How Come The Law Of Attraction Isn't Working?

The law of attraction is the idea that thoughts become things over a very long period of time. First they become ideas and then they become beliefs. Actions are based on beliefs usually and our actions drive our lives and the outcomes in our lives.

So, just by thinking about what you want to create in life, you can bring it about right? The trouble is, we give some thought to what we want, and then forget about it and go about our daily lives.

Before long, we slip back into our daily habits and normal way of thinking and nothing much changes. We still do the same things, talk about the same stuff and nothing changes. But how come? I watched The Secret and did some visualising?

If you want something major to happen in life, you need to take some major steps to bring them about. Things don't magically change overnight just because you want them to. You need to be a part of the process, not just sit back and let life happen to you.

So how can we effectively apply the law of attraction in our own lives? Why does the law of attraction fail?

The law of attraction doesn't work for many people because they have too high an expectation of what they can achieve, or too low an expectation of what is required to make it happen. Unless you're willing to put the work in when the answers arrive, you'll pretty much get what you have now.

Habits rule our lives not dreams. You need a concrete target to hit if you want to achieve something. Wishful thinking and daydreaming are good ways to get creative about what you want to achieve, but they are still in the realm of the invisible unless you make them tangible and attach them to a tangible goal and direction.

Then you need to take some positive action and work towards achieving your goal. The bigger your goal the longer the time period you'll need to attain it. If your goal is to make a cup of coffee and have a biscuit, you can achieve it within a few minutes, if you have those things in your cupboard!

If you want financial freedom, consider this a long-term goal which may take years of your life to achieve. Both are possible goals but both will require very different action steps and timelines to achieve.

Why else do people fail with the law of attraction? The material in the film The Secret gave an overview to the law of attraction. At face value, it's easy to take this information and assume a daydream can become a reality, if you wanted it enough. But that's not the full story.

Daydreaming and visualising can help implant an idea in the subconscious mind. But it takes a lot of doing this over a long period of time to start generating results from it. You could meet someone or create an event which gives you an idea for an action plan.

But if you're unclear on your action plan, it's easy to give up and assume that the law of attraction is just not true. But by assuming this, you already lose the power to be a conscious creator of your own reality.

More likely than not, you'll have a bunch of assumptions, blame stories and victim mentalities floating around in your mind which stop you from taking action on any number of directions.

People who are attracted to the idea of the law of attraction can also be those who are unsure of their own direction in life too. Perhaps you want others to tell you what to do, or you're not used to carving your own path. These personality traits can show themselves up in a number of ways and block your ability to create a life of your own choosing.

So, if you're struggling with the law of attraction, don't assume it doesn't work. Look closer into your choices. Perhaps you're a passenger on the 'bus' of life, letting others lead and take control. Maybe you're wanting to take more control for yourself and are tired of taking a back seat?

Whatever the reason, a good first step is to read the original books on which Rhonda Byrne's The Secret is based. Think and Grow Rich - Napoleon Hill, The Science Of Getting Rich Wallace Wattles and Working With The Law - Raymond Holliwell are good books to start with.

Get clear on your direction first too before writing off the law of attraction. How can the genie of the universe bring about your biggest dreams if you don't have a clear idea of what they are? Think about what you want often. Give yourself time to visualise a future which you would really love to live. How does it look in terms of daily living, romance and career? Where will you live and what will you do on a daily basis.

Don't base your fantasy on what you currently believe is possible either. If you only daydream and fantasize about what you currently believe is possible, forward growth and future progression is stunted to include only the version of you which exists now.

Get creative and daydream your best fantasy. Don't worry about the 'hows', just focus on the things you really want to happen and create the feelings and images in your mind of living them. Do this on a regular basis and you'll soon start to see possible routes to create your best future according to your fantasy.

Most people stunt their fantasies and cut off themselves from what is possible. They worry about being realistic, not about living the life of their dreams. Because of this, they don't take time to imagine how they would really like to live. This limits their potential and stops them taking action steps in the present to move into their future selves.
