving to bring our personal ethics and aspirations alive in the world. We come from numerous backgrounds and religions, we don't always approve of each other's decisions, but we care for each other the best we can. We struggle to be less self-indulgent, more compassionate and understanding. We try to resist the fads, the manipulations of advertising, the con artists who prey on our weaknesses. We survive through government administrations we don't agree with, through natural and unnatural disasters that take our loved ones and possessions, through fads and fancies that are often unhealthy. From each event, we learn, we stretch, we recover, we process the emotional aftermath, and we move on. These life events are the soul's workout, and though we may groan and complain, we can feel the growth eventually.

Today, an elder of my church, a man in his late 70s, pretty physically battered and a bit stooped over, proved to be one of the most forward-thinking of the whole congregation. Life has beaten him up a bit, but it has not passed him by. His spirit glows radiantly. Have you ever seen an elderly person like that? One whose wisdom shows in his or her eyes, and whose love is not flamboyant, just there in a gentle query about your health, or a brief touch that calms and reassures. The spirit that shines from within them is true beauty, and it can't be bought in a jar.

The miracle is, that each of us has the total capacity to achieve this perspective, this fullest embodiment of the highest expression of soul, even as our bodies wear out and crumble.

Here's a visualization to help you access the god or goddess within, your inner wise person:

Picture a person of seventy or more-just the kind of elder you admire, the one you would like to become. Financially secure, in good health, surrounded by people who care, good friends and family... active with lots of interests... Introduce yourself to this elder, and notice your names are the same... this is you, later in life... Make an agreement with this ideal older self that you will get advice about what decisions you need to make as life goes on, to live to a healthy and happy state of being. Continue your conversation as long as you wish, and ask what your elder's secret is for living to such a lovely old age.

Once this contact is established, you can check out your decisions regularly by using this wise mentor within. For example, how does this inner counselor react to your life choices? Three Steps to Inner Growth

Inner growth is defined as many things: life lessons, wisdom, knowledge, and evolution, to name a few.

It's typically acquired as a result of life experiences, and usually those particular experiences aren't very pleasant. Humans seem to be wired to learn through pain, which I guess makes a lot of sense when you think about it. After all, if everything was hunky dorey all the time and we felt good about all aspects of our life, why would we want to take a chance on ruining all that just to learn something?

Although inner growth occurs along a path, that path is rarely steady, even, or straight. However, it almost always consists of three main steps:

1. Awareness of the issue. Typically this awareness comes as a result of an uncomfortableness you feel when something's not working for you in your life. Most often this is something that causes you emotional pain rather than physical, although it could be both.

2. Gathering information about the issue. So, what happened to cause this new awareness? What exactly isn't working for you and how isn't it working? How can it be corrected? Those are just a few of the important questions you need to ask at this step. As you delve deeper into the issue, more questions will arise, some of which may surprise you.

3. Applying the information to the issue. This is the reward. This is where you get to see how well you've learned about the subject you chose to experience. This is the feel-good part of inner growth.

Let's use an example. Say, something like you got fired from your job.

1. Awareness. Well, that's pretty obvious. You don't have a job any more.

2. Gathering information. Why did you get fired? Was it something you were or were not doing? Is it personal or universal? If it's personal, what do you need to change about how you do your work or interact with your co-workers? If it's universal, such as an economic slowdown, what do you need to do to make yourself more valuable to an employer? These questions and others like them will garner you the information you need to continue on to the next and final step.

3. Applying the information. Make a list of the answers you came up with in Step 2 and use that information to create a to-do list. Maybe some of the changes you'll make are learning better communications skills, changing your work habits, improving your personal hygiene, taking classes to add to your working knowledge.

Of course, this applies to ALL inner growth, from the mundane such as the example of losing one's job, to the esoteric, such as emotional and spiritual growth.

Breaking down the learning experience into these three steps is like eating a ton of applesauce. It's a lot easier and less stressful when you do it one small bit at a time.

Aside from the inner growth and valuable insights and information you'll acquire, another benefit for you is that as you identify the step where you are in the process, you gain the satisfying knowledge that you're making progress.

What current learning opportunity are you experiencing? What are you learning about it? Which step are you at with your learning regarding the issue?

Comforting the Little Orphan Girl (By Tina Tessina)

When life hands me a very difficult time, and I feel defeated and overwhelmed, I enter a hopeless and helpless state of mind I think of as The Little Orphan girl. This is the way I felt, as a teen, when I lost nearly my whole family, father, aunts and uncles, between the ages of 12 and 18. Needless to say, I was devastated; and I also survived and eventually, thrived. But little orphan girl doesn't remember that I made it through - she sinks into despair. When I realize this is going on, I know I have to snap out of it, get into adult thinking mode, and comfort and reassure that sad little part of myself.

Everyone has a similar mental place they can get stuck in-sometimes, people call it "depression" although it's not really clinical depression. It's just a form of mental exhaustion, perhaps due to grief, frustration, disappointment or some other problem. Transactional analysis calls this sad and anxious child part of the psyche the little professor, and here's how it works, and what to do about it.

Everyone laughs when they describe a small child as "four years old, going on forty." Small children can often seem wise and capable beyond their years. If a child has parents who are absent, incompetent, immature or neglectful to the point that the child's well-being is neglected, the child often takes charge and tries to keep things together. He or she uses observation, imitation, experimentation and pretending to solve problems and keep things together when the parents are not functioning well. Often this is an oldest child, who also takes responsibility for younger siblings, and becomes a substitute parent for them as well as I or herself. Eric Berne, M. D. the developer of Transactional Analysis theory, called such a child a "Little Professor." Robert Phillips, M.D., describes how this happens in his monograph, Structural Symbiotic Systems:

"When Tom reaches twenty-four months of age, he has had sufficient healthy parenting so that he is generally willing to relate to others pleasurably and to explore his small world with enthusiasm.

"On a particular day he toddles into the kitchen where Mother is baking a cake for Father's birthday. His senses excited by the sight of Mother's busily relaxed body and by the combined smells of her body and bubbling chocolate, he looks up at Mother and smiles. She smiles in return and, permission granted, he scurries happily to another room to explore, experiencing more stimulation from eye-catching and tactily-differing objects. Soon he returns excitedly to the kitchen, bent perhaps on his first show-and-tell, alive with sensation and awareness.

"But-what is this! There sits Mother in the corner of the kitchen, hunched over in a tense position and crying, with sharp edges on her sobs. Tom's world is suddenly disrupted-he whimpers and gets no response from Mother.

"What has he done or not done to account for this catastrophe, Tom wonders in his small magical mind. Tom does not know and might never know that during his brief absence Mother received a telephone call from Father who angrily criticized her for omitting his habitual salami sandwich from the lunch-bag. Bewildered and fearful, Tom waits and waits and finally takes a desperate dare for survival. He awkwardly moves toward Mother, awkwardly extends his arm, and awkwardly pats her shoulder, uttering the magical words "I love you."

"And with the suddenness of magic, Sobbing Beauty immediately comes to life again in Tom's world. Mother catches rapturous Tom up in her arms, wets his face with her redemptive sadness, and pronounces the words which will become the curse of grandiosity, "You're my wonderful little man! I couldn't get along without you." Tom's small chest expands with pride, his head swells with self-righteousness, and he is immersed in a lethal mixture of liquids which someday might drown him-environmental tears, in combination with an internal bath of both adrenalin and acetyl-choline."

Little Tom has now taken over the role of comforting and parenting his mother. If this only happens sporadically, he will learn some useful skills, and still have a mother who is capable when he needs her. But, a child with a mother who is habitually helpless, perhaps drunk or incompetent, soon forms a habit of caretaking. Highly intelligent and resourceful children can do well enough at caretaking to get a lot of praise and gratification from their accomplishment.

Further problems arise when the Little Professor is smart enough to be successful at the caretaking. For such a child caretaking and "acting as if" he or she knows what to do become strongly ingrained habits. A child with this background often grows up to be a highly competent, but stressed and anxious adult. The anxiety is a result of pretending. No matter how successful and competent the person becomes, no matter what he or she achieves, it never seems real. The Little Professor feels like a child who's pretending to be a grownup.

Until you do the work to separate your childlike self from the past, bring it into the present, and acknowledge all your adult experience and expertise, you will feel as if someone else must be running your life.

Recovering from Little Professor syndrome is not difficult, once you realize you're behaving in this way. The key is to recognize your competence as an adult, and to learn to identify the difference between using your adult intelligence and using your childlike ability to "fake" what you're doing. Reassure yourself that you survived whatever was devastating in the past, and you can get through this difficulty, too.

Guidelines for using grownup thinking

1. Pay attention to signals: Notice when you feel anxious about what you're doing, especially if you're having anxiety attacks with rapid heartbeat or shortness of breath. This is a strong indication that you're in "Little Professor" mode. With practice, you can learn to identify the signals that you're anxious.

2. Use logic: Ask yourself some logical questions about what you're doing and feeling: Is there a good reason to be so nervous? What am I afraid of? What's the worst that could happen? How can I make sure I'm OK? Simply asking these questions, or questions about the facts, such as who, what, when, where, and why; will help you think more like a grownup.

3. Move into adult mode: Remind yourself of all your adult experience and competence. Remember you are not a child.

4. Consider your reasoning: Ask yourself why you're doing what you're doing. Can you explain it logically? If not, perhaps it's a reactive, rather than a rational decision.

5. Develop a plan: Make a reasonable plan to accomplish whatever you want to do, break it down into steps, and stick to it. This will reduce the chances of being sidetracked by emotional reactions.

When you stay in adult mode, you'll find that it's much easier to distinguish your true responsibilities from those that belong to others. You'll feel much more competent, and much more in charge of your own life.

Don't Punish Yourself When You Make Mistakes. Notice What You've Chosen And Simply Choose Again

Sometimes I Wish I Knew Better

Think about a recent mistake and consider how things could have turned out differently for you. Whilst hindsight is a wonderful faculty, it can often make us feel guilt and remorseful for our actions. I want to reassure you that every choice we make is made with the awareness and level of consciousness available to us at the time. However, this does not excuse us from repeating the same mistakes. We are the product of our thinking and until we expand our consciousness, we are bound to repeat our mistakes. That's where hindsight works to our advantage. With a new level of awareness, we can look forward to the future knowing we are not constrained by our mistakes but learn to make better decisions based on the past.

Many people make mistakes they regret. How about you? Are you still holding on to regret from the past or have you made peace with them? I realise it is difficult to let go of the past. But, we can take comfort knowing we did our best at the time and hopefully we won't repeat the same mistakes. This is why we mustn't punish ourselves but notice what we've chosen and simply choose again; this time more wisely. This is the advice echoed by Dr. Alex Lickerman who writes in The Undefeated Mind: On the Science of Constructing an Indestructible Self: "But we needn't waste time in recriminations or in wishing we could go back in time to change what happened. We can turn that hurt or regret into a catalyst for personal growth, into motivation for examining the reasons we made the choice in the first place and for asking ourselves how we might change to avoid making the same mistake again." I've made countless mistakes in my 20s about my health and career choices. Sometimes I wish I knew better, however I didn't have the awareness as I do now and was choosing to the best of my ability. In a recent conversation with a coaching client, she complimented me on my wisdom to help her overcome her challenges. As I considered the compliment, it reminded me of the countless mistakes I made over the years. In fact, gaining wisdom has little to do with the books I read, the courses attended or the people I surround myself with. Whilst they are important, it was the numerous mistakes I made, and the lessons gained that cultivated good judgement.

It Is About Finding Clarity

Can you reflect on earlier mistakes that contributed to your personal growth? Sometimes we experience growth while other times we are destined to repeat the same mistakes until we receive a wake-up call. Nothing teaches us valuable lessons other than life's experience. No matter how often you feel obligated to help a loved one through a crisis, ultimately they must learn the lessons on their own. My experience as a coach and speaker shows that people are not ready to receive advice unless they ask or pay for it. I mention this because we ought to refrain from giving advice on how others should live their life or overcome their problems. In fact, the best thing we can do is listen to their problems with an open mind and help them gain clarity on the situation. If you've ever worked with a coach or mentor, you will notice they ask many questions and seldom give advice. Rather, they help you gain clarity on your issues and lead you towards self-enquiry, so you are better equipped to find the answers yourself.

Considering this, think back to an earlier time when you faced a difficult challenge and consulted other people. Perhaps you received conflicting advice at the time? In those instances, did you find your own solution or rely on the advice given? Similarly, if you followed the advice, did it work out in your favour? If you arrived at the solution yourself, were you more empowered as a result? It is my experience, the answers to our most pressing problems are always contained within us, yet we don't have enough clarity to recognise it or put it into action. We get stuck on life being a certain way and if it doesn't eventuate as we expect, we get angry and disillusioned. What we ought to do is keep searching for answers and work with our intuition to make sense of the situation. It is a matter of consulting the guidance we receive and interpreting it through logic. In light of this, return to the recent mistake I asked you about at the beginning of the article. Contemplate the following questions: What do I need to learn about this situation? What is this experience calling me to understand about myself or life? Where is the growth contained within this experience? Assuredly, when we pose empowering questions, we align ourselves with the right solutions instead of feeling disempowered. Punishing yourself when you make mistakes does not serve you other than to reinforce a despairing mindset. We must notice what we've chosen then ask empowering questions, so we are destined not to repeat those mistakes.

ABCs of Stress Management

The ABCs of Stress Management Is Awareness, Balance and Control.

Stress is created when external or internal demands made on an individual are in excess of his coping strategies and capabilities. Let us illustrate how physical stress is formed. If you are asked to pick up a glass of water and place it on the table it is not stressful. If you are asked to pick up the glass of water and fill it to the brim without dropping any water outside, it is mildly stressful. If you are asked to hold that full glass of water for two hours without dropping any water, you will get totally stressed out.

Awareness

How stressed are you? Do you feel that you have absolutely no worries and stress in the world? Then you are lucky indeed to be part of the minority of the population today. For most of us stress plays an important part of our daily lives. It disrupts our energy levels, affects our performance and can be a huge drain on our resources. Becoming aware that one is experiencing stress is also difficult as people have got used to being under fire from all sides. It is not a natural state and will affect the health of a person in the longterm.

Balance

Once you are aware of the fact that you get stressed in certain situations, what do you do next? It is now time to manage stress levels better. Keep yourself primed for action without the accompanying tension. This can be accomplished by ensuring that you balance out the stress you are feeling in a certain situation in an optimum manner. You can avoid or modify certain stressors right away on your own. Other stressors may need some contribution from outside influences. The idea is to get hold of the problematic stressors and neutralize them.

Control

Here the idea is not to control the stress. Instead it is to control your own reaction to them. By directing one's own actions and thoughts it is possible to stay in a positive frame of mind. This defeats the stress and allows you a measure of self responsibility and control. A good night's rest is often one of the best ways to control stress. It is easier to deal with issues when you are well fed, well rested and healthy. So make sure that you actively look after your physical body and stress will begin to disappear.

Life Is Not About Finding Yourself But Creating Yourself

Life is how we make it. Be that as it may, but many people are experiencing their lives along these lines. Regardless of whether deliberately or unknowingly we disengaged from our capacity, substance and soul to wind up feeling at some degree lost. Possibly it happens when we appear to have all that we need superficially; cash, assets, achievement, yet we need satisfaction at the most profound level.

At some instances, we feel lost and confounded along these lines, it is our awareness to wake us up to the truth of who we truly are; divine limitless creatures that are incredible, unfathomable. The saddest part is that individuals may never tune in to this call from soul. A significant number of us are so molded, so sleeping to our own stunning force that it's excessively startling. Rather than grasping our capacity, we deviated our cognizance.

On the other hand, when we are open and responsive to revealing our fullest potential, we increase an awesome chance to gain proficiency with the embodiment of what it genuinely intends to make our life. The way we pick here is the thing that decides the course of our future, and influences our capacity to genuinely venture into our most noteworthy conceivable articulation. The single greatest change we can grasp now in our lives is to assume radical liability for who and where we are now.

From this point onward, we become open to development, extension and the fixing of the entirety of the constrained perspectives and being we have utilized before. Assuming liability for your life along these lines takes HUGE measures of mental fortitude. It might be awkward on occasion to decide to be the sensible maker of our reality, since it implies there is never again any other person to blame for the things we don't care for. What is unmistakably increasingly awkward however is carrying on with an actual existence path underneath our potential since we never had the mental fortitude to assume liability for our lives.

Every individual holds a different perspective about life due to our distinct way of thinking and attitude towards life. I believe it's up to us to create our role in it. Life is all about discovering our true self. It is high time to stop finding yourself and go ahead to creating yourself.

In fact, we lose our true essence because we want our society to accept us, so we change, and compromise. But when we spend few moments to reflect, we realized that it is important that we create our own identity. Every choice we make matters. To shape our lives like the way we want it, we need to make bold choices to achieve our goals even if it means taking the road less traveled. We need to make decisions that bring us closer to our goals of creating a name for ourselves.

We are the directors of our life and it's up to us to decide what role we want to follow and create an incredible story.

A Global Solution Begins With a Personal Responsibility

Whether we like it or not we must all accept personal responsibility for the state of the world we are now living in. A global responsibility that equates to a social awareness and ultimately a personal responsibility to bring about the changes necessary to guarantee a world fit for future generations. Packing our bags and moving away from the problem isn't an option, and if the time ever came when a space age Ark 2 became a possibility, current human nature being what it is its fair to say places would be allocated not with the intent of saving the species but based on position, power and status. Premier VIP class would be the order of the day, and everyone else written off as expendable and left to fend for themselves among the ruins of civilisation.

If you feel this kind of decision would never happen simply open your eyes and you will see these judgement calls being made every single day on a global scale. Life has become a very cheap commodity unless you have power wealth and prosperity to protect you from the realities of life in the 21st century.

We are a human race living in a large global village that is shrinking by the day. Where once upon a time travelling large distances would take weeks and months, the same journey is now completed in a matter of hours, and information takes longer to type than it does to travel around the globe. The more technically advanced we become the more ignorant and unconcerned we appear to be about the consequences of our actions, and the effect they have on the planet that sustains us. Politicians, world leaders and financial power brokers are making short term decisions in order to generate further wealth and prosperity for themselves, decisions that will have lasting and long term negative effects on generations to come.

War, corruption and the pollution it creates in the hearts and minds of those it touches is big business. When war generates trillions of dollars worldwide peace has no value in the eyes of those who see no further than the profit to be made from the next conflict. When pollution is seen as an acceptable price for progress and the destruction of wildlife, tree's rivers and oceans, is written off as nothing more than collateral damage, conservation is simply viewed as an irritation that is paid lip service for the sake of public relations, and then totally ignored and its business as usual.

Division is a means to an end. It is generated and manipulated, created in order to divide influence and control. Politics, religion and wealth are the great dividers that segregate and alienate. Once we buy into this belief it becomes easy to convince us that we have something to fear from those who we are conditioned to believe are different from us. Colour, creed race and religion are just some of the many categories and stereotypes used to reinforce the belief that we have nothing in common with the people we share our home with. This planet is our only home and the people we share it with are not neighbours to be ignored because we think they are not our kind of people, they are our family we must learn to get along with if we want to secure a life and tenure for future generations.

Each one of us has the power to make a difference and that difference begins in our own minds and the way we think. Education is the key to change and the mind that can think for itself and has the courage to break free from its own ignorance and fear is the greatest threat to those who would seek to control the world's resources, the environment, society and the world as we know it. The individual is only powerless as long as they believe themselves to be, each one of us can bring about change in our own lives which must then impact on the lives of those around us. In a universe composed of energy a small solitary action on our part has the power to create a ripple that has a lasting effect and far reaching consequences.

In standing up for what we believe to be right; in speaking out for those who are unable to speak for themselves, in helping those less fortunate we make a difference. Every time we refuse to accept bigotry, hatred and abuse we give strength to others and help them make a stand against insidious forms of injustice. There may be times when we are a lone voice and find ourselves standing alone against what appears to be overwhelming odds but it's at those times we come to realise what's important to us and what we are prepared to take a knee for, or stand up and be counted.

The planet we live on is the only one we have and whether we like it or not each and every one of us has a duty of care to do our bit to look after it. A responsibility to leave it in a fit state for those who have to come after us, a responsibility that we can't negate for it's our life and we alone can live it. We are not asked to become environmentalist overnight, or political activists ready to overturn governments, we simply need to become more aware of the world we live in and make changes in our own lives that reflects a new level of consciousness. We are energy beings whose fabric is that of the universe, any changes we make no matter how small must affect both the global and universal consciousness for in reality there is only one conscious mind on this planet we call home, and we are it.

Unawareness of Potentialities - A Barrier for Self Development

Human beings are endowed with various intrinsic potentialities. Some acquire abilities through sheer hard work and keep them up with continuous practice and effort. Intrinsic potentialities are what people are born and inherited with. They are with them till they die and transfer them to the next generation through offspring. But how many are aware of their abilities. Almost all the people go through their life without understanding the full range of their inherited powers. Instead they touch everything that they are not clever at. We see a society with people who are engaged in complete irrelevant jobs unaware of what they capable of doing. People who are clever at cookery cleaning the hotel and cleaners trying to cook. Potentialities inherited could be developed by the possessor through a continuous dialogue within himself and the external environment. Unawareness of potentialities may lead to complete failure of one's life efforts and non recognition by the society obstructing the self development.

Cockroaches that are fallen into kitchen sinks move round and round inside the kitchen sink to get out of it. They try that way many hours till they get exhausted and finally die. They have the potential to fly. But they never seem to be thinking to free themselves from the danger by flying out of it. This reminds us of that having intrinsic potentials is not enough, they should be evoked kindled and used. Potentials are there within people but they are rarely evoked never used. How much developed are the education systems in certain countries to recognize these intrinsic potentialities in school going children?

The leader of the flock of birds that caught in the hunters net was aware of the potential of the individual bird and advised them to work as a group to escape from the danger. They did as the leader advised and flew together with the net into the sky with the net. When they were flying exactly over a tree they made a down flight and let the net entangle in the tree. Thus they all were able to get rid from the danger. Had the leader been unaware of the potentials of the birds, what would have happened to the birds. Therefore what is more important is being aware of your potentials and evoke and use them for the self development. Never think "I can't", "It is impossible", "useless trying" These mental cataracts would impair your vision of possibilities.

Wisdom And Human Volatility

It is necessary, besides being interesting and intriguing to understand facts and factuality of creation. The process of creation has unequivocally witnessed wisdom as a prime entity in human beings. The important point is to understand the role of wisdom within the parameters of principles and knowledge in our existence. It is established beyond reasonable doubt that wisdom is the tool which extracts values. These ethics utilize knowledge and balance human beings' activities as deem fit. Again, it is explicitly conceived that principles are unaltered but values change within the varying scenario of existence.

A question arises in our mind about what is wisdom? Philosophers, Plato and Cicero were of the same opinion that wisdom has four cardinal virtues, viz, prudence, justice, temperance and courage. Thus, virtue is defined as a habit in harmony with reason and the order of nature. The principle of cardinal virtues translates values both subjectively and objectively in selective conditions. These variances are the manifestation of awareness and ignorance and also humility and arrogance. Here, the negative volatility plays a dominant role in every subjective perception and its applications. Whereas, positive variance reflects constructive attitude thus adopt a balance life.

We must understand human life and evaluate our acts and deeds here in this world and hereafter. We can achieve our aims, and objectives provided we comprehend the context of the knowledge we acquire. The comprehension of subjectivity compels in a myopic way, and we end up in a fiasco. Because, the negativity is surrounding our thoughts, hence it is influencing in a pronounced way. Why such an influence is so pronounced and affects us profoundly? It is the materialistic attachment and greed which translate into arrogance, consequently.

Another fact we must understand distinctly and comprehensively is the absence of values in rituals. If we failed to understand the message and its context, then its values diminished. It means; the rituals become superficial and without substance leading to faith being practiced in a vacuum. Therefore, our observation in daily life will reflect that our efforts are not producing any result as expected.

When practices and rituals become part and parcel of daily life without understanding the purpose behind it, then it will translate into ignorance. If such ethics continue over a longer time, subsequently it is accepted as gospel truth leaving behind the principles. Thus, this ignorance translates into arrogance, and the combination will result in degeneration and dissimulation of a society. However, wisdom and knowledge synchronizes in harmony and follow a rhythmic pattern of humility which in turn transforms into a pious society.

As we know that human beings' originality of creations reflects an absolute perfection. However, somewhere down the line it is being diluted and become corrupt in its dealings and performance. The factors which affected all human beings are their drift in wrong diction under various influences. This typically signifies human nature and its volatility of varying magnitudes and dimensions.

The severities of acts and deeds are either appropriate or dangerous depending upon people and their objectives. Here, wisdom plays a dominant role in guiding the righteous people towards the bliss path. The less fortunate ones are those who ignore such telltale signs and become arrogant. These people and their destiny will move towards the dark pit, and suffering becomes the daily routine. This profoundly signifies wisdom and volatility in every aspect of life and a lesson for all humanity.

How "Taking Life Personally" Causes Pain & Error

Life is a holistic, universal thing that's all positive and all harmonious. Whenever it seems not to be, it's not the fault of life, it's the fault of your state of mind or perspective.

When your perspective is personal - one-sided instead of all-sided, you're then out of tune or sync with the flow of life. As a consequence, everything in life will tend to be a little more difficult, error-filled and stressful for you, and will remain so for as long as you hold onto this perspective.

All negative feelings come from the personality - which is not really real, rather than from your higher, aware self, which is really real. The negative feeling is real in the sense that we really do feel the pain, but not real in that the pain is not caused or based on something real. It's like seeing a tree branch and thinking it's a snake and having a heart attack over it.

THE SOLUTION

If you step on a nail, the pain is real and the cause of the pain - the nail, is real. So you either have to get rid of the nail or get rid of the foot. So you wisely choose to get rid of the nail. You do this by just separating the nail from your foot. If the cause or your pain is the unreal personality - which it is, then the solution is to separate your awareness - your real self, from the personality, the personality's pain. The ego's pain.

In other words, negativity of any nature is all in the mind, so the solution is to get a little distance from that thinking, feeling mind. Detached awareness, then, is the healing factor. The clarity or reality factor.

Anger, resentment, impatience, loneliness, boredom, sadness, etc., are of the personality or ego - which is not who we really, really are. Who we really, really are is the pure awareness above those egotistical, personal feelings. The pure awareness is above what we're thinking, feeling and doing in every present moment.

The real "I" is happy, joyous and free! "Happiness" can be real or personal. If it's an emotion, it's personal; if it's from your pure awareness, it's real or spiritual. We say awareness is "spiritual" because it's above the senses. Above the personal faculties of thinking, feeling, seeing, hearing, etc. Pure awareness is and reveals true happiness because true happiness is our real, essential nature. Who and how we really, really are.

CONCLUSION

You control or reverse any negative thought or feeling by detaching from it. Getting some distance from it. Some objectivity. Some stepping back. Some pausing. It's separating the nail from the foot. You're pulling your awareness of the thing back from being entangled in it. You're not repressing the emotion; you're getting above it. Being "above it all" is the secret to being healthy, happy, intelligent and free. Being "caught up in it all" is the secret of pain, limitation and error. Detached awareness, in and of itself, is the healing factor. The universal antidote to all negativity. It's amazing!

Expanding Consciousness to Know Spirit

The sense of your spirit, or consciousness, only becomes apparent when you develop the gap between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. The conscious mind is the here and now- it is present moment thinking. The subconscious mind is habits, emotions, memories, and reactions. It is the "gap" between these two minds where the spirit exists.

By developing an awareness of the separation between the two minds, you develop the space for consciousness to exist and to grow. In other words, you grow to know and develop your spirit. The more you expand the space between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind, the more apparent your spirit becomes. You gradually become aware that spirit does not exist in the mind, or in any one place, but is everywhere and in every cell of your body. It is only through the separation of two minds that you can begin to experience it.

Spirit or consciousness is not matter. It is energy; it is light. It is the energetic wave produced by matter but it is not matter. This energy is subtle. It is not easily measured by the equipment we have today, but it can be sensed. We can learn to sense other spirits, too. By expanding the gap between the two minds, we become more and more aware of the field of consciousness giving rise to spirit. We realize that this space created is consciousness, and that consciousness is spirit.

We then become aware that our emanating field of consciousness is connected to all other spirits - differing only in vibration. We see that our spirit is vibrating out, and is transmitting and receiving the waves of all other spirits. We realize that we are not alone. We are all connected to each other, and all other spirits, in this universe and other multiverses.

As we continue to expand our consciousness, we realize that we are not who we think we are, or we are not who we thought we were. We are spirit, which is energy, which is information. We are a vibrating field of information contained over many lifetimes. We begin to realize that our only purpose is the sharing of the information contained in the vibration of our spirit. We do this not by words but by extending our spirit outwards. This, by definition, is love, "Extending your spirit out to help another spirit."

As a physical form, we do not matter. As a spirit, we are not matter.

We exist to love one another. We will eventually realize this in this lifetime or another. Nothing else matters. Every ascended master, prophet, or sage realized this before physical emancipation. Love is all there is. Energy is love and spirit is energy.

It has always been with you; waiting for you to open the gap for consciousness to allow the spirit to flourish and gain power. Before any of this can happen... we must create the gap. Witness the difference between your chattering mind and your conscious mind. When you perceive the difference, the gap begins to open and spirit begins to shine.

Patience is required in the process. Keep practicing expanding the gap by witnessing the two minds. With practice, the gap opens wider and awareness of true self begins. You realize that you are not your ego, or your hairstyle, or your waist size, or your bank account - you are a spirit. You are energy. You are not alone. You are here to share your information. You are here to love.
