Being the captain on the bridge vs. the execution person does not give license to silence well-intended advice from others.

The best leaders use the power they have earned to create a climate of trust, cooperation and accomplishment in which people are positively motivated. The best way to increase your personal power is to seek additional responsibility. The amount of responsibility you take is related directly to the amount of power and influence you possess.

To be successful and happy, you have to be yourself. You have to be intentional about shaping your life according to your values. Trust yourself, believe in yourself and be honest with yourself. Others will trust, believe and be honest with you and it is that foundation that will enhance personal power. If you are to be a successful and happy leader, establish healthy, open relationships with others.
