Recognize Your Personal Strengths - Know What Strengths You Bring, Then Bring 'Em

Recognize your strengths - the biggest fallacy in life is that we've gained nothing that we can use, as we grow older.

Women, specifically seem to believe after the kids are grown up and gone, if they weren't involved in a career their skill-set is useless. When Jodi asked me last week about whether or not her skills as a writer, those ones she learned back in high school, were any good at this point in time, I said, "Don't you read now?"

Totally in awe of the fact that people did go to school 'way back when' but they're still LIVING now. How can that happen? Do they just use the skills they acquired in school and never learn anything new?

Most people learn something new every single day. Perhaps what they learn is useful, or perhaps not. But learning is an on-going lifetime process that you do all the time.

This morning, while talking to my daughter, I learned that she had gained incredible skills of research and investigation after our first experience with a tornado. The tornado didn't touch down, but she had been sent to a basement for some crazy reason and she wanted to know why, so she took a dive off the hard wood floors of the library into a book about weather and learned at the tender age of nine that tornadoes appear when changes in temperature take place at high altitudes. Before the tornado can touch down, it has to gain sufficient sucking power to shift the temperature down the funnel which moves the funnel downward.

Independent learning is something most of us do naturally. Every day.

The REALITY - in one way or another - you've overcome every obstacle that ever landed in your path. Every turn of the road, you've found a way to step over, climb, walk around or overcome the obstacles you've faced. What strengths have you gained from those experiences?

Take a moment and write those down. Perhaps you're tenacious, dedicated to survival, or perhaps you've learned to negotiate your way out of paper bags? One particularly brilliant young woman I've known for a lifetime, could literally sell snow to an Eskimo. She's an absolute WHIZ when it comes to sales. What is your strength? Write that down.

Here are a few things that might have motivated you to grow life long strengths:

1) Relocating to a different area.

If you and your family relocated, you most likely had to find new educational resource. Perhaps, during the move you had to find and provide transportation for your family, locate your new home in a new town.

2) Change jobs, or help your spouse or children find a job.

This kind of personal assistance will increase your ability to communicate and interact with others.

3) Negotiate through class work and schedules with your children.

Negotiation skills are top end in most any business. Don't negate those negotiating skills, they are really important.

So what are your personal strengths?

Talking About Skills and Methods for Creative Thinking

Photo of Women at the Meeting

For some people, creative thinking is inherent however if you are not one of them you have nothing to worry about, because you can practice and develop the skill.

Listed below are a few skills that could nurture creative thinking skills:

Being organized - Organization and creativity may be antonyms in theory. People usually perceive that creativity would mean being unusual, with disorganized and unique thoughts, however that is not quite the case. Organizational skills will help you have a grip on your ideas and thoughts and assist creative thinking.

Reasoning Skills - Reasoning skills can trigger nurturing and development of creative thinking skills. Being able to reason out will help a lot when you are put in a difficult solution and you will be able to get a quick and effective solution to any problem.

Objectivity - This helps you to explore a lot of alternatives, options and possibilities to a single situation, and helps you to think beyond the usual, common ideas.

Any skill in the arts - if you are skilled in dance, music, poetry, drawing; your mind is already conditioned to be creative, let your thoughts flow and be a creative thinker. You have been gifted with creativity through your art, so creative thinking will come easily to you.

Creative thinking is quite a compelling skill, and it requires a lot of other skills to nurture and develop this skill. The above mentioned skilled may be inherent for you, otherwise you can work on building up those skills, which will help you further to nurture and inculcate creative thinking. These skills will simplify and trigger the development of creative thinking skills.

Creative Thinking Methods

Creative thinking and development of these skills is a very personal process, there are no rules or no uniform protocols for the same. However, creative thinking can be triggered with the help of this basic procedure and sticking to this procedure will help you develop your creative thinking skills.

This is a simple four step procedure.

Step 1: Analyze

The first step would include a complete analysis of the problem or situation.

Don't jump to conclusions; just give time to do a detailed analysis of the situation till you know all aspects of the problem or situation. Resolve any queries or apprehensions you have. The first step involves nothing but gathering all the correct and required information about the situation.

Ask all the questions about the situation, and know the situation in and out.

Step 2: Brainstorming

After all the analysis of the situation, the next step is brainstorming. This is where creative thinking actually begins. Do what works best for you, think and brainstorm in a way which will be the best for you.

There are various ways in which you can brainstorm; you can jot your ideas, yell them out, talk and discuss them with people or even try out a few of your ideas. Keep a tab on your thoughts and ideas, as they come.

Step 3: Break It Down

After brainstorming, you will have quite a lot of ideas and solutions to your problems. It's time to shortlist the best ideas and sort out the ones which will be effective. You can alter your ideas for them to be more effective and change the ideas to complement the circumstances.

This step is nothing but going through your ideas, separating the ones which will be effective from the ones which won't, alter those ideas to fit the situation.

Step 4: Review

Last but not the least; finalize your idea from the top best ideas and make sure your solution is effective and foolproof.

After you shortlist a few ideas and separate the effective ones from the lot, you will further pick only 1-2 such ideas which will be effective and useful, after which try and get to the depth of how foolproof these ideas will be and how they should be put to use.

You need organizational skills to be good at creative thinking, and this procedure is a pre-requisite to develop creative thinking skills.

Attitude and Peak Performance - Part 1

Kick out

Many people wrongly assume that if they have the skills required to do the job, their attitude makes little or no difference. I look at someone with great ability and a bad attitude the same way I look at a Ferrari without any gas; it may look great and be full of potential, but without gas, it is not going anywhere. Attitude is what fuels peak performance in all fields.

The skills you possess, whether it is athletic ability, a medical degree, or a Ph.D., are just your ticket into the arena. What keeps you in the arena and determines how successful you will ultimately become in that arena is your productivity, and that is determined by your attitude.

The NFL Draft starts today and although the NFL has gotten much better at evaluating more than just the physical side of players, there is still a lot of room for improvement. I say this because when I ask a coach or other team representative about a player, the first thing out of their mouth is still always about their physical ability. For example, if it is a quarterback they will say something like "he can make all the throws." My first thought is, that tells me nothing about his likelihood of success and is near the minimum of my expectations. I want a guy who won't be satisfied with anything less than a championship.

In the 1980's Delta airlines had one of the worst slogans ever in my humble opinion: "Delta gets you there." That expressed an attitude of "We just do the minimum." Would Delta be in business if they didn't get you there? That's like Nike having the slogan 'We have shoes you can wear.' Instead Nike went with "Just Do It" and that attitude of accomplishing things inspired the company to greater heights.

There's a saying most football coaches know that illustrates the importance of attitude: "He looks like Tarzan, but plays like Jane." Many athletes look imposing getting off the bus, but have poor attitudes that keep them from fulfilling their potential. The same is true of people who look good on paper. I always say 'Credentials do not produce things, people and their actions do.'

I want to work with people who have their greatest accomplishments in their future, not their past. I don't want people who can show me what they have done, I want people who can't wait to show me (and the world) what they can do.

Who do you think will be more successful, the person who when approached with an idea immediately lists all the reasons it won't work, or the person who starts suggesting ways to make it happen? Nearly everything that makes our lives easier are things that at first glance people said would never be possible.

A bad attitude can poison the entire well, so don't fall for impressive credentials or striking physical stature alone. Take the person with desire over credentials or physical stature every-time. If you work at it you may even find the rarest of individuals, those who have desire along with credentials and physical prowess as well.

Prepare to Succeed by Taking an Inventory of Your Skills (By Tammi Brannan)

Handheld Tools Hang on Workbench

This week I'm doing a workshop that has the same title as this article. In the workshop, I will help people identify 30 of their skills and then brainstorm ways they can apply those skills at home and at work.

Why do I need to do this? Because if you were to ask the average American what their skills were, he or she would most likely be able to count them on less than one hand. Sadly, some would even shake their heads, toe the ground and say that they had none. What would you say?

ARGH! This saddens me like nothing else! Each one of us was given the same amount of skills, but unique to us. Without the use of these skills, we will never fulfill our unique potential.

In this workshop, I will use the analogy of a contractor who mistakenly believes the only tools he has are in his tool belt. In the back of his truck, however are a ton more... but he has either forgotten that he had them or never knew. Imagine the contractor trying to use a hammer when he should be using a wrench. He has a wrench in the back of his truck, but it's so buried and rusted from lack of use that he's completely forgotten all about it. This will lead to frustration and eventual demise for both the contractor and the project... not to mention the poor hammer!

This is just like us... we approach our jobs with the few skills we admit we have, and inevitably run into roadblocks, because our jobs require more of us than we think we have. This continual lack of success makes us think less of ourselves and verifies our opinion that we have little to give. Do you feel the same?

Instead of looking to see if we have more tools in the back of our own truck, like the contractor, we try to emulate those around us who are successful, thinking that they must have received more skills than we did, but they haven't!

If you want to achieve greater success in your career, you must become aware of your skills. You have just as many as the next dude, promise. You know how hard it is to walk in someone else's shoes, so don't try to achieve success with someone else's skills. It will not work.

Taking inventory of your skills is fun and easy! Here are a few questions to get you started:
• What do you receive compliments on?
• When do people thank you?
• When do you notice that you can do something and another cannot... or it takes them longer with less successful results?

The answers to these questions are indicators of your skills. There is a lot more digging to do here, but this is a start!

Remember... everything you find needs to make its way into your tool belt as you do your job day in and day out. Without the application of your research, you will never experience the success you were meant to achieve.

How You THINK, You Are

While some people possess certain skills, abilities, attributes, and an aptitude, which might be beneficial, and give them, a, so - called, leg - up, on the rest of us, in the vast number of instances, and situations, it's our quality of thinking, which creates, either, a positive, can - do, attitude, or an abundance of weakness, and self - doubt. Those, with self - confidence, and a positive, self - image, generally, start off, with a significant advantage, over those who think, they can't. While your thinking, and thought - processes, are significant, the most essential component, is when one begins with the concept and idea, he will be successful, and begins to behave and act, as a success, does, his potential is exponentially, enhanced! As the adage goes, As you THINK, you are! With that in mind, this article will attempt to briefly examine, review, consider, and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, why this concept is one of the most important, to one's ability to perform, to his potential.

1. Trust; temptation; timely; traction; thoughts: Our thoughts, often, control our actions, and thus, our performance. The more, we trust ourselves, the less likely, one is, to let the temptation, to accept, a short - cut, rather than the best approach. While most procrastinate, because of lack of, optimum, self - confidence, etc, the most successful individuals, proceed, with well - considered, timely action, When one refuses to remain within the limitations of his personal, comfort zone, and expands it, and proceeds, proactively, he begins to gain the necessary traction, to become the best, he can be!

2. Head/ heart; hear: When you have those, intimate, self - conversations, what do you tell yourself, and, precisely, what do you hear, and why? Will you be able to effectively utilize your emotional and logical components, with a head/ heart balance?

3. Inspire; imagine; image; ideas; integrity: While many claim to, few actually, proceed, with the utmost degree of personal integrity! WIll your thoughts inspire you, or be a hindrance? What image do you visualize, and what do you imagine, you can achieve? WIll you use these qualities, to perceive and conceive of, create, develop, and implement, quality actions, based on your ideas?

4. Needs; never: Will you commit, to, never - say - never? Will you identify, and prioritize, your personal goals, and address your needs, in a proactive manner?

5. Knowledge; know: Are you focused - enough, to make knowledge, your friend and ally, so you know, your options and alternatives, and proceed, with the finest judgment, and hopefully, wisdom?

How you THINK, you are! What do you think?

How Motivated People Grow

Motivated & Unmotivated Individuals

It is not at all uncommon to hear people complain about their job as being boring or as if they are stuck in a rut. These individuals go about the daily routine just going through the motions, often disliking their job and not feeling very good about themselves, their abilities or their potential.

The opposite type of individual is someone who is personally motivated. These people look at a job for its potential and they strive to learn as much as possible, experience as much as they can and develop as many skills as possible to the fullest extent. They see their job as a stepping stone and not a final destination.

The Difference

The exciting thing about people is that the first type of employee, the unmotivated complainer, can change to become a motivated individual. This all starts by setting small goals and seeing those goals provide a positive impact on your life.

Motivation of this type, which is internal and personal, is very powerful in creating the opportunities to grow. By tasking yourself with a series of growth challenges, you will find ways to become better at your job or to develop the skill set needed to find the job you have always wanted.

Getting Started with Growth

The first thing that anyone that wants to use motivation to grow has to do is to develop a roadmap for their life. It should include both personal and professional goals. These goals represent the things you want to do, not the things you feel obligated to do.

Write these things down as your final goals. Then, look for small mini-goals you can set to help you to achieve the big goal. For example, if you wanted to learn to speak another language, you first need to find a class, sign up for the class, attend the classes and so on. Clearly define each step in your goal, setting a timeline to accomplish each mini-goal. This type of strategizing can make the difference between growing substantially and not growing at all.

As you work through the mini-goals, you will find your level of motivation increases. You will start experiencing a change in the way you see your situation, with opportunities to expand your growth in different areas of life. You will also strengthen your will power which will help you create motivational habits that turn into long-term success.

Cause of Failure and Success

Why some people fail and others succeed can be baffling. Sometimes it may even seem unfair. If our desire to succeed is as strong as theirs, and if we have the added virtues of philosophical refinement and emotional sophistication, why are we not all doing better than they are?

What an incredible difference we could make! And what an inheritance we could leave to the next generation-a wealth of virtue, integrity, and substance with which to build a whole new world, and all because we cared enough to do something with our lives and to put our skills and talents to work.

Striving for success without hard work is like trying to harvest where you haven't planted. Why does opportunity matter if success is innate? How do they earn it? The ladder of success is best climbed by stepping on the rungs of opportunity. Do you believe that opportunity provides a possibility of success, a probability of success, or that it's trivial?

I hope this is coming together for you. I still want to go further though. People who believe success is innate see their opportunity as trivial. Of course, people don't stay in one class their entire life. They Define Work Wrong/ The value of a man's position is often determined by the number of people qualified to fill it. Why We just discussed two important terms: success and opportunity. In order to continue our discussion further, we must discuss another, "work." "But success doesn't always come from hard work!

They think failure is final. Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm. But, hard work doesn't always equal success. Some people work really hard but fail. They tried and didn't succeed." Failure is a key ingredient in success. Those who don't achieve success most likely quit after their failure. Quitting, of course, is a choice. There are no shortcuts, statistically. The people who don't make it let failure defeat them.

Success is a game of habits. In itself, "success" is a relative term and so its "achievement" is fully dependent upon the habits you put into place that moves you step by step toward the "end" you define for yourself. To be "successful," it becomes a matter of the routine you put into place for yourself. Whenever you are looking outward, for example, it is very clear the difference between those who create positive daily habits for themselves versus the people who let life's waves dictate their day-to-day.

Successful people plan ahead. Failure to prepare is the act of preparing to fail. Spend some time each night, and at the end of each week, reflecting on what it is you've accomplished already and what it is you want to "get done" next. And the next morning, you will be one step ahead.

Successful people do the hard stuff first. That's because hard stuff is, well, "hard. But often times, what moves the needle lies in the unknown. Those who are successful at what they do know this. And instead of shying away from the challenge, they make themselves do these "hard tasks" first--before allowing themselves the luxury of the easy stuff.

They don't want to make others feel bad, or they don't want to sever current or potential friendships, or they don't want to be excluded from future possibilities, or they don't want to be looked down upon, etc.

Successful people are very conscious of how they spend their time. Successful people invest in themselves in terms of time and money. The majority of people don't invest; they spend. They spend the money they earn. Successful people, on the other hand, invest.

Successful people surround themselves with other successful people. Your network is your net worth. The true value of having a network is not access to "things. Successful people study their craft. Unfortunately, there are situations that reward the fundamental metric of time, and people can climb the ladder of "success" by simply staying the course.

Successful people are accountable for their actions. Successful people believe in themselves. To be successful, this is a must. Believe in yourself. That's where it all starts.

Successful people don't separate their job and their "personal life." Their job is their passion, and their passion is their craft. It is not dependent upon time. It is merely a reflection of their own curiosity

10 Steps To Kick-Start Your Learning

Making a start can be difficult and tricky given that skill requirement is evolving rapidly. It is important to keep an eye on the future need while you decide to upgrade. Further, clarity of goals and direction makes it easy to identify the starting point.

Let me share with you the ten steps that will help you make a start

Rank Your Skill Need - List the skills that you want to learn and assign them a rank on the basis of -

  • How urgent is it to acquire the skill? - Urgency
  • Will it help fixing the gap in the skill set or building new ones? - Relevance
  • Will it help to achieve the short or long-term goals? - Impact

Once you have ranked the skill basis these factors, pick up the skill with the highest rank.
Detailed Research and Opinion - It is recommended not to jump to the first course you find, look at the course content, ensure to validate the certification and accreditation, read feedbacks and reviews about the course. While you research, it is helpful to take opinion or discuss learning options with your supervisor, mentor or anyone who understands your learning needs and gaps, so that you take a well-versed decision

Choose your Course - This has to be a confident and an independent choice. Don't be influenced by your friends or colleagues to simply follow their choices, as their goals may be different from yours. Select the course that is aligned with your objectives and aspirations

Setting up Finance - This is undoubtedly a very important factor for a lot of people. Today, from free online courses to company sponsored courses, flex-payment modes to education loans, there are ample of options available to make learning hassle. Pick the option or combine the ones that work well for you

Duration of Learning - Whether you pick up a certificate course, a diploma or a degree course, the duration should depend on your goals and commitments. The course will require you to not only invest money but time as well, so the pace of the course does matter. For instance, short-term courses are fast paced and need more of your time whereas long-term course is evenly paced and let you distribute the time over a longer span

Pick Your Option - There is a range of options available like Online classes-Web tutorial or the recently catching up platform MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses), Distance learning, Classroom lectures, Self-study. See what works best for you, as all of them have their own benefits

Enroll and Learn - Enroll with a promise to learn. Do not let your commitment die. Stay focused and build understanding, so that you can put your learnings into practice. Never burden yourself with over promise while upskilling as it may leave you demotivated

Completion - As rightly said by Robin Sharma, "Starting strong is good, finishing strong is epic." There will be personal and professional commitments or routine that may slow your progress, but it should not affect your morale. Make it a point that you finish what you started

Make it Public - Start marketing your new skill by updating your resume, social profile and job portals. Join relevant groups and talk to people in your professional network about your new skills. This will give you the visibility in the job market and act to your advantage

Celebrate - Hey, You did it! It is time to celebrate your achievement and reward your hard work. Be proud of yourself! Back to learning.

Upgrading the skills from time to time is crucial given that the life cycle of skills is becoming shorter than ever. Do not forget that the most successful people in the world simply DO what they decide on doing. It is about making a start and taking it to finishing line.

Be Confident and Take your first step!

Always Keep Learning, It Keeps You, Young

Unleash Your Skills to Pay the Bills (By Dr. Shauntel Peak-Jimenez, Ph.D)

Hey there! Thank you for clicking on this article. I feel so blessed to have this opportunity to connect with you. First of all, in no way am I insinuating that you can't pay your bills. I like words that rhyme and I thought the title sounded cool (smile). Plus this article is going to actually cover information on how you can use your skills to pay the bills. And I am referring to your skills as an entrepreneur.

If you feel led to step into entrepreneurship then there is a reason for that. And that reason is probably because part of your calling is to be an entrepreneur. And if you are like how I was many years ago you might not have realized that entrepreneurship is even a calling. So if you feel that divine nudge to become an entrepreneur then you definitely need to keep reading this article.

Many years ago back in 2009 I lost my nursing job due to corporate downsizing and that is how I was introduced to the world of entrepreneurship. But for a lot of my life I felt like I was supposed to be an entrepreneur, but I felt stuck in the 9-5 cubicle life. But when I lost my job the doors of entrepreneurship swung open for me, now by no means has it been easy, but it has been extremely rewarding. And I have been blessed to use my skills to pay the bills. And guess what? The same thing can happen for you.

So now that you have determined if you feel led to entrepreneurship, what's next? Well you must have an entrepreneurship mindset. And an entrepreneurial mindset is a much different mindset than an employee mindset. Being aware of the difference and applying an entrepreneurial mindset to your business plan, goals, and action plan can be a critical factor in whether you succeed as an entrepreneur or not.

But it doesn't stop with the entrepreneurial mindset, there are some other important things related to successful entrepreneurship, like understanding how to take your divine idea and transform it into a business model, and even after that is done you must know how to turn that business model into money. And when you can manifest the money that is when you can have financial resources to help with those bills. So as you see unleashing your skills to pay the bills is totally possible for you. And guess what? It might not be as hard as you think!

How To Create Your Own Success Story

To create your own success story, you have to realize at first that you might just be the key to it. It is quite an odd concept, and yet, if you can visualize the person you want to be, you may win half of the battle already. So, in spite of everything else, you must see where you are going to get there, right?
Therefore, what can you do to generate your own success story? How can you make your dream come true? Which are the necessary steps you have to take?

In this digital age, to succeed and to create your own success story, you must take a few simple steps. It could significantly help you make tremendous progress towards your goals. At first glance, it may sound kind of frightening, but in reality, it is precisely the opposite.

These necessary steps provide you the best chance to take advantage of your skills, abilities, talents, and effort both in professional and personal life. It allows you to get on the horse and grip the reins of your future success story with confidence. And in doing so, you can lead all of your drive towards accomplishing your objectives.

From Dreams to Success Story
When you look at it carefully, dreamers always win, once they follow through with actions of course. They are the high achievers because they have the passion for succeeding. Dreamers are passionate people who take risks and make daring moves, so that their dreams may become a reality.

Therefore, if you are a dreamer attracted to whatever success story you envision for yourself, you have to learn a few ways to visualize your future. Why? The reason is that you need to have a clear vision of what your life is going to be like.

So, you must take a snap photo of what your success story is like for you. Imagine all the details such as where do you live, how much you are making, how many employees do you have, are you sitting down with world leaders or delivering a speech on a stage, and hold on to that snapshot.

Visualize Your Success Story
By holding on to that vision like it is an obsession, you will subconsciously start making decisions that will get you there. Then you have to write your objectives down on paper each day. I do each morning and evening. And then work hard to make your goals a success story.

Visualize Yourself
To create your own success story, you have to take a snapshot of yourself and your appearance.

See the clothes you are wearing. Look at the colors you have on. Imagine the difference between now and then. Realize how you feel. See if you are smiling, severe or thoughtful.

These snapshots allow you to identify the kind of clothes you want for yourself.

Read about Any Other Success Story
You have to read and learn from other people's success stories that they all started from nothing. Most people always see and know the success but not many look at where successful people came from and what they had to do to get where they are at today.

Imagine Your Surroundings
Like I said earlier, you need to imagine all the details about your surroundings. You have to see such things as where do you live, how much money you make, how many people work for you, are you the CEO of your own business, are you sitting down or on a stage giving a speech?

These things will trigger your subconscious to push you forward to higher levels of success and create your own success story.

See Who Is at Your Side
When you look ahead, who do you see beside you, supporting you? Visualize if there are people who were already at your side while you were struggling. Imagine if the individuals that are working for you. See how many children you have, if you give back to the community around you and make a difference in other's lives.

Picture Your New Lifestyle
In any success story, there is always some reference to a change of priorities in life. So, picture how your life has changed. See the new perspective you hold for yourself. Imagine the new routines you have. Visualize your new lifestyle and how you live.

Visualizing your success is an essential part of getting you to that point. As I said before, it is already half of the battle won.

Create Your Own Success Story
Next, if you realize what your keys to change are, visualize what you want apparently and then take action, you will be well on your way to make your success story a reality. Here are some ideas to start the future.

  • It is better to do what you love. Being an entrepreneur is a great way to do what you love and get paid for it, even if it takes some time at first. Anyway, you will not feel the obligation to do what you do not want to do for the sake of a paycheck.
  • Learn new skills. Whatever your dreams are, it will require a set of new skills from you. You will have no other choice as you will be exposed to every little thing in your industry. But this experience can help you emerge as an expert one day.
  • Be your own boss, so you can decide on your working hours. However, you do have to work long hours at the beginning of any business or success story, for that matter. And when your business is growing, you can grant yourself the choice to set priorities and create your work and life balance.
  • Help others. When you build your success story, you can create jobs for other people and help those around you. You can also improve the well-being of your community by giving back.
  • Take risks and get new opportunities. Every challenge that comes into your life is an opportunity to grow. In the journey of your success story, plenty of problems will arise and make you stronger to withstand any storm.
  • You can always create your own brand. This way, you do not only own a business, but you are building a legacy that will continue its existence, even after you have departed.

So, to create your own success story, it does not matter if you want to build your own a business or not. What matters is whatever your dreams are; you will have to take risks. But again, with risk comes opportunity, then reward follows. Therefore, get a snapshot of your future yourself and go for it!

It's Only Make Believe Recovering Inner Reality Skills

'You create your own reality' has become an overused cliche; everyone has heard it, some believe it, a few understand it. Those who do understand it know that life is a lot like make-believe. Children are accomplished at make-believe. They understand they can create any reality and 'live in' any situation they choose. This works beautifully until some adult who has lived long enough to forget how things work crashes into their private world to proclaim that what they believe is real is only make-believe.

Have you seen the poster that features a lion and his cub walking together? It says 'I thought about quitting but then I saw who was watching.' An astute person will question who thought about quitting, the father or the son! Both of them had a reality they were walking towards, likely different but real to each. We are all born with instinct, like the animals. The instinct to survive is the strongest by far. The instinct to create follows closely. We enter a brand new world, a new existence devoid of anyone else's ideas. It is instinctive to begin creating, to make-believe that what you need or want is before you exactly as you imagine it would work the best.

If you are born in a country where the language is English or any nation where the language is not tonal the creative side of your brain is forced to develop mush faster. You are probably more accomplished at making believe your world is perfect in your own eyes. Those who are born into nations that have tonal languages become masters at duplication. They can copy anything with mastery. China is a great example of this. You expect a lot less in your 'perfect world' because you have not developed the natural creative instinct to create more.

The more one is exposed to people who are jaded and do not believe in making believe the faster they lose the ability to create a reality that embraces their personal dreams. Children believe the adults who surround them. Authority figures like teachers, preachers and older peers they perceive to be intelligent or believable alter their course dramatically based on the things they say and how they live. Children observe their reality. If trauma and hardships become a part of their daily lives they are even more inclined to bury hopes and dreams and adopt a victim attitude. Their creativity is encompassed in those hopes and dreams.

Things happen that we have no control over as we are growing into adulthood; many times it feels like we had no choices. The deeper that idea is embedded into your consciousness the less likely you are to understand the profundity of what is possible by using the creative side of your brain. That is the place where what it is capable of becoming reality as you understand it develops. If you are stuck or thinking of quitting it's time to make-believe again!

Taking Charge Of Your Life Right Now

What does it take to take charge of your life? When does it make sense to make the kind of changes that taking charge of your life implies? When you want to take charge of your life, you have questions you need to answer.

Courage and Confidence

It takes courage and confidence to take charge of your life. You might not feel an abundance in these areas right now if you're looking at taking charge of your life. Yet you have been courageous and confident during previous times in your life. Life requires courage! Life demands confidence!

Courage enables you to consider what might be a better set of choices. Courage gives you the get up and go to pick yourself up and take action. Courage does not replace fear. Instead, courage allows you to go forward despite fear that might be suggesting that it's too risky to move in the direction of your dreams.

Confidence allows you to use your talents and abilities in new ways. Confidence puts your skills to work in different circumstances. Confidence does not remove doubt. Rather, confidence allows you to do what you know how to do. Regardless of the doubt you may be feeling. In spite of reminders that today's circumstances are not precisely identical to how you've used your skills in the past.

Change.

Change is inevitable. Life is filled with changes. Over the course of your lifetime, you'll live in an environment that presents many things to you, sometimes overwhelming you with the sense that your entire life is filled with change. As you face challenges and deal with change, it makes sense to adapt to the new situations that arise.

Taking charge of your life has to do with adjusting to the change as it occurs. Dramatic sudden change can leave your mind spinning. That's one time when taking charge of your life demands that you reach for all the courage and confidence you can muster.

Skills.

You'll need to learn new skills. Times of change instill new skills. You can decide that you're willing to use your courage and confidence to gain the skills you need.

In fact, deciding is taking charge of your life. Because that makes it happen. I've found that when I reach deep for courage and confidence, I can decide to take action. I take charge of my life! I find that leads to happiness.

How To Accept Rejection

Woman Standing Beside Window Curtain

We learn at an early age that we don't get everything we want. In other words, we have had to deal with rejection since childhood. This makes you think that people accept rejection easily. However, the exact opposite is usually true.

People start to develop an invisible shield against rejection. They may show anger or resentment to the people who are serving up the rejection. But, in many cases, it can show who is resilient and who is likely to continue until they get what they want.

No one likes to hear negative comments about themselves. People take it personally. However, knowing the reason for rejection can help change your direction. You can correct the aspects that made people reject you in the first place.

This won't work with everything. For instance, if a person you are attracted to does not return the favor, it may be difficult or impossible to turn this around. Then again, there are numerous stories of people who persevered even when they were rejected time and again, and won the love of their lives.

Another instance where you may face rejection is during a job interview. Many candidates will pass this off as incompetence on the part of the interviewer, and there are certainly cases where this is true. But, you should always try to evaluate the reasons why the interviewer did not choose you. You'd be surprised at how few people even ask for the reasons. Interviewers won't typically volunteer this information. Many will feel you don't care if you don't ask.

In many cases, rejection is not personal. You may not have the necessary skills when seeking a job, or you may not have enough experience, etc. In other cases, it may be somewhat personal, but it may be in your best interest to get rejected. For instance, if you don't have an aggressive personality, do you want to pursue a career that requires one? If you are in sales, you need to have this driving personality to succeed.

Finally, use rejection to your benefit. People who accept rejection and don't give up are usually the ones who eventually get that acceptance. Sometimes, the very fact that you are persevering is what turns the tables from rejection to acceptance. Who is to say that next opportunity is not the one that will accept you? You won't know unless you continue on your quest.

From Little Things, Big Things Grow!

Songs have been written on this title about social change over the years and the saying was not new in the 1900's. For me, I see this as a great quote for small business people who start out with very little and with courage and determination go ahead and create their passion into a business that they are proud to own.

Great things may come from small beginnings as we find with small business owners. An essay within in 1798 by D.Everett in The Columbian Orator says: "Large streams from little fountains flow, Tall oaks from little acorns grow." So as we can see, this is a concept that has been around for a very long time!

A more familiar quote is "Mighty oaks grow from little acorns" or "Great oaks from little acorns grow" no doubt rings a bell to most readers. Again, saying that sometimes small and modest can become very large and impressive with time.

We start our business initially by using the skills we have learned. The most important structure we create needs to have a strong foundation so that it can build from small beginnings into what we want to create with our time and expertise in the future. Being aware of our own skillset and what the required skills are for success for the enterprise is all important.

Great things or people often have humble origins. With the correct structure and people in place it is possible to create what we want. Being in business is a learning curve for us all.

Working with clients now over many years I have discovered that for a solo operator to become successful they must be aware of their own innate gifts. By understanding this, one can then find the people they need to surround themselves with to create the success that they want. This must be a win-win for all concerned and joint venturing or collaborations work well today for small business owners.

I find that people go into business these days more out of necessity as they cannot find the job or work that they want. We are fortunate to be able to start out on a shoestring and work from home, which was not always possible. As the economy changes and people need to become more creative, we find that interesting businesses are arising from no-where, often from hobbies or a creative urge for survival.

Being in business takes a survival instinct, a creative bent and a courage that makes it all possible.

Many businesses start with little or no funding other than lots of persistence, sweat and tears, along the way. To believe in oneself and the skills that each of us has is the biggest quality that is needed initially. Once we have been able in our head to create and see the vision of what we want to build, we then need to understand our WHY for wanting it.

Many business people understand and know the WHAT of their business. Without the WHY, which is what will make it blossom, failure is often inevitable.

It is important to firstly know your 'why' for creating your business. Once you understand this you can then look at the 'what', then 'who' you need, 'where' and 'when' you need it and lastly 'how' are you going to make it happen?

Dependent on the personality of the business owner, they will need to have the correct two people around them who will balance out the business skillsets. This process is found through 'Wealth Dynamics' created by Roger Hamilton. This is a thinking profile which supports solo and small business owners to greater success.

So, are you ready to grow from something small to something large?

If you answer yes, I will ask you 'Why'. I would then go through the series of questions using the above words to work with you. Understanding and having goals are necessary for you to build your business. Knowing how to plan and time your business is important to as many businesses grow too fast without the correct infrastructure, and inevitably run out of funds or the foundations crumble.

Owning a business is the most freeing and creative endeavour a true entrepreneur can do. It is important that you have more than the technical skills though as understood the Michael Gerber's book 'The E-Myth - Revisited'. A MUST READ for all business owners. Too many people starting a business are the technician not the entrepreneur.

Being an entrepreneur is about taking initiative and risks, in the attempt to make a profit. This is not as easy as it sounds as many people find out who have tried. Find the people to put around you who can help you grow your creation using their skills along with your ideas and innate gifts.

One of the most important things that a business owner needs to do is learn to understand themselves. Start, if you haven't already, to do personal development. Getting to really know yourself, your strengths and weaknesses and what makes you tick will be the greatest gift you can give yourself. Only by learning about yourself can you really grow and be successful.

The gift of a successful business owner is being able to go to bed at night and sleep well. If you toss and turn and become sleep deprived, you will make mistakes and not make good decisions for your future.

So, I say, grow yourself and then grow your business.

The Cost Of Taking Shortcuts

How do you define someone who is successful? Maybe they have results to show for their work - a lot of money, expensive car, big house, etc. This may look like success to you, but you don't really know how they achieved it. It could be luck or it could be doing the appropriate things to get them to that point.

I like to define success as your ability to achieve your desired outcome.

If your goal is to be a successful network marketer with a certain amount of money coming in every month and you have no idea how to achieve that, then you will start making the same mistakes that many others make.

Don't focus on what you think you must have to be successful. When you do this, your focus will turn negative when you don't see these things happening as fast as you would like. Now you find your motivation has changed and this will stop you from achieving what you want.

Change your definition of success. It's not about the results, but your ability to achieve those results.

You probably have big goals for your business. Maybe you want to quit your job, travel extensively, be around more for your family, time freedom, etc. But first you must develop certain abilities to get you to your goal.

Set milestones for yourself along the way. These will lead you closer to your goal instead of that mysterious, elusive goal out there in the future somewhere. Chunk it down. What is the closest, smallest, most achievable and believable goal you can achieve for yourself right now?

Once you start shifting your focus, things will become much easier because it's not longer a big, mysterious unattainable goal. Learn one skill at a time to get you there. Whether it be writing blog posts, creative emails, captivating videos, driving traffic to your website...

Become great at that skill. Learn it, master it and then become great at the next step.

This will almost make your success inevitable because everything will start to flow naturally. You are becoming that person and now have the ability because of the skills you are developing.

One more important thing is to make sure you have the right spirit behind your actions. Ask how you can serve other people. Do your best to serve others with the skills you have developed. Give value. Continue to do this and it will become like a ball of energy that keeps bringing you closer to your goal.

If you have the spirit of serving in mind, people will feel that. Focus on doing the things that will bring you results by developing your ability and serving others in the process. This will not only bring you the results you are looking for, but will also be much more fun and less stressful along the way.

How to Be Your Own Caretaker

What is well-being?

It is a state of complete coordination of both your mind and your body. It is that time in life when you become neither too happy with things nor too sad; everything is in proportion. If something bad has happened to you, you are able to put it into perspective and separate logic from emotions and make rational decisions. You do not feel peer pressure or the need to mould yourself to be accepted by everyone. That means you are contented with where you stand in life. Well-being also implies you know what you want in life and you keep pushing yourself towards it.

Sometimes, we all face a lot of difficulty in staying in this one state because there are a lot of forces outside of us that act in ways which shake our foundation. But once you have achieved well-being, your goal should become its enhancement.

What do I mean by enhanced well-being? I mean strengthening your foundation such that lesser and lesser external forces affect you without your permission. A state from where, bringing you down becomes difficult because you have now found ways to stand there in peace and tranquility.

Let's look at some ways through which our well-being can be enhanced -

Connectivity - you can learn the most from people around you. By connecting with new people every now and then you see how their lives have unfolded and all the kinds of difficulties and happy days they have seen. Such people are the best teachers for you if you want to be better at achieving tranquility both of mind and body.

Indulge in activities - by constantly exposing yourself to activities that nurture your mind you will keep yourself busy and learn a lot. By being active you can create positive effects for your brain. If some of your activities include physical exertion it is good for your body and will keep it healthy and in shape. One added advantage of these activities is that you meet a lot of new people.

Curiosity - it doesn't always kill the cat. Sometimes, in fact more often than not, curiosity is a good trait to have. It makes you question everything in life therefore not accepting anything on its face value. There will be a lot of in depth learning. Curiosity will help you de-centre yourself from notions given to you by the society and it will help you make decisions for yourself.

Be a learner - even after school and college get over, learning never stops. In fact, the actual learning starts after you leave college and start the real life. You have to always remain open to learning new things, be it a skill or a language or even about people and their lives. By being a learner you give yourself the opportunity to look at things in an innovate way at all times.

Be a giver - the enhancement of your well-being isn't just about your own growth and development but also about those around you. Growth is mutually beneficial because if you grow and contribute to those around you, they will contribute to your growth in return, in their own unique way.

Be kind to yourself - we often tend to be harsh on ourselves, give ourselves deadlines, be the perfect daughter, father, mother, wife, employee etc.. However in that rush we forget to be the perfect version of ourselves. It's OK if you miss out on a few things, its OK if you don't go out to meet your family & friends when you're not upto it. It's really OK to Love yourself first.

Make Yourself More Marketable With A Professional Development Plan

Whether you're searching for a job or happen to have one already, designing and implementing a professional development plan is one of the best things that you can do for your financial future. Efforts like these are guaranteed to make you more marketable and far less expendable in the business world. They can lead to higher pay, increase your job security and allow for greater promotion.

For job searchers, a professional or personal development plan is a great way to justify gaps in employment. You can use this program to show prospective employers that time away from the workplace was spent working on yourself and on increasing your overall value. During the weeks and months that span between your last job and the next, you can be actively building your skills.

Not only will your plan show employers that you are committed to self-improvement, but it shows traits such as motivation, organization and determination. More importantly, each form of training that you secure on your own limits the amount of money that companies must invest in you in order to bring you up to speed. From the moment that you start, you will be able to provide a new employer with undeniable returns.

Plans like these should definitely include programs pertaining to business communication. Whether written or verbal, your communication plays a major role in determining how well you represent the values and goals of the business in all of your interactions. With a proven record of training in this area, your marketability will soar.

When choosing training, look for options that provide certificates of completion or some other, tangible evidence of your participation. This way, as you meet the individual goals that are present in your plan, you can cross them off. You will also have the opportunity to share this evidence during interviews and other meetings that pertain to hiring decisions and internal promotions. Moreover, should companies have their own requirements pertaining to professional development, you will need this documentation to prove your accomplishments.

There are countless courses that can be pursued as part of these endeavors. In addition to training in business communications, there are Excel courses for those who want a better understanding of how to build and use spreadsheets, web design and many other class options pertaining to specific and popular forms of software. Targeting classes that have the greatest bearing on your individual career goals will help you get the best returns on your investments of money and time.

Full of "Brules": Our Lovely Brain-Washing Society

What are "Brules"?

Brules = BS rules

Today, there are many different kind of "brules" that the society has used to brain-wash us. Some common "brules" include:

  • University Degree is necessary
  • After you get a degree, you must go out and find a well-paying job or else you are screwed
  • Time is money (What?! This is also a brule? I will get to this very soon. Continue reading.)
  • The pursuit of money is inherently bad

This list is inexhaustible.

Let's reflect. Were you told by your parents and teachers to study hard and get an University degree? After that, were you pushed by them and the society to find a job, the higher the salary the better? Are you currently stuck in a job that you don't necessarily like at all? Are you pressured by all the bills coming in every month?

All of this happened because the society has asked us to follow this path repeatedly, generation after generation. Are you sure University degrees are necessary? If it is, how did Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Walt Disney, Bill Gates, Richard Branson... and so many famous college drop-outs come about? I must admit that these people are talented in one way or another. But, what about you? We all are talented in certain areas. The only difference between successful and unsuccessful people is their level of perseverance and resilience.

Achievement seems to be connected with action. Successful men and women keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don't quit. - Conrad Hilton
So don't be afraid to follow your own intuition and go and pursue your interest. University education is like a tool for you to do something. For example, if you want to start a business, University education can equip you with necessary skills and knowledge for you to get into this area. Please don't study University because the society says you must have a University degree in order to get a job in order to have a living in order to...

Let's move on to the next "brule". We all were taught since young that time is money so please don't waste time. Let me tell you, this is bullshit. Time is money because people are always spending their precious time working for money. Just like part-time jobs or any other normal jobs where you earn money based on the time you spend working. In this way, the more time you spend on your work, the more you earn. This is the "employee mindset". If you detach time from money, you are able to live a life which you don't need to rush for time, work for time and work for others. This happens when you are able to escape the rat race and generate passive income streams. Your money will be flowing in automatically and you can enjoy your life without the need to compete with time. This is totally possible today for anyone to achieve as you can make it as long as you have a laptop and an internet connection. There are many ways to bring in wealth without sacrificing time. What I would recommend is the Laptop Lifestyle. You can earn money while you are asleep or enjoying your life. So make sure you detach time from money in your dictionary! This is really important. Don't be fooled around by the society anymore.

In today's society, we have brought shame on the pursuit of money. Many people regard the pursuit of money as a bad attitude. This probably occurs because there are people making money at the expense of product quality or at the expense of other parties involved. But honestly, who don't want to earn money and get rich? There is nothing wrong in pursuing money at all as long as you earn money in a decent and legal way. What's wrong with earning money? The most important thing is that you do not sacrifice your product quality and customer welfare. With quality products and services, you will be able to earn much more money in the long run.

So, don't be limit by the "brules" and don't let the society brain-wash us anymore. There are many more mindsets that the society has embedded in us. Have an open mind and follow your intuition. Try to discover the rules that are confining you in life and make improvements to them that can lead you to a better life.

Let me end off with a quote from Steve Jobs,

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.
All my best to your success!

Goals Need to Be Checked Against Reality

We need to check our goals to make sure they line up with reality. Goals should not be easy to reach with little effort. Goals should require you to grow a little bit, stretch yourself and force you to hone your skills if you're going to accomplish them. What goal shouldn't do is to make you be something you can't be or make you into someone you can't be.

The typical example of this is that it's not realistic to expect a 50-year-old man who is 70 pounds overweight to be signed for a pro basketball team and make the team and starting next season. You can see all the things wrong with that can't you? No amount of visualizing or thinking good thoughts to attract that outcome will work.

Sure, 50-year-old men play basketball, but have you ever heard of one go from their couch one Spring to starting for the Pistons the following Fall?

The problem comes when we don't recognize other goals that are just like that. Take that same 50-year-old man. He doesn't walk regularly, much less run. Exercise is limited to trips to the bathroom and going upstairs and downstairs at his home. He's not going to run a marathon next week. He might walk one. Over several days. With lots of breaks. If he's lucky.

Do 50-year-old men run marathons? Absolutely. Did any of them do it a week after they decided they wanted to?

What about if that same man wants to start his own business? He's got no experience in anything besides his IT job, but he knows there's a lot of money to be made in Internet Marketing. He signs up for a few free email courses from gurus who all convince him that he can make six figures next month when he launches his first product.

Do people legitimately build online businesses making six figures? Even in a month? Sure they do. But how many have REALLY done it in 30 days from scratch with no experience going in or a plan?

How likely is he to actually do ANY of these things or the hundreds of other half-cocked plans people come up with because they have no idea if it's truly possible at all, much less in the time frame they want to do it?

Right. Not very. This is true for all of us. We can make all the plans we want, set all the goals we want and read them every morning and every night with conviction. But without researching what it takes to achieve that goal, you might as well be making a wish and throwing a penny in the wishing well. Reality trumps fantasy when it comes to goal setting every time.

Great goals start with great values Not all values will help us achieve our goals. Some are timeless. Visit http://tsv.Success-Maniacs.com/ for my free report called Timeless Success Values.
