Why Not? That Important Powerful Question

"Ask your question and then wait patiently for the answer."

Why do adults stop asking questions? Children ask questions all the time. Their natural sense of curiosity knows no bounds. One of the most compelling and effective ways to learn is to ask powerful and meaningful questions. Yet somehow as we move towards adulthood we seem to lose that natural sense of childhood curiosity. We encourage students to ask questions, but as adults we seem to think that we have all the answers and know all there is to know.

One of the most powerful questions that you can ask yourself is the question - WHY NOT? This simple question becomes most powerful when asked after we have had an inner critical thought or dialogue with our self. The dialogue that says:

You can't do that... (whatever it or that is)

You can't be...

You can't have/want/experience, something that you want, need, desire, or aspire to be.

'WHY NOT?' is an empowering question that can help us to challenge those old stories, and tapes that continuously loop in our mind; the old stories and tapes that keep us immobilized and stuck. Asking this question can provide us with the good wake-up call that we might need, and shake us up into taking some form of action.

'WHY NOT?' is a challenging, thought-provoking question that people can use to creatively inspire and motivate them to take action towards a dream or desire that they have. The questions thus provide the opportunity to think outside the box and move outside of our comfort zone.

'WHY NOT?' is a question that you can use to explore your values; it can get you thinking on a deeper level about what matters.

'WHY NOT?' is a question that can help to provide you with a sense of empowerment.

Answering this question can help you to stop, pause, and reflect and shift from moments of being functional to moments of self-awareness. It is thus a powerful technique that can help you with your personal transformation, growth and learning.

If the most important question that we can ask ourselves is 'WHY NOT?', standing close by is another important powerful question - 'WHAT IF... ?'

It is when we stop asking questions that we get into trouble. If we think that because we are adults we know all there is to know then we become restricted, backing ourselves into a corner.

"Do you ask enough questions or do you settle for what you think you know?"

Never stop asking questions - they provide us with a delicious experience of giving the mind an opportunity to churn, explore and become open to new and varied possibilities.

"Some men see things as they are and say, Why?

I dream of things that never were, and say, Why not?"

GEORGE BERNARD SHAW
