I loathed myself.
I am a wimp. Or at least I have been one. My wimp-like behavior crossed many situations in my life. From talking to a crowd to standing up for myself.
During the last 15 years I have met a lot of wimps. Wimps go by their day to day lives hating themselves. We see them everywhere.
How do we break our wimp-like behavior and create a stronger self? How can you create self-confidence? Self-confidence means to have a feeling of trust in one’s abilities, qualities and judgement. Do you trust yourself?
The following 5 ways will help you take advantage of Jedi mind-tricks to create a stronger sense of self and boost your self-confidence.
1. Make time for yourself
Spending time with yourself sounds awkward. How do you start trusting in someone else? Is it not by getting to know them better and finding out their likes, dislikes, goals, achievements and desires? That is why you need to make time for yourself. The benefits of solitude are plentiful. Use an hour in the morning\evening to be with yourself.
What do you do when you have time to yourself?
- read
- meditate
- pray
- write
- create art
Do whatever makes you comfortable to be with yourself. Feel awkward? Don’t worry too much about it. It will become more comfortable the more time you spend with yourself doing things you like. You need to know without any doubt that you, yes you dear reader, matter.
2. Get into the time machine
Think about your first kiss.
Good, now I have you in the time machine. Think about a time or situation in your life where something good happened because of you. Maybe you had to make a decision and the consequences were all good. Do you feel the excitement in your stomach?
Try and remember more of the good things that happened in your life. Think especially about those times when you felt confident and full of courage. Really think about it. Feel it, hear it, taste it, touch it.
Write down how you felt when you were in that moment. What did you hear and what did you see? Anchoring is a tool Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) gave us to create states. A state is a way of being. Example: being angry or sad. I know this sound weird, but remember its Jedi mind-tricks. It is supposed to be weird. After-all this will help you.
Anyways, when you look at what you wrote down you will start to notice that you can recreate that state. How? Just by getting into the time-machine and seeing in your mind the situation where you had the self-confidence of the American president himself. When you reached the climax of the state make sure to anchor it with something physical. Example: pinch yourself, make a sound or snap your fingers three times or whatever works for you. Now every time you want to be in that state you can just replay your anchor. That is your key to the time machine. Make sure you read more about anchoring as this is a valuable tool.
3. Be clear on what you want
Do you know what you want? Sure you do. So how will you answer that question? Many people find it difficult to answer that question. If you don’t know what you want how will you create your life’s objectives? What is the quickest way to make sure what you want?
Ask yourself the following question: what excites me? Mmmm, now that just opened up a whole different kind of can. The possibilities are endless. You know what makes all this so exciting? It is the fact that you know that you can have the things that excites you! Sure some things might take longer for others to manifest in your life. The secret is that you need to keep on working on doing the things that gets you excited. What will you do today that will excite you?
4. Find out what others are saying behind your back
No no no, we are not talking gossip here. You need to know what positive things people are saying behind your back. It is time to get some feedback. Go to a free online survey creator or make your own. Send it to your friends and wait patiently. Read through your feedback and be proud of yourself. You will be amazed at what people really think about you.
What kind of questions can you ask? Make pretty sure you do not ask questions that will elicit something negative. Use the following questions as guidelines:
List three things you like about me?
Why are you friends with me?
Keep on building on these questions and soon you will have a good survey. Please do not bore your friends to death by sending them 100 questions. Ten to twelve will do.
5. Don’t hit ignore when your intuition is sending you a message.
Our gut feelings are important. If we ignore them on a regular basis then it will stop talking to you. You don’t want that to happen trust me. Your gut feelings are there for a reason. It is to supply us with signals that will protect us. Our unconscious mind can pick up on things and will send you signals. Trust these signals. Make use of them. When you are faced with a decision allow time for your subconscious to send you these signals. After a while this will become second nature and you will start to trust yourself and therefore build stronger self-confidence.
These and other Jedi mind-tricks will help you create a stronger self. What can you do with this stronger self? Conquer the world. Grab that new opportunity. Do what excites you. Be the best that you can be.
What do you need to do now? Stop being a wimp and apply what you have learned. Do it often. Make it a habit.
By creating a stronger self you will enjoy a life filled with excitement!
