Alternative Medicine and Self Improvement With Technical Resources

Alternative medicine is essentially under the auspices of World Health Organization, and is a preferred treatment modality that supports the healthcare needs of 65% of the world. It is also known as CAM, or Complementary and Alternative medicine. It is based on clinical process similar to mainstream medicine that uses drugs and surgery.

World Health Organization is arranged to several departments concerning preventive medicine, public health, vaccinations to eradicate serious epidemics, and drugless therapies based on ancient traditions, as with acupuncture, tuina, shiatsu, herbalism, massage, aromatherapy, laser therapy, sports massage, neuromuscular massage and related.

The scientific nature, origin and background of each drugless therapy may be differentiated by its boards, regulators, clinical researchers, competency requirements, SOAP and plan of care. Low level laser is used and managed by mainstream practitioners, dermatologists, lymphologists, physical therapists, dentists and related.

Shiatsu, tuina, acupuncture and zen range in industry value from different levels, spas, clinics, yoga centers, hospitals or traditional practitioners. They are all based on sacred scriptures that have been monitored by WHO into practical technical documentation.

The spa industry is relatively recent, but applications based on massage may used the most in aesthetic environments, landscapes and luxurious rituals. These are very inviting but may cost a fortune. In healthcare centers, costs are high and insurance is not available.

The need arises for technical training or self improvement through courses and books. These courses and certificates must be affordable, well recognized in their brand and regulated. They must conform to international guidelines of understanding, of safety, of description, of competency listings, of consultation or checklisting, of monitoring progress, and of comfortable, convenient usage.

Such books for the layman have been relatively simple so far. The Standards boards cost high sums to exhibit their core work and process, at ministry level.

They are compatible with legal systems, technical systems, competency systems, audit systems, learner support systems and so on. The qualifications are understood globally and practitioners worldwide speak with the same understanding.

These processes have been somewhat converted for individuals to update their skills and knowledge quotient. Awareness is always useful. A reader with a severe back pain may prefer to buy his own laser and threat himself, rather than spend a fortune on a single session or a series of them. The reader must know the most suitable laser and technical process for his injury. In case he is not able to find adequate support in a book, he can enroll for a certified course.

With so much handy reading available, readers can change their lives, health and self improvement with compliance to technical process and quality training that is available. Now this brings in Zen for self discovery and internal balance, acupuncture or shiatsu for energy and equilibrium in core health, yoga for physical and spiritual exercise, sports massage and professional quality stretches for muscle balancing or lengthening, and fast recovery in the sports arena. Laser brings in scope for pain management, lymphatic drainage, acupuncture and more.

The Alternative medicine books are presentable with technical support to manage compliance based form filling, check points, after treatment evaluations, and recommendations for progress.

How to Tame the Stress Monster

You bury your head in your hands. You'd really like to run screaming from your cubicle, but for one, that would get you instantly fired, for two, your shoes are definitely not made for running. But the stress! Not only does your job stress you out, but there's your family, friends, chores, errands, social media to keep up with - AARGH! It's enough to make a grown man/woman weep.

So off you go to yoga/pilates (how to make the time for that is yet another stressor), or meditation class, or get up an hour earlier to run, anything to relieve the tension that seems to invade your every waking moment. I take that back - your every moment - because getting a good night's sleep is a rarity, and even in your dreams it seems you're stressed.

You think "Wouldn't it be great to be a trust fund baby, or be able to take early retirement? Anything so I could just sit on a beach, drink pina coladas, and enjoy the view the rest of my days, stress free." Well, not so much. I don't know of any studies on trust fund babies, but certainly the studies on who's happiest in retirement show that those who retire into "sit on the beach" mode end up dying but a few years later. Whereas those who retire from a job, find interests that stimulate them and are busier than ever, end up thriving and living long happy lives.

So it's not really stress that's the culprit, it's how you look at it, and how you respond to it. Basically, stress is nothing more than stimulation, and as the studies on retirees who thrive show, you need stimulation in order to stay alive - mentally, physically and emotionally.

Stimulation is a good thing! Too much of it is a bad thing. And that's generally what we're referring to when we cry out, "I'm stressed!!" When you're feeling "stressed" what's really happening is you're overwhelmed with too much stimulation from the outside world.

Why does that matter? Because there's a world of difference between how you can deal with being overwhelmed by the situations in your life versus being "stressed." "Stressed" is an emotional response to a situation. So you look for ways to soothe your painful emotions: thus the yoga/pilates, meditation, running and so forth. All of which are great and supportive of your overall health and well-being, but may not do much to alleviate what's actually overwhelming you.

The first thing to do when you're feeling "I'm stressed!!" is to take a deep breath, and ask yourself, "What's overwhelming me?" "Everything!" is not a helpful answer. Break it down into specifics. Because it's only by looking at the specifics of the situations stressing you out that you can deal with them; undo, if you will, the overwhelm.

Secondly, check your boundaries. Most overwhelm comes out of our failure to set good boundaries. Whether it's letting your boss know that you're happy to do overtime one day a week but not more, or informing your kids that you will no longer be cleaning their bathrooms - they're old enough to do it themselves and here's how, or telling your S.O. that you appreciate his/her respecting that 15 minutes of quiet you need upon coming home before launching into the evening drill, all these are ways of setting boundaries and reducing overwhelm.

Thirdly, prioritize. Determine what's the most important thing you want to accomplish in your job, with your relationship, your friends, your family, yourself! Then schedule your time first and foremost around that most important thing, and stick to it. Let everything else take second, third, fourth place - and if need be, eliminate some activities altogether. Nowhere is it written that if you don't update your Facebook page every day, life as you know it is over. Try once a week, or once a month, whatever fits. Maybe your top relationship priority is your weekly date night. Great! Don't let anything get in the way of it, and "date" with gusto.

It's all about taking charge of your life. About allowing the stimulation that feels good to you, while actively, proactively, setting boundaries and prioritizing such that you don't take on more stimulation than is right for you, and as a result, spiral down into overwhelm.

Anytime you feel that "I'm stressed!" emotion creeping up on you, stop! Remember it's but an emotional response, and you can greatly diminish your stress by dealing directly with the situations that birthed that emotion.

6 Effective Ways to Be Relieved From Stress

Stress is an awful experience that not so many people want to experience, especially if you are at work, at home taking care of your baby or in your bedroom making some projects while preparing for an upcoming major exam. While stress is inevitable, the good news is it is completely manageable.

There are different ways you can do to combat stress. Even if you consider yourself as the busiest person in your workplace, school, or home, it is still possible to come out feeling relaxed and focused despite of the grind around you.

Learn how others are doing it and take note of these tips:

Meditation

Meditation can help you be relieved from stress by targeting your mind. Whether you believe it or not, your mind and everything that's inside of it (whatever it is), can bring about stress to your life. When unresolved for a long time, it can affect all other areas such as your body, your emotions, and even your social life.

Most commonly people experience mental stress and one of the ways to combat this is through meditation. Meditation works by easing the anxiety on your mind. It can be done for just a few minutes daily and you can do it anytime during the day.

Relaxation techniques

If you are prone to getting stressed easily, what better way to combat this than by doing various relaxation techniques?

Some of the relaxation techniques you can learn and apply are yoga, deep breathing exercise, and meditation rhythmic exercise.

By doing these techniques, you allow the body to elicit its own natural relaxation response. This will lead to a more peaceful and calm feeling. You would be able to finish the day with a go getter attitude, and you will surely love that!

Have someone to talk to

Stress can get into your nerves easily and when that happens, it will start to affect your performances daily. Don't let it get the best of you. Begin by disclosing how you feel to someone you can trust. That person could be your best friend, a relative, or a professional counselor.

It actually helps a lot if you make it a habit to share your thoughts and feelings to someone rather than keeping all inside until they accumulate and bring about negative effects to your health and daily activities.

Have a body massage

Body massage is one of the proven ways to get relief from stress. Recommended by doctors and other health professionals, body massage ease the anxiety in your mind and relaxes the muscles in your body.

It gives you a calm and relaxing feeling as the masseur's hands glide swiftly through your back, head, extremities, and thighs. Professional masseurs use various massaging techniques for various conditions.

At the end of the day, when you are feeling so stressed out from work, school, home, or some activities that you did during the day, consider getting yourself a good body massage and you'll surely come out feeling rejuvenated.

Go for an adventure

From time to time, it pays a lot if you take a break from what you are doing. Especially if it has been causing you a lot of stress lately, one of the things you can do to be relieved from it is by going for an adventure.

The most common form is by taking a trip either alone or with friends and loved ones. Renew your mind by breaking the daily grind and discover new things at a different pace. As you enjoy the adventure, you get to have more peace of mind and have more time to think about other things.

Aside from that, going for an adventure is one way to treat oneself after days of toiling hard for work. It is actually getting more personal space that one would have not possibly experience if done otherwise.

Manage your time well

While going for an adventure will give you lots of benefits, not everyone will have the luxury of time to always do it.

If that was the case, you can still be relieved from stress by managing your time well every single day. This means you allocate your time wisely and effectively. Have time to do your tasks while setting aside ample time for rest and relaxation.

Avoid the MaƱana Habit so that you can always accomplish tasks on time. Don't spread yourself too thin.

Many health professionals would agree that stress can be the root cause of all major health problems. Don't let that ever happen to you. Manage stress well while you still can.

3 Tips to Deal With Stress

Stress Stress Stress... Personally, we hear this word 20 times a day, at least! We're all stressed, and we are constantly exposed to stressors: work, deadlines, rush, traffic jam.

The pupils dilate, and the heart beats fast to pump oxygen through the body so muscles respond instantly. The good news is that our body is designed to experience stress and react to it. Indeed, stress is the most common form of physiological reaction among humans and mammals worldwide, and in certain moments it helps us to survive! The bad news is: stress may be very dangerous!

Today, in our frantic and busy life, we all deal with stress and our bodies strive to adapt and keep balanced and healthy. It is important to know that a prolonged state of stress can have unpleasant consequences for our health, especially on the long run.

That's why it is important to understand how to face and how to react to the stressors of our everyday life.

Here is the top list of the best methods to fight stress. We tried several remedies and these are our favorites: the first two are anti stress objects, to use at work, at home or every time you're feeling stressed; the last two are natural remedies, extremely effective and self enhancing!

1. STRESS BALLS

Stress balls are probably one of the most popular remedies known against stress. They are cheap, immediate, and it is kid of funny!

When we get stressed our brain has to channels: a sensory channel made of sight, sound, smell and feel, and an Intellectual channel which elaborates the information and our feelings in that moment.

When we start squeezing the stress ball, our sensory channel focuses on something different than the stressor, and the intellectual channel relaxes our body and our mind.

In this sense, any other object with this function is useful!

The important thing is to focus your mind on something different, for a while... These remedies don't guarantee a lasting remedy, unfortunately!

In this sense, the natural relievers could be of a little bit more of help.

2. ADAPTOGEN PLANTS

Adaptogen Plants are a class of herbs, roots, berries with adaptogenic properties: when taken over a period of time help our body to perform better under stress.

Specifically adaptogens help our body to adapt, and so to restore quickly our internal balance normalizing the body release of stress hormones.

Some of the most effective adaptogens against stress are Seabuckthorn, Lycium (or Goji berries) and Reishi. Those herbs increase the body resistance to stress!

Stress is a condition of threatened homeostasis (a set of regulated internal conditions that allow us to maintain balance), adaptogens' active components make each cell of our body more intelligent dealing with stress and so to reduce the negative impact of all stressors on our physical and psychological well-being.

It gives us a permanent remedy against stress, helping us dealing everyday with the pressure, the anxiety and stress!

3. YOGA AND MEDITATION

Take time to focus on yourself everyday! Yoga and meditation help us to control our thoughts, our anxiety. We'd only need 10-15 minutes once or twice a day in order to bring about more "mindfulness" and reduce stress or anxiety.

Yoga and meditation relax the body, relax the mind, giving us the opportunity to focus on our breath, and developing the connection between the mind and the body.

We tried them all and we can assure that they really work. Do you have any other suggestions? How do you deal with stress?

Want to Become Smarter? Join Medical Yoga Therapy Class

Woman Flexing Her Legs

What is medical yoga therapy?
Medical yoga therapy is activity in which individual performs yoga exercises to improve health and treat medical conditions.

Just a quick reminder of WHO health definition - a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

To be honest previously I thought that yoga is just a trendy activity with minimal or no real benefit. But recent advances in medical imaging - functional magnetic resonance imaging and volumetric measurements - have proven otherwise.

According to multiple studies Yoga has a great impact on our mental health. In addition medical yoga can strengthen our deep muscles.

Can medical yoga improve sleep and reduce stress?
Medical yoga can improve brain centers which are responsible for sleeping and stress relief. We see many observational yoga studies which basically are just asking people how they feel after practicing yoga. In those studies people say that they feel better. We wanted to focus on data.

According to this study from Massachusetts General Hospital by Britta K. Hƶlzel et al. they found that stress reduction in study participants correlates with structural changes in the amygdala - an area of the brain which is responsible for emotional processing. Participants of this study underwent 8 week program of exercises which included medical yoga and sitting meditation.

Main conclusion here - there are changes in brain which reduces our stress levels. Less stress leads to better sleep? It seems so! At least according to this study in elderly patients.

Can yoga therapy improve thinking, memory and other cognitive processes?
At least according to science answer is yes. Medical yoga therapy and meditation can increase activity of hippocampus - the area of the brain which is responsible for memory.

It is well known fact that the connections between neurons are stronger if they are activated. In addition to that synaptogenesis and neurogensis (new brain cell and new brain cell connection formation) also is scientifically proven.

If we move forward and look not only on hippocampus, in brain volume measurement study it was proven that long-term practice of yoga meditation is associated with larger brain volume overall, and with enlargement in brain regions that are associated with sustained attention, self-control, compassion and perception.

Can medical yoga improve back pain?
Plank position is great for strengthening deep core muscles! Before we continue to talk about this topic - you need to see a doctor to get a medical advice ! After doctor has determined what is the main problem of your pain - we can proceed.

The short answer to this question (yes, again) - medical yoga therapy can improve your back pain. Usually back pain is related to aging vertebral column and changes which comes along (by the way You can check our post on neck massagers and why they are important) or trauma.

The pain usually will come from either facet joints which will affect nerve roots or intervertabral disc changes affecting nerve roots again. If You have acute pain onset - be cautious and don't do yoga. After pain goes away and (if necessary) you did some radiology examinations to find the cause - go for medical yoga therapy.

Most of yoga positions and exercises can increase deep or core muscle strength. Thus preventing back pain in future! Also strengthening other core muscles can reduce injury risk. For example, in our knees! Strengthening all the small muscles around our knee joint will increase stability.

Thou Shall Not Steal - How Are You Stealing From Yourself?

Last week at the end of one of my yoga classes, we had an unusually invigorating conversation about the Ten Commandments, focusing mostly on "thou shalt not steal." Webster's defines the word "steal" as to take the property of another without right or permission. The word "another" is defined as one of an undetermined number of the group. Using the Webster's definitions allows you to take this commandment much further than stealing the property of others.

Most people in a civilized society are morally opposed to taking the property of others without expressed permission. We have even gone as far as to put hundreds of ordinances and laws on the books of our justice system in order to protect our society from this activity. But what have we done to stop us from stealing from the most important person in our lives, ourselves?

In order to answer this question, we must first list the ways in which we steal or deprive ourselves. We steal our health by refusing to eat healthy well-balanced meals, not drinking enough water, overindulging in alcohol or other stimulants, ignoring our body's requirement for sufficient rest and not exercising our bodies daily. We constantly allow our words to damage our health by having "organ recitals" with our friends and neighbors testifying to our failing health and aching muscles. With zeal, we declare the poor condition of our health by repeating over and over, "I do not feel well or I feel like I am catching something."

We steal our peace of mind by not meditating or relaxing daily or more often if your mind requires it, believing that it is our responsibility to solve the problems of our love ones and participating in gossip.

We steal our prosperity by continually speaking untrue statements such as I am broke, I do not have any money, I cannot afford it, some people have all the luck, other folks have all the fun. Our spoken word is one of the most powerful creative tools we have. Every time we consistently make statements regarding our wealth or lack of, we are sending commands into the Universe that have no choice but to create the very thing we spoke of. The Law of Attraction and the Cause and Effect guarantee that what we send out will return to us. Genesis states that our word will not return to us void. Our actions also determine our experiences. When we neglect to do our very best, we send a message to the universe that we expect in return less than the best.

In what ways are you stealing from yourself? What messages are you sending?

This week spend some time thinking about the instances you steal from yourself. List them and start to eliminate them one at a time. I have recommitted myself to watching my words and guarding my though
ts. I was surprised at the number of time I could see myself in the examples.

Dream Big. Life the life you've imagined.

The Art of Noticing: 3 Steps for Returning to Center

My mind is going a million miles a minute, in a dozen directions. As I lie on the yoga mat, I think:

"Stay here."

I manage it for 3-4 seconds and then I'm off on some thought train.

"Find your Stillness."

Yes, for 3-4 seconds more, and off again.

When meditating each morning, I count my breaths. I'm lucky if get to 5 before I lose track and have to start over. As I count, I'm present. I feel the breath come in and out. Then... I'm not.

That's the point. To notice and come back.

To return to center.

On the mat... and in life.

5 Steps for Returning to Center:

1) Notice you're not.

This is the first and most important step. If you don't notice, you'll never get to the others. Because of this, you want to notice with a smile. "Ah!" As Pema Chodron says, "I take delight." You are already returning to center -- just by noticing.

You want to get really good at this first step.

2) Transform Uncentered Moments Into Centering Practices

All the things that are uncentering now -- make each one a centering practice.

  • That difficult person, the one who takes your center and runs away with it. "Ah! Thank you very much for this opportunity to practice." For 5 seconds -- can you center that long around this person? 10 seconds? When you make it interesting for yourself, you will begin to look forward to being in this person's presence so that you can practice.
  • The driver who forgets to signal, drives too slow (or too fast!), who cuts you off. "Ah! Thank you very much for this moment. I have a choice. I can get hooked by this emotion or I can breathe, center and return to equanimity."
  • Bad weather is one of my favorite teachers. Or unexpected frustrations. Being caught without my raincoat or my sense of humor. Once you notice, it is only and always a choice. All that is required is intention.

3) Practice Gratitude: Accept What Is

In the beginning, when I was first learning the art of centering, I would become disgruntled and angry with myself when I forgot to center, when I missed a ki moment that could have turned out so differently... if only... And, of course, I became even more uncentered.

I've learned to center sooner, to smile at myself more often, and to take myself less seriously. You can, too.

One of my favorite mantras is: Thank you very much. When I say this, I look for the gift that is usually present but that I'm missing by attaching myself to some other desire, by resisting what is. This is another way I have of returning to center.

One of my favorite quotations by Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido, is this:

Practice the Art of Peace in a vibrant and joyful manner.

Good ki!

Balancing the Mind and Matter

Image result for yoga poses

There is no species that is more organized than the human race. Yet we have managed to condition ourselves to high levels of stress throughout our lives. We grow up with education based stress, financial stress, social stress and emotional stress. But we rarely pause and ask ourselves: Am I Well?

What Wellbeing is

Wellbeing is often loosely described as a state of physical and emotional harmony. It is important to define a person's state of wellbeing as positive and negative, as it helps them evaluate the quality of their lives. But this general definition has many layers.

Negative wellbeing is with reference to a person who has been influenced by external problems and is physically unwell, emotionally distressed and socially unresponsive. This could either result in an agitated, anxious state of mind, or a dull, unmotivated individual. Positive wellbeing, on the other hand, refers to a physically and mentally fit individual. They may be enthusiastic, involved members of society or calm, relaxed and equally efficient.

What one must note is that a person with a positive wellbeing state faces the same problems as the person with a negative wellbeing state. What is the difference then?

The key to positive wellbeing is to understand that physical and mental fitness are interrelated. You cannot be fit in one case without being fit in the other.

But how does one prevent oneself from succumbing to the stress levels of their surroundings? We rarely make time in our lives to keep fit. We helplessly crouch under the pressure of working for a living, keeping our family safe and emotionally satisfied, and fulfilling our social duties. We cannot get rid of the problems themselves. But what we can do is rearrange our physical and mental conditioning to stress and create a state where we can easily avert the stress!

The Path to Positive Wellbeing

What methods can we adopt to improve our overall wellbeing? Technology can help to some extent, if used correctly. It will help you connect to a large array of counsellors- the Network of Empathy. But Technology and other such artificial tools can only help you acknowledge your problems.

Doctors and Company professionals are also a major help, but they often choose to only treat either your physical ailments or your emotional ailments- you will rarely find an expert who will help you attain overall wellbeing.

There is one school of thought that strives to help you balance both physical and emotional wellbeing- Holistic Healing.

The Holistic Take on Wellbeing

Holistic healing is deeply involved with positive wellbeing. It believes that physical, mental and social harmony is necessary for a healthy life. It also believes that there are many ways to achieve this, and a person is free to choose the method that suits his interests best.

Yoga, for example, is an exceptional branch of holistic thought. It is popularly associated with mere postures and positions- but the very psychology behind yoga is obtained only through years of training and expertise.

Yoga believes that for an individual to be truly well, he must engage in physical and mental exercises to attain balance, stability and perfect clarity of thought. A practitioner of yoga will often display the "calm" type of positive wellbeing. This is naturally the most sustainable form of wellbeing.

Rome Was not Built in a Day

There are many branches of the holistic path for one to explore. In order to pursue positive wellbeing, it is important to persevere in a chosen path with patience, faith, and will. Human spirit is the best healer but it is also vulnerable to negativity.

We all possess the will to acknowledge our internal and external stress and deal with it. Wellbeing first starts with a ray of hope.

My Tips To Manage Stress In The Workplace (By Brenda Lee Mitchell)

I have some tips that I share with my team at stressful times to help them to manage anxiety. The first step is to decide what is actually stressing you. Is it a lack of time, not enough training or just too much to do?

Then you need to speak with your supervisor, a colleague or a friend to help you to deal with the stress. Here are some ways that we work through stress in my office:

1. Write your thoughts in a diary, keep a log in your task section or just a note-book. You do not need to share this with anyone. Give it a little bit of time, say a week, and look for reoccurring themes. Usually without realising, you will be noting something repetitively.

2. Give yourself a way to finish your day. A lot of us leave the office but don't officially finish our work day. We replay things in our mind and talk about work with our loved ones and even dream about it. Make a ritual for your after work health. My husband and I have a 30-minute rule. We have 30 minutes to get everything out and then we don't talk about work anymore for the evening.

3. Practice yoga, meditation, go for walks or hit the gym. Give your body and mind something healthy to focus on. I love to meditate in the morning so that my mind is clear and stress free before I start and I can think clearly. I prefer to exercise, in some form at night. You can try all different things in different orders until you find what works for you.

4. Watch what you put in your mouth, drinks and food make a difference to how you feel. Try to eat healthy food with lots of water as bad food will make you feel even worse.

5. When you are calm, go through your list of stress points with your team leader or manager and see what can be done to make it easier. Perhaps they have a way that they deal with the same item in a calm way. This is not about handing over your work, rather finding a way to deal with what you must do.

6. Take your breaks regularly. I was getting told constantly by my team that they were too busy for breaks, but it is just not productive. By taking that short afternoon tea break or having a break away from your desk you are actually giving your mind and body the time to repair. Your best work will flow when you are rested.

Stress can be different for everyone. Find what works for you and remember that your team is there to support each other. They may be feeling the same, so take the time to speak with each other and your leader.

Finding Your Center

Are you familiar about Yoga class? In Yoga class the instructor would often tell the students to find their center. The instructor means the student should try to focus on discarding all outside influences and establish within himself a calm and serene mind. Upon achieving this state the student will then start to know the true nature of thoughts that are parading on his mind.

The calm and serene state of mind is the real state of our mind. Mind is like a blank paper that whatever you wrote on it will be identified with the paper. This is the same with mind that whatever thought you entertain your mind will Identify with it. We should accept that whether we like it or not our mind has its own nature which we are bound to recognize in this life.

In finding our center we will learn that mind is one of our tools while living in this world. It is one of the powerful faculties that we have not yet perfected to use. The complexity of our mind makes us a very different being in this world with the highest potential for growth. Although serene and calm in its original state the mind is full packed with universal energy that can affect not only the person but also everything outside it.

Once you find your center you will begin resolving problems easier than when your mind is not focused. Because in being with your center you will learn that focus or concentration is the best approach in problem solving. You will learn to manage your emotions and mentality as if they are also one of the tools that you have the access to improve your maturity over life.

In finding your center you will realize that everything we have only serves us. Our ability to use them will be optimized once you realized that being the center of your being you are very alive and not limited. But finding your center is very hard to achieve even the oldest person in this world might have not yet grown closer in knowing his very center.

It might take us our lifetime to at least achieve a closer realization of being with our center. Our everyday battles in life and all its joys and sorrows simply push us closer to being with our center. We will realize that joys and sorrows are just means that will lead us into finding our very center in our being.

Simply put, the center of our being is like the watcher of different movies in television. The watcher will feel the actions and emotions of the characters in the movie but in the end he will realize that all that he watched was just a movie and doesn't have anything  to do with him.

Release The Stress In Your Life Without Spending A Cent

On any given day, you can find all sorts of claims online and in magazines and newspapers, promising to rid you of all the stress in your body for a small fee (or sometimes a big one). Well, for the most part these claims are exaggerated, and any person claiming to offer stress busting advice for money shouldn't be trusted. There are a huge number of things you can do to relieve the stress in your life, and they don't come with a price tag attached. I'm going to go through some of these: what they are and how you can best utilise them in your life.

Meditation

First on my list is meditation. Do you meditate? If you answered no, then you most likely haven't heard about the extensive health benefits meditation brings, including stress relief. A simple breathing exercise lasting no more than 20 minutes can effectively release you from your stress and tension.

Firstly, attempt to get into the Buddha Vairochana position. This isn't essential, but it does help immensely with stress relief and relaxation. With your back straight, and your tongue touching the back of your upper teeth, tilt your head forward ever so slightly, keeping your eyes open.

Once you are comfortably in this position, simply allow your mind to become aware of anything that may be distracting you in your life. As you breathe out, imagine these distractions dispersing with your breath, out of your body in the form of smoke. As you breathe in, imagine everything that is good coming into your body. Repeat this breathing exercise twenty-one times.

Music

Something as simple as your favourite album, artist or track will help you to relieve stress. Make sure you're not listening to anything too loud or violent (heavy metal and hip hop may not be the best choices!) and make sure you're listening through your headphones. Get into a relaxing position in your home, turn off the television and other electronic devices (apart from your MP3 player) and relax.

Tea

There are all sorts of types of tea that have effective stress relieving properties. For tea to be most effective, though, you need to be in the right environment. At the end of the working day, take half an hour on your own sitting in your living room or lying on your bed with a mug of hot green tea. The theanine contained in green tea has a soothing effect on your central nervous system.

Yoga

As well as being a great way to stay in shape, certain yoga poses are brilliant for relieving stress.

- Salutation seal: Sitting comfortably with your legs crossed, bring your hands together in a praying motion to your heart chakra. Hold this pose for 3 minutes.

- Sukhasana: This pose (also known as easy pose) involves sitting cross legged and placing your hands on each knee, with your fingers relaxed and barely touching. This pose amplifies the state of serenity and tranquillity, whilst also eliminating anxiety.

5 Amazing Sex Secrets That Have Stood The Test Of Time

Ayurveda is the art of living in harmony with nature. Dating back to India more than 5,000 years ago, it's considered the “sister science” with yoga and meditation. When pursued together, these practices help us reach our full potential in body, mind, and spirit.
In Ayurveda, sex is considered an essential part of life. It's as important to our relationships as food or sleep is to us individually. In Ayurveda, sex is not merely a physical act — it's the union of two bodies, minds, and souls. It's meant as a loving expression between two willing, monogamous adults.
To help make sex a fulfilling and spiritual experience, here are five tips Ayurveda recommends:
1. Choose the right time of day.
According to Ayurveda, the ideal time for sex is between 10 and 11 p.m. This is a time period when we tend to be more relaxed and can give our partner the undivided attention that he or she deserves. At this time of night, usually at least two hours after eating, food has been thoroughly digested and sleep can come directly after.
2. Don't "misuse" sex.
Ayurveda explains that when sex is satisfying, and practiced over time with one partner, it not only benefits the relationship but also helps the two individuals to stay healthy and vital.
“Unsatisfying” sex, or sex that makes one of the individuals uncomfortable, can have negative effects on both mental and physical health. Ayurveda strictly prohibits “misuse” of sex in any way because it opens up a storm of emotional and psychological issues.
Examples of misuse would be having sex when you're angry, having sex with someone you don’t love, or having sex when either person isn't feeling well or doesn’t want to participate.
3. Know your partner’s dosha.
In Ayurveda there are three types, or doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. The frequency and type of sex depends on the constitution of each individual. Each has its own qualities, strengths, and challenges. Knowing your own, as well as your partner's, can help strengthen your sex life.
Kapha types, dominant in the earth and water elements, possess more stamina than others. They indulge in sex less frequently but for longer periods of time. In other words: quality over quantity.
Pitta types, dominant in the fire and water elements, are very passionate people. They like intense sex, and it can be difficult to quench their desire.
Vata types, dominant in the elements of air and space, are inconsistent with their desire. They prefer to mix things up rather than stick to a routine. They like change, as well as happy surprises.
4. Engage the five senses during sex.
The environment, food, music, and lighting all play important parts in developing intimacy, closeness, and comfort. Take time to set the stage, and be mindful of your surroundings and senses.
Kapha types are particularly sensitive to taste and smell, so keep this in mind when you want to get your Kapha going. It’s all about the tongue, and the nose. A wonderful meal, scented candles, or some aromatherapy help to win over a Kapha partner.
Pittas respond most to visual stimulation. Make sure they like what they see. Set the stage with soft lighting, beautiful flowers, or a sexy ensemble.
Vatas respond most to touch and sound. They love to hear sweet words whispered, and feel warm hands on their skin. A warm oily massage and some soft music help get them to focus on the task at hand.
5. Pay attention to the seasons.
Each season has its own type. It's important to know how the qualities of each relate to your sex life.
Kapha time is in the spring. It’s a very flirty, loving, and romantic season.
Pitta time is during the hot months of summer. It's common for people to feel a bit more passionate, or “hot,” when the weather heats up.
Vata season is the cool and dry months of fall and winter. It’s a good time to cuddle, as we need more “warm-up” time to get in the mood.

15 Easy (And Cheap!) Ways To Boost Your Mood

On days when I'm feeling low, I wish I could afford to blow $500 on a shopping spree or spend a day at the spa. But realistically, most of us have other priorities for that money, like rent.
Luckily, I have a reservoir of mood-boosters under $15. Here are my go-tos:
1. Buy a Scratch 'N Win (or five). Even if you don't win, the scratching process can be enjoyable!
2. If you have a car, take it through the car wash. It's an easy way to feel productive and derive satisfaction from the completed result.
3. Go to a drop-in yoga, spin, or fitness class. Many studios will have karma classes or a free class for first timers.
4. Treat yourself to a journal, and write down what you're feeling. Don't judge what you write; do it for the therapeutic process, not the product.
5. Browse Meetup groups and challenge yourself to attend one meetup in the next week (so long as it's under $15 ...).
6. Go on a shopping spree ... at a thrift store!
7. Download an audio book or new album.
8. Make a donation to your local SPCA. and ask if there are any friendly animals you can hold or play with. Pet therapy is becoming more and more popular.
9. Peruse Groupon for sweet deals under $15.
10. Buy a friend (or stranger) coffee.
11. Offer to buy someone lunch.
12. Get your eyebrows threaded.
13. See if there's a massage school in your area. Most will offer massages for $10 or $15.
14. Find a yummy recipe with ingredients under $15, and bake (if you don't have a healthy relationship with baking when you're down, bake for a friend or lover).
15. Get a disposable camera and find moments of mindfulness by being a photographer for a day. Like the journaling, do it for the process, not the product.
Have a cheap mood-booster of your own? Add it to the list!

Feeling Stressed? Some Simple Ways to Relieve Stress

Do you lie awake at nights, being plagued by thoughts and problems? Do you often find yourselves anxious, nervous and highly irritable during the day?... If the answer is 'yes', you are under stress!.. Stress kills!.. Stress affects the mind and the body in equal measures. It is one of the most severe and rising problems of recent times and affects each and every person at some point of life. Here are some simple relaxation techniques to help fight stress:
1. Take a stroll: One of the easiest ways to cope with everyday stress, is to take a walk. Take a stroll around the neighborhood, climb steps in your building, finish your grocery shopping... step out! If going for a stroll is not possible, go to your kitchen garden or open the window. Breathe in... you will immediately feel able to face the day again and resume your activities.
2. Music: Music is a wonderful way to reduce your heart rate and anxiety levels. Listening to soothing sounds like birds chirping, or the flow of water helps calm the mind and helps it relax. You can always crank up the volume button and rock your blues away to the upbeat music... or you can sing at the top of your voice, if it works for you!
3. Yoga and other exercises: For thousands of years, yoga has proved to have answers to all life's maladies. Some simple asanas like a spinal twist, shavasana (corpse pose) or balasana (child's pose) etc can help you relax completely and reduce your stress levels dramatically. Stress, leads to muscle stiffness, so doing these asanas, which include stretch to the muscles, help relieve stress.
Besides yoga, any other form of exercise, releases endorphins in the body. These are chemicals that make you feel 'high' and induce a sense of well-being. Along with exercises, breathing techniques like meditation helps you alleviate stress levels and calms the mind. Also forms like hypnosis and reiki can help in highly stressful conditions.
4. Goof it up: The adage 'laughter is the best medicine' proves true in highly stressed conditions. Laughter reduces the levels of cortisol, a stress hormone and boosts the working of the brain. It increases the blood flow and distracts you from excess anxiety. So, rent a comedy, or swap jokes.
5. Take a whiff: Some highly aromatic oils like anise, basil, eucalyptus, lemon etc when inhaled directly or added to your bath water helps reduce the stress related tension in the body. Depending on the scent, you can either stimulate your brain or can relax the mind.
6. Massage: if possible, indulge in some massage therapy. Massage increases blood circulation in the body and the brain. This helps flush out many toxins and even soothes the many aches and pains that arise due to muscle stiffness, as a result of excessive stress.
There are many ways in which you can fight stress and not let it overcome you. Recognize that you are under stress and take measures accordingly.

How One Simple Breathing Technique Can Induce Better Health

We all do it, all day, every day. Even while we sleep. In fact we never ever stop doing it. If we did we would die. But do we ever think about it? Do we realise just how much of an impact it has on our bodies, our minds and our overall health?
It is the simple act of respiration. That’s right – breathing! Believe it or not, there are different ways to breathe, which have different effects on the body and our health. But let’s just take a look at two. Nose breathing which induces relaxation, calm, and improves health, and the other mouth breathing, which most of us do by default, because of the lives we lead, which contributes to many health concerns like elevated blood pressure and an increase in resting heart rate.
I would like to share with you an extract from my latest book Sports Pattern Release. In this extract I explain how breathing effects the human body. I will then offer you a simple breathing technique to support better health.
“Breathing is something that is all too often overlooked but is of the utmost importance in correct biomechanical function. The human body will sacrifice everything to maintain respiratory function and this includes posture. Nasal breathing is the way we are pre-programmed to breathe and mouth breathing is triggered by stress. Interestingly, when posture is poor, it is easier to breathe through the mouth and harder to breathe nasally. The reverse is also true, illustrating the close relationship between breathing and posture. Additionally, mouth breathers often breathe much less deeply, only using the upper chest, whereas nose breathers tend to use the diaphragm making full use of the lungs, oxygenating the blood and brain. If the diaphragm becomes inhibited through poor posture, stress or bad habits, the accessory inhibitory muscles will overwork, becoming overactive, leading to trigger points and chronic tension.
“There are many different yoga breathing exercises. Pranayama breathing, which is the practice of voluntary breath control, when practised slowly has been shown to have positive effects on immune function, hypertension, asthma, autonomic nervous system imbalances and psychological or stress-related disorders. It has been hypothesised that voluntary slow deep breathing functionally resets the autonomic nervous system. Investigations have demonstrated that slow pranayama breathing techniques activate the parasympathetic (inhibitory) nervous system. This type of breathing employed with deep stretching will have a combined effect on stimulating parasympathetic activity while concurrently decreasing sympathetic activity. This will lower the heart rate, blood pressure and induce relaxation”.
So by simply working on our breathing technique we can induce better health both physiologically and mentally.

Try this exercise for a few minutes each day

Either lie down or sit with a lengthened spine, to open the airways fully. Close your eyes and your mouth and place your hands on your belly and inhale slowly and deeply through your nose feeling your belly rise as you do. Now move your hands to the base of your ribs and continue the inhalation into the mid-section of your lungs and feel your ribcage expand laterally. Lastly move your hands to your upper chest breathe into the top of the lung and feel the chest rise. Hold that breath for a moment, before very slowly exhaling from the top, then the middle and lastly form the base of your lungs. Do this for at least five minutes. Try to focus on this and think of nothing else; give it your full attention. Take note of how you feel after this exercise.
The more you practice the deeper your breathing will become and the more benefits you will achieve. And the best thing? It’s totally free!!
