Born to Be a Ten

Have you ever wondered what you think about who you are? So many of us have been taught that our entire self-worth is based on accomplishment and our value in life is due to the contributions we make to society. When we do well we are awesome; when that doesn't happen we are losers?

Is it any wonder an executive with a college education working in a high- rise building making a six- figure income feels like he is on top of the world and a homeless man who does not know where his next meal will come from is viewed by many as being worthless? Is our human value so tied into our accomplishments that when you fail to achieve you are considered a failure?

This mentality of "self-worth based on accomplishment". In the movie "Trading Places" with Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy Dan plays a rich Wall Street Investment Specialist working on wall street and enjoying the best money can offer. A nice place to live, nice clothes, great job and society friends. His self-esteem is centered around his job and work accomplishments. Eddie Murphy plays a broke street hustler who is out there every day trying to find his next patsy for one of his schemes.

Their roles are reversed, and Eddie becomes the Wall Street hotshot and has all the advantages Dan once enjoyed. Meanwhile Dan is reduced to be a street bum and when he tries to reach out to people in his past life for help he finds that once he has lost his position and status at work he is no longer welcome in their world.

The movie depicts how tied into our roles we have all be conditioned to. Parents may ask children questions like "how did you so on your test at school today or did you make the basketball team" and the answers for the child dictate acceptance for succeeding or rejection for failure. Parents are not trying to make their children feel bad; they are just monitoring actions and results. This conditions children to associate accomplishment with achievement.

What if I told you that you are successful not because of what you do but because you are. You are a person with unlimited potential and endless opportunities to advance your dreams. You should do great things in your life, but you don't have to do great things to be a great person. When you were first born you were "fearfully and wonderfully made" and this entitles you to the benefits of being alive in this world. Being a success is not what you do; it's who you are.

On this journey to success keep in mind that success is not really a journey or a destination. Success is more a state of being. Create within your mind that you are already successful because you are here. All the world gets to see is an extension of what that success means.

Learn From Your Successes to Build Self-Esteem

Self-awareness is the foundation of success in life. Learning from successes can boost your self-esteem and self-awareness because you can learn more about yourself and your strengths. Too often we get lost in the hyper-speed of today's society and the challenges that confront us at work and home to really remember that we have had successes in the past.

Everyone excels in at least one area (generally more than one area). When you understand self-awareness, this can help you to learn where your best skills lie and to do more activities that enable you to leverage these advanced skills more often.

Whenever you do something well, you feel a sense of accomplishment. Pride, and confidence surge in you because you could achieve something that ideally helped yourself and others. In many cases, you were the best person for the task and were more easily able to achieve it than other people would have. Therefore, other people will look up to you because you were able to complete the task and/or achieve the feat so quickly and easily as compared to others.

When you are having a difficult time or struggling with challenges, it is important to look back upon your successes and realize that you have the capability of doing great things and succeeding at whatever you are doing. Sometimes, life "throws us a curveball" that makes us uncomfortable and causes us to struggle a bit with tasks that we are not used to completing and have a hard time completing at a high level.

The key is that we must remember that especially during these difficult times, we have the capability to adapt and succeed. Build a library of those times when you've had successes, especially those tasks that others struggled and they called upon you to do them.

You can do this via journaling or some other method of documenting the successes because our memories can falter or be distorted after a period. Pay attention to the details so when the time comes you can assign credit where it is due. In my opinion, every success I have will be associated with another person or group who helped in the execution. This helps you build them up also.

Whether it was an issue with a computer or electronic device, an item at home that needed repairing, or just offering helpful advice to someone dealing with a situation you dealt with before, you could succeed where others couldn't or would have a harder time succeeding.

Reflecting on your past successes and realizing you have the capability to adapt and do many tasks well, you will realize that whatever present challenge you're facing can be overcome as well.

Reflecting and celebrating past successes is a great foundation for expanding your self-awareness and self-esteem but don't fall into the trap of spending your time focusing on the past. It is meant to be an inspiration not a crutch.

To be more successful, just focus on the task at hand, utilize the lessons you've learned from having past successes, and put the skills and effort in to overcome the present challenge.

By taking time to reflect and learn from your past successes, you can keep your self-esteem intact during times of great difficulty and be able to overcome virtually any challenge that comes your way.

Be mindful and intentional in all that you do today and tomorrow will be rich and rewarding.

Eliminating Procrastination Through the Tools Already in You

woman lying on sofa in rooftop
Oops - I did it again
It would seem, that with all our will power and need for accomplishment, we could take the ideas for action that we have and accomplish them. I have the power to stop others from performing flawlessly in a timely manner, but why do I stop myself from performance? Why would I stop myself from completing a task when it needs to be completed? This seems a bit counter intuitive, well at least I think so.

I mean, for those of us who procrastinate, we become our worst best enemies. I mean, think about it; I have a task to complete and all I have to do is accomplish it. There is no one standing in my way, but low-and-behold, the day goes by and I have not completed my task. I venture to bet that everyone of us has had these times of procrastination. And what do we get from it? Ill tell you what we get. Stress.

Don't you feel stressed out when you know you must accomplish a task, you push it off, you make excuses, you expend energy on everything else, but the task. And sometime, procrastination can even cost us money. How many people miss that April 15th deadline for Uncle Sam? Yes, that dreaded tax day. I even know people who are getting a refund and yet they fail to complete and submit their taxes in a timely fashion. But, nope; days and weeks go by and the taxes are not done.

Frankly, I don't see much value in procrastination, but all of us do it anyway. Hmmm. Do you remember Charlie Brown, ya, that block-head. He was good at procrastinating. As he is faced with his own loafing skills of procrastination he says, "If I start writing now... when I'm not really rested... it could upset my thinking which is not good at all... I'll get a fresh start tomorrow... and it's not due till Wednesday... so I'll... have all of Tuesday unless... something should happen... Why does this always happen... I should be outside playing... getting fresh air and sunshine... I work best under pressure and there'll be lots of pressure if I... wait till tomorrow... I should start writing now but if I... start writing now when I'm not really rested... it could upset my thinking... which is not good at all."

I can relate. So here I am writing an article about how to reduce procrastination and I am admitting to procrastination. Yes, we all have the thoughts and the ability to put off what we should do today until tomorrow. Maybe this is just hard wired into us and we should just go with it? Ya, that's my reasoning. But you know, that's not good enough, bah-humbug to that. Well, procrastination does really have a biological foundation.
This may just read like mumbo-jumbo. The blame the brain game, or the genetic game. Hey, I say if it works and makes me feel better, why not? Ah, why not? Because if I do that, I lose the sense of control. I need some control of my actions, so I can get things done and procrastination is not getting things done. But, let's take a quick look at some of the science of why I procrastinate and then maybe grab this genetic disposition by the hand and lead it away, so it serves our needs and not us serving it.
OK, here go, lets jump right in.

1. Procrastination affects some more than others. Some people are more predisposed to procrastinate than others. Omg, that does not sound too good, or maybe it does if we are looking for an excuse for our procrastination, but it sucks if we want to reduce our procrastination. So, whatever method or way that I try to reduce procrastination, I must get around this predisposition to procrastination; if after all, maybw I am one of those sorry people whose genes pour information into my brain to procrastinate. Let's laugh at those genes, heck I probably get my genes from K-mart anyway. Genetics, in this form are predispositions and not commands. With our frontal cortex and even a trained limbic system we can over-ride a predisposition. I will discuss this how in a bit. I don't think it's a clever idea to have scientific reason 1, and then a solution, scientific reason 2, and then a solution because we are systems, and it does not work that way.

2. Procrastination feels good. Until it doesn't. Us humans (and other species) have feel good chemicals that get released in our bodies and because these neurotransmitters; (who has not heard of serotonin and dopamine?) humans have this pain/pleasure mechanism. If an action creates pleasure, we tend to remember that pleasure and then return to it. When we feel pain, we tend to retract from it, so we do not feel it again. Ah, but here is the catch, sometimes the pleasure centers out weigh the pain centers and induce memories of the pleasure rather than of the pain. You can ask any overweight person who suffers pain and ill health because of being overweight and yet, bring out the cake.

3. The brains decision making process is a constantly a tug-of-war. Most of us wake up and then just want to go back to bed. Maybe we even hit the snooze several times. There is that struggle. I must go to work, but I want to stay home. And for most of us, the work wins. For those who stay home, the unemployment line is probably enough pain. Thus, there is a constant struggle in our brains to act or not act. In almost all decisions, in a fraction of a second the brain is working to have fun. Hmm. Have you seen cartoons or movies with the angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other? Yup, that is how the brain functions at times. Procrastination is much like that, we know we should do what we need too, but we have our mind chatter like good old Charlie Brown and at the days end, we have an emotional hangover.

4. Self-control. We all want it. But let's get down to the brass tacks. When we procrastinate we have a breakdown in our self-control. Or do we? Our self, our conscious self knows it should be behaving in a specific way, but our unconscious urges have us behave in a different way. And so, it seems we have no self-control, and in fact, we do lose our conscious self-control.

5. Now the good news. Scientifically and experimentally we can beat back the forces of procrastination. If we couldn't, I guess me writing this article would be a complete buffoonery act. So, the gist of this article, well I guess the whole of this article is that we can do something about procrastination. I feel trapped in my own promises! If you are interested, you can read more depth to the science of procrastination. But, I have learned, more information does not always bring about different actions. It is though, when one learns how to use information to bring about change; that is when the miracle happens.

Remember The Miracle Is In Your Power When Seeking Ways To Change Your Life (By James Nussbaumer)

It surely was emotionally mind boggling during those 8 long years I 'd spent in prison, often thinking that, I need a miracle from God right now. It was a tough, horrendous ordeal in all sense of the statement.

I 'd really set forth on my writing from that very first day when the prison doors slammed shut and locked behind me, which is why you are reading this right now.

I still see that my contracting with a mainstream publisher for my book series while in my eighth year, of imprisonment, is what convinced a higher court to look deeper into at my case.

Yes, that accomplishment convinced a Judge to grant me release 2 years early from my 10 year sentence over a foolish securities violation.

I have learned I can always go deep within myself and chart and create out objectives and goals for whatever the journey might be when there's nowhere else to turn.

I'll be honest, it seems all my life since childhood when faced with life challenges, I've mumbled under my breath that, I need a miracle from god right now.

You are a human being?

You likewise believe you are either male or woman?

You also have other roles you play in your life, like mom, daddy, brother, sister, staff member, company, manager, manager, in-law-- and the list,

Have you ever thought of yourself as a miracle, even when you're thinking, I need a miracle from god right now?

Of course, that is the miracle. Do you walk around all day and see yourself as a miracle worker?

You are a miracle. You are a miracle worker, if you choose to be, and you don't have to ask or state, I need a miracle from God right now.

A few years back prior to his passing, I had the satisfaction of visiting Wayne W. Dyer live at a conference in Miami.

He tossed back and forth the attributes of a miracle and all the other angles.

It was just one of many interesting discussions I've heard him speak on in the past, but this one instantly changed my life.

The words just appeared on my notepad I always carry with me and have handy in my hip pocket. I had a warm secure feeling while sitting there, alone, with no one I knew there to witness what I was feeling.

The conference ended and my inner Self was satisfied.

Back at the hotel I immediately picked up my copy of A Course in Miracles, opened it and landed on page 222, Lesson 124 of the ACIM workbook.

My eyes looked down at the title of the lesson that said, "Let me remember I am one with God."

The power of joined right-minded thoughts is the miracle.

The power of our thoughts is a wonder waiting on a decision to take place. The power is within you and you never need to state, I need a miracle from God right now.

The Course in Miracles teaches us that, "The miracle, and not magic, is always at your disposal."

It starts with our decision.

We have the power of wonders.

Wonders of the world and for a better life, means taking action.

It takes only an instant, perhaps a short minute, or a few more, to begin creating what you want, and then reflecting it into your external world.

It's how you may easily live your life.

That's all it takes to use the power of choice ways to change your life or to turn your life around.

The bottom line is:

Be that better world if you want to have a better life in a better world.

To the miracle in your daily life!

How To Have A Winning Mentality

Very few people have a winning mentality, yet the world is filled with lots of individuals that are so talented at different things but never achieve anything. Our body has limitations that our mind does not. We focus so much on what goes on from the neck down that we forget that it all starts in our mind.
Why most people never achieve their goals while two or three percent actually reach a high level of success? What stops them from accomplishment? And how can you have such a winner mindset?

The crucial point to become a person who is a winner in any course of action is to have a winning mentality. We all have the potential to achieve greatness. And yes, you can be that champion who excels by always pushing his boundaries of performance.

But if you are not mentally ready, you are never really physically prepared. The people who take this one action every single day are the ones who achieve their goals and dreams. And they do it more often than anybody else.

To get a winning mentality, it is not giving up at the first sign of a setback. You just got to try everything. And then, you need to try it again. That is the thing; you have to be motivated to at least try. I firmly believe that everyone on this planet has a gift. But it is your job to figure out what that gift is.

A Winning Mentality is Taking Action
Then it becomes your job to decide if you are going to act on it or not. There is nothing you cannot do. It is a matter of setting a focused goal because, without one, you will miss it every time. When you get a winning mentality, you have to pick a target.

And then get the steps along the way and realize that all the resources and all the experts are there at your disposal. But ultimately, it is only going to be tapped if that target is in your heart and soul.

Action is what gives you a winning mentality and changes your all life. But why most people do not take action? The answer is fear. So what do you have to do to get yourself to do it? You got to make sure that you push yourself through by making a decision. The point in which change happens is in the choices you make.

A Winning Mentality is Making Decisions
Every change that you want in your life comes from something simple: a decision. See, a real choice is not like when you say "I will try it and see" because that is not a decision. But rather when you cut off any possibility except the thing you are committed to. Such a winning mentality is like "That is it!"

A decision is the first step. It becomes a war within you because you give yourself no other choice than to do it. Commitment is what comes after you decided and it is to commit for the long term. No matter if it is hard or easy, you are doing it. So it takes you from this moment, and it carries you into the future, even when things are difficult.

When you have a winning mentality, you decide, commit, and resolve to see your dreams and goals through.

A Winning Mentality is Self-Discipline
You should not wait too long; you have to start to build that discipline right now to get what you want. Remember that there are seven billion other people on this planet trying to get this thing called success. Most people think that success is a straight line. They believe that they are going to get out of high-school, get a job, and everything is going to be okay.

It is not how it plays out. Instead, at the moment you decide to be successful, the line begins to get all squiggly. That is what success looks really like. Discipline comes with a winning mentality. It means taking the hard road, the uphill path to do what is right.

"Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment." - Jim Rohn
Most people stop at failure. But we all failed at things. To have a winning mentality is to continue to fail at stuff because it is the most powerful tool you can use. Of course, it all depends on how you use it. And many people are just satisfied with where they are.

A Winning Mentality is Believing
But there is always the next level. Your definition of greatness and what you want to achieve can be entirely different than someone else's. No one intends to be the first because people are afraid of the consequences that come with doing something first.

You cannot be listed as a failure if you are fighting for what you desire. There are two types of people: individuals with a winning mentality that are going to get what they want and the life they dream of, and the people that do not. In which category are you?

There are a lot of people out there that are always trying to improve themselves. They look for the one change that can make all the difference. Yes, they are searching for the one change that will make their dreams come true. But there is not one thing or neither ten things since there is no quick path and no shortcuts.

A Winning Mentality is Being a Warrior

Getting better is not a hack or a trick, or a 'one' change that you need to make. To get better and have a winning mentality is a campaign. It is an hourly, daily and weekly battle. And it is an incessant fight that does not stop against weakness, temptation, and laziness. It is a battle of discipline, hard work, and dedication.

It is waking up early and going to bed late and grinding out every second in between, and every single day. So you have just to start doing it. Take that first step and make it happen. Get out and get after it here and now.

Every one of us is a goals achiever, but very few people think about the obstacles that are there, and them overcoming these barriers. But to have a winning mentality and become an incredible achiever, you have to accept the fact that there will be walls. You also have to teach yourself that you can overcome them.

A Winning Mentality is Improving Oneself
So, you have to do that in your mind first, and then you back it up with a plan. And guess what, you will start to have a winning mentality and become a goal achiever instead of someone who just sets a goal.

If you do not like the way, your life, career or business is, change it. Or if you do not like your body, work on it. If you want to change anything in your life, you have to change first. The choice is yours; there is no right or wrong, it is only when you make the firm decision to take action that things are happening.

People often ask me how to stop the laziness or get rid of the procrastination. I tell them that it all begins in their mind. You might want to have a winning mentality or have a beautiful idea in your head, a vision you hold, but yet you do not know where to start.

Here and Now is a Winning Mentality
The questions flow in your mind: "Where do I start? When is the best time to begin?"

My answer is always the same as I tell people: "Here and now."

Maybe you want to get in a workout program, start a business, write a book, build a house or make a movie. Then you start right here, and when you begin, you have to start right now because the idea is not going to execute itself. The book will not write itself. The weights in the gym are not going to move unless you do.

You want a winning mentality, improve and get better, then stop looking for a shortcut. Rather find your discipline. Find it in your guts, passion, and drive. Finding it, you can. And then you will find your freedom.

The Impact Theory of a Winning Mentality
Here is a hard truth. People do not necessarily want you to succeed. And the bigger your dream, the more people are going to come out of the Woodward to try to stop you. So if you are striving for something important, if you are trying to make real change. Or if there is something in your life that you are absolutely hell-bent to create, you need to understand that you are going to be fighting against something.

Most people are going to be pushing back against you, and it is going to be your winning mentality and ability to hold true to your vision that is going to determine whether you can pull it off.

"You have enemies. Good. It means that you stood up for something at some point in your life." - Victor Hugo
The Winning Mentality and its Opposing Force
That is what people often miss. They somehow want to get through the journey unhurt and somehow hope that with the great change they want to make, others see their vision. You should understand that people will not fall in line behind you and follow you. It is not the way people work.

Having a winning mentality and a vision already puts you in an incredibly rare group of individuals. Being able to see something that other people cannot see, that is the role of a visionary and winner. That is literally interpreting a world that others do not even know exists.

You must understand that when you build something for yourself, you will always have an opposing force. Stay away from those who try to put down your ambitions. Small people always do that. But the really great ones, they make you believe that you too can become great.

A Final Conclusion
So, that is the kind of person you want to surround yourself with, people that believe in you. The kind of people that is willing to stand by you, even if they do not fully understand your dream, yet remain at your side.

You have to be willing to fight because if you are not prepared to do so, you might as well sit down now. Having a winning mentality is standing up and be ready for war. Winners are not people who never fail, but rather people who never quit. So, your level of success is determined by your level of discipline and perseverance. And all achievements begin with you.

Message From the Universe: Get Your Piece of the Pie, You Deserve It

"Behold, a new day... with rainbows, sunshine, and blue skies. New players, rebounds, and recoveries. Abundance, health, and harmony. Just like you've been picturing them, right?

Right?!

Please tell me you've been picturing them!!

It takes so little,
The Universe"

As easy it is to focus on the bad, you can focus on the good. Actually, it is easier because the good feelings from your positive thoughts leaves you with a better sense of accomplishment. You feel motivated, ready to tackle whatever comes your way. Your attitude is different and you are in a much better mood. Even if they were just positive thoughts crossing your mind, you know deep inside that you will make these thoughts a reality. Never dream small, focus on the big and do whatever it takes to reach your dreams. They may be scary but by understanding them better, they will not feel as overwhelming as you thought they would be. You want to built a fortune 500 company? What stops you from doing it? Is it too difficult? What do others who've made it happen have more than you? Is it courage? Determination? Willing to work hard? If you know you are capable of all that, there is no reason why you shouldn't succeed. There is enough abundance out there for everyone to have their share and enjoy their success. Forget about wealth being reserved to only a few people in this planet. You have all the rights to get a piece of that pie. So get the knife and help yourself. I am sure the pie taste amazing.

Are your thoughts aligned with your beliefs? Do you believe you deserve that piece of the pie? Do you feel like you have done everything in your power to make things happen the way you always wanted? Is there any reason why you should doubt yourself? Thoughts will become things ONLY if you have put action and belief into the equation. Thoughts only creates a path on the road but you need to pour asphalt and compress it to the ground to flatten the pavement for smooth cruising. Actions and beliefs are a must and without them, you only have dreams or ideas, and that's about it. The race of life happens with only ONE competitor, yourself. You are racing against yourself. Since we all have different dreams at different time in our lives, you need to focus on what you can do to make these dreams happen and forget about what others do. This is none of your business what others do. Put your energy in yourself, on your venture, on your goals and do not let others intervene with anything you do unless you seek their advice. Trust yourself that the decision you make are the right one. By doing so, you are incorporating belief in the potential of your accomplishments. Everything else will follow and you will reach your destination with a big smile with a lot more to do.

Why Inspiration Is The Breath of Life

The thought that inspiration is the breath of life is not new. In fact, it's embedded in our social consciousness as an artifact that dates back to the root of the word itself. The word holds a tremendous amount of power that has been diluted over time reflecting the transition of human consciousness from oneness to individuation.

When we think of the word(s) inspire/ inspiration, it often means we're looking for something outside of ourselves to give us that push, extra nudge, or spark of an idea that will lead to some sort of accomplishment. Sometimes the words are used in reference to another, as if some behavior you exhibit might be the motivating force for someone else.

This is where things get tricky. There is a tendency for people to want to use the words "(to) motivate" and "(to) inspire" interchangeably. The desired outcome is to change a behavior, either in oneself or in someone else. The critical difference is that motivation is an energy that comes from inside the self. In other words, you can become motivated to do something with the right energetic force, but you cannot motivate someone else because you are standing outside of his or her internal energetic system.

The Root of Inspiration

Inspiration, on the other hand, is all about moving energy in the direction of another being. In fact, the English word inspiration originated from 13th century Old French inspiracion "inhaling, breathing in" and Late Latin inspirare "blow into, breathe upon," as in- "in" + spirare (spirit) "to breathe."

This sense of the word is the underlying concept behind some of the metaphorical phrases we use involving "breath."

  • When we are stressed we need a breath of fresh air.
  • When we are frustrated, we don't hold/ waste our breath.
  • When we are excited, something or someone can take our breath away.
  • When you feel pressures, you might feel as though someone is breathing down your neck.
  • When you want to make something anew, you breathe new life into it.
  • If you want to keep something secret, you don't breath a word.

Inspiration is Spirit Inside
The connection between the word inspiration and the relationship to "breath" as the source of life and flow of energy can be found in several Biblical references as well. For instance, the Hebrew word for inspiration is "nish'mat", pronounced [nesh-aw-maw] and is used several times throughout the Old Testament with the first occurrence appearing in Genesis 2:7.

Hebrew:

waYiytzer y'hwäh élohiyim et-häädäm äfär min-häádãmähwaYiPach B'aPäyw nish'mat chaYiymway'hiy häädäm l'nefesh chaYhäh

English Translation:

And (Yähwé) God formed man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Many scholarly interpretations of this verse suggest the significance lies not just in the notion that God is the source of life, which is sustained through breath, but that the energy that comes through breath is the inspiration that gives us both a connection to and understanding of spirit.

The Shift in Meaning

A quick look at the Merriam-Webster dictionary demonstrates how the meaning of the word inspiration has shifted from a divine right (re: the breath of life) to something that is acquired. In fact, the dictionary even notes the sense "to breath into" is an archaic meaning.

The modern interpretation is:

  • A divine influence or action on a person believed to qualify him or her to receive and communicate sacred revelation;
  • The action or power of moving the intellect or emotions;
  • The act of influencing or suggesting opinions.

(Source: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/inspiration )
This shift in meaning is a reflection of a collective thought system that embraces separation and worthiness. The emphasis is no longer on the life force and spiritual energy of breath. Rather, it focuses on the specialness of receiving divine intervention, which is only available to individuals who have the "quality" to receive it.

An even more common meaning, though, is that of influence (force) on one another.

The Need to Re-Align with the Source of Life

The word inspiration holds the vibrational energy necessary to re-align human consciousness with the source of life and breath is the medium through which it can be attained. Those who have a daily meditation practice know that focusing on breath is the key to self-awareness and accessing the higher self.

Guided breathing is also a powerful tool for calming an anxious mind and bringing the physical body back to a state of homeostasis.

2 Quick Ways to Overcome Laziness and Procrastination

Laziness can sometimes lead to creativity when you are taking a break from a problem you cannot solve. Some research suggest that lazy people are the most creative. It is not hard to believe this when you see some of the inventions such as the television remote control. Instead of getting up to switch off the TV you just flip the channels. Laziness and procrastination can be positive sometimes to recharge and distress, but can also cause dreams that are not realized. For every major accomplishment there is a first step. It takes getting up and seating on a laptop to write a business plan, it sometimes takes discipline to fill up forms to get funding for your business or improve your CV for the next c-suite position. All of these are actions taken with an intention to accomplish a goal. When we are lazy and procrastinating we fail to act and rationalize about why the present is not a good time to act.

We give ourselves excuses and postpone action using our internal dialog, "the rain is too loud I can't call right now", "the computer is too slow to accomplish work", "I am too tired"... or "I will do it tomorrow still"... and so on. When you get lazy and procrastinate this can sometimes set you back in terms of goal achievement. The sad thing is you won't always know it because you cannot tell when your inability to update your CV, or to write a business plan and apply for funding has led you to a lost opportunity. This article shares 2 quick ways to overcome laziness:

1. Have future focus instead of present focus

When we are lazy and procrastinating we are driven by present focus - the pleasure of seating in a couch watching TV instead of exercising can sometimes overcome your good intentions to keep fit. Sleeping instead of starting the day early is much easier to do for most of us. Pain and pleasure drives the actions that we take - the pain of taking action and getting up versus the pleasure of seating in the couch and watching television. We might feel more pleasure in relaxing and putting out action and associate more pain to getting up or leaving the couch. In the present focus we might even forget what is good for us in the long term.

In order to discipline yourself and overcome laziness and procrastination, awareness in terms of how pleasure and pain influence your actions is important. In order to overcome laziness. You need to replace present pleasure that you experience in whatever it is that you are doing by the anticipated future pleasure you will gain from acting immediately. Runners do this very well. When going for a run most runners hardly think about the long road that they will face. Instead they think about the feeling of accomplishment that they will experience after running. Accomplishments allow us to experience feelings of satisfaction, fulfilment and joy knowing that we have taken action. To overcome laziness the focus should be on the expected pleasurable feelings that we will receive from accomplishing a task. Used well, the expected feelings of accomplishment can easily replace perceived present pleasure from not acting.

I doubt if anyone would be encouraged to overcome laziness and go to the gym if they thought of all the hard work they would have to do at gym and the muscle pain. Instead those who go to gym think about the rewards after gym such as being physically fit and having positive body image. Gym fanatics overlook what most people see as pleasure when they do not exercise and replace present pleasure with future anticipated gain i.e. being physically fit, muscular, weight loss and so on.

You might ask yourself how to do this from a practical point of view? Here is how - Let's say that you are seating in a couch lazy to exercise enjoying the pleasure of the moment. To get yourself encouraged to exercise begin picturing anticipated future pleasure from exercising. See yourself having completed your exercise - this can be running, going to the gym or doing a few exercises in your own home. Experience before hand how happy you will feel about yourself knowing you stuck to your plan and completed your exercise routine. Picture yourself in the future having positive body image and feeling healthier. Feel the intensity of this positive feelings in your heart. As you experience the positive feelings get up immediately, wear your gym clothes and exercise. You will find that you have more power overcoming laziness when you visualize positive future results like this.

2. Always act immediately

Most of the time, laziness and procrastination manifests itself as a result of the internal debate we have with ourselves prior to taking action. Often before pushing ourselves to get up from bed we ask ourselves questions, "should I get up now?", "Maybe I should sleep 10 minutes more", "I am going to run late maybe I should wake up?", "How about calling in sick?" Depending on the day, you either defeat your thoughts and get up or you get defeated and sleep until late.

To overcome laziness and procrastination it is best that you act immediately on whatever it is that you want to do before the internal debate starts. This will help you change the pattern that laziness and procrastination causes. So always and always act immediately when you need to do something without allowing yourself to have an internal debate.

Stop Trying To Avoid Failure

We hear the word and cringe at the thought of it. From the time we were kids, we've been exposed to the many aspects and importance of winning. And as we mature, our ambitions continue to grow from our visions of success and accomplishment.

Envisioning a victorious outcome will often provide the strength to move forward, even when it seems as though you're pushing a boulder uphill.

But what of failure? What happens to your outlook when you think, even for a moment, that you might not succeed? You probably feel just about the same as everyone else would; defeated, sad, worried, or even stressed perhaps. And when these feelings begin to swirl around on the inside, the ripple effects begin to take hold of your performance, and create something often referred to as "paralysis by analysis".

It's as if the act of failure, has become synonymous with being a failure. And this couldn't be further from the truth.

The next time you feel the nerves beginning to kick in, all from the thoughts that you might not succeed; (whether they be of the project you're about to undertake, the company you're about to start, or even the wedding vows your about to make), take a moment to reflect on this:

When a baby starts learning to walk, what happens? Do they just stand straight up and start strolling around the living room, like they've been doing it for years? Of course not. They take a step or two, then fall down. They get back up, take a step or two, then fall down. Each time they fall down, that particular moment was a failed attempt at walking. But does this make that baby a failure? Of course not!

With each fall, the baby's muscle memory gets better and better. And as they continue to try, over and over again, they learn how to stabilize the entire body, so that the falling down becomes less and less... until finally, voila! They're walking like a pro.

There's not a parent in existence who would watch their child learning to walk, and think to themselves, "this kid is a total failure". On the contrary, with each step and stumble, that proud Mom or Dad is thinking, "You've got this! C'mon, one more step!"... all the while, cheering them on.

So why in the world would we as mature adults, consider our steps and stumbles in life to be any different?

If you're overly concerned that you're going to fail at something, it's because you're equating it to actually being a failure. This is nothing more than a mindset; one that can be corrected at a moment's notice.

As you read this, consider that project you've been hesitant to start; that promotion you've been wanting, but were afraid you might fail at; or even the commitment you're hesitant to make, because you might let someone down.

Now, being completely realistic with yourself, envision the steps and stumbles you're going to make, as your "muscle memory" gets better and better. Failures are not only normal, but completely necessary, in order for you to learn how to stabilize on your road to success.

So remember; failure cannot be avoided, nor should it be. Failures are nothing more than brief moments in life that teach us how to accomplish what we've set out to do.

Today, while you're traveling the road to success, embrace the unexpected failures along the way. They're really nothing more than turn-by-turn directions, that will get you to where you want to go.

My Hands Make Light Work

Woman Smiling While Holding Gray Rod

Teamwork is the basis of success. Working as a team can be a great asset. We can accomplish the most difficult tasks when we work as a team. With the support of our team, we feel more empowered and the load looks lighter and a lot easier to manage. The reason we feel this way is that we are assigned only a part of the whole project, with each team member sharing the responsibility, and contributing towards achieving success. When we try to do a difficult task all by ourselves, it is possible that we may get frustrated, lose motivation, and may even fail to complete the task successfully.

A team working towards a common goal means we only have a part of the project to complete, keeping the motivation high, as we see other people in our team working together, and becoming a source of encouragement for us all. We should always remember that once we have an efficient and focused team, like a well oiled machine, we can accomplish some remarkable achievements, which may not be possible individually. The crowning moment comes with the celebration of our success as a team. We all win!

It is easier to choose a path that others have set. It is a sign of a winner, a real leader, to make his or her own path, and leave a trail for others to follow. To be yourself in a world that is trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment. It is time to face it! Society as a whole wants us to conform to their idea of who we should be, how we should dress, what car we should drive, what we should read, and even what we should eat. In other words, they say, "be like us"! "Conform to our standards". Everybody has a plan for you! Your friend, family, neighbors, and the authorities want you to follow their expectations. We are bombarded with advertising that is trying to direct us in a certain direction. The entertainment industry is doing the same in living color, and a lot of emotions. Not to mention politicians. They use their power to make laws to force us into their idea of society.

Everybody expects us to behave in a way that we "fit in". They don't leave much room for someone to do their own thing, or to believe differently than everybody else. It takes extreme courage to step out of the mold that society has formed for us. It takes a strong will to be different. In today's strained political climate, the word extremists has been used for people who just want to be different, and live differently, or just want to be left alone. Be NORMAL? Who wants to be normal? A little side story, the other day I made a comment in a post, saying, "I just don't fit in to be normal." The nice young lady responded, "Define normal". Here is my responds: "You had to ask didn't you. LOL I have been crazy for so long, not being part of the 9-5 crowd, my definition of freedom is quite different from most people, not to mention my political and religious views. You asked "define normal"? Well it is the opposite of what I just listed." I ask again, "who wants to be normal?" Have the courage and a strong will to be the opposite of "normal"! Be yourself!

It is quite common for us to encounter difficulties in our life. Life is full of challenges. Certain situations seem insurmountable, and we might be tempted to feel helpless, or even give up. There are some circumstances in our lives that are harder to handle than others. Try to put a different spin on your challenge or problem by viewing it from a positive perspective, rather than with a fearful attitude.

The Motivation Pill

Circumstances are a hell of a mentor. Testing you at the most vulnerable moments, trying to knock you out at the most fragile links. The crowd you are surrounded by most of the time is nothing but a horde of opportunists looking for that perfect imperfect moment when you're at the weakest and easy to step upon and go ahead. No one is here to make you succeed. All of them are looking for your use in their lives and how you can add value to their dreams and goals. No one except your parents is going to be glad when you achieve. You're an exceptional being in yourself. Ignore the naysayers, turn a deaf ear to those who preach like they know a lot. No one knows a damn thing and those who say they do, they are just trying to scare you. You have a great gift, the gift of a dream. You have a dream and now is the time to start working on it. Now, this very moment, guide each of your action towards the accomplishment of your dream. Those who mock you, try to make you feel inferior at your every step, are really scared of you. Scared for you have something they can never really achieve in their life. Something that is not easy for them to even think about it. They try to intimidate you by saying harsh words. Words that they say with a smile but in reality, they are just trying to weaken your roots like a parasite.

But what to do? Well, the fact is the whole of your life you're going to encounter such people who would do their best to make sure you fall. They are always hitting at your ladder of success trying to imbalance your dream and make you drop to the floor. They are looking for the opportunities to see you fail, to mock you, to laugh at you and shout at you. Don't let them send out any negative vibes or hurl any downers in the direction of your success. Success is a great thing, those who have achieved it, know how it tastes. Don't let anyone direct the story of your life. Success is contagious, but it comes to those who believe in themselves. Be humble, be silent but not when a blow is thrown at your self-respect. People may call it your wrong attitude, but you know that who you really are. Believing is doing. Don't listen to failures who rely on meagre dreams. Dream big, if you can dream it you can achieve it.

Want to know how to do it? Let me tell you, that you suck, you are not worth a penny. But can you let me drive the boat of your life? NO! Not me not your friends, not your well-wishers, no one shall have the right to pull you down. Stand guard at the gates of your dreams, make it strong like an impregnable fort. Make your mind a safe, the password to which only you know. Let them say what they think is right. Remember, being right is a myth, no one can ever be completely right about anything. If they say they are, just grin and say yeah sure. Remember, no words, no thoughts, no power in the universe can break you down unless you let it. Want friends? Make books your friends. Need someone expert to guide you? Walk to the mirror and you'll find the perfect guide who can help you get out of literally anything. All that you need, all the forces that will guide you in achieving your dream are right within you. Summon the universe, call upon the forces with complete dedication and child-like faith to work for you, in the direction of your dreams. And believe me, they will. But the requisite is you have to believe, you have to trust, like a child. Have you ever seen a child? Do you ever see them doubt that they can't walk? They try to walk but fall. Do they give up? HELL NO!!! So why do you give up? Be like a mirror, no amount of dust can make mirror leave its lustre, its ability to reflect. Be bold, be brave and be confident. Have faith, you are destined to do great, but to be great you have to start acting like you really are great. Take charge of your life and believe me, your life is going to be the way it should be. Tell yourself, "I am the greatest."

What If This Is All There Is?

Image result for searching within

In Search Of Answers

When a new disciple came to the Master, he was subjected to the following examination:

"Do you know the one person who will never abandon you in the whole of your lifetime?"

"Who is it?" "You."

"And do you know the answer to every question you may have?"

"What is it?" "You."

"And can you guess the solution to every one of your problems?"

"I give up." "You."

Anthony de Mello's delightful parable highlights the growing tension to look for answers outside ourselves.

In Zen Buddhism, it is said every question contains its own answer.

It was the American essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson who declared: "What lies behind us, and what lies before us, are tiny matters compared to what lies within us."

Many search for answers outside themselves to make sense of their life. Some give up, while many are disheartened since the solutions never arrive in the form they hoped for.

If something within you seeks change, it will only come from inward - not from an external source.

"Many people confuse or conflate 'purpose' with 'meaning' in life. There's a very important distinction. Meaning in life asks "Why am I here?" "Purpose in life is concerned with what we most deeply value, and purposeful living is concerned with whether we're living for what matters most," affirms author Victor J Strecher in: Life on Purpose: How Living for What Matters Most Changes Everything.

We want some form of validation we are living a purposeful life. Yet the irony is, nobody can grant us that because our lives are independent in relation to our experience of it. Others can only share wisdom relative to their experience.

If this message resonates with you, your personal evolution is calling you to expand, not to contract.

You needn't know the details, yet you recognise you are dissatisfied with your current conditions.

I call it leading with love because life answers the call of your soul when you go in search of it.

I have often said, life doesn't know what it will become until you step into it. Until you show up with purpose and seize opportunities.

We want to live a meaningful life instead of allowing external forces to control us.

If you consider life from what is missing, your mind looks for answers based on the form of the question.

Yet, if you ask: "How can I live my fullest potential and enjoy the process?" you will attract conditions in alignment with that very question.

"Counterintuitive as it sounds, taking on more of the 'right' things can actually increase the sense of meaning and accomplishment, even if your job does not specifically require it," states author Jonathan Fields in How to Live a Good Life.

Separating The Wheat From The Chaff

Author Neale Donald Walsch reminds us we are stuck between a rock and a hard place: "You are afraid to die, and you're afraid to live. What a way to exist."

So how can you find peace of mind within your circumstances?

Pursue that which resonates with your highest values. Life is full of ups and downs and you will make many mistakes along the way. Yet, those mistakes are pivotal in drawing you closer to what is significant.

Rather than dwell on the mistakes, see it as separating the wheat from the chaff.

From chaos emerges order.

What is important to you ought to be pursued by letting go of minor concerns. Life is full of contrasts to help you make conscious choices.

Contrast exists in the subtlest details. For instance, an unpleasant thought is distinguished by a positive one, and conflict is contrasted by kindness.

It involves choosing your focus of attention to find meaning through your questions.

Similarly, people are disillusioned that happiness is not a constant state. Here's an enlightened perspective. You can be happy, yet experience struggle and still turn your attention to gratitude by shifting from negativity to enthusiasm.

We're not talking about false optimism or Pollyanna syndrome. However, recognising the dualistic nature of life and aligning your awareness with your highest values.

Author and Jungian psychotherapist James Hollis states in What Matters Most: Living a More Considered Life: "Healing, satisfaction, and meaning only come when we identify what feeds our soul, and find also the courage and the where-withal to make it happen."

Your point of reference determines the meaning in your circumstances. It is why altruistic people tie their good deeds to service and the meaning contained within it.

Conversely, those who align with darkness, act on impulses and unconscious desires. They are conditioned by forces not of their choosing.

Pay Attention to Your Personal Evolution

You can stop struggling any moment rather than trying to fill the void within.

Accept life's circumstances are always serving your personal development.

There is no place to reach, other than paying attention to your personal evolution.

Assuredly, searching for purpose and meaning outside you is analogous to using your hands to carry water, instead of a bucket. In gathering water from a stream being careful not to spill it, you are left empty-handed.

So it is with life.

Holding on to what you desire most causes it to vanish because of the anxiety devoted to it.

The great American mythologist Joseph Campbell said: "People say that what we're all seeking is a meaning for life. I don't think that's what we're really seeking. I think what we're seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonance within our own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive. That's what it's all finally about."

Avoid looking for answers to empty questions, but consider what is already complete in your life. Use that as the foundation to what you wish to realise.

Nothing outside you will bring about what is contained within.

It was the imminent Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung who said: "Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes."

This sentiment is echoed by Anthony de Mello's fable of the Master who counsels his new disciple, noting that everything you desire will arise by looking within.

Verbs Are Important - Find the Right One and Find Time!

Verbs are important! Who's the last person that uttered that phrase to you? I'm guessing it may have been a long-ago teacher, extolling the virtues of action verbs and encouraging you to make your writing more vivid and engaging.

Other than that late-elementary-school moment, I bet it's not a subject that has come up again, unless you write for a living. But I'm here to tell you that, when it comes to finding time, the words that we use are very important. And no words are more important than the verbs that we choose.

They shape our perspective and have a profound effect on our energy. So, it makes sense that choosing words (and especially verbs) consciously and wisely is an excellent way to empower ourselves.

As an example, I encourage you to think about your To-Do List. Have you considered that the way you describe the items on your list have an impact? It's not just the task itself, but the words you use to frame it that will shape how you feel about it - and how likely you are to follow through on it.

There are lots of ways to make your task lists more useful to you. For example, in the past, we've written quite a bit about chunking tasks down to make them more doable - and this is very important. But there's more you can do to help yourself!

Here's an example of the difference that a verb or two can make when you're working with your To-Do List:

Old, Vague, Passive Phrasing
Translation to Active, Specific, More Detailed Wording

Work on Special Report
Complete outline of special report and schedule next steps to move it into production.

Think about blog post ideas
Draft and schedule 5 new blog posts, including brief reference notes and Evernote links.

Discuss future plans with team
Meet with team. Produce work plan and specific task schedule for the next 3-months.

Verbs are Important!

So, notice how I've changed some key expressions, below:

Old Key Phrases
New Action Verbs to Increase Specificity and Follow-Through

Work on
Complete and schedule

Think about
Draft and schedule

Discuss
Meet and produce

The new verbs are much more specific and action-oriented.

And, importantly, they often point to the next step n the process (e.g. "Complete and schedule") When you finish the task at hand, you'll be adding the next step or steps to your To Do List and/or calendar.

This is an excellent way to keep things moving. Even as you think about what verbs to use in your To-Do List you are significantly changing the way that you look at your tasks. It's a shift in consciousness that brings with it greater efficiency and effectiveness.

And the final step, whenever you complete an item on your To-Do List is to always, always, always validate yourself for your accomplishment! There aren't many things you can do for yourself that will be more energizing.

Not only that, but your follow-through builds confidence and self-trust, meaning that you'll move ahead all the more powerfully and effectively.

To your time success...

A Simple Formula To Get Unstuck!

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by how much you have to do? Have you decided to procrastinate because you are at a loss of where to start? Have you ever been advised to map out how to reach your destination based on your why? Except you don't know what your why is? Have you ever been frustrated because you read or hear how well your colleagues are doing? You're happy for them but deep down you really care how you are doing.

If you are feeling overwhelmed with the amount you have to do, may I suggest this simple formula to get unstuck? Each day do three things:

1. Do one thing you really dislike doing.

2. Do one thing that you absolute love doing.

3. Do one thing that has a time limit attached to it.

This formula helps you feel that you're moving forward and gives you a sense of accomplishment. Pick the thing you dislike doing the most and do it first thing in the morning. You'll experience a wonderful sense of achievement when it's done. Next work on something that needs to get done within a certain time frame.

What do you need to do that has a time limit attached to it? Put intense focus on it. You'll be amazed at how intense focus gets it done faster. Don't believe me?. Have you ever crammed for exams? It's the same skill. See, you're already good at this.

Bravo! You're on a roll.

Consider this. What do you think happens when you spend time doing something you love? It revitalizes you! Doesn't it? It fills up your cup! It validates that you are taking care of yourself. Right? It also may get rid of resentment of looking after the needs of others.

What do you love to do? Are you a master at designing? Then make sure you design every day. I love reading and writing. When I fit it into my daily routine I feel energized.

This formula is simple. Try it! You've got nothing to lose. It's a great way to get 'unstuck'. Pat yourself on the back. Tell yourself that you are one step closer to reaching your goals. The number of things that you've put off will gradually decrease. You will feel energized because you have made time for yourself. You are keeping your commitments.

Do one thing at a time and eventually you will see the light at the end of the tunnel. How does that make you feel? Amazing? Guess what - you are!

10 Power Questions To Get You Motivated

Woman Wearing White Top Holding Smartphone and Tablet

There are times in life when we need to motivate ourselves. We often have big ambitions we want to achieve. Sometimes, however, the motivation and clarity we need evade us, and the limited timeframes we have mean we need to get busy when we simply lack the zest to do so.

The following are a set of simple questions we can ask ourselves to begin to create the direction, the clarity and above all the motivation for ourselves to act:

1. What is the highest vision for my career, my life and myself?

This is really a reminder question for us. A key element of a balanced life is to have a clear vision of who you want to be and where you want to take your career and your life. This question is an opportunity for you to create that vision (preferably on paper), or if you already have it, to remind yourself of it.

2. What's the bigger picture here?

This question follows on from the first. When you have your vision, your subconscious mind will start to think creatively about how you can begin to make that vision happen. What's the bigger picture here, allows you to keep your thinking at a higher level, rather than bringing it down to the detail of life too quickly.

3. What are the key activities I need to be engaged in to get me to where I want to be?

This is a great all-encompassing question that takes you down a level in terms of your thinking. The focus of this question is the key activities. These are the 20% activities that will give you 80% of your results (according to the Pareto Principle). Again, this keeps your thinking at a level that allows you to focus on just those things that will get you to your outcome in the best way possible. You are not down at the micro or detail level yet. A good way to approach this is to come up with a list of just 2-4 key activities. These will become your projects from which your key tasks will flow.

4. How can I leverage my time, energy and money?

Leverage means investing a small amount of your resources in such a way that you get results that are many, many times greater than that investment. It could be, for example, that you invest a given amount of your time, energy and money to acquire the time, energy and money of many others. This is a form of leverage that is used to very powerful effect, for example, in the business world, and is how many businesses grow from sole-entrepreneurship to global status. Therefore asking yourself this key question constantly, permits you to engage fully in those activities that will give you the greatest return on your time, energy and money.

5. Do I need outside help?

This question flows on logically from the previous. It opens up your thinking, and allows you to consider the fact that others may be able to help you in your quest. This question prevents you from getting caught up in believing that you have to do everything yourself. Often when we are in this mode we can easily become overwhelmed, and this can sabotage our results. It is therefore useful to be asking yourself this question constantly so that external resources regularly show up for you.

6. What is stopping me from moving forward?

Sometimes we don't consider this question, and simply try to achieve our aspirations in life. By considering what may be stopping you, you are giving yourself the chance to acknowledge what is going on for you at a deeper level. This can reveal blockages that go way back, that may even have begun in childhood and could still be affecting you today. By using key techniques such as Energy Therapy to clear psychological and emotional barriers, you can begin to move forward and work more effectively towards your outcomes.

7. Given who I am, where I am in life, who I want to be and where I want to be in life, how can I use the time I have to the greatest effect?

This question may be detailed, but it acknowledges that you may have a limited amount of time in which to act, and therefore recognises that you need to use that time wisely. It also acknowledges who you are and where you are in your life right now whilst recognising that you have aspirations to improve. This is a powerful question that encourages you to look beyond those activities that may seem urgent but may not at this moment in time be in the best interests of your overall vision.

8. What can I do?

The is another all-encompassing question that begins to bring your thinking down to the task level whilst allowing your subconscious to consider all the options open to you. It also focuses your mind on what you can do rather than what you feel you can't.

9. How can I get started?

Getting started is one of the most difficult parts of any project or vision accomplishment. Asking yourself how you can get started brings your focus back to the current moment, and allows you to decide what your first step is going to be. This point alone can open up numerous doors in your mind, and can begin to make what may have seemed overwhelming or impossible, possible.

10. How can I work smarter?

Once we've started on our journey towards our vision, we can often get caught up in the detail of the work, and risk losing both our focus and direction. The upshot is that we can become derailed and distracted, and the effectiveness of our work can suffer. Asking yourself at every stage of your journey How can I work smarter will help you to find better, more useful and more intelligent ways of achieving your aims.
