How To Be Happy Even When You're Working From Home
Do people who work from home have a better well-being than people who don't?
While it really depends on the individual, people who work from home tend to be happier.
Of course, it also depends on whether those home workers are self-employed. If you are telecommuting, you still have the shackles of working for someone else. But even then, people find it more enjoyable to work from home.
However, working from home isn't always 100% challenges bulletproof. There are quite a few of drawbacks and disadvantages that go along with it.
First, you have to be very disciplined, self-motivated and driven.
You should set up personal boundaries and space just like an office that is dedicated for your work purposes.
Make it clear to your family members that they should treat your office as if it were located away from home. Otherwise, they will be compelled to interrupt you any their convenience.
Next, you must keep items that can easily distract you away from your office.
Unless your business depends on watching the news, don't put a TV in your office! Get rid of your PS4, Xbox One consoles so you don't get tempted to play games while working.
If you work in a telecommuting situation for someone else, you should make an effort to get more work done than you would if you had to commute into the office.
You want to take away any reasons for your bosses to revoke your telecommuting privileges. You should chalk it up to the fact that you don't have to spend extra time commuting.
Another consideration when working from home is to separate work life from home life.
It can be too easy and convenient when you are at home to work longer hours. Your boss may be tempted to call you up in the evenings to take care of something for him or her.
The fact that you have access to the office makes it too accessible for both you and your boss. So you need to be strategic when it comes to setting up your reachable hours. Discourage unsolicited office hours if possible.
If you are self-employed, you will need to determine your plan of action.
This can be very difficult for people to get a handle on, especially those fresh entrepreneurs early on starting a brand new business.
Not having a boss is a double-edged sword. You have the freedom to do as you please but you need to make sure what you are doing is going to produce real tangible profitable results. You are solely responsible for making things happen and done.
If you have the desire to work from home, you seriously want to pay more attention to the challenges you can face despite the freedom you're trading off with. It's a rewarding experience for sure, but you've got to have a strong mental toughness to make this work.
