Imagination and Creativity: A Simple Demonstration

If this article sounds like an advice, so be it.

As an author, I encourage you to view it as an observation.

Imagination and creativity feed on each other. In the process of feeding each other both grow. As opposed to many vicious circles you come across in life, these two together form a divine circle. People very rarely understand the difference between divine and vicious circles, thereby missing an opportunity to experience them in their true spirit.

Imagination is a natural, but rarely used faculty of mind and when used it creates dramatically new reality. Here is a simple and very common example. A creative piece of writing always turns out to be imaginative in nature. When you read it you will feel it instinctively.

You already know this. Still, let me state it explicitly. You can convert everything coming in front of you into a creative input to fuel your imagination. All the material required to achieve the feat is built into you. Your job is very simple. Just consciously choose from what is there in front of you!

Let me explain it by using a trivial and simple example here.

Let us say you have come across an essay. You have read it fully. You feel that the essay is written badly. Since you have judged it as bad, logically speaking, you should know what is good. Can you use that information to convert the original essay into a good one? Do it immediately. You will be the greatest witness to your imagination working wonders. In the process, you will see your own creativity blossoming.

Now, here is the interesting part. It leads you to a tricky situation. If you are successful in converting a bad essay into good one, can you still call the original essay as bad?

Here is the conundrum associated with the choice you make. Is it not unfair to label something as bad, when in reality, the very same thing has inspired you to extract something good out of yourself?

There are many things which are classified as bad and yet they become extremely useful in crunch situations. Do you want to still call them bad or is it time to identify the purpose of their goodness? Can you stretch your imagination to understand and appreciate the choice provided to you at every such instance? Well, the circle is complete here. You need to spur your creativity!

On the other hand, if you fail in the process of converting a bad essay into good one, what should be your conclusion?
