5 Body Language Secrets That Boost Your Productivity

Body language has become a popular subject area in recent years since the release of the best-selling book <What Every BODY is Saying> written by an ex-FBI agent Joe Narvarro.

While certain gestures can be faked when someone tries to convey misleading information, there are micro expressions that are very difficult to be controlled consciously.

Anyhow, psychologists and behavioral scientists have proven that your body language can shape who you are. (Amy Cuddy's Ted talk is one of the great examples.)

Below are 5 ways to influence your feelings and productive actions by controlling your body language.

#1 The Wonder Woman Pose

Yes, I am talking about the renowned DC Comics's Diana Price power pose.

Research have found that when you do that pose for just 2 minutes, your testosterone level can be raised by 20%, while cortisol levels can drop by 25%. Testosterone is directly related to your energy level and motivation while cortisol is the stress hormone that we want as little as possible.

Thus, when you stand up tall, put your chest out, place your hands on your hips like a beautiful "Wonder Woman", you will feel much more driven to do the work.

#2 The "Chop That Head" Movement

This is one of my favorite "state change" tricks.

Whenever I feel tense, stressed or overwhelmed, the fastest way I've found to get myself back to the positive, dominant and productive state is to do this "chopping head" movement.

Basically, you hold your hand as if you're a karate master. You do that knife hand strike and cut straight through the air from your head to your stomach.

It may look silly when you are performing the gesture, but this is a very effective way to summon your warrior energy to help you crush anything. When you feel like an unstoppable gladiator, you are naturally more willing to get back to work on that difficult task.

#3 Crazy Hopping Dance

Another super movement that can get you back in state is to hop like an excited kid with your hands throwing up the sky.

Enthusiasm does not just come to you. You've to take the responsibility to generate it.

When I turn on some Electronic Dance Music (EDM) in Spotify and start to dance as if I've won the championship, I will feel awesome within 3 minutes and I will be in state again to dominate my path.

Between shyness and success, what are you going to choose?

#4 Stand Up & Work If You Can

Excessive sitting is killing you.

Our body is designed to move, not to remain sedentary. We used to move around all day long when we were hunters and gatherers, but industrial revolution started this "pandemic of immobility".

Journal of Internal Medicine found that sitting more than 11 hours a day raises premature death risk by 40%. Also, excessive sitting causes a ton of health issues like cardiovascular diseases, heart attack, drop in good cholesterol, increase in diabetes risks etc.

Advice?

Invest in a standing desk or even a treadmill desk if you are able to. Commit yourself to at least 20 minutes of thinking walks during the day. Move your body as much as you can and stop sitting so long!

#5 When In Doubt, Lean Out and Slow Down Your Movements

During important conversations like deal negotiations, a lot of people lean in and react to what the others say. This actually communicates that you kind of need the thing to happen and you'll likely to fidget.

Not only will this set you into a lower bargaining position, but this will also make you more nervous and probably fail to get the outcome you want.

Remember, when in doubt, lean out.

Take a few deep breathes down to your belly, relax your shoulders, look up and put your chin up. Slow down the words, the gestures and cut your movement into half.

This signals back to your brain that "No big deal, I can handle this crap" and you'll increase your chance of having a productive outcome.

So, have you got your favorite body language secret out of the 5 above? Regardless, stop all your learning, go out there, and start implementing one of them today!

Quick Ways to Manage Time for Family

Did you know that till the 16th century the word family was used only to represent the household servants? It was only after 1667 that the word family was used to refer to those in blood relations, especially the parents and their offspring. And, we are talking about family in this context in the following article.

It seems that the more sentimental the meaning of the word has become the more difficult it has become, in the modern life, to keep up with the expectations of being a family member. Are you someone facing a difficulty in being there for the family? Then here are a few tips for you.

Make a Choice

The most important thing you need to do is to make a choice between your family and the other thing. You cannot be at two places in one time and so it is you who has to decide where to show up.

You can either spend an entire evening with your friends or deviding the same time between your family and friends. I have a friend who is a physiotherapist. Due to his paramedic profession he has little time left for socializing, let alone any time for himself. Yet, when I talk to him he does share how he went to a movie with his parents and then how much fun he had during beer party at a friend`s house.

When I asked him how he manages to maintain the balance and he said that multitasks. He may hang around with friends but do shopping being in a mall and if he has to relax at home he did rather take his parents out.

Spare the Weekend

Keep one day of the weekend exclusively for the family and let your friends know about it so no one makes any such plan for which you have to say no and feel guilty later on for not going.

Most people suggest that things pick up by weekend afternoons and family members plan to go out by the evening. So, in case you need to meet your friends or got something important to do then get it done before noon.

A Meal Together

This is one of the best ways to catch up with your parents, siblings or children. You may either volunteer to cook with the gang or chit-chat; your wish. Nothing brings people more close than sitting down together and having food.

Take a Walk

If any of your family members walks to work or school/collage (you are lucky if your roads to work/school are the same), then you should try walking with them more often.

Even otherwise, a nice walk after dinner or on mornings of holidays is a nice way to re-connect.

Remember Special Occasions

Be there for the birthday celebrations and anniversaries. If you think you owe something to one of the members in your family then these special occasions are just the time to make them feel special.

Take advantage of the occasion and do something special for them that you have not done for them in a while. It could mean getting them something that they have been asking for since long or just spend time with them.

Make use of Technology

The fact that the world has become a global village should be taken an advantage of in favor of your family. Keep connected through emails, text messages and phone calls. When the whole world is a click away why should there be any distance from the family.

Top 7 Ways to Stop Wasting Time

Most of the people who try to make an attempt to manage time confess that sometimes they cannot analyze where exactly is their time getting wasted. In our everyday life a minor or major portion of our time gets wasted. Let us understand the most common ways in which we tend to waste our time and how we can save time.

1. Keep a Check on You

Maintain an excel sheet of every hour that you spend in your day, especially at work. Entry in the excel sheet can be made at bedtime.

Quickly revive what you did from the time that you got up. You will be surprised to know how much time you spend on not-so-important issues. Keep updating this excel sheet for one month.

Do a critical self analysis of your time management skills. Compare it with the list of goals that you wish to achieve. Does the excel sheet reflect that you are working on the path of achieving your goals?

2. Stay Away from Gossip

Gossiping could be addictive. Blame it on your curiosity for that. Stay away from this habit if you wish to save your time.

Gossip never ends in one sentence. Once your curiosity is triggered you can be caught up in a useless discussion for more than "5 minutes". It is good to be aware about what is going on around you but not at the cost of your working time.

3. Practice Quick Decision Making

In order to save your time, practice taking quick decisions based on facts and figures available. There is a difference between taking a quick decision and taking a hasty decision. A good decision will always bring a "win-win" situation for everyone involved.

Quick decision making is not just restricted to your office but it also involves making instant choices while shopping, picking a dress for the evening, cooking a meal, choosing the right school for your child or taking up a new insurance.

4. Talk Less Work More

The point is to get into action rather than getting into endless discussions. Whether it is your personal life or your professional life, no matter how complicated the situation is, always look for the solution rather than looking at the problem.

5. Keep Dressing Style Simple

Most of the people find it tough to decide what to wear. Here are some simple ways of saving time while dressing up. Categorize your wardrobe and keep different types of cloths on different shelves. Preferably, match your cloths and arrange them in advance on weekends so that there is no waste of time on the weekdays in matching the cloths.

To save time on dressing up, try to have a simple style that does not require much maintenance.

6. Cut Extra Entertainment from Life

Count the time you spend on watching television soaps or other form of entertainment. Ask yourself if you really want this much entertainment. Even if you do not have a deadline to meet and are looking for a way to have a nice time, try to spend it in a more fruitful way.

7. Be Practical and Rational

When emotions take a toll things can get a little out of control. Emotions, especially negative emotions, deplete mental and physical energy.

More time will be required to recover from this type of exhaustion. It will affect problem solving ability and decision making. Practice being practical and try to be rational in your approach.

Five Tips To Keep Errands From Running You

It seems that there are always more errands to run - something else to purchase or return, another place to stop into. Just when you catch up and feel a brief reprieve, it starts all over again. Organizing errands to make the most of your time and minimize travel helps keep errands from sucking up your weekends and free time.

Here are five tips to keep errands from running you:

#1 GET IT OUT OF YOUR HEAD

Whenever you have that "I need to... " thought, immediately get it out of your head and onto paper or into an electronic system that you regularly review and take action on. There's no reason for errand thoughts to be taking up brain space or energy that can be more productively directed elsewhere. Apps like Evernote, Any.do and Out Of Milk are wonderful places to keep shopping lists and errand reminders. Good 'ol pen and paper also works. No matter what system you use, the key is to ensure everything is in one place and is reviewed regularly - at least weekly - to create an errand plan.

#2 PLOT YOUR COURSE

When reviewing your errand list, plot a course geographically based on the time you have. Be realistic about the time each stop will take and number each stop on your list to minimize decision making once you're on the road. Also consider if one stop is dependent on another when defining the order. If you're going to be in a specific area of town on a given day, consider what tasks nearby can be completed. And remember that places like grocery stores and banks are everywhere. Is it possible to stop in on your way to pick up the kids or dog? Be intentional and plan ahead.

#3 USE AN ACTION BAG/BIN

Place a reusable bag or decorative bin near the house door to hold any and all items that need to go with you to accomplish errands. The book you need to return? The receipt that the PTA needs for reimbursement? Store it there until you're on your errand run.

#4 KEEP COUPONS IN THE GLOVE BOX

Store all coupons in an envelope or folder in the glove box of your car. That way you'll never be without them when you need them.

#5 LET YOUR FINGERS DO THE WORK

With the multitude of online shopping platforms, there's no need to leave the house to obtain many useful items. Save drive time and gas money by doing your shopping online for anything that doesn't need to be seen, felt, touched, or tasted before purchasing.

But beware - this can be an incredible time suck, and before you know it, five minutes searching for a new sweater has become an hour putting together a brand new outfit. Set a timer before you start, and stick to it!

With some planning and organization, errand running can be a breeze and free up your time to pursue the things you love to do.

Get to Know Yourself and Deepen Your Journey in Time!

When you make time to explore life's mysteries you're doing something that always enriches you in powerful and, often very unexpected ways.

And this kind of in-depth exploration is also, often, the first thing that we set aside when life gets busy.

You might ask, "When is life NOT busy?!" And that's an excellent question. If you wait for 'leisure time' to get to know yourself and your heart-felt values better, well, you may never actually do it.

The thing is that, among the fundamental mysteries of life, our own hearts and minds can frequently present us with some of the biggest puzzles. And the less you know yourself, the more you'll bump into these sometimes confusing surprises. Do you find that to be true?

  • Are there things that you shy away from without understanding why?
  • Have you reacted strongly to something and then thought, "Hmmmm, I wonder where that came from?"
  • Would you like to tune in more deeply to the stories that you tell yourself?
  • Would you like to change some of those stories? The ones that keep you from being your fullest and freest self... and stepping toward your cherished dreams?

I find that the human psyche is an endless trove of treasures just waiting to be discovered by intrepid explorers who take the time to delve down and look around! The mysteries that we harbor, each of us, are there to be uncovered. What is needed is an investment of time... and of listening... to develop an authentic and supportive relationship with ourselves.

And the really good news is that the time investment doesn't have to be daunting. Small increments is a key mantra to keep in mind whenever you think about time - and especially with a lifelong enterprise like maintaining and deepening your relationship with yourself.

Small increments! It is much more important to be authentic and steady in your connection with yourself, than it is to spend hours at it. Yes, "more time" is great... but given a choice, I would opt for steadiness and frequency every time!

Think of it as tending a garden... working the soil... keeping up with the nurturing and weeding and finding moments to do it. Sometimes you find a Saturday when you can spend several hours gardening. Sometimes you come home from work, gaze at your plants lovingly, pull a weed or two, and move on to other things.

Small increments! What's important is maintaining the steady engagement and contact. The harvest will come!

7 Top Causes of Procrastination: Deal With It Efficiently

Procrastination: What does It Mean?

What is procrastination? What are the top causes of procrastination? Very simply, procrastination means, the action of delaying or postponing something. According to Wikipedia: "Procrastination is the avoidance of doing a task which needs to be accomplished. It is the practice of doing more pleasurable things in place of less pleasurable ones or carrying out less urgent tasks instead of more urgent ones, thus putting off impending tasks to a later time. Sometimes, procrastination takes place until the "last minute" before a deadline. Procrastination can take hold on any aspect of life - putting off cleaning the stove, repairing a leaky roof, seeing a doctor or dentist, submitting a job report or academic assignment or broaching a stressful issue with a partner. Procrastination can lead to feelings of guilt, inadequacy, depression and self-doubt. So, what are the top causes of procrastination?

Let's proceed with it so that procrastination can be avoided!

7 Top Causes of Procrastination

Do you know the reasons why you procrastinate? They may be different to those of another person. The reasons for procrastination relate to a feeling, belief and the task at hand. Only when you identify them can you do something about it.

Here are the seven top causes of procrastination:

Distraction:
Gossip, text messages, Facebook and e-mail are some reasons why people procrastinate. There are even people who get distracted because they find or just feel something is out of place on their desk. The average employee wastes up to 2 hours or more a day on tasks that have nothing to do with work.

Fear of success:
To be successful comes with a price to pay. This may be longer working hours, new enemies, isolation from family, etc. Basically, you fear of what success will bring and procrastination grasps you.

Fear of failure:
What would you do if it weren't possible for you to fail? Fear ensures your survival but is also one of the reasons for procrastination. You may think that failing is worse than not even trying. So you protect yourself by putting things off.

Perfectionism:
Trying to do a perfect task puts a lot of pressure on you, making you feel so stressed that you procrastinate. Maybe parents set expectations that are too high, you are concerned with what others think or you constantly criticize your work. Any situation where you feel evaluated has a chance to be one of the reasons why people procrastinate.

Lack of skills:
Not knowing how to do a task makes it more difficult than it has to be. By nature, we tend to avoid difficult things and take care of those that are easy. You may have a tough time admitting your skill deficits because you do not want to come across as a good-for-nothing.

Lack of interest:
Let's say you're not interested in doing a task, at least at the moment. By putting it off, you feel like you are losing nothing of value. However, doing so can result counterproductive. In life, there are times when you have to complete certain tasks you do not like to do.

Lack of rewards
Another of the reasons for procrastination is because their efforts are never rewarded. This is not necessarily a responsibility of your boss. Promising yourself to watch that exciting new movie, spend time with friends or some other fun activity can serve you to keep going. Remember that rewards are not only external but also internal, so make sure to give yourself credit for your work.

Are the above the only reasons why people procrastinate? Certainly not, but they are the top causes of procrastination. You can uncover more of them by observing yourself while doing a task.

Life is short. Everyone wants to be succeed in life. But what makes a person's life a success is still a big question. Many attributes are related to success that ranges from physical to mental counts, hard skills to soft skills, hard works, thought-process, dreams, reality, happiness, hardship and what not!
Factors that have an effect on and affect the success in life also vary. In a broader aspect, three things actually determine the ultimate SUCCESS of life:
• Health
• Skills
• Money

Break It Down and Get It Done

Ever have one of those days when there are lots of things you know you should be doing but you just can't seem to move forward on any of them? Me too - especially during non-winter months, when I'd rather be outside than doing any of the many things it takes to run my business. Here are some ideas to make moving forward easier and help you achieve more success in getting things done.

Just as mosaics are made up of individual tiles, projects are made up of individual tasks. The first step in moving projects forward is identifying the (sometimes many) discrete steps - the tiles, so to speak - that will lead to completion. This will give you a clear, specific activity to focus on, and eliminate (or at least minimize) the overwhelm you may otherwise feel when you focus only on the entire mosaic.

For example, let's say you want to create a budget. No matter how worthwhile this endeavor may be, it can seem overwhelming in its enormity and the number of hours it will take to complete. Breaking it down into bite-size pieces, or even smaller nibbles, can be the key to taking action. Here are some possibilities:

· Pull receipts from wallet

· Find envelope of last month's receipts

· Sort receipts by category (groceries, dining out, clothes, etc.)

· Add up expenditures by category

· Etc.

You'll notice that each item listed is a distinct action, a stand-alone step. You'll also note that some of these steps can be done quickly, while others may take quite some time - assigning time estimates to each task will let you know how much time you'll want to have available before starting. Or, it can alert you to the fact that it may take several sessions to finish a single step.

The beauty of this approach is that you'll know exactly what you need to do and approximately how long it will take. This clarity will allow you to choose what you're in the mood for and/or what you have time for. Alternatively, you may choose to work on something for a certain amount of time per session (e.g., in 30-minute chunks) until you complete it. Whether you work on tasks until they're completed, or chip away for set amounts of time, you'll certainly experience more success moving things forward when you follow the method of breaking things down.

I'd love to hear what projects you're trying to tackle, and how you manage to break them down to move them forward.
