5 Fears Successful People Face Head-On

The best way to conquer fear is by coming face-to-face with what scares you the most.

Successful people experience many of the same fears as everyone else. But rather than avoid the things that cause them discomfort, they strive to conquer their fears. They're willing to tolerate anxiety-provoking situations in an effort to accomplish bigger and better feats.

Here are five common fears that successful people face head-on:

1. The fear of failure.
Failure can cause you to develop inaccurate conclusions about yourself. If your business venture fails, you may decide, "I wasn't meant to be an entrepreneur." Or, if you don't get that promotion you applied for, you might think, "I shouldn't be a leader." But failure doesn't have to be the end of the road.

Successful people are willing to risk failure over and over again. They use failure as an opportunity to gain more knowledge. Then, armed with more wisdom than before, they're willing to try again. They know that failure is an important part of the journey toward success.

2. The fear of rejection.
Whether you're asking for a raise, or you make that phone call that could advance your career, there's always a chance you could be rejected. And for many people, the fear of rejection causes them to shy away from new opportunities.

Successful people aren't immune to the sting of rejection, but they have confidence in their ability to handle the pain. They accept that they're bound to be rejected at one time or another, and they refuse to let rejection interfere with their goals. They move forward with confidence, without letting rejection influence their self-worth.

3. The fear of not pleasing everyone.
Trying to please everyone can cause you to appear neutral on important issues. As a result, you may struggle to find a loyal audience that understands what you stand for and what you're all about.

Successful people don't necessarily offend others on purpose, but they aren't afraid to be polarizing. They know strong feelings are important, so while their efforts may repel those who disagree, their willingness to take a stance can also attract major supporters.

4. The fear of change.
You can't become better if you refuse to grow and change. Yet, it can be tempting to avoid anything new--a schedule change, a different job, or an unfamiliar opportunity--because change can be stressful.

Successful people, however, embrace change. They know that reaching new levels of success requires a willingness to adapt to the world around them. They're also invested in personal change that will lead to self-growth.

5. The fear of success.
Fearing success sounds slightly ridiculous on the surface. After all, who wouldn't want to achieve their goals? But the truth is, with great success comes great responsibility, and many people have a deep-rooted fear that they just aren't good enough.

Successful people understand that the more they achieve, the more they stand to lose. Yet, they boldly keep striving to reach new heights of success. They believe in themselves and their ability to turn their dreams into a reality.
