Why Do We Deprive Ourselves By Trying To Race To The Finish Line?

It's the harsh realization, but unless your in an actual race, it's not your job to race to the finish line. Life is short enough without all of society trying to quickly get through the next step before we've even finished the current step. It's so very important in this life to enjoy everything before you with joy and gratitude while paying attention to the journey along the way. It's in the journey of life that we receive our blessings, learn our lessons and grow as a person, but most are so busy taking that next step, that we tend to miss those important milestones that shape our lives.

For Type A personalities such as myself, this is such a hard lesson. By continuously focusing on doing what's right and attaining the goal, most times you miss out on all of the beauty right in front of you. More importantly, in life there are lessons to be learned and if you are continuously looking for the finish line, those lessons get away from you. But rest assured, they will most certainly come back to bite you. They always do, so take the time to smell the roses and enjoy the journey, however difficult a journey it may be. Truly, it's your journey to have and living in the now allows you to appreciate, recognize, process, learn and grow. Don't we all deserve that much?

Talk to the mother who couldn't wait for her baby to walk for the shear convenience of it, and then ask her how she feels after her baby no longer wants to be held. It's only when that child is now walking that she realizes she missed reveling in the moment of that very last time her baby wanted to be held close to her. It's a sad realization for her that she wanted to rush the process and she'll never be able to get that moment back.

Remember to take the time in this moment to look at all of the beauty around you. In chaotic, confusing or even sad times in your life, just take the time to sit in the current moment looking at all of the blessings in your life. Easier said than done, yes, but remember that at the end of the day, tomorrow is not promised. All you have is today and this moment. And although things may seem sometimes less than ideal and you may even have to look harder than usual at times, your blessings are always there, right in front of you.

I share this with you because writing is how I heal me, and I just recently forgot the lesson of enjoying the journey yet again. Like many, I fall down often, but eventually I get back up again and if I can help one person through my own experience, I'm being called to do just that. So please also share this with anyone you feel could use this gentle reminder of the important things in life.

Love and light to you! Enjoy the truly important things and your many blessings during this holiday season!

Dealing With Reality

woman sitting on rocky mountain during daytime

We all want to win, but we all need to train for it. That is reality. Without real, hard earned understanding, we just hack at life and cannot live efficiently. When we take the time to learn the in, out and everything in life, we get better results. It is just like when there is a difference between flying to the top of a mountain in a helicopter, plane or air vessel and genuinely climbing a mountain.

When I think about the genuine nature of reality, genuine winners genuinely do not try to cheat. I use the words "try to cheat", because ultimately the very concept of cheating is unrealistic, and ultimately harder than if the honest path were taken to the same goals. Honest "overnight greatness and success" is years of visualization, training and understanding all facets of what is being done. If anyone says otherwise, they are cheating at a very deep level, not only themselves, but the people they are telling that big lie to. It is almost like the concept of the payday loan saying "get three months pay now" without the full disclosure of "get three months pay now, but pay three years pay worth of interest on it" at the very least! So, get this: Cheating is the big fantasy trip, dealing with reality fully straight is the genuinely winning trip anyway. If you travel the real road, you will achieve your genuine goal. Fake it genuinely and you will not make it.

Being real is always worth it, then is it not? A life based on lying and cheating at deep levels always costs more anyway ultimately. Real is the most direct path there is to any goal. It is the genuine journey of the hero, anyway. Reality will deal with you on this level: If you are genuinely willing to take the honest path, reality will rise up to meet you as you meet that challenge. When I say willing as a word, I mean wanting your goal and working your goal so fully and so consistently, with perseverance, that nothing will break you from going for it.

So, in the end, every limitation disengaged and you have fully evolved past it all, were you real or were you a cheater? only your heart and reality can answer that itself within yourself when you face yourself. Think about it. Only you can answer that question genuinely for yourself when you are evolved enough, nobody else can.

3 Self Help Principles to Effectively Handle Anyone

women's yellow and black sleeveless top

Have you ever found yourself in a situation or predicament where you just can't seem to get along with another person, or merely communicate in such a way for any sole reason at all? Whether it being achieving a certain desire or providing potentially beneficial advice that the selected other can't seem to understand. Feeling like you have tried everything? Fear not-The purpose of this post has you an old, yet very simple but seemingly forgotten self-help principles to aid your irrefutable frustration regarding such a common issue.

There are times in life where we find ourselves bewildered at our abilities to deal with other people, sometimes you're unsure whether it's you, them or the weather (for many reasons) nor come to terms with the complexity of exactly what is making such a task seem impossible.

Listed below are 3, easily digestible principles to keep in mind for effectively handling anyone; that when learnt and practised, will seem effortless. Enjoy.

Self-Help Principle 1: Never critique, complain or castigate.

Let's begin with a short parable. A man with an infamous reputation is often a feared criminal, in this sense, he is considered evil by his wrongdoing and acts of injustice. It is this injustice that society and its conventional values view this person contrary to the norm.

On a particular night in London, dozens of police officers were heard scrambling in and around Oxford Circus tube station as gunshots lit up the night. Screams and despair spread as the night grew older, rumour has it that one of London's most wanted was spotted inside and once noticed, took siege of human lives as form of leverage. Thousands of people listened and waited close behind the human blockade of officers, nothing like it had ever been seen before on the tracks of London. When this man was captured, Captain S. Montgomery stated that the man was unknowingly to the public, an enemy of the state previously turned rogue for reasons undisclosed, "He will disregard all consequences of behaviour," said the Captain, "and will kill in the blink of an eye."

The question we must ruminate is, how did this mysterious man regard himself? We know, because it is only until after finding in the residence of this man evidence that may be mutually exclusive with these intentions. a letter labelled, "To my younger self." And, as it read: "Beneath this vessel was a heart of gold, one that too many, times left cold."

Not too long before this, this man was going about his morning to surprise his girlfriend out-of-town near West Sussex. After he had arrived and noticed another male in the bed. Without saying a word, he leaped through the window and drew his gun, the gun shot and the air shattered. The bullet tore through space and silence fell upon him in its wake. He spoke but his words were lost in the quiet. That was the killer who said "Beneath this vessel was a heart of gold, one that too many, times left cold." The man was sentenced to death. When he was upon his last few hours, do you think he said, "This is what I get for killing people?" No, he said "This is what I get for doing what any man would do."

The point of this story is exactly this: This man did not blame himself for anything. Would you say that is an unusual thought process for criminals? I think not, now ponder this for a minute and ask yourself, if these men and women behind bars do not blame themselves for acts of such sin, what about the people who you and I have come in contact with? People do not criticise themselves, not for anything, no matter the severity or margin that they may be so very wrong by.

B.F Skinner, a world-famous psychologist had proved with his experiments that animals respond and learn much more efficiently when being rewarded with good behaviour and retain that information rather than castigated for poor behaviour. Further studies also proved that the same theory indeed applies to humans. In self-help we must be self-aware and acknowledge that the person we feel the need to correct or critique will probably justify himself/herself for what ever the reason may be. Perhaps even critique us in return?

Do you know of someone who you aspire to change or improve? perhaps a partner, friend, colleague etc. Why not begin with the man in the mirror? This is much, much more profitable and long-term efficient, and is also the pinnacle of self-help improvisation. Remember that before trying to handle others, that you are dealing with creatures of emotion, master this and things will fall in just the right places.

Self-Help Principle 2: Show a little appreciation.

There are roughly eight wants in life that we truly desire, I will label these; the eight things we desire most. We will be elaborating on solely one of these wants in this principle. The principle analysed and laid out is "The desire of importance." If you're interested in the other seven then you can head here.

Majority of these wants are more or less satisfied throughout our journeys, although there is one longing, deep, heart-wrenching desire that is satisfied rarely. I think you guessed it, the desire of importance. Who doesn't like a compliment? One of the most, if not the most sought after craving in life is the gratification of appreciation, hence the word "craving" not desire, but for appreciation and not importance. The person that can acknowledge this is all well, good and possibly on their way. However, to grasp this information and strictly apply it whenever you get the chance, this person will hold people in the palms of their hands.

The desire of importance has been around for centuries, this desire even stems off the infamous quote I'm sure you've heard "We buy things we don't like, to impress people we don't even know, with money we don't even have." It is why the rich build the biggest houses that you and I both know they can't make use of, it is why you feel the need to wear the latest fashion styles, it is why you want to drive the coolest car, this desire even impacts the way you talk about your brilliant partner or children. Some even fall victim into partaking in criminal activities, joining a gang or going as far as your imagination serves you, why? The answer is merely ego, the craving for appreciation, the desire of importance.

An easy way to begin: Bring to the table genuine enthusiasm among your people, appreciation and encouragement to others for small things, lead to a large impact. Positive reinforcement is actually critically important at times but be careful not to flatter. Flattery and appreciation are two very different things, the difference is 'sincerity'. One comes from the 'heart' and the other from the mouth. One is sincere and the other has an ulterior motive.

Again - the difference is 'sincerity'.

One comes from the 'heart' and the other from the mouth. One is sincere and the other has an ulterior motive.

What do average people do? The exact opposite.

If one does not approve or fancy something, they will scold their minions, partners and so on and so forth; if they happen to fancy or approve of it, most of the time they say nothing. Let us stop thinking of ourselves, our accomplishments and our desires. Let's attempt to analyse the person we wish to interact with and try to acknowledge their traits, disregard the flattery and acquire some genuine, real appreciation. Do this often and the people on the receiving end will hold your words tight, for longer than you can remember their faces.

Self-Help Principle 3: Give the person an incentive.

Let us begin with a bite size parable by D. Carnegie. A man is in charge of how he spends his time, this man enjoys fishing as his selected hobby and often spent the summertime in Maine. "I Personally am fond of strawberries and cream," said D. Carnegie, "but I have began to notice, fish prefer worms." This brilliant man did not think about what he wanted whilst fishing, he thought about what the fish wanted. So why not use this perfect little allegory and apply it when fishing for people?

Why be futile and converse about our wants? We are interested in what we want and others are interested in what they want, you may seldom stumble upon the occasion where others are also interested in your wants as you share a common goal or desire. But the rest of us are like you, only invested in what we want. Do you see where this is heading? The only way to strike influence and be able to handle somebody in these occasions is to converse about their wants, their desires, and you know what else? You have to show them how to get it.

Visualise yourself in a future situation where you are, the one attempting to get somebody to do something or change something. For example; You want your child to stay in and refrain from going out as they have an exam to attend the next morning, don't stand there and lecture them talking about what you want, we all know the answer and reasoning behind your want; but instead show them how heading out may impact the outcome of their grade scores and achieving that future opportunity.

Another parable to provide insight is; Mr Ralph Emerson and his son were trying to get their calf into the barn, however they inevitably made the common mistake and were only thinking about what they wanted. Can you guess what the calf was thinking about? If you've caught on you would assume (and you're correct) the calf is thinking only of what he wants, so the calf had centred his weight and refused to move. A bystander, the housemaid had been observing the entire situation, unbeknown to Ralph and his son, she had a broad perception of her surroundings, she thought of what the calf wanted; so she placed her maternal finger inside the calf's mouth and let the calf suck on her finger as she patiently guided him into the barn.

Tomorrow you may find yourself in a situation where you want to persuade somebody to do something. Before any form of communication, stop and ask yourself the question: "How can I make this person want to do this?" This question will not only stop absolute inefficiency and possibly embarrassing conversations ending with futile chatter of your desires, but give the person an incentive to do something. He who is capable of doing this, has the universe with him.

To Succeed You Need a Compelling Reason Why! (By Anne O'Dwyer)

woman using dumbbells

Why is it that so many new resolutions fail after a few weeks or months? Have you ever started a project full of enthusiasm only later to lose interest and abandon it. Do you always finish a book? Have you learnt that language you started, it seemed a great idea last summer! Did you keep up your gym membership for more than 6 months and did you use it regularly? How about your plan to lose weight, did you lose more that 2 pounds and keep the weight off?

Why do we start a new venture full of enthusiasm, and at the first few hurdles lose interest? The ANSWER is we need a compelling "reason why"! If you have a really important reason to continue you are likely to do so. Something really important that will keep you on track despite the hurdles, brick walls, or alternative distractions. You must continually visualize the final picture and think how important it will be to achieve it. Enjoy the feelings and satisfaction of the end result. This must happen daily or even hourly, really "see" how it will benefit you.

It is this that will drive you to success, you will be enlisting the help of your subconscious mind; which in fact is your willing servant waiting to help you achieve. However if you don't give it clear instructions about your desire it cannot help you. If sometimes you are positive and sometimes doubting how does it know what you aim is? There is no need to rely on will-power when you could have all the assistance you need. Just be single-minded about your end result. Your journey may change direction a little if you hit "road blocks" but concentrate on the end result to reach it like a laser beam.

For example it's not so much you want to lose 10 pounds or 3 stone but why do you want to lose weight, what difference will it make to your life, how will you feel, what great advantages will it give you? How will it affect relationships or in what fantastic ways will you gain.

When I was left with 3 children to bring up I used this method. I needed a teaching job to give me school holidays, I love children so it seemed the obvious solution but I didn't have an exam to my name, except in nursing. I set out to achieve my goal and in a few years was the proud owner of a teaching certificate. All this despite it meant a trip of 70 miles a day, and I didn't drive at the time! That is another story, but it is an example of what you can do if your desire is great enough.

I have since moved on to other things now the youngsters have flown the nest. I have learnt basic computer skills and set up a small internet business. So if you are doubting your ability to achieve your dreams, take heed, most things are possible if the desire is compelling enough.

If working at home with an internet business is your dream, affiliate marketing is the simplest starting-point online. Begin with the guidance of a coach and mentor with a proven track record. Someone who provides excellent products and great training in marketing. Believe in yourself and start earning commissions whilst you are learning the skill necessary.

Dabble! You Have To Start Somewhere (By Sarah Schwab)

Close-up of Beer Bottles on Wood

"If you hear a voice within you say 'you cannot paint,' then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced." - Vincent Van Gogh

Content can take many forms. Of course it can be written, but now it can also be on video, podcasts, teleclasses, webinars, blabs, periscopes, the list goes on and on.

New platforms and new ways of creating content can be intimidating.

Saying "I can't... " is a surefire way to guarantee that you won't create something, that you won't grow, that you won't make a difference.

Even Van Gogh wasn't born being a professional painter. He had to start somewhere.

Dabble!

As adults, we often stop ourselves from trying new things because we think we won't be good at them immediately. We have high expectations right from the beginning. And that often means we never give ourselves the chance to try and to learn and to improve.

To dabble in something has a different feeling.

When we dabble, we lower our expectations. We give ourselves some space to just give it a shot.

Painting Bars

There is a great bar in Milwaukee that serves up canvases with their drinks. (They do sessions led by artists, and other cool things too).

One night, I was there with my husband during "Gallery Night." It was a public event in the area, so lots of people were out and about checking out places in the neighborhood. A couple of guys walked into this bar and ordered a beer.

One of them looked skeptically at the people who were painting, including me, and asked what was going on.

The bar tender explained how it worked and offered him a canvas and some paint. But he declined with a half smile that looked simultaneously embarrassed and "too cool."

But he kept watching other people painting. His friend encouraged him to give it a try. And finally he said, "Okay, why not?"

It was such a treat to watch him (and eventually my husband too!) dabble in the world of painting, something they had zero experience with.

And the result?

It turned out to be a lot more fun than they thought, and the end product was far better than they ever expected.

That's the magic!

Now, those men may never paint another picture again. But they can no longer say that they "can't" do it.

New Possibilities

This painting bar has grown a successful day-time business of hosting corporate groups for team-building and leadership events. It's hugely popular because when people are made to dabble in something outside their norm, new possibilities open up.

They become more vulnerable. They support each other differently. They take risks in ways they otherwise might not.

Many years ago, I thought that when I started my own business, it would be one of those "Paint Your Own Pottery" shops because I love encouraging and witnessing people dabble in new forms of creativity.

Now I do that in a different way, working with entrepreneurs on creating content. The similarities are striking.

Rather than stepping up to a blank canvas, you are stepping up to a blank computer screen or a video camera or a smart phone. In any of these cases you must be willing to put something on it and see what happens.

When you start by dabbling, you open the way toward improvement, new creations, and growth.

What is the thing you've been wanting to try for a while but haven't done it? How can you dabble in it? Get started!

Using Your Subconscious Mind

woman spreading arms near body of water

When it comes to the subconscious mind many of us have heard of it, however, we have no idea on how to use it to benefit our lives. It has been said we have been given this wonderful gift of the human mind however we were not given an instruction book at birth on how to use it.

Therefore, our minds, more importantly, our subconscious minds are left to be programmed by others when we are growing up and therefore end up picking up the beliefs that either our parents have, or other family members and teachers expound on for example.

Unfortunately, many of them may be carrying their own limiting self-belief patterns and ultimately end up passing them to you.

We as adults they continue to carry these beliefs that we were taught without any knowledge how it affects our success and failures in life.

The sooner we understand the power of our subconscious minds and how to take control over it and reprogram it for success rather than failure for instance, the sooner we get our lives on track and learn to create our own destinies in a positive way.

The subconscious mind is neutral in how it operates, it is just following what has been previously programmed into it through suggestion, and repetition of our thoughts for example.

Our habits that we have are controlled by our subconscious minds for example and the power that it possesses makes it hard to quit these habits.

If you want a perfect example of a hard habit to break that is controlled by the subconscious mind, just ask someone who smokes and let them explain to you the difficulty in stopping the smoking habit.

Willpower will not break these habits alone, we have to use a different approach with the subconscious. Two of the areas that are often used is visualization and repeated verbal affirmations to help influence this part of the human mind.

Visualization has been around for centuries and is used quite often by everyone from CEOs of major corporations to professional athletes. Many of us use visualization in ours and do not even know it.

To influence your subconscious and make it work for you when it comes to achieving a major goal you want to achieve or, prepare for public speaking engagement, for instance, position yourself somewhere comfortable and close your eyes and see yourself performing the appointed task or completing the goal you are working for and visualize what the finished product will look like.

This is a process that takes only a few minutes a day and is best performed when you are relaxed so that you can see in detail what you are envisioning. The more detail you can give your subconscious, the more efficient it becomes in bringing the desired results to fruition.

Repetition is the key here it will take time to permeate your mind and direct your subconscious to whatever you are trying to achieve.

Affirmations are another tool you can use to fill your subconscious mind with power directing thoughts. Affirmations can be stated out loud or you can use them in your self-talk that you use with yourself to slowly install the new belief you want to take place in your life.

The key to both visualization and the use of affirmations is repetition and using emotion. Your subconscious mind becomes highly receptive to those thoughts and ideas that are backed by emotion.

Using your subconscious mind to control your destiny in life takes practice, and repetition by starting with the two mental processes listed above.

Keep it simple but consistent, and remember, our subconscious does not care what you program into it, it will though always deliver what is planted inside of it which is done by your continual thoughts and your environment so choose it wisely.

Truthlessness Versus Truthfulness

These are two wonderful words that produce an amazing juxtaposition of terms, definitions, and intent in living and in life. Truthlessness embodies lies and deceit, fooling others while sometimes tricking yourself into believing that the tangled web you have created has shreds and evidence of honesty and integrity. Young children often tell lies to save themselves trouble and punishment. It is difficult to be honest when a swat or a grounding will result and dishonesty will permit a handy escape. But hopefully as the child grows and experiences more of live, s/he will realize that while a lie may be followed by a penalty it is still the best method, the wisest choice in the long run. The truth is a multi-faceted charm.

Truthfulness on the other hand embodies truth and candor, openness that is direct and reliable, built on faithfulness and dedication to others and/or the common good. When someone is truthful s/he still possesses desires and wishes but is also able to look at a situation or problem from many angles to discover the answer that best serves all concerned. While sometimes the truth may hurt, like when you are denied a promotion or do not receive a promised bonus, there is an opportunity to learn as well. This learning may be positive as in, "She worked harder and had more clever ideas than I did and so she deserved this promotion. Because of this I will work to become more productive and far-sighted by... " Or the learning may be negative, "The boss loves him and so I never really had a chance. I just think I will fume and stew for a while. I'll show that ol' boss... "

Either response is possible and I suppose the degree of truthlessness or truthfulness varies in every situation and perspective. So I guess it is essential to examine situations through a multitude or at least a couple of lenses - yours, that of your strongest opponent, and perhaps a mid-stream opinion. After all, everyone has lived different experiences and has thus developed different ways of thinking, responding, and doing.

How does one move to total truthfulness, especially with extensive experience in truthlessness? Some children, for example, are raised in lies. Parents lie to the boss or to child welfare or to food stamp providers and so the kids think this is just the way to live. Mom begs on the street and "earns" hundreds of dollars a day so it must be an honorable and honest profession. How does an outsider explain and exemplify how truthfulness is far more beneficial and rewarding? The best a leader can do, I guess, is lead but a truthful example and demand that of all employees and others with whom s/he works and interacts does so as well.

Maybe that is the only way to guide to truthfulness, one leader/parent/director/teacher at a time living in honesty and integrity, admitting strengths and recognizing and working on changing weaknesses. Imagine a world of total truth. Tough skin would be an initial requirement because the truth can be spikey and pokey, painful and nightmarish. But then once you knew with total belief that only sincerity and uprightness exist and there is no need of fear because there is no danger, just authenticity, wow! What a safe and creatively exciting world would appear.
