Have you ever felt overwhelmed by how much you have to do? Have you decided to procrastinate because you are at a loss of where to start? Have you ever been advised to map out how to reach your destination based on your why? Except you don't know what your why is? Have you ever been frustrated because you read or hear how well your colleagues are doing? You're happy for them but deep down you really care how you are doing.
If you are feeling overwhelmed with the amount you have to do, may I suggest this simple formula to get unstuck? Each day do three things:
1. Do one thing you really dislike doing.
2. Do one thing that you absolute love doing.
3. Do one thing that has a time limit attached to it.
This formula helps you feel that you're moving forward and gives you a sense of accomplishment. Pick the thing you dislike doing the most and do it first thing in the morning. You'll experience a wonderful sense of achievement when it's done. Next work on something that needs to get done within a certain time frame.
What do you need to do that has a time limit attached to it? Put intense focus on it. You'll be amazed at how intense focus gets it done faster. Don't believe me?. Have you ever crammed for exams? It's the same skill. See, you're already good at this.
Bravo! You're on a roll.
Consider this. What do you think happens when you spend time doing something you love? It revitalizes you! Doesn't it? It fills up your cup! It validates that you are taking care of yourself. Right? It also may get rid of resentment of looking after the needs of others.
What do you love to do? Are you a master at designing? Then make sure you design every day. I love reading and writing. When I fit it into my daily routine I feel energized.
This formula is simple. Try it! You've got nothing to lose. It's a great way to get 'unstuck'. Pat yourself on the back. Tell yourself that you are one step closer to reaching your goals. The number of things that you've put off will gradually decrease. You will feel energized because you have made time for yourself. You are keeping your commitments.
Do one thing at a time and eventually you will see the light at the end of the tunnel. How does that make you feel? Amazing? Guess what - you are!
