5 Reasons Why You Should Act Young at Heart

When you look at a child, you can see that they are carefree and living in the moment. They are present in whatever they do and are living each day like it is the only day they have. So why as adults, do we cause so much pain and anxiousness in our lives? We have let go of that childlike wonder and mindset that we used to enjoy. Not because we have to, but because we (somewhat unknowingly) choose to.

We create the stress, the worry, and the fear that our lives have become so full of everyday. Here are five reasons you should be young at heart:

1. It makes you feel more youthful
2. It gives you, and others, permission to have fun
3. We all have a child inside us that wants to come out
4. It helps beat stress
5. Why should the kids have all the fun? You should too!

Wouldn't it be nice to live with the mindset of a child? Yes, we still have responsibilities, but if we can truly learn to let go and live in the present moment, our lives would be so much more peaceful and enjoyable.

We have choices in life and we can choose to live in that place with all the grown up emotions that we have learned, or let go and be young at heart. This doesn't mean letting go of adult responsibilities, this means letting the child inside of you come out and look at things through a different perspective.

I once read that Billionaire Warren Buffet eats a bowl of chocolate chip ice cream for breakfast on occasion. Talk about eating like a six-year old! Who says we can't have ice cream or cake for breakfast once in a while. I for one love a bowl of Lucky Charms or Captain Crunch cereal on occasion! It brings out the kid in all of us and makes us happy too!

We don't have to be stuffy adults and once in a while can do things that most adults would shake their head at. My fiancé and I were at the mall one day and they had a kiosk with the oversized motorized animals for kids to ride on. We were feeling adventurous and asked the employee if adults could ride. We were told we could so we rented one. For 15 minutes, the two of us rode around the mall like two kids laughing and having the time of our lives. Yes, there were a couple of stuffy adults that gave us looks of disgust however, most people smiled and were happy to see us having fun. In fact, we saw two other young adult couples riding them when we were turning ours in after they had seen us riding. It was as though we gave them permission to cut loose also.

We were living in the moment and that memory still makes us smile. We saw an opportunity to be young at heart and we acted on it. We did not care what others thought, we weren't hurting anyone and we gave other people something to smile about. We had a couple of pictures taken of us and I am sure the photos went on social media that day for a laugh.

We recently bought a couple of skateboards for the two of us as well. We were with our younger two kids - ages 10 and 12. They thought it was the coolest thing as they both have boards too. We went out in the neighborhood and rode around the neighborhood a couple of times. Fortunately, we had good balance and kept quite conservative but regardless, we had fun and gave the kids memories that they won't ever forget.

Let go of how you think you should act and do things that brings out the kid in you. Eat ice cream, wear bunny ears, put on a princess crown, play at the arcade, and blow bubbles. Give yourself permission to have fun and bring out the child in you. If you have kids, they will love it.

We all need more light-heartedness in our lives and what better way to do it then to get down to the basics of just "being" and letting that inner child inside each of us come out and play!
